Chapter 2

The atmosphere in the crew's quarters was thick with tension as Sanmaru Rahzuki, the formidable captain of the Spectral Pirates, called for an open discussion on Big Mom's proposal. He stood at the center of the room, his imposing figure commanding respect as he addressed the gathered pirates. The grand hall of the Ghostly Gale was alive with the murmur of fifty voices, each carrying the weight of their own thoughts and concerns. They had all decided to reconvene once more, as promised that night. But Sanmaru could sense that there was a lot of tension between everyone in on the ship

"Listen up, everyone!" Sanmaru voice resonating off the wooden beams. "This is a decision that will shape the course of our journey, and I want every last one of you to have a say."

Marlowe, Sanmaru's first mate, stepped forward, echoing through the room. "Captain, you know we'd follow you to the ends of the sea, but binding ourselves to a Yonko crew is no small matter."

Murmurs of agreement rippled through the crowd, and Sanmaru raised his hand, silencing them. "I understand your concerns, Marlowe. That's precisely why I want to hear from all of you. As I said before this morning I wanted everyone to think about it and come to a decision tonight. That's now."

He gestured toward a raised platform at the front of the room. "We'll have an open vote, one by one. Each of you will step up and voice your opinion, be it for or against this alliance."

A young pirate named Jinro Kotaro, known for his hotheadedness, pushed his way to the front. "Captain, with all due respect, this is madness! Joining forces with Big Mom would mean sacrificing our freedom, our very way of life!"

Sanmaru regarded him with a level gaze. "Noted, Jinro. But let's hear from the others before we make any hasty decisions."

One by one, the crew members stepped up to the platform, each voicing their thoughts on the matter. Some, like Riko, were eager for the chance to prove themselves against the might of a Yonko crew. Others, like Tessa, expressed concern over the potential loss of autonomy.

As the discussion wore on, Sanmaru remained a stoic presence, his face betraying no hint of his inner thoughts. He listened intently as his crew debated the pros and cons, weighing each argument carefully.

Finally, after hours of impassioned discourse, the last pirate had spoken, and Sanmaru took the platform once more.

"You've all made valid points, and I appreciate your honesty," he said, his voice carrying a weight of authority. "This is not a decision to be made lightly, and I will not force any of you into a path you do not wish to tread."

He paused, surveying the faces of his crew, his gaze lingering on each one. "However, we cannot let this opportunity pass us by without due consideration. The resources and protection afforded by an alliance with Big Mom could be invaluable in our quest for greatness."

Sanmaru let his words sink in, allowing the crew to ponder the implications. Sanmaru sighed seeing how apprehensive his crew still was. Not that he could blame them. This was still too much too fast. As much as it rankled him this was a discussion that had to be delayed once more

Looking at Marlowe, Sanmaru nodded to the discussion they had a few hours earlier, "Although this is unusual to delay such a vote once again I am doing it once more. This isn't a regular vote which we've had for the past decade alone. This is quite literally a pivotal point where we either pick one route for ourselves or another, locking ourselves out of it forever. I propose we take a few days to reflect on this matter. Consider the risks and rewards, and let your thoughts be guided by your hearts and your loyalty to this crew."

He raised his fist in the air, a gesture of solidarity. "In three days' time, we will reconvene and hold a final vote. Whatever the outcome, we will stand united, for that is the strength of the Spectral Pirates."

The crew erupted in cheers, their voices echoing through the chamber as they pledged their allegiance to their captain. Sanmaru allowed himself a small smile, his heart swelling with pride at the sight of his loyal crew.

As the pirates dispersed, chattering excitedly about the prospect of aligning with a Yonko, Sanmaru retreated to his quarters. He knew the next few days would be crucial, a time for reflection and careful consideration. But whatever path they chose, he was confident that his crew would face it head-on, united in their quest for glory on the high seas.

Three days later, the crew gathered once more in the grand hall. The air was thick with anticipation as they prepared to cast their votes. Captain Sanmaru Rahzuki sat at the head of the round table, his fifty-man crew gathered around him.

"This is a significant opportunity, one that we cannot overlook. The Big Mom Pirates are a formidable force, and an alliance with them could open up new avenues for us," Sanmaru began, his temperate nature shining through as he spoke calmly.

Marlowe nodded in agreement. "Captain, the resources and protection they can provide would be invaluable. Our clashes with Kaido's forces have been taxing, and this offer may be our best chance at securing our position in the New World."

Mio Nakamura, the crew's best Sniper, chimed her diligent nature completely evident. "I've been studying the terms of the offer, and it seems quite reasonable. They're proposing a marriage alliance, which would formally incorporate us into their crew. The benefits are substantial – increased territory, resources, and support against our enemies."

Shiro Fujinami one of the ship's main Helmsman leaned forward, a mischievous glint in his eye. "And let's not forget, Captain, this could be your chance to finally lose that pesky virginity of yours. From what I hear, the Big Mom Pirates have some fine daughters."

Sanmaru's cheeks flushed slightly, at Shiro's comment. "Honestly why does everyone keep bringing up my virginity so much. It's not a big deal."

"I mean come on Captain. You're a handsome muscular bronze skinned Pirate Captain with a bounty of 900 million on his head and a decent brain in it" Kira Matsuda one of the ships Gunners teased, eyes twinkling with delight "At your age I'm surprised you haven't had a couple of bastards already. Or if you're really interested just ask one of the ladies on the ship."

"And if you swing the other way we don't judge" continued Hana Hayashi nodding to Ren Aoki "If you want to be Bucaneer buddies to Ren all the more for you"

"There are greater risks to consider than just personal matters. This decision will affect us all, and we must weigh the pros and cons carefully." Defended Sanmaru from his crews teasing "There's never been the time, place or person for me. Plus you know how my faith's effected my upbringing"

"Oh we do" knowingly chuckled Tessa "But I'm just saying that if you're planning to lose your virginity to Big Mom's daughters they better be a Pretty one"

Marlowe, slapped his head "Oh yeah it's all coming together. The Captain wanted his first time to be with a literal princess or something. Romantic at heart."

"That's not the real reason and you know it" retorted Sanmaru before dragging the Conversation back to where it was "Now back at hand. What do you want to do with this oppurtunity?"

That brought everyone back to the sharp reason why they were here. The crew erupted in discussion, some eager for the opportunity, others voicing concerns. Sanmaru listened intently, his vengeful nature surfacing as he considered the potential enemies they would gain.

"If we align with the Big Mom Pirates, we may find ourselves at odds with Kaido's forces and other powerful factions. Are we prepared to take on those challenges?" Sanmaru's gaze swept across the room, his crew falling silent.

He could see it in the crews eyes. This wasn't as simple as their typical mercenary efforts, kidnapping, smuggling or to be frank Piracy they engaged in. If the crew said yes they were 100% going to have to become fighters for the Big Mom Pirates. Full Stop.

After a long pause, Marlowe spoke up. "Captain, we've weathered many storms together. If this is the path you believe is best for the Spectral Pirates, then we will stand by you, come what may."

The crew murmured in agreement, their unity evident. Sanmaru nodded, his four core personality traits – temperate, diligent, vengeful, and patient – all at play as he considered the weighty decision before them.

One of the newer crew members, a young deckhand named Liam, raised his hand tentatively. "Captain, if I may?" Sanmaru nodded, acknowledging the boy's request.

Liam stood, his voice shaking slightly. "I... I'm not sure about this alliance. I mean, the Big Mom Pirates are known for their ruthlessness, and we'd be putting ourselves in their shadow. Wouldn't that mean losing some of our independence?"

The room fell silent as Sanmaru considered the deckhand's words. He could feel the gaze many of the people in this room were giving him. He knew their faces, their dreams, their fears and their strengths. He knew their weaknesses. But most of all he knew them as his crew. Was he prepared to be forced to throw away their lives for another person? One which he had to obey

The sentimental answer was no. The practical answer was yes. Sanmaru considered himself a practical man ... except for himself and his nakama. His crew.

"Liam, your concern is valid," Sanmaru said, calming the young man. "We must weigh the risks and rewards carefully. This decision will affect all of us, and I want everyone to have a say."

He turned to the rest of the crew. "I want to hear from each of you. What are your thoughts on this alliance? What are your fears and hopes?" Sanmaru ensured that he gave every crew member a chance to voice their opinion.

One by one, the Spectral Pirates stood and shared their perspectives. Some, like Marlowe and Tessa, saw the alliance as a strategic move to bolster their strength and secure their position in the New World. Others, like Liam, expressed concerns about the potential loss of autonomy and the risks of becoming entangled in the Big Mom Pirates' conflicts.

The discussion lasted for hours, with Sanmaru listening intently, his diligent nature ensuring that every angle was thoroughly explored. He could see the different personality traits of his crew members come to the fore – some spoke passionately, their vengeance towards their enemies fueling their arguments, while others maintained a more measured, temperate approach.

As the debate wore on, Sanmaru could see the crew slowly coming to a consensus. He knew that maintaining a crew of this size required a delicate balance, and he was proud to see his crew members engaging in the decision-making process so thoughtfully. It was one of the great things of having these votes that tended to happen once a month or so. You could see how the entire group came together in a united front.

Finally, one of the senior crew members, a decade long veteran named Aria, stood. "Captain, I think I speak for all of us when I say that we trust your judgment. If you believe this alliance is the best path forward for the Spectral Pirates, then we will follow you, no matter the risks."

The crew erupted in cheers and applause, their unity and loyalty to Sanmaru evident. The captain raised his hand, silencing them with his temperate demeanor.

"Thank you, Aria, and thank you all for your thoughtful input. This decision was not an easy one, but I believe it is the right move for our crew." Sanmaru paused, his gaze sweeping across the faces of his loyal comrades then he paused "But I want to say thank you for putting your faith in me. I hope I can keep that faith every day"

One by one, every Spectral pirate, from lowliest Deckhand to even Marlowe said their thoughts clear as day and then cast a vote. Nothing secret but nothing denied for a crew this size. One Pirate, one vote. Two thirds or more needed to make a choice. Sanmaru was to be the breaker of a deadlock if a two thirds majority was not achieved.

But it looked like it didn't seem to be necessary. The crew appeared to have given it their thoughts. While Sanmaru knew the majority were in favor, it was a question of whether it was nearly veto-proof or not.

Sanmaru noted that some like Tessa and Liam did so for practical reasons such as not offending the Big Mom Pirates while Marlowe did so for the resources and funding it would bring. That didn't mean that there weren't those against like Aria, despite vowing to promise to follow the crew's wishes on this regards. Just that every man and woman on board gave a minute of reasoning.

Sanmaru did the tally.

32 ... 33 .. 34

The answer was yes. By 34 to 40 ... the crew apparently, whatever misgivings they had, had chosen yes.

"The Spectral Pirates will join the Big Mom Pirates, but we will do so on our own terms. We will not be mere pawns in their game. We will carve our own path and make our mark on the world." His words were met with another resounding cheer, the crew's unwavering trust in their captain palpable once the vote was fully commenced and counted.

As the discussion and vote wound down, Sanmaru could see the relief and determination on the faces of his crew. They had weathered many storms together, and this alliance with the Big Mom Pirates would undoubtedly bring new challenges. But Sanmaru knew that with their nature, and the loyalty of his crew, they were more than prepared to face whatever the future held.

The Spectral Pirates were about to embark on a new chapter, one that would test their mettle and solidify their place among the most feared crews in the New World. And Sanmaru, with his unwavering leadership, was determined to guide them to even greater heights.

Sanmaru personally, though abstaining from voting on this matter, was wondering if this was the path that was best taken while sitting in his captains cabin stewing over the course of action the crew had vowed to take. He was their Captain and thus supported them wherever they may go.

But the nature of the vote made him consider whether or not it would have been better if he had just stayed in the South Blue.

If I had stayed I probably would have died a no name middle class merchant son. Probably a bit of money, little status and a bride my family would have arranged for me with a few kids popped out of the way.

Sanmaru Chuckled at those thoughts. It seemed that he was finding himself in an arranged Marriage all the same nonetheless. Despite what he may or may not have desired in life, it looks like an arranged marriage was always going to be outside of his destiny.

A knock on the door brought him out of his thoughts, though Sanmaru had sensed who the person was through Observation Haki long before they entered.

"Come in Marlowe" allowed Sanmaru letting his first mate come through.

At 46, Marlowe was a man who was old enough, if at a young age, to be his Captains father. And while Sanmaru commanded the ship he wouldn't have even lived a long enough to sail to sea if Marlowe wasn't here with him.

"Thinking about that day boss?" grunted Marlowe as he sat down on one of the chairs next to the small table

Sanmaru smiled knowing what Marlowe meant "How can I not. I tried to kill myself back then didn't I? All for something as stupid as not passing a stupid Scholars exam"

"We all know it was probably rigged Boss" gently assured Marlowe waving his hand over Sanmaru's cabin" I mean think of how far you've come"

As if the Cabin of that was a blend of sturdy wood, practical furnishings, modest luxury, and personal mementos was a kingdom. Maybe it was compared this his own cabin on their old ship The Red Horse where the previous captains cabin was nothing but rough wood, minimal furnishings, and basic essentials.

"I seem to remember how a certain enforcer told me that suicide was the cowards way out" reminisced Sanmaru "And how he said that death was an end of hope."

"I did, didn't I?" grinned Marlowe "Then again I guess I was at the end of my hope as well back then. Man fresh out of prison with nothing but crime to go back to"

The two men paused letting the memories sink in between them. Savoring it. Then Sanmaru went hug his first mate at the table before opening a small, intricately carved wooden box that held a selection of teas on it.

"I love you Marlowe. Thank you for taking care of me all these years" wholeheartedly appreciated Sanmaru.

"And thank you for taking me out to sea with you" welcomed Marlowe as Sanmaru poured him a cup of black tea to drink.

The two men drank their fill in Silence. Sometime less was more between them. Once the cups were clear Sanmaru looked at his first mate.

"Well I guess I got a marriage to plan don't I?"

In the days that followed, the crew busied themselves with preparations. Sanmaru's decision to hold an open vote had reinforced their unity, and the prospect of joining forces with Big Mom had lit a fire of determination in their hearts. They were ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead, confident in their captain's leadership.

As dawn broke over the Ghostly Gale, Sanmaru called the crew together for one final meeting before setting sail to meet with Big Mom. The air was thick with anticipation as the fifty pirates gathered around him, their faces a mix of excitement and resolve.

"Today, we embark on a new journey," Sanmaru began, his voice steady and commanding. "Our decision to align with Big Mom is not one we take lightly. It is a path fraught with danger and uncertainty, but it is also a path that offers us the chance to achieve greatness."

He paused, letting his words sink in. "We have faced many challenges together, and we have always emerged stronger. This will be no different. We will navigate these treacherous waters with the same skill and determination that has brought us this far."

Marlowe stepped forward, his chains clinking softly. "Captain, the crew stands ready. We are prepared to face whatever comes our way. Together, we will conquer the seas and secure our place among the legends of the New World."

The crew erupted in cheers, their voices echoing across the deck. Sanmaru allowed himself a small smile, his heart swelling with pride. He knew that no matter what lay ahead, the Spectral Pirates would face it head-on, united and unbowed.

As the crew dispersed to make final preparations, Sanmaru took a moment to reflect on the journey that had brought them to this point. From their earliest days as a ragtag band of outcasts, they had grown into a formidable force, bound together by loyalty and a shared vision of glory.

Now, as they set their sights on a new horizon, Sanmaru was filled with a sense of anticipation and resolve. The alliance with Big Mom would test them in ways they had never been tested before, but it would also offer them the chance to achieve the greatness they had always sought.

With a final glance at his crew, Sanmaru turned his gaze to the open sea. The journey ahead would be long and perilous, but he was confident that with his leadership and the unwavering loyalty of his crew, the Spectral Pirates would emerge victorious.

And so, with the wind at their backs and the promise of a new dawn on the horizon, the Spectral Pirates set sail, ready to carve their own path to glory in the New World.
