This is my first Glee fic. Some of the elements of this story are based on a true story. This has been a cathartic story to write. Uploads daily, story is already complete.
Rachel knew that the secret her father told her to keep wasn't a secret she was supposed to keep. Three years after she had told her other father she was finally seeing the repercussions of her telling. She was in the back of the car of a woman she didn't know. She had told Rachel her name, but Rachel wasn't listening, she'd just been told that her father was going away and her other father didn't want her. After her father left with the police officer she was sent to her room to pack whatever she wanted to take with her. Her other father had told her he'd send the rest of her belongings once she got settled. Now Rachel was on her way to her mother's house, the mother that until this moment she wasn't sure existed.
"Good evening, Ms. Corcoran."
"Good evening, please come in."
Rachel still had her head down and didn't look up to see where she was or what her mother looked like. The woman who had driven her to her mother's house lightly pushed Rachel into the house. The two women went to the dining room. Each sat opposite each other, while Rachel stood in the doorway.
"Hey, Rachel. My name is Shelby. I have some food set out on the table if you'd like to come sit down." Rachel finally looked up and took a quick breath in. She didn't think she'd be looking at almost a replica of herself. Shelby had green eyes instead of brown, but other than that Rachel was certain she would have been able to pick out her mom from a large crowd. Shelby patted the seat next to her.
"Hi." She slowly walked over and sat next to her mother.
After an hour of paper work and boring conversations the adults had finally finished and Rachel was finally told what was happening. Shelby started, "So, Rachel, sweetie, you know that I'm your birth mother. Right?" Rachel nodded, "Well, because of what's happened to you and your fathers, the state has asked me to take care of you for a while until we can decide what would be best for you."
Rachel tried to sound more confident than she felt, "So, this isn't permanent?" Her voice quivered ever so slightly as she finished her question.
Shelby put her hand on Rachel's shoulder, "We're just going to see how things go for a little while." Rachel was completely stiff so Shelby took her hand off the small girl. She smiled, "We want this to be partly your choice. You've had a lot of change lately."
Rachel nodded, she was terrified of staying with her mother but she was more terrified of being alone. Even if her mom looked a little stern and intimidating, it'd be better than the alternative.
"Well, now that that's all worked out, I'm going to head out. It was a pleasure meeting you, Shelby. I'll see you soon, Rachel."
Rachel's head shot up, "Why will you see me soon?"
The woman knelt next to Rachel, "Remember, you're going to have to talk to some people at the court. I'll be there with you every step of the way."
"Oh. Ok." Rachel was scared to go to court. Especially if she had to tell the secret again.
