AN: This chapter contains material of a highly sensitive nature including miscarriages and discussions of infertility. If this is a trigger for you skip to the next chapter.
Thomas curled up in the hospital bed, finally too exhausted to fight sleep. Robert had switched out with Theo and Amelia and was monitoring the situation. Kimberly continued her frantic pace of restacking the notebooks. He had seen her recreate the piles at least twice while he was here and hoped that this round would be the end. At this point he was concerned about how many hours she had been in a semi-awake state. As a prophetess, it was not going to affect her as much, but there would still be some after effects. They were already seeing one unexpected effect and that was how much it was tearing at their soulmate bond.
"Tommy," Kim said, expectantly, as she looked back and her face fell as she saw him asleep. "How much longer did I take?"
"It's nearly five a.m., so ten or so hours," Robert said as she looked down at the floor and he walked over to her. "What are you thinking?"
"He was so mad earlier and…" Kimberly trailed off as Robert shook his head at her. "He wasn't mad?"
"Frustrated? Yeah. Mad? No. He's spent the last three weeks worried about and for you. You just came back on the day that he broke," Robert explained as Kimberly nodded as she chewed on her bottom lip. She hated that she felt like she was disappointing him, but she hadn't been able to pull out of these prophecies. "Why don't you get some sleep too? It's going to eventually catch up with you."
"Robert- thank you," Kimberly said as he gave her a confused look. "I know all of you helped him while I was in the middle of this and he's going to continue to need you."
"Rest, Kimberly- we can get into those prophecies later," Robert said as he walked over to the door, turned off the lights, and saw her crawl into bed next to Thomas. Hopefully she would actually get some rest.
"I'm so glad they're resting," Amelia whispered as she huddled over a cup of coffee and Theo wrapped a sweater around her. She had been cold ever since she had touched Kimberly during that prophecy. Theo had seen this happen with her before and he knew it would be a few weeks of her being this cold, but then she would be like herself again. "Thanks."
"Have you looked in any of them?" Theo asked as Amelia gave him a terse nod and he watched as her face went unreadable. Over the years, she would only shut him out like this when it was something that was going to bother him. "Ames."
"We need her to help interpret them before we can be sure. There is a lot about Thomas' life, about their children, I even picked up on what looks like great-grandchildren…" Amelia trailed off as she glanced over to make sure that they were still soundly asleep. "Kiros is a concern. There are a few other things that I don't understand. It looks like Thomas will move between universes. There isn't a lot about her though."
"You don't see a lot about yourself," Theo remarked as Amelia shook her head and he watched her closely. She bit down on her lower lip and blinked rapidly before breaking eye contact. "No. They've been through…can we stop it?"
"That's why I want her to look with me, I may be misinterpreting things. I hope I'm misinterpreting things," Amelia said as Theo turned his back to the hospital bed. He did not want to risk Thomas waking up and being able to read him like a book. While Amelia had learned to hide emotions, he had never been able to do that. The pain that he felt was immense and he could only imagine how Thomas would feel if thorough analysis came to the same conclusion. "Kimmie, you okay?"
"Just cramps," Kimberly muttered as she shifted around and tried to find some relief. Amelia and Theo exchanged a glance before Theo, hastily, walked out of the room. "What's going on?"
"You've been under a lot of stress with everything, we just want to make sure that there's not anything else going on," Amelia said as she walked over and gently shook Thomas' shoulder. He needed to be awake if this was more than just some mild cramping from being dehydrated.
"I'm up," Thomas muttered as he swatted away the hand, but rolled over to his side and he vaguely realized that Kimberly was next to him. What truly woke him up was when he felt Kimberly's nails dig into his arm and he looked up to see the raw pain on her face. "Ames…"
"Theo has already gone to grab Robert," Amelia supplied as she moved around to the other side of the bed and grabbed Kimberly's other hand. "Is this normal for you?"
"No. Not like this," Kimberly forced out as she let out a groan. She missed Thomas and Amelia exchanging a meaningful glance over her head. She gripped Thomas' hand even tighter as she kneeled on the bed and Thomas steadied her as she swayed her hips from side to side. This normally did the trick when her cramps got bad, but it was not even touching the pain at the moment. "I need…"
"What do you need?" Thomas forced out, his voice thick with emotion. He could guess what was happening, but she didn't know. She opened her eyes and locked eyes with him for a moment, understanding passing between them before another intense wave of pain washed over her and she let go of Amelia, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Kim…"
"Is this better?" Amelia asked as she pressed against Kimberly's lower back and she nodded against Thomas' neck. Amelia quickly lowered one of the rails and sat down behind her on the bed as she pressed against her back. She could see the blood running down her legs and the tears started, but she stayed silent. Keeping Kimberly as calm as possible was the only thing that mattered and hearing sobs would definitely let her know that something was going wrong.
"Where are they?" Thomas asked as Amelia shook her head. Kimberly let out a scream and Thomas grimaced as her nails dug into his shoulders and neck. Amelia glanced down at the bed and saw blood clots before looking back up at Thomas and shaking her head. She watched as her nephew strengthened his resolve and he adjusted his arms with one hand holding Kimberly's head to his neck and the other rubbing her back right above where Amelia continued to apply pressure.
"Am I…am I losing…" Kimberly whispered against his ear and Thomas nodded as he didn't trust his voice. Another contraction hit and she clutched him even tighter and she felt another gush of fluid leave her body.
"Keep breathing for me, okay?" Robert said as he pulled on gloves and motioned for Amelia to move, but she shook her head. "Ames."
"She's in a lot of pain and this is helping. I'm not moving," Amelia stated as Robert shook his head and he looked at the amount of blood Kimberly was losing. He noticed what looked like an embryonic sac and let out a sigh. He nodded to Theo and Theo jogged back out of the room. On their way back here, they had agreed that if Kimberly was having a miscarriage that Theo would go grab an OB/GYN while he and his nurse did what they could here.
"Kimberly, you're going to feel us putting some bed pads around your legs and then Tara is going to take some blood for us to confirm what is going on," Robert said as Kimberly nodded and they slowly started working around her. Robert ignored the sobs coming from Kimberly and Amelia as he focused on his job. It tore at him for them to have, yet another, thing go wrong in their lives, but he had to make sure that this was not going to become a medical crisis. After they got everything positioned he moved around to the head of the hospital bed. "Do you want to move? We can help you if you do."
Kimberly shook her head as she continued to sob into Thomas' neck and Robert took a step back. Theo walked back in with another doctor. The doctor moved to attend to Kimberly and Theo walked over to Amelia and nodded for her to take a break, but she shook her head. He gently cupped her face and she turned her face into his hand to try to muffle some of her sobs. They had experienced their share of miscarriages and this was bringing up all of those memories.
"Kimberly, do you know what is happening?" Marissa asked as Kimberly nodded and Robert gave her a shocked look, but kept silent. "Is this how you're most comfortable? We can get you a hot bath or bring in some more pillows…"
"Bath," Kimberly whispered in Thomas' ear, but it wasn't loud enough for anyone else to hear.
"We can also get a heating pad," Marissa continued as Thomas shook his head and she looked at him expectantly.
"She wants the bath," Thomas said as Marissa nodded and the medical staff then mobilized to get what she requested. "They're getting it, what else can we do while they set it up?"
"Stay. With. Me," Kimberly ground out and he nodded as he turned his head and gave her forehead a kiss. He was not going to go anywhere.
"Hey, Phoebe- can you go ahead and start looking at her books? There's been another set back and I think we need to try to get ahead of what may be coming," Amelia said as Theo sank down to the floor next to her and she leaned against him. They both were covered in a mix of water and blood, but neither of them was going to leave the hospital just yet. Kimberly's dad had come by earlier and was surprisingly, helpful and supportive. Whatever qualms he had had to begin with, they were disappearing as he realized how much Thomas cared for his daughter. "Thanks Fee."
"You okay?" Theo whispered as she tucked into his arms and he rubbed her arms to help her warm up. He knew the answer, but he had learned it was better for her to tell him than him to assume.
"No. Not even close," Amelia whispered back as her tears fell again and she looked up at him to see that he was crying as well. Neither of them were in the present, they had gone back to all those years ago when this situation had happened to them- in nearly an identical fashion.
AN2: I completely got my days mixed up yesterday and published early. However, my oops is your good luck- here's a second chapter for the weekend to get me back on my normal schedule.
