A/N: Sorry for the fragment. Might be the last one for the bit.
I had plans to update "Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover" and "The Golden Grimm" with "Everybody Wants to Be My Enemy" but life derailed 'em.
Long story short, I'm dealing with a bad breakup -right before the sodding holidays, of course- so I'm not in the best place as things stand. I'll spare you the specifics, but it I reckon it happened due in no small part with both of us working and not seeing one another as much, I suppose. It was bound to happen. Things got cold. I wish her all the best.
Still, this sucks. Right before the holidays?
*siiiiiigh*
So. Here we go. A story that's been taking up space in my heads-pace for awhile now.
As ever, I own no references, themes or memes!
Now then, with that said...awaaaay we go~!
Again, this is a fragment.
Time will tell if this becomes a story.
"Whyever would I ever need a guard?!"
Don't be foolish, girl; he's the best at what he does.
He's served our family well. He'll keep you safe...even if it costs him his life."
~Mel and...?
Third Fragment
The rocket struck the window.
At least Mel thought it did; if only because she'd felt her shoulders tingle at the last moment.
She heard the telltale sound of glass shattering, heard the saw a brief flash of something, and then:
BAKRAM!
A golden blur interposed itself between her and certain death. She had time enough to glimpse a golden blur framed by red eyes -to hear the faint sound of a young man scoffing- before her world became heat and light. Not a moment later, it hit. The sheer force of it blew her hair back and ripped her from her seat, upturning the table. Councilors were flung in every direction like dolls made of straw. And yet, for all that, no one died.
"Ouch!" the voice of a young man yelped instead. "Hot, hot, hot!"
At ground zero, Mel saw it all. Two glowing hands extinguished the blast, snuffing it out between his palms like a blown candle. The ruined remains of the rocket crumbled to the floor and smoldered away. A sandal-clad foot stomped down on the remains, even as its owner waved their hands and hissed in pain.
He'd intervened, of course. He always did.
"Well," she tutted. "You certainly don't lack for timing, dear."
"Sorry!" his smile was sunshine itself. "Guess I'm getting a bit rusty in my old age." he reached down for her. "You alright?"
It paid to have good help.
Least of all when said "help" was your husband...
"Now, then." she hummed as she climbed to her feet. "Where were we?"
Somewhere in the distance, she could've sworn she heard someone -a girl?- shout their denial. "No fair!"
A/N: Aaaand there we are.
So? Whatcha think? Should this be a story? Yay? Nay? Lemme know!
Surgery hurts. Surgery hurts a loooot. But silence from readers and reviewers? That hurts even more.
As ever, reviews keep this old man alive during this dark and crazy time. I ain't joking.
Seriously, we're all locked away anyways these days, its all that sustains me.

(Preview)
Caitlyn blinked at the boy. "Who're you?"
The boy blinked last. Or at least he tried. Bandages made that difficult. "Hey! I asked first."
They were, the both of them, children.
"You can't just take over the council!"
"Can. Am. Have." Booted feet swung up onto the table. "If it makes you feel any better, I wanted to avoid this. But don't think of it as a hostile takeover." Naruto steepled his fingers and laid his chin atop them. "Think of it as...coming under new management. Speaking of which, you're all fired.
"Not you, Heimerdinger. You stay. You too, Caitlyn. We have work to do."
"I trusted you to do the right thing. It seems trust is overrated."
Something jabbed Marcus in the chest, bringing him up violently short.
By the time he realized it was a knife, his world had already begun to bleed away.
"Be careful with that! Someone could get hurt!"
"You'll be a whole lot more than hurt when I'm done with ya!"
"Uh, undead, remember? There's already a hole in my chest. Whatcha gonna do, gimme another?"
R&R~!
