Chapter 12: PTSD
Molly was crying her bed. She really wanted to just go down in the kitchen, grab a knife and end her miserable life. There was only one thing she wished for, but it didn't happened.
''What's the matter, McGee? Isn't joy stronger than misery?''
Molly turned around in horror and saw Jinx behind her. She had the most evil smile Molly has ever seen... And this time, she was holding a red scythe.
''No... No, why, WHYYYYY?! Not now, please'' Molly cried.
''Oh I LOVE when you are so broken! That sweet misery... I crave for it!''
The entire world around Molly collapsed... And a cage formed around her. It was happening again, she has the same nightmare. Molly tried to escape and her body started to turn into flames of joy... But still wasn't enough to break the cage.
''Jinx, please! Stop with this! Don't do this to me! Please, I beg you, PLEASE!'' Molly cried, as she was trying to break free.
''HAHAHAHAHAHA! Boys... You know what to do...''
Sobgoblins started to appear... This time, the whole dark void filled with them. They all started to drain the joy out of Molly... It was more painful than ever. No matter how hard she was trying to break free, nothing worked and they just continued to drain her...
''NOOOO! N-No...''
Molly started to slowly close her eyes, as she was feeling how she is on the verge to faint. It was terrifying when she realized how close to death is. They all were draining all the energy Molly had in her... And she died.
...
Molly woke up. Normally she would scream or cry... But this time, she didn't say a word. She had tears in her eyes, realizing something... Not only she couldn't turn herself into a ghost, but she still had those nightmares.
''ARE YOU F*CKING KIDDING ME?!''
Molly jumped out of her bed and started to kick her bed it all the power she had... In result, she kicked her toe and it hurted like hell.
''OUCH! OH SWEET BABY CORN, WHY?!'' Molly yelled, as she grabbed her leg in pain.
At this point, Molly was sure the world really hates her. Absolutely nothing good has happened to her... Only when she was cuddling and kissing Libby, but she got grounded for it. While she continued to yell from anger, Scratch appeared in front of her. The moment he saw the exploded lightbulb and the mess in Molly's room, he was shocked.
''Moll... What the hell happened here?''
''N-Nothing! It's just that the whole universe hates me! Please, just leave me alone...'' Molly said, both sad and angry.
Scratch was feeling kinda bad for his best friend. The last few days really were tough for her, so he understood why she was so mad. Especially after she kicked him out... But in the Ghost World, he had great night with Geoff and Clara... Especially with Clara.
''Ugh, the universe doesn't hate you, kid! It's just seems like that, when things aren't going your way'' Scrach explained.
When he said this, Molly's stomach started to growl again. She didn't eat anything yesterday, not a sinlge bite of food.
''Especially when you are hangry...''
''I'm not HANGRY!'' Molly said, annoyed.
''Yeah, yeah, I know you would say that. Wanna cook you breakfast? I still have some time until-
Before Scratch could finish, the ghost phone appeared right in front of him...
''SCRAAAAAAAATCH! GET HERE, RIGHT NOW!''
''Ugh, you'll wait 30 minutes!''
''WHAT?!''
Scratch grabbed and threw the phone away. It was so annoying that he didn't even have the option to choose his shift, Lecter was just calling him whenever he wanted to.
''I hate this guy... Anyway, as I said I can cook for you today''
''Well... Fine, I guess I need to eat something... But this doesn't mean I'm hangry!'' Molly said.
''Scrambled eggs?''
''Only if there is cheese on it'' Molly said... And noticed her broken phone.
Just great! Because of childish rage, she broke her phone yesterday. And by the look of it, she won't get a new one soon, especially after what happened yesterday.
...
''LET ME OUT!''
The things with the skinwalker were also getting bad. The last few days, she was trying everything she could to escape. Because the cage was made out of silver, it was keeping her inside, but she still managed to do some damage to it.
''That does it! It's time to end this, once and for all!'' Ruben said, as he grabbed a little silver axe he had.
''WHAT? Dad, no! Scratch said that if we kill her-
''Well, we can't keep her forever here! It's her own problem, not ours!'' Ruben said, as he pushed his son out of his way.
Ruben unlocked the cage... The moment she realized what was happening, the skinwalker was trying to break free from the silver chain that was on her leg.
''DON'T TOUCH ME, YOU SICK-
Ruben grabbed the skinwalker's hair... And tried to kill her, but she kicked him and he only managed to hit her arm.
''AAHHH! NO!''
The skinwalker started to... Cry. Ollie read that most skinwalkers forget what's like to be human, or to have emotions other than hunger... But this one was crying for her life. While crying, she also started to change. She wasn't a twisted version of Molly anymore, she started to transform to her normal one. Her hair turned grey and she became... A pale girl in white dress. Ruben grabbed her arm and raised his axe, ready to kill her.
''NO, NO, NO! I DON'T WANNA DIE, I DON'T WANNA DIE, PLEASE...''
The way she was crying, was breaking Ollie's heart. The poor girl never wanted to turn into a monster, she probably just didn't have luck. Before Ruben could do anything, Ollie grabbed the axe from his arm.
''Ollie! What are you doing, give it back!''
''NO! Please, dad, just... give us 3 more days! For 3 days, I'll figure something out! I'll tell Scratch to find a way to cure her, BUT PLEASE don't kill her!'' Ollie said, as he started to tear up.
Ruben was feeling kinda bad. The fact his son is so emotional over a monster was making him feel sick. He was feeling sorry for the poor little girl, but this wasn't his responsibility.
''She is a lost cause! She was a monster from years, we can't cure her!'' Ruben said.
''THAT'S NOT TRUE! Look at her, she is crying! She still has emotions... We can still save her, please just give me 3 days!''
It looked so heartbreaking. The way the poor girl was crying, while Ruben was questioning if that's a good idea... He didn't know if this was the right thing, but he decided to wait little longer.
''Alright... 3 days! If Scratch doesn't figure out something in 3 days, she is a goner!'' Ruben said, as he grabbed his son's arm, walked away from the cage and locked it.
The skinwalker started to transform back to Molly's form. The hair was still grey, but started to slowly change to black-red. Ollie was watching her... Terrified that if they don't find a way to cure her, she will die...
...
It was now afternoon. After the bad day she had, Molly was walking in the park. This whole week... Was a disaster. It was so bad, Molly didn't have energy for anything.
She was also thinking about how to save Libby's bookshop... Of course, if Libby actually wanted to see her. After their incident, Molly didn't even know if Libby would want to look at her.
How did all of this started? What caused Molly's downfall? Oh boy... It didn't started from the last week, or the last month... It started a year ago. When Scratch became human and left, this completely broke Molly's heart. She was so sad, she just gave up on her enhappifying mission. To make the town a better place, to make THE WORLD a better place... It didn't matter to her. The worst part was Brighton became a miserable place again. Because Molly was the only one who was actually trying to make people happy, when she became depressed there was no one to actually try to keep the town a positive place.
Or did her downfall started... In the battle against Jinx? She didn't tell anyone, but she was terrified from what just happened. There were so many questions... What if Jinx decided to make her sobgoblins to completely drain Molly? What if they never managed to catch her? What if Molly never managed to escape from that cage? So many questions, with answeres Molly didn't want to imagine.
It was feeling like a little seed of saddness was planted in Molly's heart, but just now started to grow. She never imagined Jinx could scare her that much... Even the shadow demon wasn't that scary to Molly. What Jinx did... Was traumatizing and unbelievable.
''We are not leaving this table, UNTIL YOU DON'T DEVOURED IT ALL!''
Molly curled up on one of the benches and started to tear up. Every single time when she remembered that day, she was on the verge of a breakdown. She was just a kid... A kid who could've lost everything.
She was so sad and upset, Molly got up and started to walk back home. She will just go back home, cry herself to sleep and end up in the same nightmare... That was Molly's plan. She will aways go to sleep and have the same nightmare over, and over, and over again... Till the rest of her life.
The ritual failed, she lost her best friend, she'll have to have this nightmare forever... Molly's life was turning into complete agony and she had no idea how to fix it.
While she was walking, the street lamps around the park started to flick, but she didn't payed any attention to them. The worst part was, she has to fake a smile and... Pretend that everything is normal. If she isn't happy, she risks the happiness of the entire town, because NO ONE except her actually tries to bring joy in Brighton.
''Molly?''
The moment Molly heared that voice, she turned around and saw Libby with a worried look on her face.
''Wha, Libby? What are doing here- I mean... You still want to talk with me after what happened?'' Molly asked, sad and embarrassed.
''Uhhhh, yes? Wait, do you honestly think I would want to stop talking to you, over this?'' Libby asked, shocked from what Molly said.
''Uhhhh... I just... I don't know. I thought you hate me...''
''What? Molly, that's ridiculous, I would never be mad for that! However... You gotta admit, what happened with us was pretty embarrassing...'' Libby said.
''Yeah... It was...''
Libby noticed the light's flickering. That's actually how she saw Molly, because she was following them. The strangest part was how they stopped exatcly when Molly started to talk with her.
''Molly... Are you okay?''
''Yes! Well... Not actually. What happened wasn't just embarrassing, it was BEYOND embarrassing. Mom grounded me and took my wallet and shopping privileges away'' Molly explained.
Libby noticed something else... Molly's eyes. She looked like she is on the verge to burst into tears and her hands were shacking. She knew Molly would deny there is a problem, but Libby surely wasn't gonna leave her.
''Oh... That's bad. You know what, why don't we spend the rest of the day together? We can watch the birds or-
Before Libby could finish, Molly hugged her. Out of nowhere, Molly just jumped and wrapped her arms around Libby. She was now sure something wasn't right with Molly.
''Yes... I would love that...''
Without saying anything, Libby hugged her back. It was really worrying how much Molly's hands were shacking... Like she saw something horrific.
''Wanna... Come to my place?'' Molly asked.
''Uhhhh... Yeah, sure!''
Even after the answer, Molly still didn't let her go. She didn't know why... Just being that close to Libby and hugging her was feeling so good. Oh and the kissess... The night when they were kissing was a night Molly was never gonna forget. She wasn't gonna admit this... But Libby was starting to get more lovely than Ollie...
