III
Eleven stays silent as Peter—One? Henry?—destroys everything: the lab, the databases, the paper records…
No loose threads.
"Where… to?" she finally manages to ask once they are out in the open, underneath a full moon.
In front of her, Peter does not break his stride, and answers without so much as a glance back, his hand holding hers tightly, guiding her through the overgrown vegetation.
"If we are to survive, Eleven, we must first secure the means of our subsistence."
Eleven does not know the meaning of that last word: subsistence. Peter seems to realize this by her silence. This time, he shoots her a kind look over his shoulder and gives her his most gentle smile before looking back ahead.
"Money," he clarifies, and that's a word that even she can understand.
