"This is where I have my magical auto-telescope that triggers my emergency Teleportation spell which will warp my home to a teleportation marker I designated as a safe zone whenever a high-speed object or spell about to impact us is detected."

I was quite impressed with this sophisticated creation of mine!

I had to remove a portion of the roof and replaced it with a modern-looking glass roof/window in order for this magic item to be deployed, but it would be worth the safety from of shop in the event of a large object being teleported over my home or Megumin being mind-controlled to blow my home up!

"Are you expecting the Demon King to invade the town for beginners!? Arue, you didn't make any enemies of their mages right? Right?"

"Moving on-"

"It's currently switched off but I usually turn it off before I go to enchanted crossbow with the magic scope attached can fire on thieves under the effect of Lurk. Don't worry, they target non-lethal areas and the arrows are coated with an aphrodisiac, so we won't have problems with the police… unfortunately, I can only aim it towards the front of the store, so it's pretty useless since most would probably try the backdoor."

"Hahaha…" I chuckled lightly as Yunyun caught her breath after yelling so much, "Relax Yunyun, I was joking there. Despite how it seems, I fully intend to be a mostly law abiding citizen. I'm not going to go overboard as a Crimson Demon and land myself in prison."

"You can cut out the 'mostly'." Yunyun sighed and said with a relieved expression, "I guess that makes sense. I can't really see Arue, who was our graduating class' honor student, doing something crazy enough to end up in jail."

I don't want to hear that from a girl that brings a dagger to school when even the other students wouldn't do that. If this wasn't a dangerous fantasy world then such an act would be worth some level of punishment instead of simply raising some eye-brows.

In any case, I would never do something that would lead to an arrest… Not without having anti-binding magic items hidden in my body to render the authorities attempts to stop me from teleporting ineffective, at least.

If I was going to jail, I would rather skip the unnecessarily frustrating prison escape arc.

I didn't say any of that out loud, however, to spare Yunyun from the effort needed to reply in a Tsukkomi-like manner or with her rare sarcastic voice.

"Exactly so. Now, let's move on one floor down. Here we have the bedroom, which we will be sharing since the attic is cramped and there's plenty of space… and there's the bathroom. Hmm, oh right, you can keep your weapons here if you want."

I went over to the bookcase to the side of my room's desk, pulled down a fake book by 45 degrees, which activated the mechanism that moved the bookcase aside to the allocated space along the wall.

This revealed a long rectangular-like chamber made out of enchanted silver (that I mined from a dungeon I kept for myself) embedded into the wall.

I pressed several of the magic block "buttons" on the front of the silver wall, each touch causing a "beep" sound of different tones to be emitted, in a specific sequence which eventually unlocked the chamber.

"Ta-da! Isn't it awesome Yunyun? We can keep our most valued possession like powerful manatite or weapons over here! It's super secure, heck, I even accounted for the possibility of anyone getting the idea of just stealing the chamber off the wall by having the automatic defense spells launching [Light of Sabers] then teleporting back to me!"

"Waaah! This is… really advanced and amazing Arue! U-um, is it really okay if I use it though, my staff and magic items aren't much to shout about, unlike those magic weapons you have in there."

"It's fine Yunyun, what good is a safe storage if you don't store anything in them!" I said to Yunyun as I tossed the pouch of Eris coins into the vault for safe keeping.

Yunyun followed suit though she paused a bit to ask me a question.

"Arue, I see lots of magic weapons but um… where's your magic staff?"

"Ufufufu, I have kept it in another secure chamber. It's power is too great to be kept in my bedroom so I hid it in a special hidden room I found in a secret dungeon I conquered. That particular dungeon also resides in a magic-rich environment which allows the staff's magic to recharge without my input, not only that, the special case securing my staff boasts defensive spells even greater than these."

"Aren't you taking things too far? What if someone finds the dungeon and the room then steals it?! How are you even going to use a magic staff if it's all the way across the country?!"

"Pft! I have several layers of teleportation, Anti-Break Spell and Anti-Steal measures in place. I keep all my weapons somewhere else for a reason you know? Through lots of practice I am fully capable of calling my weapons to me at any time. Also, this method doesn't risk the chance of some lucky bastard stealing it off me as I go about my business too...plus, I can modify my teleportation spells to have cool dark lightning effects, and that will make my "it's time to get serious" moments even cooler when I summon my weapons to be!"

"I know all your reasons are true but I'm not sure how much of it is because you're really careful or just wanted to look cool."

"Yunyun, oh my Yunyun…" I shook my head and placed my hands on her shoulders, if she wasn't embarrassed at me saying her name twice in a roll she was definitely facing a bout of shyness when I touched her, "Have you ever considered the idea that it could just be both?"

All those years of dealing with Megumin and the rest of the Crimson Demon clan had already colored her image of all these quality of life enhancements somewhat.

Though she knows it in her heart that magic items and powerful magic can be both useful and 'cool' (or at least aesthetically pleasing), with all the time she spent with Megumin who can only pull off a really cool finisher before becoming useless her ability to process such a basic logical fact must have been hit quite hard.

"I-I have! But well, I dunno if that stuff is very common…"

"Well look forward to seeing more of it then. Here at 'The Abyss', the Arch-Wizard known as Arue has full intention of creating magic items full of style and utility!"

After preparing the bath for later, I continued the tour of the rest of the house. The floor below us contained a small kitchen and dining area, and the floor below was the store-front where I informed Yunyun of all the anti-thievering mechanisms. I left out the secret magic surveillance for obvious reasons… she didn't need to know I was taking upskirt photos of females that stepped into my shop.

"This is the back of my store, where you will find my boat anchored here with the magic powered steam compressor and occasionally engine hard at work here. "I think I'm beginning to sense a pattern here…"

"-Anyways, when I'm not sailing, this bad boy-" I slapped the roof of my steam-machine, "-can fit so much steam in this!" I showed Yunyun one of my magic metal balls placed in the machine with a gauge attached to it. "This is what I call a Steam Ball, which has hot steam compressed to an absurd degree within it. As for its uses… other than scalding someone's skin, smashing itself into a monster or being used to power certain custom items, I haven't found a civilian use for it yet. I'm not some sort of civil engineer."

It was sorta inspired by some old Japanese animated movie that never saw commercial success, but I ended up getting the idea of actually making it after considering it a replacement to the gas canister used for the 3-D Maneuver Gear.

Unfortunately, by the time I finished this, the Adventurer's Guild said that giant monsters were on the verge of being over-hunted and that we were banned from killing most types of gigantic beings for a season or two.

That meant no shouting "Sasageyo" for me.

On that day, I... Arue, received a grim reminder. That I lived in a world where monster hunting was regulated when it had nothing to do with the Demon King's Army.

"Rather than a magic item isn't this kinda revolutionary?"

"You understand Yunyun! Come! Let's walk the path of industrialization together!"

"Noooooooo! We're gonna end up labelled as demon kings for that! Worse, I can even see our clan going along with it! We're going to be extinct if we do that!"

After sharing a laugh with Yunyun (who was doing so nervously as she was convinced I wasn't entirely joking), I took her to my basement workshop and informed her that she could use it too if she followed the safety rules.

The Giant Earthworm I killed earlier had already been taken apart and had its various parts preserved by my intelligent Golem that I enchanted for that specific purpose. Yunyun was impressed with that.

Then I started stripping.

"Hawawa! Arue, what are you doing?!"

"Isn't that obvious? The bath is about ready at this time."

I grinned as I shamelessly tossed my undergarments into the pile of dirty (and weighted) clothes. This was the first time I allowed my body to be seen by anyone other than my father after I passed my tenth birthday.

"No, let's find one with strong enemies! One with monsters that have strong attacks and are tough as nails…!" As expected of Lalatina.

"Anyway, let's decide after looking at the bulletin board."

"Kazuma! Pick this one, this one! A pack of dire wolves showed up in the mountains led by an Alpha Dire Wolf..."

"Rejected! Hey, what's this? Why are there only high-difficulty quests left!?"

They received some explanations of Luna as they started looking up some quests, most of which were difficult thanks to Beldia's recent move to the abandoned castle near Axel.

It was then that Yunyun went up after mustering her courage and declared, "Megumin! How could you…! The mere idea of my rival running away from strong monsters leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Let's have a monster hunt competition to settle our long-time rivalry today!"

Yunyun said as she pointed at Megumin in a hot-blooded manner.

This can only end badly for either Yunyun or everyone as a whole.

Still, Yunyun looked happy, and if she's happy with this who am I to not go along with it? Besides, being part of a regular "rival" party to the main characters is a standard series development, which makes it a tried and tested method of enhancing my side-character relevance.

"…? Yunyun, you're still in town?"

Megumin said nonchalantly, making Yunyun shriek, "Eh!? Why did you think I would leave!?"

"Yunyun, pay attention, Megumin's well aware that you're still in town." I bopped Yunyun lightly on my head, the girl had taken Megumin's words as it was, as usual…

"Arue?!"

"It's you!"

Megumin and Kazuma started pointing at me.

"Yep, it's me. Hmm, so this is your party right? Megumin, Kazuma, how did you end up in a party with an impersonator of the Axis Cult's goddess and some noble playing at being a female knight that will end up at the mercy of monsters?"

"Who are you calling an impersonator! I'm a goddess! I really am!"

"I-I'm being looked down upon- even another adventurer can see that I'm going to be a toy to monsters-"

Kazuma slapped his hand over his forehead, "It's a long story. Just saying, you can group Megumin in with these girls."

"Hey, I think you just said something insulting just now." Megumin tugged on Kazuma's shirt as he looked away meaningfully.

And that was how we ended up having a competition in hunting monsters with one another.
