Chapter Nine

She caught up with the rest at last, and Shippo automatically placed himself at her side. He spotted the red cloak now draped over her shoulders, and he flashed her a grin.

"It reminds me a lot of Inuyasha's," he stated, and Kagome nodded happily in response. She'd spent more than her fair share of time wearing Inuyasha's Robe of the Firerat back during her jewel shard hunting days, so to have her variation made her immensely happy. While the memories weren't all happy, enough of them were, and those were the ones she chose to focus on. "It completes the look if you ask me!"

Kagome toyed with the hemming some, nodding softly. "I thought the same thing," she said after a second or two. Eira and Enya hopped up onto her shoulders, taking their usual perches now that she had finally returned.

"What took so long?"

Kagome turned upon hearing the question, and her gaze landed on Shoto. She was quiet for a moment before shaking her head with a mild laugh falling from her lips. "It was nothing," she said, "I was requested for a moment, is all," she added without really explaining anything. After all, no one but Shippo knew about the fact that she was close to Sesshoumaru, and trying to explain all that just felt like it'd be a bit too much for her at the moment, especially since he'd been brought on as a teacher so recently.

Looking him over, Kagome couldn't help but take note of the way his costume seemed to eliminate any side or trace of their father. While she couldn't find it in her to fault him for his choices, she was a bit saddened.

It'd taken herself some time to adjust to having any trace of him in her, more so for her to even desire to try and utilize any part of her Quirk that'd been inherited from that man. Knowing she had it only served to remind her of the link she had to that man, the one that could never be severed. But… At the same time, her Quirk was her own. There were things she could do that he'd never be capable of hoping to do, and ignoring that side- no matter how painful the thought of him was- was only a disservice to herself.

She knew it was different for him, however. Knowing that prevented her from trying to give those thoughts a voice. She was severed from that family, so trying to wedge herself in with advice he might not even want seemed inappropriate, to say the least. He was her brother, her twin, but only by blood. She was so disconnected from them, from him, that she barely knew him at all.

Kagome was taken by surprise when her hand was suddenly grasped, and she was pulled to the side. She landed against Shippo's chest as the kitsune wore a beaming smile on his face. She was surprised for only a moment when she realized he must've picked up on her dispirited mood. She let out a faint sigh as he rested his chin on the top of her head. He held onto her protectively, his smile both beaming and possessing a clear message to keep away from her.

Kagome opened her eyes after a moment, a wry smile on her face. She glanced at Shoto, not missing the glare he had fixed directly on Shippo. Her smile faded into a frown when she realized that Shippo had turned to glower at him in response. Kagome huffed and pushed herself out of his grip.

"Geeze... overprotective demons," she huffed, jabbing a finger into his chest to garner his full attention. Immediately, his glare swapped into an excited smile. She sighed and shook her head at his actions, turning to face Shoto. "Ignore him," she said after a moment. "He's just really clingy. He means well, though."

She didn't have to look back at Shippo to know he was already once again glaring at Shoto. As if warning him to keep his distance. She didn't understand why he was so bad with him…

"Now that we're all here, it's time for some combat training!"

Kagome turned with the rest to let her attention land on All Might, standing in front of everyone in the gathered crowd. Kagome stepped away from Shippo, much to his obvious chagrin, and made her way up towards the front. He followed automatically, stopping behind her.

"Sir, this is a battle center from the entrance exam. Will we be conducting urban battles again?"

Kagome turned to look at the figure beside her, recognizing his voice. Dressed in a suit of armor that concealed even his face, she was still able to tell it was Iida from his voice and aura alone.

"No, we're going to go two steps ahead!" All Might responded. "Most of the time, battles against villains take place outside, but if you take a look at total numbers, atrocious villains appear indoors at a much higher rate," he explained. "Backroom deals, imprisonment, house arrest…- In a society filled with heroes, truly intelligent villains hide in the shadows to cover their crimes! Because of that, for this class, you'll be split up as heroes and villains and fight two-on-two indoor battles."

"Without basic training?" Tsuyu asked. "Shouldn't we have a combat class before this?"

"This is a real battle to help you prepare for your combat class, and to help you understand the basics!" All Might responded.

Kagome shrugged. Honestly, they'd need all the preparation they could get for someone like Sesshoumaru. This would honestly help more than anything else she could think of. It was a relief that they'd yet to take his class, but it was on the schedule for tomorrow. Knowing him, their introduction to the course would be sparring matches.

"This time, there is no robot for you to beat up," All Might continued, "but a fellow team working against you."

"How will wins and losses be determined?" Momo asked.

"Can we just beat them up anyway?" Bakugo asked.

"How will we be split up?" Iida asked next, only for Uraraka to pose her own question next.

"Will the losers be punished with expulsion like with Aizawa-sensei?"

In response to the series of questions, All Might seemed a bit frustrated. He shook his head and revealed a booklet in his hands. "No worries, I'll answer all of your questions!"

He opened the book, and Kagome glanced at the cover with a scrutinizing gaze. Was he holding a… script?

"The situation is that the villains have hidden a nuclear weapon somewhere within their hideout. The heroes are trying to dispose of the threat. However, there is a time limit! In order to win, the heroes must either recover the weapon or capture the villains within the allotted time. At the same time, the villains must protect the weapon the whole time or catch the heroes." He tossed the booklet over his shoulder once he was done, this time holding up a box for them all to see. Kagome arched a brow in response. "As to choosing teams and opponents, you all will draw lots!"

"They're being decided with so little rhyme or reason?" Iida asked. "It's quite random."

"Pros sometimes have to create makeshift teams with heroes from other agencies," Midoriya said. "Maybe that's why we're doing it this way?"

"I see," Iida responded thoughtfully. "The discernment to look forward." He shook his head and bowed. "I apologize for my rudeness."

All Might shook his head and turned. "No matter, let's move on!"

The pairs were chosen, with Kagome finding herself paired up with Midoriya. Though a bit pouty, Shippo relented and endured the choice with nothing more than a surrendering sigh. Kagome smiled at him and gave his arm a pat, reassuring him silently that it was just fine. Not long after, she turned towards her teammate with a smile fixed on her face as she made her way over to him once Shippo went to join Uraraka.

"What luck!" she exclaimed cheerfully, clasping her hands together behind her back. She was extremely curious about him and his strange Quirk, so it really was a lucky draw. "Let's give it our best, hm, partner?"

She could sense his nerves the moment she stepped too close, but she paid it no mind. After a few seconds of silence from him, he finally managed a response.

"R-Right!" he said as they both returned their attention back to All Might, who had the second round of lots prepared.

"All right!" All Might exclaimed as he reached into two labeled boxes. One labeled Villains and another labeled Heroes. "Now to see which teams our first match will be between!" He pulled a ball out from each one, and the first match was decided.

Team A; her and Midoriya against Team D; Bakugo and Iida.

"Team A will be on the Hero side, while Team D will play as the villains!" All Might stated. "Everyone else, go ahead and make your way to the monitor room."

As they did as he said, Kagome and the others stayed behind to follow All Might to the building that'd be used as their training grounds. Once there, he waved Iida and Bakugo to go in first.

"Villain team will have five minutes to go in and get set up," All Might said. "Once those five minutes are up, the hero team will then break-in and the battle will officially start." He stood by the door as the pair made their way in. "Young Iida, Young Bakugo, learn to think from the perspective of a villain. This is pretty close to a real battle," he said. "Go all out. Don't be afraid to get hurt. I'll be there to break the fight up if it goes too far."

Kagome was quiet as she stood off to the side, glancing at her teammate from the corner of her eye. She could tell that his nerves hadn't swayed any, but had only grown stronger and stronger so quickly. She swapped her focus to the map of the building that'd been given to them by the blond-haired hero- not that she'd have any need for it. With that thought, she lowered it with a sigh.

"You need to relax some," she commented after a few seconds of feeling his nervous aura. She folded her arms and glanced at him. "Bright side, there doesn't seem to be any major punishment like Aizawa-sensei threatened."

"I-I'm not sure if I can," Midoriya responded after a few more seconds, and Kagome let out a faint hum, tilting her head to the side curiously. "Not when we're up against Kacchan... Not to mention Iida, too," he added. "I feel like I have to be on guard even more now."

Kagome frowned. "Bakugo is really hostile towards you," she said. "Well, he comes off that way to everyone, but it seems more explosive when it comes to you," she mused. At his mention, Enya perked up and mewed, and Kagome hid a mild laugh. "Yes, I know you like him, but that's beside the point," she mused to the fire kitten.

Midoriya looked at her, and he sighed the next second. "He's amazing," he said.

"He's a piece of work, that's what he is," Kagome responded dryly. Midoriya nodded in agreement.

"Yeah, but his goal, his confidence, his physical strength, and his Quirk are way more amazing than mine," Midoriya said. "That's why, right now… I don't want to lose to him," he continued.

"Huh?" Kagome leaned back some when his aura shifted some. The nerves were still there, but a hint of determination was present. A moment later, she smiled and stepped away from the railing she leaned against.

"Well, if you ask me, you should believe in yourself a little bit more," she commented, and Midoriya jumped at hearing her. He turned towards her, waving his hands.

"Sorry! I shouldn't have said all that! This isn't your problem, I know..!"

"Hm?" Kagome arched a brow. "But isn't it?" she asked. "We're a team, aren't we? Your battles are my battles, too," she said. "So, let's just do our best together, okay?" she flashed him a bright smile. "You can do it! I know you can!"

Midoriya couldn't shake the smile her words brought to him. Her words and her own smile seemed so infectious. "Right," he said, nodding in agreement.

The room where the rest of the class had amassed in was alight with the glow of several security monitors meant to enable the observation of the ongoing matches. There was little warning when the door opened, and a silver-haired figure entered the room. All Might turned with a smile. The two cats that'd been collected by All Might before he left Kagome and Izuku there sat up instantly and bounded over to the new figure, mewing for attention.

"Sesshoumaru! Welcome! I was wondering when you might show up."

He was quiet in response as eyes went to him. After a moment, he nodded with a smirk on his face. "I see it's yet to begin," he stated. He took note of who was absent, not knowing who the other three might've been, but fully aware that Kagome was not among her classmates.

"It'll start in another minute," All Might responded, and Sesshoumaru nodded as he let the door close behind him. He ignored the curious stares from the rest without giving them so much of a single thought. All Might cleared his throat and motioned to the silent figure. "Y-You've yet to take his class, but this is Sesshoumaru," he stated. "He's to be your physical combat teacher, and his classes begin tomorrow."

"Hn," his response was quiet and disinterested in them as he focused on the monitors. "I look forward to seeing what you're capable of in these battles," he eventually stated.

With those words, All Might's timer went off, and he nodded. He turned the microphone on and used it to speak to the four at the training location. "The five minutes of set-up time is over," he stated. "Now, let's start the indoor team combat training between teams A and D!"

As the training officially started, the rest of the room gathered to observe the first teams. As they did, All Might glanced at the rest of them.

"The rest of you, watch and observe," he said. "Think of strategies for when your turn comes."

Kagome observed the building, getting a feel of it with her senses as she mapped out the path of both Bakugo and Iida's auras. They entered the building through a window, landing quietly and observing their paths to take. Before Midoriya could move, she took him by his wrist and tugged him back.

"I'll lead," she offered. "With the time limit, it's better to be precise in our movements."

He was surprised, but he didn't argue once she explained. He didn't know much about her, truthfully, so he figured it must've had something to do with her Quirk. Could she tell where they were right now? When he relented with a nod of his head, Kagome smiled.

"Great," she said, and she took to leading their way.

"We should still be careful," he said as they started moving. "There's a lot of blindspots."

"I'm not too worried about that," she admitted as she led their way. "I can sense their auras, so it'll be hard for them to sneak up on me."

"Is that your Quirk?" he asked, and Kagome paused for a split second before shaking her head, a mild laugh falling from her lips.

"Not quite," she admitted. "It's just a helpful thing I happen to be able to do," she said then. As she said those words, she paused in her walking. When he realized she'd done so, he stopped as well a few feet ahead of her this time. She frowned and reached for him again, gripping his wrist and giving it a firm tug to yank him back a few paces. As she did, she held out her other hand.

She could feel it from down the hall- Bakugo's aura coming even closer as she remained in one spot. Before long, he came from around the corner, already prepared to attack. She narrowed her eyes as the temperature around them shifted drastically. A pink barrier constructed of ice formed, separating them from Bakugo's explosive attack. It struck the ice, blasting pieces of it and scattering the shards of ice all over the floor. As the steam settled, she stepped forward and spun, delivering a kick to his chest and knocking him back a couple of paces.

"Tch…!" Bakugo scoffed as Kagome set a hand on her hip, glaring at the blonde-haired boy across from her. "Fine, you wanna play, brat?!" Before she could so much as take a single step, he lunged towards her. Kagome moved to put up another barrier of ice, only for it to get blasted apart just like her first. As suddenly as he moved, another explosive blast hit. Kagome threw both arms up to shield her face as he attacked twice in a row, only to let out a gasp when she got grabbed around her hips.

Midoriya moved to push her out of the way, both of them landing on the ground not far from where smoke lifted and rubble rained over the floor.

Kagome sat up, rubbing the side of her head. "Thanks," she said once she realized he'd stepped in to push her from the brunt of the attack. She could spot the damage done to his uniform- half of his mask ripped off.

"Come on, Deku," Bakugo said. "Don't try to dodge or hide behind your teammate."

"I expected you to come for me first," Midoriya responded.

Bakugo smirked and abruptly ran towards him. "I won't cause so much damage that the fight gets stopped, but I'll get damn close!"

He went to throw a punch, only to get caught by Midoriya. He grabbed him by his arm and hoisted him over his shoulder to slam him to the ground. As he slowly moved to get back up, anger radiating from him in waves, Midoriya stepped back a pace or two.

"Kacchan, you usually start a fight with a right swing," he said. "How much do you think I've been watching you?" Bakugo glanced over his shoulder, glare burning at his skin. "I've written an analysis for every hero I thought was amazing in my notebook," Midoriya said in between panting breaths. "In the very notebook you blew up and threw away."

His anger grew, and she could also hone in on the fear the green-haired boy felt as he stood back up, hands tightened into fists.

"My 'Deku' isn't always gonna mean 'useless'!" Midoriya exclaimed. "Kacchan, my 'Deku' means 'you can do it'!"

Bakugo got back on his feet, turning to glare directly at the green-haired boy. "Deku… Even though you're scared…" His hands tensed up, a series of small explosions dancing along his palms in intense anger. "That's what I hate about you!"

The air was tense, she could tell that before long…-

"Kagome, go!" Midoriya called out to her, and she perked up some. She instantly got what he was telling her to do, even as Bakugo lunged towards him with a violent explosion adding to his speed. Though a bit hesitant, she knew that the match would be interrupted if it got too violent, and they had to capture the weapon before the time limit ran out. She nodded and turned on her heel, following her senses to locate Iida, who was most definitely stationed with the weapon still while Bakugo ran about.

"Right!" she exclaimed.

Splitting up would be better. She could handle the weapon without the threat of Bakugo, and she had faith that Midoriya would stand to handle himself against the ire of Bakugo.

Auroua-chan: It's been so long since I updated this! Had a bit of writer's block on it. Hopefully the next chapters will get posted with a more reasonable wait time. So sorry for the delay!

Sesshoumaru's stepped in to observe their first actual training, and, furthermore, his class will begin very soon! He's going to play favorites with Kagome.

You know, Kagome's fire is primarily pink, yes? But at her fingertips, it's an electric blue shade. One has to wonder what might happen to someone (or her…) if it happens to overwhelm her…

Also, remember when I mentioned that one of the main characters is a descendant of Miroku and Sango's bloodline? Another little hint- is it one of her classmates~

I'm really excited for future chapters. Especially when it gets to the point where other characters like Shinso, Endeavor, Monoma, and others come into play. It's gonna be a lot of fun. (And maybe some… mild… hostility from Sesshomaru and the rest towards Endeavor.)

Their training will continue in the next chapter~!

Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading, and I hope you enjoyed! Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.

Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!

Bye for now~
