Impactful Connection 4 - or 'The Tale of a Writer and a Medic from Different Worlds' (When Genshin Impact unites Dimensions!)

Jules Jagger, professional matchmaker, usually didn't get obsessed by a thought for no reason.

It's been a few days now since she met this enigmatic friend of Yorra that her gloomy buddy had on that curious game, and she was gushing over something that Yorra hated to consider despite how perfect it felt with what she knew of the guy.

"You two should be the ones trying to date~!"

"Like hell we should!"

John didn't sound like a creep as Yorra had described him. He wasn't lame either. Yet he was definitely not the kind of guy that could date her. Of course, Jules found the guy lovable in her own silly way, but there was a reason why she was very careful in picking boys to smooch: her brother, her mother, her father, and her sister. In that order, that's the line of people that would try to murder the one that she was to end up with.

Didier was the one that would jump the challenge at once, but he would mellow with enough talking. Same with her mother. Her father and sister were, however, built different. The old man was the former Dragon-Type Champion before Vos, and the latter was a doctor that knew how to murder anyone she felt dangerous enough to warrant that.

So, despite a hint of hope that this may be the one, Jules had to fold on the topic. Especially since she didn't want someone like John to end up butchered... and kind of wanted him and a certain gloomy Dark-Type specialist to get on to something.

It's been a while for sure, but even as she was originally taking a walk in the afternoon with Yorra after another lengthy day at the gym, Jules couldn't hold back what she felt on the topic.

"I swear, if you are still thinking about it, I will sicc Buttons at you."

The blonde chuckled, imaginging the large Incineroar merely giving her a flat glance before getting his chin scratched for being such a 'polite boy'.

"I just think you should consider it. You both seem to have a good chemistry."

"We trash-talk each other, and we have the opposite of tastes. His are trash, by the way."

Jules sighed, then smiled. "Which means he can be a worthy challenger for your heart."

"More like a pain in the butt. I mean, I would probably jump off the window if I was to spend more time than I do with his voice nagging at me."

"...I thought you two hanged around on a daily basis through that game."

"Sorta," Yorra admitted, the shorter woman huffing. "It's... if it's about grinding for some material, I want to get egged on by someone rather than lose my shit over doing it solo. The game is fun, but these important resources aren't that fun to get in high numbers."

"And... that's all, girl?"

Yorra paused in her steps, surprising Jules for a moment as the taller girl noticed the strange look on her face. It was brief, but she did notice her contemplating something.

"Yep."

"That was a long pause for a simple 'yep'."

"Well, it is also weird that the first thing you do to the best option for a boyfriend you can get. Gee, and then you ask why I don't help you with that?"

The blonde snorted at the sass. "Oh puh-lease, Yor! Don't get all fussy with me just because I think you and John have a nice feel to each other. It's not like I am bringing up Emille or something."

That last bit had Yorra almost trip on herself, which prompted a dazzling green-eyed glare from the shorter girl.

"Seriously? First John, now Emille- are you building me a harem of men or what, Jul?"

"I don't think you need my help with that," Jules shot back with mirth. "Still, I am just saying... you need to pick someone that you can stick by, and sure you think Emille is a bit off-putting with his crush on you but you will have to pick someone because you deserve to be happy."

These words rattled Yorra a bit, and her lips twitched with a mixture of dismay and... reluctance. Ah yes, the same self-loathing that had defined her bestest friend for a long time now. It's been so long, and yet the constant tragedies had defined a rather gloomy path for Yorra. One that, despite Jules' best efforts, was still the very one that her friend walked on.

There was no further word exchanged during that stroll, with Yorra getting dropped off soon, and then it was Jules' turn to make it back home. Last thing she needed was to get scolded by her parents for running late.

And yet she couldn't run away from finding them being 'cute'.

"Wi-kins, not in front of little Jul~," Shauna Jagger giggled, the old woman happily loving her husband's tender hugging.

"Yes, dad. Not in front of me, ugh!"

"Now, now, sugarcubes, I am just enforcing my responsibilities as a husband," Will Jagger replied smugly, nuzzling on his wife shoulder. "And hello, Jules. How was Yorra?"

"Moody as usual, pops," The cheerleader remarked. "Like, she can be so tough to crack at times."

There was a yawn leaving her lips, but soon Jules noticed her parents were looking at her with immense curiosity.

"What?"

"And what got you to 'crack in' Yorra? Anything to be concerned about, dearie?" Her mother asked, and the girl shook her head.

"Nah, she's doing as usual. It's just... I want to say I am not dating anyone."

"Which is quite fair since you're too young to be dating," Her dad argued, which meant he would let her hang around a boy only if she was fifty or something. "Still, what's this all about? Now you got your old man wondering."

"Well, it started with Yorra trying to 'find me someone', but the guy she found sounds more like he could do better with her."

They were now sitting by the kitchen. Dinner would be prepared in a hour or so, thus chatting there was fine for the time being.

"And you think this... because?" Her mother prodded, causing Jules to sigh.

"These two are good at cussing each other. And I don't mean like 'actively insulting one another', it's like..."

"Like they are flirting," Will guessed, and Jules actually nodded at that. "That may explain why Yorra is so unsure about it."

"Does it?" Jules finally was the one asking questions. "I mean, I get it's weird but-"

"It's less about it being weird, and more about it being odd for Yorra. There are people that do relate with one another being so crass with each other," Shauna interrupted, expanding on what was possibly going on with Yorra. "Your friend, Jules, did not become this jaded figure because she grew up. Her attitude with life makes her very wary of those she feels she can trust. I assume this friend you mentioned is not one here in Zirca."

"No, he is in Unova and he speaks with Yorra through a game they play online," Jules admitted, then frowned. "Still, they play with each other on a daily basis, so I don't get why she is-"

"She has a 'safety blanket' through the distance. By removing that so suddenly, Yorra would probably be unwilling to met with this friend of hers," Her father interrupted her, this time leaving her scowling a bit. "The truth is that Yorra shouldn't be hard-pressed about it. If she is the one making those steps on her own, then it may end up with these two meeting when both are fine with that rather than... you know."

"Be forced into it?" Jules guessed and her parents nodded, leaving her tired but understanding. "I guess that makes sense. Thanks, mom and dad."

"You're welcome, Jul~. Now, how about you leave me and your father alone so we can get back to what we were doing?"

More than happily.

Jules left for her room, relieved that her parents had not nagged at her about trying to get a boyfriend behind their backs but...

Still worried on what she should do with Yorra and her perplexing and complex mind when it came to trust and love.

You thought this one was dead, but none is truly dead in this archive (except the long ones. I don't have it in my body to burn my brain into 10k-long chapters).

Next time will involve John and Yorra having the same game sessions... except there may be curious thoughts in Yorra's mind that may lead her to ask some interesting questions.
