Chapter Two

She was busy running errands for her mother a few weeks later, her demon cats hovering over her shoulders like they often did. Ever since she got them, they were attached to her.

Eira, the ice one, often stuck close by her. She would often ride on her shoulders or on her head, while Enya, her fire-element companion, would sometimes walk ahead of her or beside her. Eira was more calm and aloof, while Enya was much more of a protective nature.

Kagome was distracted by the list in her hand of all the things she was to do today, only paying attention the slightest bit to her surroundings as she walked. She hummed, thinking which one was best to do first, only to be taken by surprise when she ran partially into someone heading the opposite direction. A hand steadied her, and she ignored when the person gripping her tensed up, steadying herself so they didn't have to support her.

"Thanks! Sorry about that," she said, stopping for a moment. Just briefly she glanced at the figure dressed in mostly black. Shaggy blue-tinted hair was the most defining feature she could place, but she also managed to catch a glimpse of widened crimson eyes hidden below messy bangs that obscured his face.

When she received no response, she shrugged and continued on her way in her hurry. She felt his gaze linger on her as she walked away, but she paid it no mind.

000

As she continued on her way, seemingly unbothered by anything and everything, he fixed his gaze on his hand, red eyes widened and stunned.

He'd reacted automatically, expecting her to crumble the moment his hand landed on her, but the decay never set in.

As she continued with what she was doing, Shigaraki lowered his hand back to his side and glanced back at her, watching silently.

It had no effect.

The exams for the recommendation students were a breeze for her. Her past days spent running around in the past had done well to prepare her for pretty much anything that might come her way. The race against other participants was easy. Her stamina was better than most people's, and she had managed to grow away from the faintest hint of clumsiness she'd had before.

Laying on her bed, her arms crossed below her chest, she let her gaze linger on the silver-haired demon standing and leaning against her closed door.

"I'm pleased to know you had no troubles," Sesshoumaru stated. Kagome perked up some, moving a bit to balance her chin on one of her palms. "I figured as much," he said, watching the small smile that flourished on her face. "So few can get close to what you've endured. You're far stronger than your peers. It's something to be proud of."

Kagome felt her cheeks take on a faint pink flush at his words, but she didn't say anything in response. Her silence was easy to note, and the demon arched a brow. That wasn't like her, that much he knew.

"Is something troubling you?"

She noticeably flinched at his question, shaking her head only a slight bit. "Not at all," she murmured. "I just… ran into a familiar face during the exam," she said. Sesshoumaru felt intrigue spark in him and he approached her.

"Oh?" His normally cold, stoic tone shifted. It was so easy to hear, especially for her. She didn't seem upset by it, nothing noticeable in her scent or tone sticking out to him. Kagome looked up at him as he drew closer. He didn't have to say anything more to let her know he wanted her to speak, to tell him what was on her mind.

She shifted on her bed, crossing her arms flush against the pillows as she laid her head flat on them. Her legs bent at her knees, and she crossed her ankles as she swayed them a tiny bit. As she did, that moment replayed in her mind.

She didn't put much attention on the others sectioned into different groups. Her focus went to the ones in her own, but still, something felt off to her. Maybe it was the way her heart was beating faster, or maybe it was how her senses kept pulling her focus elsewhere.

She brushed it off, keeping her focus on the task at hand. Still, despite that, she couldn't help but freeze up at the very end once it was all said and done for her group.

Suddenly it all made sense.

Her eyes met duo-colored ones over a distance, and she knew instantly who it was. Almost as if by instinct alone, a smile appeared on her face.

Even though it'd been so long, she knew it was him the moment their eyes met. They'd been placed in different groups, each one consisting of six students to compete against one another. They hadn't been able to speak a single word to each other due to being in different groups, but she could see it in his eyes, too, when she offered him a smile. He recognized her despite the differences time had done to her, and her refusal to keep the lie up for sake of appearances.

She hadn't been surprised, really. Ever since they were young, they had that sort of special bond. They were connected in a way others weren't. They were twins, after all. No matter what had happened in their youth, through separation and suffering, they were bound together by the finest of threads.

She knew that Sesshoumaru knew about her… unpleasant childhood days. Much like she'd done prior to Inuyasha, she explained the same things to the elder brother. Although he'd been more composed, she knew it'd made him just as angry. He knew her potential, and it burned him to know she'd been thrown away before she was able to prove anything to an otherwise harsh and cruel judge. Not even demons had traditions such as that.

"... my brother," she said, her tone soft and slightly muffed against her arms as she rested her chin on her folded limbs. "Or, well, my twin. I knew it was him the moment I saw him," she added, a small smile appearing on her face. "It's been so long, but I knew it was him, and I could see in his eyes that he knew it was me," she added with a faint laugh. "Kinda ironic. The lengths that man took to keep me away as if I'm nothing more than some ugly stain on his legacy, and it ends up being all for nothing. I can't help but think it's funny."

She had nothing to prove to Endeavor, and she had no desire to do anything of the sort. She sat up some, shifting to cross her legs underneath her as she changed positions. As she did, the two gifted kittens bounded over to her, each of them settling down on her legs happily. Kagome smiled and ran her fingers over both of them as they purred in a content rhythm.

They both were quite protective of her by instinct. They'd accepted and recognized her as their companion the moment they were given to her. The bells around their necks jingled a bit as her fingers grazed their collars.

"You were given permission for them to join you at school," Sesshoumaru said, and Kagome felt her eyes widen in surprise.

"Really?!" She wasn't able to keep her excitement at bay, and the two kittens in her lap seemed to share the same enthusiasm for this news, each of them perking up with curious eyes. When he nodded, she tilted her head to the side. "How'd you manage to get that allowed?"

The look he offered her nearly made her laugh. By now she knew better than to ask such things. The demon had his ways, and they always went as planned.

"The stipulation is that they are to remain in their kitten forms unless a situation were to call for their larger forms," he stated. "I'm certain that will be easy to maintain."

Kagome smiled and nodded. "You got it!"

"So you didn't tell her?"

Sesshoumaru glanced over his shoulder as he came to a halt, golden eyes landing on the auburn haired teen. "She had a lot on her mind already, I didn't want to add anymore," he stated. Shippo arched a brow, not buying into his claim.

"Uh-huh," he retorted, his tone flat. "You just wanna surprise her." When the older demon made no move to respond, Shippo smirked smugly. He was right! He knew he was.

In the few months that had passed since Kagome decided on her school of choice, getting accepted, and the fast-approaching start of her first year there, Sesshoumaru had made his own decisions without so much as sharing a single plan with the priestess in question.

It wasn't a secret to any of them that he had wanted her to go to an academy much closer to where he was most of the time to give him the ability to oversee and even pitch in with her training. He had trained her how to fight in the past, alongside Sango and the others, and he wanted to keep it as such. However, she wanted to stay close to family, and he couldn't fault her for it. He knew how much she loved them, and she wanted to enjoy as much time as she possibly could with them.

So, he'd come to his own decision without letting her know. They knew, but Kagome didn't.

"Well, I can't say I hate the idea of surprising her," he commented then, the faintest hint of a smile appearing on his face. "I'm sure, after all, that's why you've neglected to share your news with her, as well?" he hummed, challenging the auburn-haired kitsune beside him. Shippo smiled and shrugged.

"It's cuter when I surprise her, anyway," he stated, turning his nose up in the air as he passed Sesshoumaru.

How else was he supposed to keep nosy males away from his claimed mother, if not joining her in her school and class? What? Was he supposed to put all his faith in the old dog? That was laughable.

His mother was beautiful, strong, brave, and everything in between, and he knew that she attracted people as naturally as breathing. It was just her personality. She was warm and compassionate, and overly helpful to anyone who seemed to need it.

No one was gonna get too close to her- not without his approval of them first! He was the first obstacle of many, and he might as well be the hardest to break through. He'd sure as hell take immense pride in that, too.

He felt Sesshoumaru's glare pressing into him as he kept walking, and he turned a bit to glance over his shoulder with a smirk.

"I might just kill you during training, you annoying kit," he growled. Shippo wasn't fazed by those words. Instead, he merely smiled wider as if he took immense pride in getting on the older demon's nerves, as well.

There was no secret that he did.

Of course, he did.

Gold eyes narrowed as he watched the ravenette that stood opposite of him, poised and ready to block any attack he ran at her with. Her perfected form made him feel a sense of inherent pride, and he was unable to keep the smirk from forming on his otherwise stoic expression. "Good," he commented, watching her intently. "Remember, keep your breathing steady and-"

"Keep the upper hand," Kagome finished his sentence before could, her tone cold and mimicking his own. He tilted his head a fraction in a nod and rushed her without any other warning sign. Kagome narrowed her eyes, using her honed senses to track his rapid movements.

He lunged at her from the left, and she blocked the hit before it could land. She gripped his wrist as firmly as she could, heat from her palms leaving faint seared marks on his skin that weren't strong enough to faze him. Without missing a beat, she turned and swung him over her shoulder to slam him on his back. Once he was on the ground, she rested her bare foot on his chest, glaring silently down at him.

"Good," he said, offering her praise and urging her to move back, to which she did. "You're becoming more precise in your movements." She was hesitating less, following the instincts he'd worked hard to ingrain into her head. As he stood back up, he glanced at his hand and wrist, where the faint burn marks remained, surveying them with keen eyes. Kagome noticed soon after, turning her attention down with a subdued shine in her eyes.

"I burned you again, didn't I?" she asked, but she didn't bother to wait to hear the confirmation to what she already knew. "I'm sorry…"

"They'll heal overnight," he responded, brushing off her concern as he lowered his hand back to his side.

She normally had it under control, but the longer she sparred, but more of her physical energy got used up, and she would start pulling it from within her.

When her Quirk first started to manifest, it formed in time with her spiritual energy. It was connected to it, and, so, she'd learned to harness it just as she had her spiritual energy- hand in hand.

For the most part, her fire wasn't dangerous to other humans. It held potential for that, she was sure, but she was able to keep it under control. Her sacred energy bled into the heat of her flames, melding it into Sacred Fire. If she used it against demons in a fight for survival, there would be nothing to prevent them from being reduced to cinders.

The pink flames she harbored had another purpose, one she favored over the destructive heat the blue portion had the potential of. Against the skin of humans, they were able to heal wounds. Her holy energy infused into her flames would heal injuries that littered the skin.

She was able to heal without her fire, too. It took a lot longer just utilizing her spiritual energy, as it was far less concentrated. With her fire, it was a strong burst that healed instantly, meanwhile merely using her energy was gradual and took more time.

"We'll take a break for now," Sesshoumaru commented, and Kagome looked back at him, turning her focus away from her hands. Tomorrow marked the first day for her at U.A. and he didn't want to overdo it and leave her exhausted of her energy.

She nodded, not able to argue with his decision. She was tired, and sleep was calling out to her in a siren song. Kagome cupped a hand over her mouth as she yawned, blinking sleepy tears from her eyes as she looked back at the demon observing her.

"I figured you would've left by now," she commented, eyeing him from the corner of her eye. He paused, blinking curiously.

"What do you mean?"

Kagome sighed and shook her head, a small smile flashing across her gentle features. "It's not like you to hang around for weeks at a time, you know. What's gotten into you?"

"Intuitive as always," he responded, and her smile widened. It only took one sentence for that smile to fade, and he felt a surge of pride at the startled expression that had twisted into place on her face. "I've taken a position as a teacher at U.A. to better observe your training," he said.

Kagome blinked owlishly, unable to keep the surprise hidden. "Y-You what?"

He smirked, seeming pleased with himself.

She felt bad for her to-be classmates. She didn't think she'd be bringing him along for the ride when she decided to attend U.A. She was used to Sesshoumaru, but the others… they would surely be suffering after one day with him.

"When were you gonna tell me, if I hadn't asked?" she asked.

"I was going to allow you to figure it out for yourself."

"... unbelievable." Her flat tone made his smirk widen a fraction. "Ah, I don't have time to worry, I'm gonna get a bath and head to bed. Night."

With a silent prayer for the health of her fellow classmates, she went back inside. She knew what to expect from Sesshoumaru, and she could only pray for the best for the ones who didn't.

The following morning she was greeted with another surprise. As soon as she moved to head out the front door, a familiar head of auburn hair greeted her. Shippo wore a matching uniform to her own, a grin on his face as he looked down at her.

Kagome paused, a kitten on each shoulder, as she looked up at her kit. "Huh? What are you doing dressed like that?" she asked, tilting her head to the side. Shippo's smile widened.

"Why do you think?" he asked, beaming down at her. "When I found out what school you were going to, I applied too! I didn't tell you so I could surprise you!" he exclaimed in excitement, and Kagome smiled. "Did it work?"

"Did it?" Kagome repeated before nodding, "of course it did!" she exclaimed, matching his happiness. "I thought you were attending an academy more fit for demons?" she questioned a second later, remembering the news that had been shared with her earlier. "Did you change your mind because of me?"

He nodded, and she gave him a disbelieving look, but before she could say anything, he beat her to it. "It won't be any fun if I know you're all the way across the world," he said, and she sighed, a small smile on her face. "I'd much rather be with you, anyway."

Kagome rolled her eyes and held her arm out for him to latch onto, and he did just that. "Whatever," she said. "We should get going so we're not late."

"Okay, Mother!"

"And no calling me that in public!" she scolded him, but he merely laughed in response. Kagome stifled the urge to sigh.

She could foresee some interesting conversations in the future, that much was for sure.

Auroua-chan: I really like the suggestions of Eira for the ice cat, and Enya for the fire cat.

To answer a few more questions about Kagome;

Her Quirk:
She technically has both fire and ice, making her very similar to Shoto, but due to her spiritual energy, she differs vastly. Her fire, being a form of Sacred Fire, is a mix of pink flames with blue only near the tips of her fingers. She's able to heal injuries with the pink portion of her flames (not just her own, either.) She could use it offensively, theoretically, if she were to allow the blue to overpower the pink, but she chooses not to. She prefers physical combat. She looks small and petite, but she's very strong, having been trained by many of her past allies.
She has ice, as well, but it's not fully formed. It mostly shows through in her barrier creation. Much like her flames, it is pink and it's much harder to destroy or melt due to her spiritual energy manifesting in it, as well.

If her Quirk was to be erased by EraserHead, she would still be able to use her spiritual energy to heal/make barriers. It would just be significantly weaker than if she were able to use her Quirk. Similarly, if someone was to copy her Quirk, they would only obtain her Quirk, and not her spiritual abilities attached. (So, normal fire/ice.) Her spiritual abilities are inherently unique to her and won't be affected.

Dabi and Kagome will have a unique bond. I don't want to go into too much detail or give anything away, but I'll say that he does care about her and he may or may not have kept tabs on her throughout her life after she was given away. When it gets to the point where they run into each other, Kagome will be able to recognize him, too.

For this story, Kagome completed her priestess training and she had an extensive skill set.

Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed! Hopefully I managed to get all the errors out before posting, but if not sorry.
