Klaus looked at his watch as he impatiently waited for his brother's arrival. Elijah should've arrived by now. If he didn't get there soon, Klaus was going to get the doppelganger regardless of his brother's disapproval. The Salvatore's were idiots. They could barely be trusted with a normal new vampire, let alone a new original.
Klaus had had no use for Elena Gilbert a day ago. He hadn't cared when he found out she was a vampire, other than to be irritated that his blood source was now gone. Rebekah was truly lucky she didn't find herself daggered for that. However, the moment Klaus realized Elena was one of them, things changed. The moment she became one of them, she became their responsibility. He wasn't going to allow her to be left to starve.
Klaus soon heard someone enter the mansion. He walked out of his studio just in time to see Elijah walk up the stairs with a sleeping doppelganger in his arms. It seemed Elijah had gone straight to the Salvatore's to take care of the situation.
Elijah wordlessly passed his brother and brought Elena into his room. He placed her in his bed and covered her up. He would get a room set up for her soon, but for now, she could sleep in his bed.
After getting Elena situated, Elijah walked out of the room and back over to his brother. He motioned for him to follow him downstairs. He went downstairs and to the living room. He then poured himself a glass of Scotch.
"I presume you got her fed," Klaus said.
"Of course. It was the first thing I took care of," Elijah said.
"How long had it been?" Klaus wondered.
"Weeks," he spat angrily.
"Bloody hell! You should've let me go get her last night," Klaus said. He'd always known the Salvatore's were idiots, but allowing the doppelganger to starve for that long was taking their stupidity even further than he thought was possible. They were lucky she didn't end up slaughtering the whole town.
"What's done is done," Elijah said before taking a seat on the couch.
Klaus smirked slightly. That was Elijah's way of saying he was right.
"Where is Rebekah?" Elijah asked. He intended to have a long talk with his sister. What she had done to Elena was reprehensible. She was going to answer for it.
"She's playing human. She's been attending that school again," Klaus said. He would never understand his sister's desire to attend high school. Such a thing was beneath her.
"Well, I hope she enjoys it because it's her last day. If Elena doesn't get to lead a normal life, neither does Rebekah," Elijah said angrily.
Klaus grimaced. He knew that tone well. Elijah was livid, and he was going to punish Rebekah. It was rare for Elijah to do more than raise lecture their sister, but on the rare occasion that he punished her, it was probably enough to make her wish for the dagger. "For what it's worth, Rebekah didn't know this would happen. At the most, she may have thought Elena might turn into a regular vampire."
"It's worth nothing, Niklaus! She set out to either change or end that young woman's life forever! And she succeeded! She doesn't get a pass because she didn't realize that it would end up worse than she thought!" Elijah said angrily. He loved his sister, but she had taken everything from Elena, even her ability to die, and she knew what that was like. He intended to make sure she knew his displeasure for that.
Klaus nodded. "So, what did you do with the Salvatore's?"
Elijah smirked. "The last time I saw them, they were enjoying a peaceful sleep due to broken necks."
"I suppose that means we should be expecting them to show up at some point," Klaus said. He wasn't worried about it, of course. Those two idiots were no match for them, however, it would be mildly irritating.
"Probably. I need you to get rid of the staff immediately. I can't have Elena around humans unless she's feeding," Elijah said.
Klaus huffed irritably. "What am I supposed to do without them?"
Elijah shrugged. "Hire some desperate vampires or do things for yourself for a change. They won't be much help to you if Elena slaughters them because of her lack of control."
"Fine," Klaus said reluctantly. He liked having a few humans around. They were an easy source of food, as well as help around the mansion. He supposed Elijah was right though. It wouldn't do if the newest member of them killed them all.
Just then, they heard three large bangs at the door, causing Klaus to laugh. "I have a suspicion that that's for you, brother."
Elijah got up and went to answer the door. Unsurprising, he found himself face to face with two irate Salvatore brothers. "Gentlemen, I see you've awoken from your nap."
"Where is she? Elena!" Stefan yelled.
"Keep your voices down! Elena is asleep, and if this nonsense wakes her, I will rip out your tongues!" Elijah warned dangerously.
"I think it would be an improvement, brother," Klaus said as he appeared behind him.
"Now, if the two of you think you can behave yourselves, you may come inside, and I will explain to you exactly how things are going to go," Elijah said before motioning with his hand for them to walk inside.
Stefan and Damon wordlessly walked inside, though they did glare at Elijah.
"Excellent," Elijah said as he shut the door.
"Here's how things are going to go, Jackass. You're gonna give us Elena and you're gonna stay the hell away from her," Damon said angrily.
Klaus chuckled. "Damon, your stupidity never ceases to amaze me. Elena isn't going anywhere. The two of you have already failed miserably at helping her. Do you realize she'd probably be dead by now if she were human and went this long without food?"
"We did everything we could. She couldn't keep anything down. We tried animal blood, blood bags…" Stefan started.
"You fed her animal blood?" Elijah asked in a murderous tone. That was worse than feeding her nothing. That would make a normal vampire sick and weak, let alone an original. They were torturing her.
"Look, I know it's not ideal, but it can work," Stefan said defensively.
"Maybe for a ripper, but not any other vampire, and it is entirely unacceptable for an original!" Elijah snarled. He would like to rip Stefan's heart our right now. He was forcing his lifestyle on a young woman he knew would do anything for him.
"She wanted to try it," Stefan said.
"Did she? I find it more believable that she simply wanted to please you. You tortured her, and when you weren't torturing her with unworkable food choices, you let her starve!" Elijah said angrily.
"She wouldn't drink from the vein. What were we supposed to do? Force feed her?" Damon asked.
"If necessary. It would be better than letting her desiccate, wouldn't it? Or slaughtering half the town because she's so hungry she can't think straight?" Klaus asked.
"Since when do you give a crap about Elena? You tried to kill her twice," Damon said.
"She's an original. She's one of us now," Klaus said.
"She'll never be like you," Damon sneered.
"Elena is staying here. Neither of you have any say in the matter," Elijah said.
"The hell she is!" Damon snapped before taking a step towards Elijah.
Stefan pulled his brother back. He hated this, and he wasn't going to just sit back and leave the girl he loved to fend for herself amongst a bunch of originals, but a direct confrontation with Elijah and Klaus wasn't going to help Elena. It would just end up getting him or his brother killed. They were no match for Elijah and Klaus. They needed to bide their time for now. "Can we see her?"
"No. I told you, she's asleep, and she needs that sleep after starving for two weeks. When she is fit for visitors, I will tell her you were here, and she can decide if she wants to call you or see you," Elijah said. He honestly didn't want them around Elena at all. They had proven themselves to be more harmful to Elena than anything else. But it was Elena's choice. There were already so many of her choices that he would have to take away from her. He didn't want this to be one of them.
"You'll let us come see her?" Stefan asked.
"If she wants to, and as long as you behave yourselves while you're here," Elijah said.
"No, there's no way this is happening!" Damon yelled.
"Shut up, Damon," Stefan said while he continued to look at Elijah. "What does that mean?"
"It means that I will be helping Elena to feed and gain control of her emotions and abilities. You will not interfere with that. You will not comment on how she feeds, and if I hear of even one instance of you trying to push her to animal blood, you will be lucky to leave with your head still attached to your body," Elijah told him.
"You're going to make her feed on living people. She'll kill someone, and then she'll never forgive herself," Stefan protested.
"You're right, she will kill someone, probably more than one, and she will feel the guilt of that. It's unfortunate, but there's no other option. I don't know what it is about that you cannot comprehend. Elena has to drink from the vein or she'll desiccate, and I won't allow that," Elijah said firmly. Elena couldn't feed from him indefinitely. That was a temporary solution. She had to learn to feed on humans. It would be very difficult for while, but eventually, he would be able to get her to a point where she could feed without killing. "So, do we understand each other, gentlemen?"
Damon glared at Elijah. "No, we don't…"
"Yes! We'll do what you want," Stefan said. He would for now anyway, until he could think of a way to save Elena.
"Excellent. You know where the door is," Klaus said.
Stefan grabbed his brother and practically forced him out of the house.
"You know that was too easy, don't you?" Klaus asked.
"Of course, but I am not concerned. What ever they try will fail spectacularly. Now, I need to feed before you dismiss the staff. I'll have to have Elena feed off of me for the next couple of days, until I can get her to where she should be at this point. When Rebekah returns, tell her I want to see her immediately," Elijah said.
"Very well. She might prefer to be daggers though," Klaus said, only partially joking.
"Oh, no. She doesn't get to have the dagger," Elijah said furiously before walking away.
