Following the path out of the village, Kagome and Kouga walked shoulder to shoulder. Kagome insisted on walking, instead of Kouga carrying her in his whirlwind. At least for now. It had been a while since she traveled and she wanted to enjoy the journey, not just the destination. The air was hot and humid making Kagome's cotton kimono stick to her skin as she walked. Beads of sweat formed on her brow, and she brushed a strand of hair away from her face with a sigh.
"It's a lot warmer out here than I expected, what I wouldn't give for a pair of shorts or a sundress right now," Kagome remarked, fanning herself with her hand.
Kouga chuckled, a mischievous glint in his amber eyes. "You're not used to the wilderness anymore like I am, Kagome," he teased, casting a sideways glance at her. "But don't worry, I'll make sure you stay cool and comfortable."
Before Kagome could protest, Kouga conjured a small whirlwind around them, sending a refreshing breeze swirling around her. Kagome laughed, the cool air providing welcome relief from the oppressive heat.
"Thanks, Kouga," she said, smiling gratefully at him. "But let's save the running rides for later. I want to enjoy the journey on foot for now."
Kouga nodded, his smile widening. "As you wish, Kagome," he replied, falling into step beside her once more.
