Sabaku no Kitsune: Chapter 29

Kiri Chunin exam stadium: With Naruto

Naruto was staring down his old teammate Sakura as they both stood across from each other on the pool of water; Naruto was looking at Sakura, she was breathing heavy which was expected. Sakura had multiple bruises and cuts along her body and her legs were shaking; Kurumi may have lost but she at the very least made Sakura use half her chakra and made her more exhausted.

Sakura meanwhile was looking over Menma trying analyzing him; Menma was shifting his weight to his left side which meant that his right ribs were bruised or broken. Along with that she could see that his Kunai and shuriken pouches were nearly empty and one of his small fans was missing.

Both stared at each other for what seemed like and eternity leaving the audience in suspense.

With Temari and Katsu

Katsu was chewing on her nails as she watched both Naruto and Sakura stare each other down "holy shit, holy shit, holy shit" Katsu repeated. "This is so nerve racking" Katsu said as she looked at Temari 'I know I'm supposed to be impartial but I really want Naruto to win' she thought.

"Come on Naruto" Temari said her eyes glued to the monitor "you can do it baby, you can win, I believe in you" she said clenching her fists.

With Kakashi, Obito and Sango

Kakashi, 'Tobi' and Sango were all looking at the monitor in anticipation; Kakashi was looking on and clenching his fists.

'Sakura, you can win, I know you can' Kakashi thought as his eyes were glued to the screen.

Sango was holding Obito's hand as she looked at the screen; Sango saw her daughter Kurumi get knocked out by the pink haired girl and saw Karin fall into the water with the pale eyed girl.

Sangothought the battle was over until Naruto came along; she was rooting for Naruto as he could still snatch victory for his team 'come on honey, you can do it' she thought.

Obito was looking on at Naruto motionless as he waited for the battle to begin 'you got this' he thought.

With Naruto

Naruto decided to begin the battle and rushed toward Sakura; Naruto slashed at Sakura who blocked his gauntlet blade with her kunai. Sakura parried the blade to the side and sent a kick towards Naruto's head; Naruto ducked backwards as her foot nearly made contact with his chin.

Naruto used his free hand to knock Sakura's foot upwards and aimed a kick at her leg keeping her standing; Naruto was aiming for her knee in order to knock her off balance and send her into the water.

However Sakura decided cancel her walk on water technique and sank into the water before Naruto leg could make contact; Naruto saw Sakura fall into the water and became alarmed as she brought both of her arms back.

Sakura then swung both of her arms forward using her super strength to launch a powerful current of water towards Naruto; Naruto seeing this bought out his fan and used it as a shield as the water hit and lifted him up into the air.

Naruto was now airborne as he was able to successfully guard himself against Sakura's attack; Naruto gripped his fan and brought it back "Wind Sycthe Jutsu" Naruto shouted as he launched a massive attack towards Sakura.

Sakura who was now at the bottom of the pool went through hand signs and slammed her hands on the bottom 'Earth Style: Earth Dome' a dome made of concrete covered her as the wind jutsu hit the pool.

The wind jutsu hit the pool sending the water into the air and creating a rain shower as Naruto landed on a plat form; at the bottom of the pool the concrete dome exploded and Sakura came out soaking wet.

Sakura shook out water from her hair and cloths before jumping back up onto a platform and stared at Naruto "you're better than I thought Menma; you almost had me" Sakura said.

Naruto blushed behind his face coverings and rubbed the back of his head "heh thanks Sakura; you almost got me too" Naruto said as held his fan to his side "shall we continue" he asked and Sakura nodded.

"With pleasure" Sakura said as she took out several kunai and shuriken.

With Tsunade, Gaara, Koyuki and Mei

Tsunade and the other Kage were looking down at Naruto and Sakura impressed at their use of techniques and jutsu to counter each other.

"Amazing; they are both countering each other using unorthodox tactics" Mei said impressed "Sakura purposely went under water to avoid being hit and then used her strength to launch the water towards Naruto" she said. 'Using her strength instead of a jutsu saved her both chakra and time' Mei thought.

"Naruto also has improved as well" Tsunade said "since he can no longer use the shadow clone jutsu, he has to improvise and adapt to the situation" she said impressed.

"I don't know about you three" Koyuki said "but I say regardless of who wins; Naruto, Sakura and their teams should be promoted" she said and the others nodded.

"Still; this is a battle of power" Gaara said making them all look at him "Naruto wants to see if he's been surpassed by his former teammates and Sakura wants to see if she made any progress in achieving her goal" he said.

With Naruto

Sakura threw her kunai and shuriken at Naruto who swung his fan creating a powerful gust of wind; the wind hit the kunai as they were halfway to reaching Naruto. Naruto's relief then turned to worry as he saw that the kunai had flash bombs attached.

The result was a bright light that blinded Naruto for a moment "gah crap" Naruto shouted as he was blinded; Naruto opened his eyes only to see Sakura in front of him with her fist cocked back.

"Chaaa" Sakura roared as she threw her punch; Naruto put his fan in front of himself and charged wind chakra into it to reinforce it. Naruto's fan was hit by Sakura's punch and he was sent flying; Naruto flew in one direction while his fan was sent flying off in another direction before landing in a pool.

Naruto flew through the air for a few seconds before smacking into a wall; Naruto hit the wall and it cracked spiderwebbing "guhhh…uhhh" Naruto groaned as he fell to the ground 'oh man that hurt really, really, bad' Naruto thought.

"Ow, ow, ow" Sakura cried as she held her hand "I think I broke my wrist" she said as she took off her glove; Sakura's right hand was now purple. Sakura had tears welling up but she sucked them back in 'don't cry, don't cry, you can heal yourself later' Sakura thought as she looked across the arena and saw Menma get back up.

Naruto got back up and felt his entire skeleton pop 'I feel like hammer shit' Naruto thought; Naruto tried to activate his gauntlet blade but the blade didn't come out 'damn, the impact must've broke it' Naruto thought. 'Time to improvise' Naruto thought; Naruto began to charge his gauntlet with wind chakra as a dome of wind covered his hand.

Sakura seeing this readied her one good hand as it began to crackle with lightning 'Raitanken'; Sakura glared at Menma and formed her plan 'wind jutsu will cancel out my lightning; so looks like I'll have to time this just right' Sakura thought.

Naruto and Sakura glared at each other for a quick second before charging at each other; both Naruto and Sakura neared each other and cocked back their fists.

Naruto POV

Naruto threw his punch aimed at Sakura's head; Naruto's punch connected knocking her head to the side.

Sakura POV

Sakura threw her punch which hit Menma in the chest; Sakura's lightning covered fist began to burn Naruto's cloths and contacted his skin.

Normal POV

Both Naruto and Sakura flew back on the walkway and skidded on the ground before stopping; both laid motionless for a few seconds before both tried to get up.

'Come on Sakura; get up' Sakura thought trying to force herself up.

'I won't lose' Naruto thought as he tried to get back up.

Both Naruto and Sakura barely got onto their knees and slowly began to rise; the whole stadium was holding it's breath as they watched both combatants get back up.

Sakura's legs gave out and she fell to the ground barely able to keep her head up 'I can't' she thought.

"We have out winner" Katsu said with excitement "Menma of Suna; Team Tobi wins" she said as the whole stadium began to erupt in applause.

Naruto looked around and smiled "I-I won" Naruto said before he started falling backwards "oh shit" Naruto said before losing consciousness. Before Naruto hit the ground he was caught by a floating bed of sand.

Gaara was behind Naruto and was able to catch him before he fell to the ground 'You did it' he thought with a small smile.

Tsunade jumped down from her booth and landed next to Sakura "I'm sorry sensei" Sakura said weakly.

"Don't be, you did great" Tsunade said with a smile as she picked up her student; as she did Sakura looked over to Gaara who was picking up Menma.

Sakura saw that Menma's hood was knocked back a little and she saw a little bit of his hair sticking out 'huh, he's a blonde' Sakura thought before she passed out.
