Hi everyone! I'm back, and here's the next chapter. Will Sabrina and Libby be able to resolve their respective situations? Let's read and see.
Note: This chapter takes place during the Star Darlings episode "Dear Libby," except the events from the episode that are featured here are told through Libby's perspective.
Chapter 2
"It's all in the balance. Glimmer and shine!" A reassuring feeling came over Libby. She could do this. Without any second thoughts, she left her dorm room and headed for the Celestial Café.
It was the morning after her conversation with Sabrina, and all the other Star Darlings were having breakfast now. It would be the perfect opportunity to stand up for herself, and for her favourite subjects. But most importantly, her tendency to talk on and on about her favourite subjects.
Libby entered the café and looked around. Cassie, Astra, Piper, Gemma, Tessa, and Adora had just finished eating and were on their way to class, but Sage, Leona, Scarlet, Vega, and Clover were still seated at their special table. They saw her right away, and Vega smiled, waving her over. How sweet—it looked like her friends had saved her a seat in the middle of the table this morning!
Smiling, Libby headed toward their table. She remembered the advice Sabrina had given her and straightened her already-straight posture. The words she was going to say regarding her "issues" formulated in her mind. As she sat down, Libby took a deep breath, opened her mouth, and started to talk…but her voice trailed off as a saffron-haired Starling girl walked into the cafeteria. She was wearing a pink outfit—the most sparkliest, brightest, and startastic pink outfit even she had ever seen! Instantly Libby forgot about telling her friends that talking about her favourite topics so much wasn't a bad thing, and she instead blurted out, "Oh my stars! I just saw the super starriest pink outfit, I don't think I've ever seen this colour pink. It was like super sparkle PINK!"
Silence filled the Star Darlings' special table. Libby suddenly realized what just came out of her mouth and wordlessly gazed at each of her friends, smiling nervously. She expected to see them looking annoyed or something, but to her starprise, they were actually smiling at her. All knowing smiles, which she took to mean, It's okay, Libby. We know you love pink. Talk about pink all you want.
Instantly the flutterflies in Libby's stomach fluttered away. She didn't have to say anything after all; her friends had finally come to their senses. How it happened, she wasn't sure. Gemma could have reasoned with them, Cassie could have sensed how hard it had been on her, and Piper could have realized the problem through a dream. Whatever had happened, Libby was glad that her friends were finally appreciating her for who she was.
Sabrina arrived at Collège Françoise Dupont in her father's police car just as the bell began to ring. Seeing Alix and Alya walking up the steps, she hurried toward them in excitement. "Hi girls," she greeted, "Are you excited for school today?"
Alix rolled her eyes. "As excited as anyone can be when there's a science exam coming up."
Sabrina nodded. She knew science exams were hard enough in general, but for them, the exam would be extra tricky. Ms. Mendeleiev, the most strict teacher in the school, taught their science class, and only Chloe ever had the courage to mess with her. Ms. M was an intelligent no-nonsense woman who always seemed to sense when someone was breaking the rules—something Rose had learned the hard way after getting caught using her phone and spraying perfume during science class once.
"The science exam's not what I'm worried about though," Alya warned Sabrina. "I saw Chloe show up in her limo four minutes ago, and she looked like she's got something up her sleeve. Probably something to do with getting you back."
Sabrina gulped. "She did?"
"Yeah. Wouldn't put it past her to manipulate Mr. Damocles into wrongfully suspending you."
Sabrina winced. Manipulating their principal into wrongfully suspending another student was something Chloe had done before. That student had been Alya of course, because she'd been caught taking pictures of the inside of Chloe's locker—something that should have been punished by an hour of detention. Sabrina had been there for all the details, and she'd even assisted Chloe in the manipulations. She felt bad about it now, but Alya had forgiven her surprisingly easily. Anyways, the teenage journalist had a point. Chloe's bribing days looked like they were over.
"Don't worry," reassured Sabrina. "No matter what Chloe does, I'll know exactly what to do. Being her ex-friend and the daughter of a police officer has its advantages."
"Hopefully enough advantages to keep you out of trouble," mumbled Alix as they entered their school.
Once inside the classroom, Alix went to sit beside Mylène, while Alya took her seat at an empty table and saved a seat for her apparently (and predictably) tardy best friend Marinette. Sabrina went to the back of the room to sit beside Ivan, and as she did, she stiffened when she walked past Chloe. The cruel girl usually tried to bribe her the moment she came near her, but today there was a scary glare on her face and she wasn't saying anything. Alya was right—Chloe definitely had something nasty planned for Sabrina. The question was, what?
Sabrina arrived at her and Ivan's table and started to sit down, when he raised a hand to stop her. She gave him a confused look, and he silently pointed to the space next to him on their bench. Looking down, she could see there was a sticky note lying next to him, with a message written in Chloe's handwriting. It read, This is your last chance, Sabrina. Either pay the easy way or the hard way. Your choice.
A nervous feeling came over Sabrina. She looked at Chloe, who was turning around in her seat to give her a spiteful smile. The girl even held up her phone, which meant she was going to call her daddy—the mayor of Paris—if her ex-BFF didn't return to her side. For a moment, Sabrina was tempted to go back to being Chloe's slave again, but then her eyes caught Alya's, and Nino's, and then Mylène's, Alix's, Max's, Kim's, Rose's, Juleka's, Nathaniel's, and Ivan's. And, because she happened to burst into the classroom tardy at that moment, Marinette's as well. If she went back to catering Chloe all the time, it would mean betraying all the real friends she had now. Everyone in the class knew that too. All eyes were on her…well, except for Lila's. For some reason she was the only one in the room who didn't seem to realize how serious this situation was.
After glancing at Chloe, and then at her classmates, Sabrina yanked the sticky note off her bench. "You can threaten me all you want, Chloe, but I've made up my mind. Unless you start treating me and everyone else in Paris better, I'm never going to take your side again!"
Chloe stood up and started to object, but Sabrina ripped the sticky note in half to emphasize her point. Then she ripped the halves into smaller and smaller pieces, until they were so tiny that even she couldn't see them anymore. The class burst into applause, and Sabrina sat next to Ivan while Chloe plopped back into her seat, teeth clenched in fury. She then let out a scream of fury, not realizing Ms. Mendeleiev was entering the classroom just in time to hear her do so until the serious science teacher said, "Chloe, we don't yell in the classroom! If you won't let your peers concentrate, go to the boiler room and do your exam there."
Grunting in frustration, Chloe got up and stomped out of the room. Just before she disappeared into the hallway, she yelled, "You will pay for that, Raincomprix!"
Everyone gasped. Until now, Marinette (the one classmate of hers she disliked the most and had loathed for four years) had been the only one in class that Chloe had ever referred to by their last name. So, when she heard her call her by her last name, Sabrina trembled a little. She could already tell this day was going to be a long one—and not just because of the science exam.
Throughout the school day, Sabrina kept herself mentally prepared, in case whatever Chloe was planning came out at her unexpectedly. But much to her surprise, no acts of payback came her way. No gum on the seats she sat in, no making fun of her for various reasons, nothing. She didn't even do anything to bother Marinette, which was even more unusual.
Finally, when there was only twenty minutes left before the dismissal bell would ring, Miss Bustier made an announcement to all of her students (except Chloe, who was instructed to stay with Ms. Mendeleiev after her outburst that morning). She was proud of them for finishing their science exams and thought it would be nice to give them a reward: a trip to the library.
"Aw man," groaned Kim. "Why can't we just leave school early instead?"
Miss Bustier chuckled. "I was just kidding, Kim. Your reward is an opportunity to leave school early."
Everyone in the class cheered, and they quickly got up and started gathering their things. However, Miss Bustier clapped her hands and said, "Wait, wait! Students, before you leave, I do have one more announcement. As strange as it may sound, I received a phone call during lunch. Starting tomorrow, a new student will be joining our class."
The students gasped in shock. "A new student? Now?" Nino exclaimed.
"But the last day of school is next week," said Marinette. "Today we just finished our science exams!"
"I know," said Miss Bustier. "I'm not sure why her enrolment couldn't wait until after summer break, but Mr. Damocles insisted she join your class as soon as possible. Apparently she's just moved to Paris and has always dreamed of meeting Chloe, and she really wanted to be her classmate. And, well…the principal just couldn't say no to her."
"I think it'll be fun to have a new classmate, even if it's just for a little while," Lila told her. "Then I won't have to be the new girl anymore. And even better, she'll get to hear about all my travel adventures with Prince Ali!"
Marinette gave Lila an annoyed frown. "You're just glad we're getting a new classmate because that means there'll be one more person for you to lie to."
Sabrina sighed. She wasn't sure why, but Marinette always accused Lila of lying to everyone about something. As a result, the two of them had never exactly gotten along, and it didn't seem like they ever would. It just didn't make sense though; apart from Chloe, Lila was the only person in class that Marinette wasn't on good terms with. But Sabrina wasn't about to ask why that was. Not with Marinette and Lila in the same room.
"What's our new classmate's name?" Juleka asked, changing the subject.
"Mr. Damocles said her name was Vivica Dipper," replied Miss Bustier.
Sabrina jumped. Vivica…Dipper? Was it just her, or did that name sound a little coincidental?
Max gasped. "Vivica? Isn't that the name of Jagged Stone's guitarist?"
"Yeah, it is!" Alya said. "What a coincidence!"
Sabrina nodded, but that wasn't the reason why she thought the same way. She was thinking of a different Vivica—one that none of her classmates knew about.
Flashback to "Star Perfectionist"
Sage, Libby, Scarlet, and Leona were in the Lightning Lounge, rehearsing their Star Darlings band songs. Sabrina, disguised as Vega, was there too, having just learned how to play the blue Starling's bass guitar.
"We'll start with Starlight," said Leona, "Clover can help you with the notes as we go along. The rest of you, just play the way we always do." Sage, Libby, and Scarlet nodded, and they began to play their instruments. Clover helped Sabrina strum the right notes for the first half of the song, but eventually she got the tune memorized and was able to play on her own. Relieved, Clover turned and headed for the door, but before she could open it, someone else opened it from the other side. Sabrina looked up and saw that it was a girl—definitely a Starling. She had on a pink shirt, a blue skirt, pale leggings, and pink shoes. Her hair was long and had a colour mixture of silver and pale blue. There was a glare on her face that instantly reminded Sabrina of Chloe.
"Practising your pathetic band again, Star Dippers?" the Starling scoffed.
"Go away, Vivica," sneered Leona.
End of flashback
No that's impossible, Sabrina thought, How could Vivica have a way to go to Earth? She's not a Star Darling, so she would have to graduate Starling Academy to become a fully-qualified wish granter. And she's a first-year student, so she's not going to be graduating for three more years! But still, Sabrina couldn't shake the feeling that, despite the circumstances, her new classmate was the same Vivica she'd met on Starland.
With Miss Bustier's announcements finished, all the students in the classroom gathered their things and left the building. Sabrina saw her father waiting to pick her up and stepped into his car, closing the door behind her and sitting next to him.
"Hi Daddy," greeted Sabrina. "Anything interesting happen today?"
Her father, Roger, sighed warily. "Not today. The only thing I really did on duty was have another little talk with Mr. Ramier about his pigeons. That man just never learns."
Sabrina was about to reply, when she saw something in the corner of her eye and peered out the window. Chloe's father was walking into the school, which could only mean one thing: his daughter was having more trouble with Ms. Mendeleiev and had dialled his number. Instantly Sabrina remembered Chloe's threat and turned back toward her father. "Daddy…if Mayor Bourgeois suddenly decides to fire you, you don't have to listen to him. You don't have to let people in higher power control everything you do."
Roger stared at her in confusion. "What are you talking about? I don't let anyone control my actions."
"Yes you do," insisted Sabrina. "And not all of those people are in higher power than you. Remember when you almost arrested a disabled man just because the conductor on the bus he was on said he was a terrorist? That was just an excuse to cover up the fact that he wouldn't let the disabled person sit in the handicapped area because a non-disabled man was already there."
"Sabrina, that conductor is the mayor's stepbrother! I couldn't just—"
"That's not the point. If someone tells you what to do, you don't have to obey them just because they told you to. You have rights too. If Mayor Bourgeois tries to fire you for the wrong reasons like that time Chloe's bracelet disappeared, you have the right to arrest him."
There was a pause, and then Roger turned toward her again. "What made you think back to that?"
Sabrina sighed. "I finally realized Chloe's been treating me unfairly, and I ended our friendship. Today she's trying to find a way to get back at me, and I wanted to warn you…in case she's going to call Mayor Bourgeois and make him fire you."
Roger froze. "Oh," he said quietly. He went silent again, and for a moment, Sabrina was afraid he would try to make her and Chloe reconcile. But much to her surprise, he instead put his arm around her. "I'm glad you wanted to protect me from an injustice. Serve and protect, that's our Raincomprix motto! And don't worry. I'll do my best to fight for what's really right."
His daughter smiled, and they shared a hug. "Now buckle your seatbelt," Roger advised her, "because that's the law too. No injustice there."
Sabrina laughed, and as she strapped herself in, her father started the car's engine. Once her seatbelt was on, they headed home.
Libby opened her wardrobe, searching through the dresses inside of it. She was trying to find something to wear for the Shining Star Dance; something pink, of course. The problem was, basically everything in her wardrobe was pink. She would have to try on all the dresses and see which one seemed like the best option.
As she tried on each dress and looked at her reflection to see how it looked on her, Libby thought about how things had gone today. Classes had ended two starhours ago, but the best part of the starday was happened after that. Sage, Leona, Scarlet, Vega, and Clover had spent the next starhour hanging out with her, listening to her as she talked about Ganymede and the possibility of him introducing them to some boys from his school. For the first time ever, they'd actually enjoyed hearing her talk about that! Then they'd gone to an underground cave for some quiet time, and Scarlet, who was normally pretty antisocial, took Libby by surprise by asking her to tell them about the Shining Star Dance. It was the best starday ever!
Libby put on Dress Number 6 and did a little twirl in the mirror. Yep; this was the one. Too bad her friends from the band had to leave so they could tend to other matters a starhour ago. She was sure they would have thought she looked beautiful in this outfit! It was pink, sparkly, bright, and vibrant—perfect for the Shining Star Dance! Everyone, hopefully including Ganymede, would love it.
After putting the other dresses away, changing back into the outfit she'd started out with, and placing her dance dress on a chair as a reminder, Libby happily walked toward the door leading out of her bedroom. It would be time for dinner in a matter of starmins, and she couldn't wait to spend more quality time with her friends. However, when she left her room, Libby was met with a rather interesting starprise. Clover was sitting at her DJ table in the Little Dipper Dorm's main room, with Vega and Leona on her left, and Sage and Scarlet on her right. Leona appeared wary and had a hand on her hip, while Sage looked annoyed and had her arms crossed. Clover and Scarlet looked wary as well, but Vega just looked nervous.
Libby was starprised and confused, but she gave them a cheerful reply as she stepped into the room. "Oh my stars! Girls, what's going on?" she asked. Then Libby gasped and adopted a knowing tone. "Is this a party?"
"No," said Scarlet, frowning. "This is an intervention."
"We think you have a problem, Libby," added Sage. Now she was looking a little concerned.
Libby had a feeling she already knew where this was going: in a few seconds, her friends were going to tell her that her "problem" was her tendency to talk on and on about boys, pink, parties, and shoes. But how could that be? Today they'd actually enjoyed listening to her chatting about those things! They probably meant something else; maybe the "problem" they were about to bring up was the fact that she tried way too hard to please others.
But regardless of that, Libby still replied, "What? Me? A problem?" Oops—maybe that came out a little too quickly.
Realizing how inexplicably nervous she was all of a sudden, Libby did her best to keep it inside of herself. She then let out a short chuckle to hopefully camouflage her slip-up, before adding, "No. But I don't have any problem." Starf—those words came out even faster than her first few!
All of a sudden, Libby also realized that the smile on her face had become kind of awkward-looking. She thought of trying to fix it, but the fear of her jumpiness making her responses sound even more weird kicked in, so she just kept quiet instead, hoping the girls wouldn't see how nervous she was getting. What was going on with her?
"You do," insisted Vega, thankfully not seeming to pick up on Libby's awkward actions. "And you have to face it."
"Hit it, Clover," said Leona.
Clover nodded and pressed a few buttons on her DJ station. Instantly, fun music began to play, and then a routine of words; a remix! But it wasn't just any remix. It was a remix with lyrics that went like this: Pink pink pink pink! Boys! Boys! Pink pink pink pink…
Then Libby suddenly realized that the "problem" her friends were trying to point out wasn't her trying too hard to please others. It was her tendency to talk on and on about her favourite subjects—which, she now realized, was what she'd been hoping wasn't the case, explaining why she'd been so nervous. Instantly Libby's smile disappeared, as the sad and hurt feeling she was now experiencing came over her, refusing to be kept on the inside. Why were her friends doing this? Hadn't they been so happy listening to her talking about her favourite topics a few starhours ago? Then Libby's eyes widened and she placed her hand over her mouth as she suddenly realized something: the voice saying all the words in the remix was her voice. Clover must have secretly recorded everything she'd said today and put it in a song!
All at once, Libby understood everything. Sage, Leona, Scarlet, Vega, and Clover weren't only the ones who had seemingly been happy to listen to her go on tangents today—they were also the Star Darlings who had taken part in that secret meeting yesterday. They must have all been in on Clover's plan to make this remix. That also explained why Scarlet had brought up the Shining Star Dance, even if she didn't seem all that into it; she'd only done it to get Libby to go on another tangent, so Clover would have something else to put in her remix! With a mixture of surprise and hurt on her face, the pink Starling eyed each of her friends, from Scarlet all the way to Vega. Now Vega was giving her a polite knowing smile, Sage and Scarlet looked concerned, and Clover and Leona looked wary—obviously not pleased at having to listen to the words in the remix.
The remix finished playing, and unable to stop herself, Libby, now with both hands over her mouth, let out a strangled gasp. How could her friends just…betray her like this? Okay, maybe betrayal wasn't exactly the best word to describe what they did, but she felt so hurt by the whole thing that she couldn't think of a better term to use. It had all been a trick—a trick to get her to change part of who she was, which was the exact opposite of what she wanted.
"Oh…my…stars," Libby said quietly. She lowered her head and covered her face with her hands. She felt like crying, but she stopped herself just in time. She wanted to take Sabrina's advice and tell her friends how much this was hurting her, but the more she thought about it, the more the lump in her throat threatened to grow. She couldn't let herself cry. Not now. So, thinking quickly, Libby mustered all her mental strength. The night before she'd met Sabrina, Piper had planted a spell on Libby that turned the party-and-pink-related excitement she'd felt at the time into serenity. She knew the real reason why she'd done it now, and she felt hurt by it, but for once, maybe Piper's emotion-manipulating spell could do her a favour. She did have a few of those sparkles the serene Starling had sprinkled upon her left from that night…
All at once, Libby could feel the emotion-changing spell coming back into effect, this time turning her sadness into cheerfulness. Now able to manage a normal tone of voice again, she said the one thing she could think of to get her out of this situation for now: "That is…THE BEST SONG EVER!" She stood straight, pumping her fists in the air. White sparkles flying around her and an ecstatic smile appearing on her face, Libby rushed toward the other girls as she finished her sentence.
"What?!" exclaimed the rest of the girls. They clearly hadn't expected this.
"But don't you see that you have a problem?" Sage asked her in disbelief.
Libby scoffed, making sure that excited smile stayed on her face. "No no no no," she said. "The only problem with me is if Clover doesn't play that at the Shining Star Dance! Give me a beat, Clover."
Clover looked absolutely horrified, but she obeyed her and replayed the remix. Libby danced to it, trying to ignore Scarlet and Vega's complaining and block it out with her cheering and giggling. This went on for ten starmins until the girls' Star Zaps vibrated, signalling it was time for dinner. Clover turned off her stereo, and without a word, she, Sage, Scarlet, Leona, and Vega made their way to the Celestial Café. "Yeah, you go ahead," Libby said cheerfully, "I'll be there in a few starmins."
Libby skipped back into her bedroom, and as she closed the door behind her, the emotion-changing spell wore off. The sadness and hurt she'd felt earlier returned, and she collapsed onto her bed, still trying to process how all this could have happened to her. Did her friends (if that's who they were) have any idea how unfair they were being? They all had peculiar-sounding parts of them that made them different, all of which they'd come to accept. Why couldn't they accept hers? Why were they trying so hard to make her stop being herself? Most of all, how long would it take to get them to realize how hard this was on her?
The events of that starday were just so awful, Libby never ended up coming to the Celestial Café like she'd said. Instead she simply stayed in her room, watching the time tick by on her Star Zap, waiting for her roommate, Gemma, to come and start getting ready for bed. She just wanted the starday to be over—well, at least the parts of it she'd be spending on Starland. There was, of course, one part of the day that she knew for a fact wouldn't turn out to be so bad.
Sabrina removed her glasses and placed them on her nightstand. She lay down in her bed, and her father tucked her in. "Don't worry," he reassured her, "there haven't been any news from the mayor or Chloe."
"We should still be careful though," said Sabrina. "Chloe never just gives up, especially when she's angry."
Roger held her hand. "We can push through. Like you said, we have the right to make our own rights."
Sabrina laughed. "Good night, Daddy."
"Good night, sweetie."
After her father kissed her on the cheek, turned out the lights, and left, Sabrina waited until he was too far away from the door to hear her. She then grabbed her phone and set another alarm for midnight. Looking through the list of ringtones again and having no choice but to select the "purrfect one," she sighed. Maybe tonight Libby can help me get a new ringtone, she thought.
This brought a smile to her face. Yeah, that's a good idea! Why didn't I think of it sooner?
With her alarm set, Sabrina put her phone away and sighed, trying to relax. However, there was just too much on her mind. She still had to keep an eye out for anything Chloe might do as payback for the incident this morning, and there was also the new student announcement Miss Bustier had made this afternoon. Getting a new classmate so close to the last day of school was the opposite of normal, but that was just part of it. Sabrina had a strong feeling that the new student would recognize her the moment she entered the building, and vice versa. If it was really who she thought it was, this couldn't be good. Why would Starling Academy's meanest student be in Paris?
Easy, Sabrina told herself, There's still a chance that it's a different Vivica. Mr. Damocles did say she just moved to Paris, and her last name's an English name. She could be from New York or something. Maybe Jess and Aeon know her. Yeah, that was a possibility. But still, she couldn't help feeling nervous as she began to doze off…
M'lady, you're purrfect. M'lady, you're purrfect. M'lady, you're purrfect.
Sabrina yawned, turning off her midnight alarm. She really had to get a new ringtone. Hopefully she and Libby could come up with something good—something startacular, to be precise.
Stretching her arms, Sabrina put on her glasses. She'd just started getting out of bed to change when a bright light shot into her room through the window, startling her. Luckily, not enough to make her scream and wake up her dad! When the light cleared away, Sabrina blinked in surprise. "Libby? You're here earlier than usual."
"I know," said Libby, "I'm sorry. But today was a really bad starday, and…and I couldn't wait a few extra minutes. I just couldn't." There was a hint of distress in her voice, and Sabrina could tell right away that something had gone horribly wrong—and it had to do with their conversation last night.
"Come and sit down," Sabrina told her. Libby obeyed, and then she told her everything. How Sage and everyone at her secret Luminous Library meeting had suddenly allowed her to talk nonstop about her favourite subjects, how she'd thought it was because they'd finally come to their senses, only to realize they were really just trying to get her to stop her tangents by having Clover record everything she said and make it into a musical remix. And how Libby had been so taken aback, she hadn't had a chance to talk to them about how much they were hurting her feelings.
By the time she was finished telling her friend what happened, there were pink sparkly tears in Libby's eyes. "After listening to that song, I…I'm scared they're just not going to get it. And if they don't…what's going to happen?"
"You won't have to know," assured Sabrina. "Because they will get it. You just have to tell them how this is making you feel, and make sure it comes out strong and true."
Libby smiled and sniffled a little, and they embraced. "I hope you're right, Sabrina. I don't want to become some kind of outcast…"
"You can stand up for yourself. I know you can."
They spent the next few minutes in each other's arms, in silence. After that, they released each other, and Sabrina directed them towards a more positive subject by bringing up her ringtone situation. Libby laughed when she heard about that. "I think I've got just the thing," she said.
Using her powers, Libby managed to summon her keytar, the instrument she played in the Star Darlings band, and with Sabrina singing and recording it on her phone, she began to play. The song they chose to sing this time was one of the band's greatest hits, "Up." Well, an excerpt of it, that is; Sabrina's phone could only record a ringtone that was a few seconds long.
"Gonna give it all that I got. Shining when you tell me to stop! I'm a girl on a mission, making wishes. Living out my dream! You can try to steal my air, I'm not going anywhere but up, up! Anywhere but up!"
The recording finished faster than they expected, and Sabrina named it Shining Spectacular. A name that stuck out while at the same time keeping the Star Darlings' existence a secret. "I can't wait to start using this ringtone," Sabrina said excitedly. "Funny, it took so long for me to realize how weird it is to have recordings of people talking as alarm sounds."
Libby chuckled and then sighed contently. "So, how was your starday?"
"Well, on the bright side, Chloe's not trying to bribe me into becoming her friend again anymore. On the bad side, now she's trying to find a way to get revenge on me for leaving her." Then suddenly, her voice trailed off, and a nervous feeling came over her.
Noticing her expression, Libby held her hand. "I'm sure you'll be able to handle it, Sabrina."
"No, it's not that." Sabrina paused and then asked, "Libby, um…was Vivica at Starling Academy today?"
Libby frowned. "You know…I actually didn't see her at all. Not in class, not during our mealtimes, not anywhere." She paused. "How come?"
"Because…I know this sounds crazy, but…I think Vivica might be in Paris. Miss Bustier said a new student would be joining our class tomorrow, even if the last day of school is next week. And, coincidentally, her name is Vivica Dipper. Doesn't that sound odd to you?"
"It does," Libby admitted. She gazed out the window, into the night. "I don't think there's any way Vivica could have left Starland, but…if she's absent tomorrow too, I'll talk to Lady Stella and we'll see what happens. There is a chance she could have snuck to Wishworld the same way I've been doing it, but…why?"
"I don't know yet. Either she's trying to grant a wish, or she wants payback for the day I stood up to her back in the Lightning Lounge, during band rehearsal."
The girls sat in silence for a while, pondering the mystery. At this point, Sabrina was more than just sure of it—she knew. After what Libby said about the silver-haired Starling's absence, there was no doubt at all that she was in Paris. All they had to do now was figure out why before she put whatever plan she had in mind into action. While, at the same time, making sure Chloe didn't put her own plan into action, and ensuring Libby stood up for herself once she saw her fellow Star Darlings again.
Sabrina flopped back onto her back, sighing. "Think we can pull all that off at the same time?"
"Of course we can," affirmed Libby. "Tomorrow I'll talk to Lady Stella while you confirm that your new classmate is the Vivica we know. If it is, the girls and I will work something out, and I can use the mission as a chance to show them that I care about more than just pink and boys and stuff. That I have feelings too. Then all you'll have to worry about is Chloe, which Marinette and her friends can help you with! As long as we have each other, it'll be easy."
Sabrina smiled, and they hugged each other. But on the inside, she was still a little nervous. Hopefully their triple mission would go as easily as Libby was making it sound…
Oh boy. What will happen next? The upcoming third chapter will say it all; stay tuned! :)
