Author's note: So, chapters 16, 17 and 18 are gonna be more Melodie centric, and will consist mostly of flashbacks, but i still had allot of fun writing it.
I kinda had Melodie's backstory all figured out already because she is in fact the first Hazbin Hotel fan OC i created, together with Pink neon.
Any way, enough of me rambling, enjoy y' all.
Chapter 17:
Through different eyes
Emily had just arrived on their agreed location "Ok, no one can know about this, we could get into serious trouble….but I was able to get my hands on these items" The young seraphim spoke as she revealed to Melodie an old, dark grey, almost black cloak and what seemed to be a sky-blue crystal, encased by an ornate, gold trim.
"Emmy….is that….a glamour?!" the other angel spoke in disbelieve as she accepted the cloak from her friend.
The seraphim smiled "Yes, it will conceal your true nature and adapts to the environment so you'll blend in, no one will be any wiser"
The shorter angel gave Emily a tight hug "Em, you're the best!" before closely inspecting the stone "And this?" to which Emily responded "a one-time-use portal stone, it has 2 charges for a single back and forth trip to a location of your choosing, after which, it will destroy itself"
Melodie accepted the stone "Em, these things are untraceable…..how did you get this?" to which the young seraphim giggled "Well, being the high seraphim's sister comes with its advantages"
She then gently took Melodie's hands "No one can know about this, ok? I'm not sure where you're going and what you need to do but…I trust you…..come back in one piece….ok?"
Melodie gave her friend a tight hug "I will, don't worry, Em" as she signaled that it was time for Emily to leave.
The young seraphim would nod and left Melodie to her secret "mission"
..
..
A portal would open on that same fateful location where Melodie had met the strange, selfless sinner girl.
Taking a few good looks around, Melodie finally stepped out once she was sure the coast was clear, cloak already donned as she began to wander the streets of pentagram city.
As she had hoped, her glamour cloak hid her true angelic nature, making her appear as any regular sinner as she saw demons of many shapes and sizes, going about their day, still licking their wounds and recovering from the excruciating extermination.
Yet something had changed about this scene, before, Melodie would see monsters who earned damnation…but thinking back to the selfless act of the girl she cornered those 2 weeks ago, she saw something different…..
"They are…..suffering….." she muttered to herself as she saw friends grieve as found families burry their dead….dead that she and her sisters were responsible for…..she felt a retching in her gut…
..guilt..
…regret…
She saw, for the first time, souls….human souls…..
And as she realized this, the pink sinner's words once again echoed through her mind
"If you want to hurt my friends, you'll have to kill me first, you monster!"
"She…..she was right…..we are the monsters….." Melodie thought to herself as cold realization set in.
However, something caught her eye.
Off in the distance she saw a blonde girl in a red suit and bowtie, with red, rosie cheeks, handing out flyers.
Melodie curiously approached, however she was taken aback when she saw a familiar face next to the blonde.
"Vaggie? The traitor? Oh shit, she can't see…..wait…..i'm wearing a glamour, she won't recognize me" she thought to herself as she slowly approached the duo, just about able to overhear a conversation before she got too close.
" *sigh* …I don't know Vaggie….no one wanted to even look at the flyers I made"
"Come on babe, maybe today is too soon, the extermination was only 2 weeks ago after all, give them time"
Melodie curiously approached "Uhm, sorry? What are those for, miss?"
The blonde woman perked up "Oh hello there? You must be a new arrival, yes? Here" She smiled as she handed the disguised angel one of the flyers.
Melodie took the paper, on it was a cutesy crayon drawing of what looked like a hotel, the page littered with rainbows and smiley faces, the marquise of the building saying "happy hotel" as the blonde woman spoke up "If you're looking for a chance at redemption, you are more then welcome at the happy hotel"
Melodie would tilt her head curiously "Redemption? Happy hotel?" The blonde would giddily smile and bounce on her feet, she was honestly adorable "Oooooohhh yes yes yes, the happy hotel, it's a place where we want to rehabilitate sinners. You know, to give them a second chance of getting into heaven"
The exorcist couldn't help but let out an endearing chuckle. "It's….a noble goal really, very admirable"
This made the blonde girl even giddier, which Melodie didn't even think was possible "ooh you really think so?! Oh thank you! Please tell your friends, tell everyone, the happy hotel is open to anyone who wants to put in the effort, it's never too late to want to change after all"
Melodie giggled before reality suddenly struck…she recognized her from somewhere…..she had a briefing about this woman…she knew exactly who this was…the daughter of lucifer himself, the princess and heir to the throne of hell….Charlotte morningstar…..and she was like NOTHING she expected her to be…..
She quickly tried to recompose herself, gave a polite smile and nod and went on her merry way, hoping neither the princess nor her company caught on.
..
..
On the outskirts of heaven, out of view from anyone, a small portal opened as Melodie stepped through, making sure the coast was clear as she took off her glamour, the portal stone turning dull once drained of its magical charge and once the portal closed, it crumbled into a fine dust.
She quickly put the cloak away as she slowly began to make her way towards her friend, Emily's residence, taking the opportunity to think.
She had spent an entire day in the pride ring of hell…..and with this new perspective she gained…she came to a cruel realization…..
"If an angel like lucifer can fall….who is to say a demon can't ascend?"
This happy hotel, rehabilitating sinners, it was a much more humane, much less violent solution to both their problems.
She pulled out the flyer she was given by the princess and looked over it again, letting all the information of the entire day sink in.
Yes, she saw horrors, blood, guts and depravity, but she also saw souls bereft of hope, who'd do anything for a way out, but they lost the will to dream…..not unlike their reluctant ruler…..
It was at this point that it finally set in for Melodie "That sinner was right….we Are the monsters…..the exterminations…..they have to STOP"
She made a B-line towards the barracks; she HAD to take this up with her lieutenant and Adam, the general of the exorcist army, and thru them, all the way up to Sera, the high seraphim.
..
..
The talk with Adam went about as good as one would expect. What Melodie hoped would be a lecture about disobeying orders, turning into hearing her out had quickly turned into a full on shouting match, neither party willing to hear the other.
That was, until Melodie pulled out the flyer….
With a loud slam, she smacked the thing on the table in front of them, which caused the first man and his lieutenant to pause…..
"Wait, holy fucking shitballs, you actually went DOWN there?! Holy shit can you believe this, lute?!" The first man mocked and snickered, almost impressed as he nudged the other exorcist with his elbow.
Lute however was glaring daggers at the lower rank exorcist.
She pulled Adam aside as the 2 were muttering something incomprehensible in hushed tones before returning their attention to Melodie.
Lute was the first to speak "we have decided to give your idea some though, we shall discuss this….but not here…..too many ears listening in" to which Adam added "Yea, meet us at the outskirts, near the gate, tonight at midnight ON THE DOT"
Melodie saluted "Thank you for this chance, sir!" She was smiling from ear to ear "Might they actually listen?" she thought to herself eagerly.
