Hello, Loves, I'm back! This past school year has been absolutely insane for me, as it was my last year of high school. Now that I finally have a little bit of time before I go off to university in the fall, I thought I'd write something for you all. Outside of school, the world is a pretty crazy place right now, so I just wanted to say that I hope you all are staying safe and wearing masks!
I hate to clog up short chapters with long author's notes butttt just a quick note, I rewrote parts of all of the chapters preceding this one, as there were a few key changes I wanted to make. Also this story now has a prologue haha. I've been thinking about how to better structure this for months and a two paragraph prologue is what I came up with :thumbs_up:
Chapter Ten: I Want To Join You
I woke up with a throbbing pain in my head where he had hit me. I was still tied to the same rigid chair. I quickly took inventory of my body parts. My head. Two arms. Ten fingers. My bloated stomach. Two legs. Ten toes. I take a deep breath. Two. Three.
Before I can formulate any type of plan, the door creaks open. It was a different man from the one who hit me earlier. He had a general's uniform on and he walked with a purpose. Behind him were five other men. They looked almost identical in their green military uniforms and their short buzz cuts. The five cronies began setting up a livestream. The general was assembling and loading a pistol with a single bullet. From this range, that's all he'll need.
My own life was coming to a brutal end right in front of me. It's about to be broadcasted not only for my family, but for an entire nation, just to set an example.
I didn't even do anything wrong. I had just been doing what I was taught: to serve the American public. I tried my best, like I always had, but I was never meant to succeed. It never should have gotten to this point, but I digress.
"Anything you'd like to say before we get this show started?" the general sneered.
"I want to join you."
