The Surprise Cook

The first time I heard it I had no clue
About what I'd heard or what to do
So I just shook my head
And went back to bed
And hoped someone else knew

I heard it again the next night
After I had woken with such a fright
Whatever it was sounded close
And I hoped not to say adios
Should I end up losing a possible fight

So that I did not lose my mind
And thus was not left in a bind
I quietly left my room
And grabbed a conveniently placed broom
And went off to see what I could find

Stalking down the hallway
I was stopped in the doorway
Of the Bounty's kitchen
I was filled with horror yet again
And at that point I could only pray

Now Cole was not known to sleepwalk
At least its never been mentioned in past talks
But he was there at the counter
With something that looked like batter
My fear was it would taste like chalk

But as I made to go watch Cole
Even as he licked batter from the bowl
Something felt wrong
Even as time moved along
And yet everything seemed to be whole

It was more an odd feeling that I had
As Cole's cooking was usually bad
But even as Cole gave a snore
There was something that I knew for sure
Something had changed in my comrade

Pretty soon it was the time
For the oven bell to chime
Cole took out his bake
Showing it was a cake
And left it to cool to its prime

So it was we waited some more
During which Cole continued to snore
And when finally things were ready
Cole's icing hand was steady
Soon the smell could not be ignored

Cole of course took a slice
And decided he was in paradise
He went back to his room
With the cake he would consume
Leaving me with the scent of spice

Dare I say it, I had to try
This cake that looked good to the eye
I cut myself a piece of cake
And hoped it wasn't a mistake
But the bite i took nearly made me cry

Who knew my friend had it in him
When awake his dishes were grim
But asleep he could cook
Things that didn't brand him a crook
This cake ate like a heavenly hymn

Of course the others wouldn't believe me
But just you wait and see
They'll just have to take
Some of that cake
Then they would have to agree
