Chapter Ten
The more space she put between her and the two did nothing to ease the tension she could feel plaguing the air. She was worried, if only a little bit, about Midoriya, but she also knew that doing so wouldn't have any benefit to anything or anyone. While he focused on Bakugo, she had to be the one to handle Iida.
She could feel his aura- it was stationary. There wasn't a doubt in her mind that he'd set up with the weapon and that he was holding his ground in guarding it. She doubted that he'd agreed with Bakugo's actions of running off. No doubt they both had impressive quirks on their own, but fighting together would have made the most ideal strategy for them in the end.
Kagome came to a halt upon reaching the room she felt Iida's aura sourcing from, opting for a quieter pace as she made her way inside. She peered around a wall blocking her from view, and her gaze landed on Iida standing with his back to her.
Bingo!
Not far from him was the weapon in question. However, getting to it without being spotted didn't seem likely, not when he was standing between her and it. She knew that she could stand on her own against him in a fight if it came down to physical combat- she had no doubts there, but…
She glanced down at her hands.
While her fire couldn't normally harm a person, that didn't mean she couldn't lead him to think otherwise.
She'd taken down much larger opponents before, too, and so, she stood back at her full height and rushed towards Iida with a sharp cry falling from her lips. He jumped in response, turning just in time to get knocked back by a harsh kick to the side. In the same breath, pink flames danced in the air around her palm, and he moved back to avoid them- fearing the chance of damage or injury from them.

"Woah, she's already found Iida!"
The excited exclamation caused Sesshoumaru to turn his focus towards the gathered students- if only for a second.
"Yes," All Might responded. "She seems to have an impeccable sense of direction."
Shippo perked up at the comment, nodding enthusiastically from his spot beside Uraraka. "She's got way more than that! Kagome-chan's great at so many things!"
Sesshoumaru ignored Shippo's zealous comment- far too used to it to be taken aback like others seemed to be. Their surprise wasn't unexpected, after all. They weren't aware of the bond the pair had.
"You really like her, don't you?" Uraraka questioned, smiling up at Shippo. By reflex, he nodded cheerfully.
"Of course I do," he responded before stating, "she's mine."
Sesshoumaru had to compose himself to keep the amused smirk from falling into place when the room filled with stunned noises. He knew perfectly well that Shippo wouldn't explain what his claim meant, and Sesshoumaru sure as hell wasn't about to shine any light of clarity on it, either.
However…-
He glanced from the corner of his eye, spotting one figure in particular focused keenly on Shippo. He doubted that the kit was unaware as he smiled with a hint of smugness in his scent. He was perfectly aware of the attention his words had brought.
The one had a scent akin to Kagome's own, and he could tell instantly the moment he focused on it that it was the brother she'd mentioned to him prior. He wasn't pleased by Shippo's comment. That much was obvious to him.
Still, he observed him. He was keen to note how his costume was designed to block out every trace of that sham hero. The resentment the child held for his father was clear without even having to ask his opinion. Sesshoumaru knew he couldn't fault him in the slightest for his choice. He'd heard more than enough, observed more than enough on his own time with his own eyes.
A foul example of a hero.
The television was nothing more than background noise for them at that moment. Kagome was talking idly about something as she filled out documents, but a specific name made her freeze up instantly as if hands had snaked their way around her neck. He wasn't oblivious to the way she stiffened in her seat. He glanced towards the television, not interested but curious as to what had caused her to react in such a way.
"The flame-hero Endeavor has once again-!"
Within a blink of an eye, the television had turned off. He glanced back at her, watching quietly as she set the remote down. The room was silent, but she was still tense.
The name was familiar- she'd mentioned it only once or twice, and he knew now it was the hero alias of the man who'd sired her. He'd caught sight of his gruff appearance for a split second before she'd turned the television off. He failed to see any likeness of him in her, aside from the blue of her eyes.
Sesshoumaru shifted his gaze back to the girl, noting the way she sighed upon feeling the pressure of his focus.
"Sorry," she muttered a second later, smiling softly at the papers. "I just can't stand hearing or seeing things about him." She tightened her grip on the pen, hand trembling and he could place a faint trace of fear in her scent. It was sour, unpleasant.
He didn't like it on her.
She sighed and set her pen down, fiddling with the thing of yarn her mother had left on the table that day. "Y'know, people call him a hero without any hesitation. It's frustrating to hear someone like him be so revered as a hero… He treated all of us so badly. I haven't seen him in so long, but I'm still a little bit scared of him, deep down," she admitted.
He stayed silent, letting her freely speak what she had on her mind. The information he possessed on her biological family was limited, after all.
"My oldest brother, Toya, would always comfort me back then," she went on to say. "I'd hide in his room and he'd hold me until I stopped crying. When I was given away by Enji, he was the only one to really visit me." She paused and bowed her head a bit more, letting her hand stray to her lap silently. "Eventually he stopped. I guess he must've come to the same conclusion as Enji. That I…-" she trailed off in a whisper. "At least, that's what I guess happened," she stated. "What else could've caused it?"
Sesshoumaru scoffed when she fell silent. She looked at him, unable to help the small smile that painted her lips in response.
"He's unappealing."
Kagome struggled to stifle the giggle she had in response to his statement. "Personality-wise?" she asked.
Sesshoumaru arched a brow before shrugging with a lack of interest. "Hn. That's just off-putting."
Kagome actually giggled at that one.
Sesshoumaru shifted his focus from the brother of his pupil, instead letting his attention sway to the figure in question on the monitors. Things had progressed, and he observed with a sense of pride at spotting the current standing of things.
All Might was going to have to call the match off in a matter of seconds due to the violent nature of the battle that'd grown between the blonde and green-haired boys. But, at the same time, his attention focused on Kagome on the screen, watching with a smirk on his face when she slammed her armor-clad opponent to the ground- much like she could easily do to him.
As the match concluded at last, she'd reclaimed the weapon, pulling victory for her team.
The following day, they were in a very familiar setting- only this time with a different instructor.
They were all lined up, and before them was Sesshoumaru as he closely observed each one of them. When he motioned to her, Kagome met his smirk with a glare.
So, it begins…
"In this class, you are to refrain from using your Quirks," he stated, voice monotone. "After all, the point of this is to strengthen your physical combat capabilities. Don't rely on your Quirks for an upper hand. Your marks here are based purely on physical capability."
"Sir," Iida spoke up, raising a hand to call attention to him. Sesshoumaru listened on a whim, nodding in his direction. Iida took that as an encouragement to speak to the icy, stoic figure glaring at them all. "Does this mean we'll be doing a similar activity as yesterday?" he asked.
"Somewhat," he responded. "Kagome, you're taking your time in coming over to me."
Kagome glared at him. "Fine, fine," she muttered and fixed her hair up into a ponytail before finally approaching the powerful demon. She felt the eyes of the rest on her.
"Your first lesson will be in subduing your enemy," he remarked. "I'll split you into pairs based on physical aptitude," he continued. "Your goal will be to subdue the other. The first to achieve that will be the victor of the lesson."
"But why have you called Higurashi to the front?" Iida asked a second later, and Sesshoumaru glanced toward the girl in question, perfect brow arched.
"A demonstration," he stated flatly. "By far, Kagome is the only one on par with me."
With those monotone words, he turned and faced the girl alongside him. She glared at him mildly.
"That was rude, and you know it," she stated flatly.
"And that affects me how?" came his response. "Come along already," he demanded.
She knew what he was demanding of her, and she resigned with a soft sigh. She fell into the stance she'd imprinted to memory. She could feel Sesshoumaru's gaze analyzing her posture and stance, searching for any misstep or mistake in it. When he found none, he moved to stand opposite of her.
"Observe closely," Sesshoumaru stated. "There's plenty of ways to take down an opponent, so you don't have to perfectly mimic her, just as long as you succeed."
Without warning, he rushed her, much to the surprise of several others who'd been expecting her to go for him. They were equally stunned when she blocked his strike seamlessly, snagging his wrist and pinning him to the ground under her weight easily in the blink of an eye. It was quick, easy to miss if one wasn't paying close attention. When she stepped back, she helped him up.
He moved again, and she swung her weight back, using her palms to flip away from him. As she did, she tangled her legs around his neck and took him down easily a second time. She stood back up, flicking her ponytail back over her shoulder.
"Your size doesn't matter in physical combat," Sesshoumaru continued as he fixed his hair back. "Your strength is the most important factor," he stated. "I've put a little consideration into choosing the match-ups." He held up a clipboard, where the pairs had been decided on already. "You'll go one at a time," he stated.
Auroua-chan: I meant to get this posted much sooner, but real life got busy really quick!
Any guesses as to who Kagome will be fighting in the sparring matches?
So, Kagome doesn't know the fate of Toya (or much of how he claimed the name Dabi.) She just assumes that he grew to be like their father- seeing her as a disgrace to the Todoroki name. Honestly, when she finds out the truth, it'll be pretty angsty. (Also some very angry Mama Higurashi at Endeavor when that happens…)
About the potential pairing really quick;
A few over on Ao3 have brought up the possibility of Shigaraki (and it's definitely an option I'm open to exploring, even if it's only infatuation/obsession on his end.) Just stating that the pairing has yet to be decided and suggestions/ideas are still more than welcome!
Anyway, that it for now! Thank you all for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed! Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.
Please remember to Reivew&Favorite&Follow, thank you!
Bye for now~
