Arizona's phone pinged a while later, she had no concept of time at that moment and whilst she wanted to shut out the world, Meredith had Sofia. It would be a phone call if urgent as already established, but it may have also been a picture, which would mend some of the damage inflicted to her heart tonight. She wearily unlocked the device and shot up in complete shock when she saw the message in front of her.

Calliope: "I stole this, sorry, I'll return it tomorrow when I come home."

There laid Callie with Arizona's John Hopkins hoody pressed up against her face. She was adorning a tired, weak, but clearly there, smile.

Arizona's heart was at a pace, this was the last thing she was expecting tonight, maybe ever again. Callie used the term 'home', said she was returning and was taking comfort in something that no doubt smelt like her. Realising she had done the same thing in grabbing a comforting item of clothing, she quickly snapped a selfie in the 'Ortho Goddess' hoody and sent it back.

Arizona: "It's okay, I've stolen this, could we swap back tomorrow?"

'Calliope is typing' flashed across the screen, Arizona could hear her heartbeat in her ear.

Calliope: "Sure, I'll bring it back with some more things, is that okay?"

How quickly did tears replenish? Because the ones of pain and sorrow Arizona thought she had exhausted earlier were replaced with ones of relief, happiness and joy. Laughing at how ridiculous the human body can be, she beamed into her response.

Arizona: "Yes of course it is Calliope, I can't wait to see you."

As she received the text, Callie knew the ball was in her court. Arizona had laid it all on the line tonight, she had explained and answered everything she was asked to. She couldn't ask for more than that. She made the decision. Laying in her own bed, she slowly positioned herself so she was sat up, still struggling slightly due to the healing ribs. She selected the FaceTime icon and a tired looking blonde answered before the first ring even completed. Despite her tired, emotionally shattered look, her person was still the most beautiful woman she'd even laid her eyes on. Would ever lay her eyes on.

Sniffles. "Hey, are you okay?"

Callie smiled but gave slight pause, trying to find her words. "I'm okay, I just needed to do it by myself tonight, get my head round things." She tried to hide a blush that was forming but failed, "but then I realised how much I missed you." Neither said a word, the admission was met by shy smiles from both surgeons. "But I want to move on Arizona, and I trust you, I do, otherwise I wouldn't be doing this. You've proved since Simon happened just how dedicated you are to me and our family." She looked her dead in the eye, "You asked if I could ever forgive you, and I can, I can because I know it wasn't you, not the Arizona Robbins I married, not who you are now."

The blonde nodded, her person's forgiveness setting off a new wave of emotions. "Yes Callie, I wasn't, I wasn't me, it wasn't me. I promise it's only ever been you. I love you Calliope, and I promise you-"

She knew she was interrupting, but she didn't need any more apologies or explanations. "It's okay Arizona, you said a lot tonight, you answered my questions, ones that I didn't really want to know, but had to know." The strength and commitment in her voice was returning. "You don't have to apologise anymore, we're moving on, together, as a family, no more dwelling on this, okay? For either of us. I love you, that never changed, despite what happened. I don't think I know what it's like not to love you, I don't think I ever will. I don't ever want to."

The blonde could feel herself on the edge, her senses and emotions had been pulled from pillar to post that evening, and what she was hearing now was everything she ever wanted. "Calliope…" she drifted off, she really didn't know what was happening, where this was going.

"I know you lack confidence in yourself, especially if you deserve me, but you deserve the world Arizona. You're not a bad person, as I said you've made a few mistakes but who hasn't? I know I have. I'm ready to put this one to bed, I don't have any more lingering questions or doubts." Knowing her time to answer Arizona's biggest issue would come, she made a promise she knew she could keep. "I know we still have a lot to discuss, there will be things I did that hurt you, and I'm ready to face all the questions you deserve answers to. Like you did for me. I promise you; I will do everything I can do show how dedicated I am and explain everything and anything you need to understand."

They were in this.

Her voice delicate. "Thank you Calliope." She could have perhaps left it there, they were no longer going to bed on bad terms, but she loved talking to her person, seeing her face, she didn't want to hang up. After earlier tonight she was sure she's never get the chance again.

She was snapped out her thoughts when Callie broke the silence. "I err, have a better memory than the one earlier, is it too late to share?"

Arizona laughed and wiped away yet more happy tears. "No, I'd love to hear it, it's not too late." Callie giggled and excitedly (and tenderly) got off the bed. The peds surgeon could hear some rustling but her ortho goddess still sounded near. Was she getting a picture? A piece of clothing? A ticket stub? When Callie returned with the item, she held it up with goofiest of grins. Arizona leant forward and gasped. "You've still got him?!"

"I do."

"I thought you would have got rid of him-", she was near speechless, "I- I thought for sure you would have got rid of him years ago, I can't believe you kept him." She leant in even further, her dimpled smile near enough taking up the whole screen, and Callie was more than happy with that.

"Who? Mr Teddington Bear? Not a chance." She smiled as she pressed the slightly raised button on his foot, five times in total, and out played five voice messages left by the blonde.

'Calliope you are awesome.'

'Your girlfriend is awesome.'

'Your girlfriend loves you.'

'Meet your girlfriend in the on-call room.'

'Your girlfriend likes the girl who has the sandwiches.'

Arizona was still in awe, she repeated, softly, still disbelieving, "I can't believe you kept him."

The next sentence was something Arizona always admitted, both openly and to herself. But Callie never did, not once, she couldn't open herself up for more hurt. Here it goes. "I always hoped we'd find our way back to each other."

To say the blonde was stunned at that admission was an understatement. The reason why she didn't date, hadn't really anyway, since the divorce is because she always hoped they'd reunite too. It was a bit of an open secret. She didn't just move on as quickly as Callie did, Callie didn't seem hurt, she didn't cry herself to sleep, cry in on-call rooms, she didn't miss her with every fibre of her being. Did she? "Di- did you? Did you really?" This wasn't happening, she'd wake up soon.

"Yes Arizona, of course I did. I guess I was just good at hiding it."

Snuggling in deeper, she was in heaven. "Tell me about your happy memory with Mr Bear."

"Put some respect to his name Dr Robbins, It's Mr Teddington Bear."

"I'm sorry of course, please tell the story of Mr Teddington Bear, Dr Torres."

"Well, it was the Valentina's Day we swapped necklaces and had that huge trauma come in. We came home after what felt like a million hours," Arizona snorted; she loved the exaggeration, "and we just collapsed on the bed, face first. After a while you shot up so fast, I had no idea what triggered your sudden burst of energy. By the time I'd turned myself around you were stood at the end of our bed, with a smile that always made my breath hitch, and offered me this overly colourful box."

"You did not look impressed."

It was true. "I thought it would be some sort of plant or a colourful abstract piece of art or something, but because you were so excited, I knew whatever it was, I would love it."

Timidly, "and you did?"

Callie produced her biggest and most bestest (not a word, but very apt) smile, "and I did. After that day whenever I needed a confidence boost, or to hear your voice, or needed comforting, Mr Teddington Bear was my go-to." She sighed; it was hard to admit. "Even after the divorce."

Arizona couldn't take it anymore. She knew she couldn't see her person that night, but she was desperate to take her in, kiss her, hold her, be with her. "Are you working tomorrow?"

Slightly surprised at the change of subject, she nevertheless answered. "I am."

"Can I come pick you up? So you don't have to drag your stuff to the hospital and back here?"

"Like a personal chauffer?"

Dimples. "Got to treat my lady right."

They continued their conversation into the night, probably later than they should have, but they were used to being sleep deprived surgeons. They had addressed the issue of… ahem, you know who, certainly enough for Callie to move on, and for some of Arizona's guilt to dissipate.

After several yawns, Callie was spent. Both were wearied eyed but looking forward to seeing each other tomorrow. Without hesitation, Déjà vu set in. "Will you fall asleep with me?"

Even more dimples, dimples SO big they dimpled more than any other dimples that dimpled before them. "There isn't a time my answer to that question would be no, Calliope."

And like that first night at the hospital, that's exactly what they did.
