Chapter Nineteen
While the rest left, Midoriya found himself standing across from Todoroki. It was silent as they both stood there in the hall, and Midoriya couldn't help but feel nervous the longer the split-haired boy stood watching him.
"I-If we don't hurry, the cafeteria will probably be really crowded…-" Midoriya finally said something, breaking the tense silence that'd been built up. His attempt fell flat when all he got in response was the same cold stare from Todoroki. "Uh…"
The type of intimidation that he gave off was the complete opposite of Bakugo's own. This one was cold like ice.
"I was overpowered." It took a few more drawn-out seconds of silence before the other boy finally spoke. When he did, Midoriya looked directly at him. "So much so that I broke my pledge."
When he said that, Midoriya let his gaze shift to Todoroki's left hand. He had it shoved into his pocket. He hadn't used it, not even if it meant he'd have an advantage. It was quiet as he tugged his hand free from where it was, lifting it to glance down at his palm.
"Iida, Kaminari, Tokoyami, Uraraka…" He trailed off and paused. He thought back to the way his sister had reacted. He knew Kagome had felt it, too. "None of them felt it. At that last second, I was the one who lost my composure and reacted. I, who had experienced All Might's full power up close."
"What… does that mean?" Midoriya asked.
"It means I felt something similar from you," Todoroki responded. Not just him, either. He wasn't focused on the green-haired boy across from him, and he didn't see the way Midoriya's expression had twisted to nervousness. "Midoriya, are you…" he trailed off as he lowered his hand. As he did, Midoriya quickly tried to school his expression. "All Might's secret love child or something?"
The question had been so far off of what he'd been expecting, and Midoriya's expression actually fell to match the abrupt surprise he felt. His thoughts went back to Todoroki's prior words back before the festival fully began, and it pieced together slowly. So, was that what he'd been thinking all along?
The stunned silence from Midoriya drug on for a few more seconds before Todoroki broke it.
"Well?" he asked, "are you?"
The question caused Midoriya to finally respond. "N-No, that's not it! I-I mean, even if it was, I wouldn't say it was, so I don't think you'd believe me," he continued as he began to ramble out a response. "But anyway, that's not how it is!" He paused for a moment as he got his thoughts back under control. "In the first place, let me ask you something," Midoriya said. "What do you think about me?"
"Since you said 'that's not how it is,' then that means there is a connection between the two of you that you can't talk about, right?" Todoroki asked. When Midoriya didn't respond, merely looking away nervously, Todoroki sighed. "Endeavor's my old man," he stated as he closed his eyes. "I'm sure you know that he's been stuck as the number two hero for forever," he said. A moment passed, and he looked back at Midoriya. "If you have something from the number one hero, then I have even more reason to beat you."
Midoriya was silent as Todoroki stated his intentions.
"As a hero, he won a name for himself using a crushing force," Todoroki continued. "Because of that, the living legend, All Might, is a great eyesore to him. Since he couldn't surpass All Might, he moved on to his next plan."
"What are you talking about, Todoroki…?" Midoriya asked. At the question, the duo-haired boy cut his eyes to him. "What are you trying to tell me?"
"You've heard of Quirk Marriages, right?" he asked, and the question took Midoriya by surprise. "That thing that became a problem for the second and third generations after superpowers appeared. Choosing a spouse based only on strengthening your own Quirk and passing it on to your children, forcing people into marriage. The old-fashioned way of thinking brought about by a lack of ethics," Todoroki explained. "He is a man with many accomplishments and money. He won over my mother's relatives and got a hold of my mother's Quirk. He is trying to fulfill his own desire by raising me to be a hero to surpass All Might."
The explanation had stunned him, and Midoriya wasn't sure what he could say in response to it.
"It's annoying," Todorki continued, gritting his teeth. "I won't become a tool to scum like that." It was silent as he spoke. "In all my memories, my mother is always crying. My old man is a scumbag who got rid of his own child because she didn't develop her Quirk early enough," Todoroki stated, heat entering his gaze.
"H-Huh?"
Todoroki looked back up to meet Midoriya's stunned gaze. "Kagome," he stated. "He got rid of her ten years ago. No one knew where, or what he'd done with her. As a result, my mother's condition deteriorated even more." He glanced back down at his left hand, lifting it to his face slowly until he'd covered the left half of his face with it, covering the scar around his eye. "Your left side is horrible. That's what my mother said as she poured boiling water on me."
Midoriya was both taken aback by the information of Kagome being his sister and horrified by the history of his scar. He thought back to the times he'd seen her utilize the fire and ice, and it made perfect sense. He'd just never thought too much of it due to everything else the girl was capable of.
"Basically, I picked a fight with you to show him what I can do without using my damn old man's Quirk," Todorki said. He lowered his hand, hate burning in his eyes. "No, I'll reject him completely by winning first place without using it."
Not long after he finished what he wished to say, Todoroki pushed himself off the wall and turned to leave. "I don't care if you can't tell me how you're connected to All Might. No matter what you are to All Might, I'll rise above you with just my right side. Sorry for wasting your time."
Midoriya was frozen in place for a few long seconds before his legs finally moved. He wasn't sure what to say at first. How could he? The way they'd grown up was so different, and that little bit he'd been keyed into was harsh. Still, he followed after Todoroki.
"I…" His voice pulled the other boy to a halt, and he was able to catch up. "I've always been supported by others. That was the case earlier, too," Midoriya admitted. "I'm here because of the people who've supported me." He paused and glanced down at his hand. "Saving people with a fearless smile, the greatest hero…" he trailed off. "All Might… I want to be like him, and in order to do that, I have to be strong enough to become number one," he admitted. "My motivation might seem trivial compared to yours, but I can't lose either," he said as Todoroki glanced back at him. "I have to live up to the hopes of those who supported me. That declaration of war you gave earlier…- I return that," he said. His determination shone in his eyes. "I'll beat you, too!"
Silence fell over them as Todoroki turned. Without saying anything in response, he walked away.
As both of them left, the figure standing against the wall, just around the corner, pushed himself off the wall at last. Bakugo shoved his hands back into his pockets, glaring silently at the ground. He'd overheard the entire thing.
He pushed it away and walked away, as well.
Kagome walked alongside Iida and Uraraka as they exited the stadium for the break. Before they'd made it too far, Kagome paused. Her action resulted in the pair looking at her, and Kagome offered an apologetic smile as she held a hand up.
"I was gonna go find Sesshoumaru and Shippo, actually," she stated after a brief pause. "I promised I'd check in with them as soon as I had time to," she admitted then with a small laugh.
"We can come with you if you want," Uraraka offered, only for Kagome to shake her head. Her smile was still present as she denied the offer altogether.
"I'm… not sure if that'd be a good idea or not," she admitted, much to their apparent confusion.
"Is there an issue?" Iida asked, concern seeping into his voice. Kagome shook her head a second time and flicked her hand in a wave.
"No, no, not at all!" she beamed up at him. "Additionally, my family is here with them and I just wanted to see them, is all."
Her response was good enough for them. The pair understood her wishes well enough, and they said a quick goodbye before continuing on their way. A few short seconds passed before she mirrored their actions, merely diverting from their path as she sought out those she was looking for.
As she made her way to the stairs in the distance, a looming figure across from her easily caught her attention. Without meaning nor wishing to, she came to a stiff halt. There was no one else around at the moment. Even if there were, everything around her went frigid as her heart began to hammer in her chest. It was so loud, it was practically ringing in her ears as the fiery man stalked towards her.
Despite the distance that'd been between them before, his expression was the exact same. He passed a certain point, and she could no longer stand to even look up at his face. Her gaze shifted automatically, diving down to her feet and the ground she stood frozen on. The air around her doubled in weight, resting heavily on her shoulders as her chest grew tight. Her hands shook, and she curled them into her pants to hide the way they blatantly trembled under his intense presence.
Nothing had changed at all, she realized then. No matter how many pep talks she got, how many she gave to her own reflection, no matter how strong she had grown, still… nothing had changed.
She wanted to move, to continue on her way, to pretend he wasn't even there, but she couldn't. The hall was far from tiny, but she still felt trapped. It was just like when she was in that house.
He paused in front of her. He was close enough that she could see him from her peripheral.
"What do you think you're doing? Dragging Shoto down with you, Kagome?" He asked. His tone was harsh and demanding- angry. "You're getting in the way of my masterpiece. If you know what's best, it'd be a good idea for you to keep your distance. You have no place beside him."
She didn't lift her gaze at his harsh words, her bangs shielding her face from view. The ground beneath her began to blur, but she bit into her lip to keep her tears at bay. Her fingers dug into her gym pants tighter.
"I won't allow a mistake to ruin my masterpiece."
His words were scathing, sinking deep under her skin and causing a sharp pain in her chest. Her anger was instant, and, for the first time in her life, she picked her head up and pointed narrowed eyes at his face. Her response was automatic.
"Funny, I don't recall asking some sham hero that still hasn't managed to surpass All Might," she scoffed. "I guess you're really taking your time on it, huh?"
She felt his anger spike from her words, but she ignored him. Though her legs still shook, she forced herself to move.
"You…-"
"Hey!"
Kagome almost jumped at the booming voice from behind her, and she turned only to look for the source. She hadn't realized it at first, but All Might had walked down the stairs beside them. He hadn't been there long, maybe no more than a few seconds.
"Endeavor, long time no see!" All Might continued. His presence pulled her father's attention away from her entirely as he glanced toward the other man. "How about we have some tea?"
"All Might…" The ire of the man covered in flames wasn't lost on her, and Kagome didn't miss the way All Might nodded for her to go. A bit of relief flowed through her, and she didn't hesitate to take his wordless suggestion. She made a beeline up the stairs as All Might returned his attention to Endeavor.
She paused, upon rounding the corner. He hadn't tried to come after her or follow her, and she was relieved. This was as far as she'd been able to make it.
She slid along the wall until she was seated on the ground. Her knees were pulled up to her chest as she sat there. Her shoulders trembled, her heart was pounding furiously in her chest, and her skin felt hot. His words echoed through her mind, harsh and scathing- just like the imprint of his glare behind her closed eyes. She hugged her knees to her chest and tried to keep her breathing steady as the tears she'd been holding back finally overwhelmed her.
She hated it.
She hated the way she so easily reverted to that little girl because of him. Her tears burned at her skin like fire itself as they fell, but she didn't allow her teeth to lift from where they'd closed around her lower lip. She bit into it to keep her sobs at bay. When she tasted blood, it still didn't change a single thing.
She hated the way his words dug so deep into her skin. It was like they took root inside her, digging down and refusing to let go.
She hated how he was probably right. She'd known from the start that she should've kept her distance, and, while he didn't seem to care, she certainly did. It was only going to cause trouble and problems for him if it continued on like it was. Endeavor would surely bring them about if she didn't do as he said. She didn't want to do as he said, but… if the alternative meant problems for Shoto, then she couldn't allow that to happen.
She pushed herself back up onto her feet and lifted an arm to rub the tears from her face.
Her plans of going to find Sesshoumaru and Shippo, along with the rest, were suddenly far from mind. The thought of the silver-haired demon seeing how she was now made her feel ten times worse. After all, how could she stand to face the person mentoring her when she was in such a weak state? He'd put up with so much already, and the thought of him seeing her so weak made her heart constrict painfully.
She couldn't be a burden to him, too.

"I haven't seen you since that talk we had with the press all those years ago. What was that? Nine? Ten years already?" All Might continued once the girl had darted away. "I saw you, and I figured I'd come say hi."
Despite the polite tone of the blonde-haired hero, the flame-covered man refused to match it as he turned. "I see," he responded. "You've done that," he stated. "Now leave me alone." He began to stalk down the stairs as he scoffed, "tea? What a joke! I'm going to the restroom. Go away!"
He hadn't even made it down half of the stairs before All Might somersaulted over him to land at the base of them ahead of him. He stuck the landing and turned to block the fiery man's path. "Now, don't be so cold!" Endeavor scowled as he was forced to come to a halt. "Your son, Young Shoto, did wonderfully without even using half of his power," All Might noted. "Is it because he was taught well?"
The question caused Endeavor to glare harsher at the other man. "What are you trying to say?"
"Why, I seriously wish to know how to raise the next generation," All Might responded. "As an instructor, it's important I know how to do as such."
"Do you really think I'd tell you?" Endeavor scoffed as he stalked down the rest of the stairs. As he passed All Might, he shoved him out of the way with his shoulder. "You're as clueless as usual, and it's starting to get on my nerves.'
All Might watched him leave, recoiling slightly. "Sorry…"
He'd already gone down over half of the next set of stairs when Endeavor paused and looked back up at him. "Just remember this-" he stated, "I will make that into a hero that will surpass you one day. That was the reason I created him."
His statement took All Might by surprise, and he looked down at Endeavor. "What are you…?" He wasn't able to complete his thought before Endeavor cut him off.
"He's in his rebellious stage right now, but he will surpass you," Endeavor stated. "I will make sure of it!"
All Might was silent in response as Endeavor walked away. Even if he was about to say something, the words had all died. A few seconds passed, and, before long, the flame-covered man was out of sight entirely. Not long after, he shook his head and swapped his focus back to Kagome.
All Might climbed the stairs once more, doing the same with the ones she'd gone up. She wasn't far out of sight, standing and leaning against the wall she stood by. A dark curtain of hair hid her face, and she turned to leave. Before she could, he went to join her.
"Ah, Young Kagome, wait just one moment!" he exclaimed. The girl jumped, and she looked at him like a deer in headlights. When she saw it was him, he didn't miss the way her expression calmed.
"Oh…" she gave a soft hum before nodding. "Did you need something?"
"I merely wished to congratulate you!" he said as he closed the distance. "I see Sesshoumaru has done great in teaching you!" He didn't miss the small smile that appeared on her face at the praise. He reached a hand out and let it rest atop her head in a gentle touch. She glanced up at him, confused, but he only smiled down at her. "Don't take things to heart," he said then, and Kagome knew what he was talking about. She glanced down, avoiding meeting his gaze then.
She moved out from underneath his large hand and nodded faintly. "... thank you," she stated softly as she turned and walked off.

She decided to send a message to her mother to pass on that she wouldn't be meeting up with them. She knew that'd be the easiest way to let them all know, and after doing so, she decided to take a walk to try and ease her worries and clear her mind. It'd been almost a full twenty minutes since her run-in with her father, and she'd spent it looking for a good spot to rest in.
"Huh…? Oh! Kagome!"
On cue, the ravenette turned upon hearing her name getting called. When she looked for the source, her eyes met a pair of green. She paused when she saw him coming over to her. "Oh, Izuku…" she tilted her head to the side in faint curiosity. "Did you need something?"
He stopped across from her, and, as he looked her over, he found it hard to miss her dispirited mood. She wasn't as vibrant as she had been earlier, and he couldn't help but be curious as to what had caused her abrupt shift in mood. Her eyes weren't as bright as they normally were, and her lips were downturned in an apparent frown.
"Is something wrong?" he asked abruptly. All of a sudden, his earlier conversation with Todoroki faded from mind.
"Don't be ridiculous," she remarked softly. "I'm just fine."
He frowned in response, clearly not believing her claim. Kagome sighed and shook her head.
"I was supposed to go meet with Sesshoumaru and Shippo, but I changed my mind," she continued softly. "I should probably keep my focus on what's at hand, right?"
"I suppose that's one way to go about things," he responded with a small smile flashing on his face. "You seem sad, though," he continued. "Did something happen?" Had she possibly gotten into an argument with one of them before all of this somehow? It didn't make any sense at all, but it was all he could grasp at currently.
"Oh…" she exhaled a soft sigh. It was quiet and still for a few seconds before she shook her head. "It's obvious, is it?" she asked. He was taken aback by her acknowledging it. He didn't miss the way her eyes seemed to shine in a different way as tears built up in them.
"Kagome…-?"
"Did you know my family isn't my birth family?" she asked softly. Her question was abrupt, but with it came the memory of his conversation with Todoroki not long ago.
"He got rid of her ten years ago. No one knew where, or what he'd done with her."
She hadn't been around, had she? Was she somehow aware of that conversation?
His silence made her sigh, and she folded her arms over her chest. A second later, she leaned against the wall behind her. He noticed that her hands had dug into the sleeves of her jacket.
"I'm nervous," she admitted, much to his surprise. She knew it wasn't the most accurate word to use, but it was better than admitting to the truth. That she was actually scared. "He's here today," she continued, keeping her voice to a soft whisper. "My father, I mean. He's… not a good person. He's a selfish monster and he hates me."
"I…" Izuku paused, a supportive smile appearing on his face. "I'm sure he doesn't hate you," he said, despite her own words. "I don't see how anyone could hate you, after all."
Kagome was silent for a few long seconds, only for it to be broken by a quiet, humorless laugh. No, she was positive that he did. If not, he harbored deeper disdain then. "He gave me away when I was five," she stated then. "Well, he gave me to my aunt, but only after she begged him to keep him from giving me to a different family entirely. He only agreed on the basis that I wasn't to have any contact with the rest of them."
Her green-haired classmate was silent after she paused. It was a few seconds before he found his voice. He recalled his conversation with Todoroki clearly, but still… He couldn't help but hear it from her, too. "Why would he do that?" he asked and Kagome sighed.
"Why else?" she mused. "I wasn't worth the time or effort," she stated. "I was a mistake in his eyes. He'd never accept a Quirkless child."
"H-Huh?" She didn't miss the surprise in his voice when she admitted it so freely. He seemed more stunned by that than the actual information itself, and he looked at her with widened eyes. "What do you mean?"
"When my Quirk didn't form like the others, he discarded me," Kagome stated. "I suppose it was better than the alternative, at least, but still…"
When she went silent, Midoriya struggled to think of something to say. He was stunned to hear her say it, especially when she was where she was now. His chest was heavy, his heart aching for her when he realized what her words truly meant.
It was out of her control, yet she was still rejected. She hadn't done anything other than exist, but it wasn't enough.
"My Quirk eventually formed," Kagome admitted then. "When I turned fifteen. Additionally, it formed at the same time as my spiritual abilities. They go hand-in-hand, in a way."
"Why did you decide to tell me this?" Midoriya asked. Kagome let out a faint hum, tilting her head to the side. "I know you needed to get it off your chest, but why did you decide to share it with me?"
Kagome shrugged after giving it some thought. "I'm not sure," she admitted. "I just felt that you might understand me better than anyone else." He was a strange person, the more and more she thought about him, but she knew, on some level, that he'd be the one to understand her.
He looked at her with a smile as he nodded. "I understand," he said.
Kagome held his stare for a few seconds longer before a figure further off behind him caught her eye. Even over the distance, split red and white hair was easy to make out. She knew he'd seen her, and that he was approaching her. Without wanting to, her father's face flashed through her mind, and she looked down. A second later, she turned entirely and moved to walk away.
"I should be on my way now," she stated to Midoriya as she began to walk off. He was startled, but before he could tell her goodbye, another voice beat him to speaking.
"Tch, damn straight you should be on your way."
A man with long, silver hair and furry, triangular ears atop his head approached Kagome, and the girl abruptly froze. Midoriya looked at him, recognizing golden eyes. The features were very similar to their demon teacher.
"Inuyasha?!" Kagome yelped, and the green-haired boy looked back at her. "W-What are you doing here? Didn't mom tell you that I wasn't coming to see you guys just yet?"
"What's your problem?" Inuyasha scoffed at her. Kagome glared at him, folding her arms across her chest.
"I… I just thought that maybe I shouldn't get distracted right now," Kagome stated, and he matched her glare with one of his own. Though he had been there first, Midoriya was quickly starting to feel uninvited by the pair.
Kagome knew there was no sense in arguing against him, despite her best efforts. He could place the scent of distress and sadness that clung to her, and he'd gone into guard dog mode at the slightest hint of discomfort from her. By now, her brother had nearly caught up to where she was, and Kagome didn't miss the way Inuyasha narrowed his eyes at him, his anger expressed freely on his face.
"Tch…" Inuyasha scoffed. A second later, he reached for her wrist and curled clawed fingers around it to tug her forward with a gentle, but forceful pull. "Come on."
Kagome heaved a sigh as she gave in to his demands without even trying to argue against them. After a minute, she yanked her wrist free and glared at him. "You don't have to lead me like I'm gonna get lost, you know," she huffed.
He matched her glare for a moment, only for it to fade when she placed her hand in his own. Her glare faded, and she smiled up at him. His faded instantly, and he scoffed as she matched his pace comfortably.
She didn't have to glance behind her to be aware of how her bother had stopped in his tracks. She could feel the confusion seeping off of him, paired with frustration and something else she couldn't quite place…
She felt worse, but she figured it'd be better. She couldn't stand the thought of causing problems for Shoto, too.
Auroua-chan: Inuyasha has shown up again, at last! He's as brash as ever, but they're best friends! What's more, Shoto noticed them together. The rest of her classmates will meet him very soon. He's not gonna leave her side, so that means escorts.
So, a lot happened in this chapter. Kagome's official run-in with Endeavor- which left her shaken and questioning whether she should be around Shoto anymore. Midoriya knows that Kagome and Shoto are twins(additionally, so does Bakugo, but they don't know that… No telling what might come of that in the upcoming chapters…) Kagome shared how she was once Quirkless with Midoriya and they got a bit closer due to it. Also, All Might might be aware of Kagome's connection to the number two hero.
Additionally, Kagome might've been Rei's favorite due to how different she was from Enji. Also- Kun-Loon is related to Enji!
Kagome may be a forgiving person, but there's a lot to come before she can forgive Enji. Even when he does actually try, Kagome won't be all warm to him. As the story progresses, she'll grow and the situation with Enji will be heavy. As of right now, when he's near, her emotions get hot.
Kouga will show up soon! He might be with Ayame, but he still favors Kagome! Hijinks will ensue when he shows up!
Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed! Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.
Please remember to Review&Favorite&Follow, thank you!
Bey for now~
