-So this fic has been posted on AO3 for quite some time and I figured I try posting it here so readers who read exclusively here can have a try. That said, I avoided posting here cause I've heard stories of react fics getting axed off this site. So if you suddenly find this fic gone, you know why. Also, don't mind the AN at the end of this fic. It's old.
Some context before we begin. This follows the anime timeline (obviously). Lucy returns to the Maple Inn at the end of the show and for the most part everyone has accepted her, though they don't completely know of everything she's done. It should go without saying that I don't own Elfen Lied or any of its characters and that this fic is just for entertainment purposes.
The Maple inn had adapted to having Lucy apart of their family, having her take over the chores Nyu had previously done. She got along well with Kouta (as to be expected) and though she seemed to get along with Yuka on the surface, there seemed to be some tension around them. Luckily, Lucy seemed to get around well with Mayu. Lucy eventually apologized for the pain she had caused Nana, and thought it took some time, Nana was able to at least put it behind her and try to get along with Lucy.
Then one day...
"Its pretty windy out." Mayu notes, sitting outside with Nana and Wanta.
"I like it." Nana says. "The wind just makes me feel good." With that, Yuka returns from a shopping run.
"Woah, whys it so windy in here?" Yuka questions.
"What do you mean?" Mayu questions.
"Just outside the gate, there no wind whatsoever." Yuka explains.
"Nana, are you doing something with your power?" Mayu whispers to her friend.
"No. I don't think I could even make it this windy here." Nana whispers back.
"Is Kouta doing something thats making it windy? Or Lucy?" Yuka questions. Just as she says that, Kouta and Lucy come out from within the house.
"Woah! How is it so windy?" Kouta asks.
"Wait, you don't know?" Yuka asks. Both Lucy and Kouta shake their heads. "Then what-"
Yuka is cut off as a flash of bright light appears in the middle of the yard. It then disappears to reveal a man in a white and black striped shirt, dark grey jeans, and a beanie. He had a sort of generic face.
"Hello!" He ecstatically greets.
"Who the hell are you." Lucy shouts, getting her vectors on the defensive, Nana doing the same.
"Who I am isn't important so much as why I'm here." The man says. Silence.
"Are you gonna tell us?" Mayu questions.
"Yes." The man responds. He then hands her a disc case. "Delivery."
"Whats this?" she asks.
"That is Elfen Lied." The man answers. "A show staring you guys that exists in my dimension."
"Whats a dimension?" Nana asks.
"I would explain it, but that'll take awhile and I'm kinda in a rush. Anyway, what I do tell you is that its a show of how your family was formed." The man explains.
"Why would you give us a show about that?" Yuka questions. "We know how it happened, we were here."
"I know, but its cool to see from the perspectives of other people." The man explains. "Plus, this might answer some of your unanswered questions." This actually intrigued Yuka. "Welp, I've done my job, so I'm outta here. Best of luck." And with that, the man had just disappeared, leaving the disc case as the only proof he was ever here.
"So... what do we do?" Maya asks.
"I think we should watch it." Yuka voices. There are a lot of strange things that have happened this past year that I would like explained."
Kouta and Lucy fidget a little, clearly nervous as to what it might reveal. They're not alone in their thoughts.
"I don't think we should. It could have something private to anyone of us." Mayu voices.
"Mayu's right. We shouldn't watch this." Kouta agreed.
"Fine. Then you, Nana, and Lucy can fill me in on what happened to you that time you all ran out of the house after each other." Yuka says. "Maybe even tell me what was with the soldiers roaming around Endoshima for seemingly no reason."
"I think we should try it." Nana voices. "I'm sure everyone would understand."
"Yes. Let's at least try it. If we don't like what we see, or it gets too private, we can just stop watching." Yuka agrees.
"Very well. I guess we could try it then." Mayu relents. Meanwhile, Lucy is getting nervous. She has an idea of what the discs would show. What would her whole family think knowing what she has done. She feels Kouta grip her hand. She looks to him to see he has a look of assurance on his face.
"Don't worry. They'll understand, even if its not right away." He whispers to her. "I'll be with you all the way."
Lucy nods to him, a hint of a smile on her face. "Fine. Lets watch it."
"There will be some things that we've done that we rather forget, being shown on there, so lets try to be reasonable with one another if we see them." Kouta brings up. Everyone nods in agreeance.
Getting the Dvd player ready, Kouta inserts the disc and the video starts playing.
It starts on a cold open on a pool of blood and a severed arm. A reflection can be seen in the blood.
"What the hell!" Yuka reels back. "I thought this was about us!"
"It could just be a perspective we've never seen before." Mayu explains. While Kouta is oblivious, Nana and Lucy know exactly what is going to be shown.
'Why did it have to start there.' Lucy thought. Her relationships could be shattered by what everyone else sees here. They might not even get the proper context for her escape and even then, they might still reject her.
The shot switches to show a scared security guard clutching his bleeding stump while his shell shocked buddy stands behind him and metal bars of sorts. The shot then switches to show what the two are terrified of, a figure bound up with a frightening looking helmet on their head. The figure looks at the guard and his head comes off, gushing a bit of blood.
Kouta then understands. 'The figure is lucy. This must be how she first got away from those men.' Looking at Lucys nervous expression confirms this.
Yuka is put even more on edge. If the footage is to be believed, there was someone out there who could kill people with a simple thought. She was even more terrified to remember that this was related to their family in some way.
Mayu is also able to put the pieces together. 'That person must be Lucy. This must be what Nana meant when she said she killed a lot of people. But they have her bound up. Why? Did the killing start before this or was this what initiated it?'
It cuts to show a man watching everything from a monitor.
'So, the bastard wasn't lying when he said he free'd me.' Lucy thought.
Cut to a close up of the helmeted figure showing she has pink hair inside the helmet.
"Thats you! Isn't it!" Yuka exclaims, pointing an accusing figure at Lucy.
"Yeah..." Lucy says, looking away from the girl.
"You killed someone! No, how did you do that by looking at them!" Yuka exclaims.
"Yuka." Kouta says in an attempt to calm her down. It is then she notices the lack of reaction from everyone.
"How are none of you surprised by this! Did you know!" Yuka says to them.
"I knew she could do things like that, I just didn't know about everything else here." Kouta truthfully explains. Mayu and Nana nod, they two knew of her powers, but not where she was now. Well, Nana knew but that wasn't relevant right now.
Frustrated that she was kept in the dark, she turned her anger to Lucy.
"Explain." She demanded.
"I was born with those powers." Lucy simply says.
"And what are we seeing now?" Yuka asks.
"My escape from an institute that kept me locked up like a lab rat for four years." Lucy explains.
Yuka went wide eyed at this. 'Someone was locking people up? Was it because of those powers? What did they do to them!' Thinking back to how they had Lucy bound up, that had not had to have been comfortable. Meanwhile, Kouta and Mayu were having similar thoughts.
The surviving guard watches as a key is lifted in mid air. He watches, utterly terrified as Lucy rings the key closer to herself.
"You weren't hung up like that 24/7?" Kouta nervously asks.
"For the most part, I was. They would lie me down and take off that damn helmet when they were about to experiment with me, but that rarely happened." Lucy explains.
"How did you sleep like that!" Mayu asks. She never would be able to sleep upright if she were in Lucys position.
"I never did. I would be awake most of the time and just pass out if I was awake too long. Thats the only way I ever got any rest." Lucy explains. Kouta, Yuka, and Mayu are horrified at this revelation. To live like that for four years... how could those people justify such torture.
Guard 2: No!
The guard pulls out his pistol and fires all his bullets at Lucy. Cut to outside Lucys cell.
'How did she survive that?' Yuka and Mayu think.
Cut to show Lucy breaking free of her restraints before back to outside the cell. Then to show the outer cage crumbling.
"Why was there an outer cage like that?" Yuka asks. "This security looks a little much."
"Clearly not." Lucy responds. "It was to show the guards the range of my powers. Leaving any objects in there was strictly forbidden, much less having anyone in there."
"How did they feed you?" Mayu asks.
"I was force fed through the helmet. They gave me some slop that tasted like cardboard two times a day." Lucy explains.
"How could these people be doing something so... so... unethical." Kouta angrily says. Lucy's face softens seeing Kouta's care for her. She couldn't bring herself to tell him that that wasn't even scratching the surface in how cruel the institute was.
The cage is further crushed. The man, now with dead bodies surrounding him, presses a button on one of the consoles.
'Just who is that?' Everyone minus Lucy collectively thinks.
The door to Lucys cell opens letting in light to the normally dark room. Lucy is shown facing the door. Her ass on full display.
Kouta hastily looks away while Yuka shoots him a frustrated glare.
"They never gave you clothes!?" Mayu exclaims. 'Nana came from the same place as Lucy. Were they as uncaring to her as they were Lucy?' She thinks.
"No. To them, we aren't human. Animals don't wear clothes do they." Lucy explains. All the humans in the room clench their fists in anger.
"This is illegal! If this place is still out there, we should get the police involved." Yuka declares.
"They won't help." Lucy says.
'Yeah, they won't. They're in on it too.' Kouta thinks, still pissed at his friends treatment. How did she last four years in there without going insane?
Switches to a front shot of Lucy. She holds up the severed head of one of the guards and lets it drop to the floor.
Kouta looks back to the screen to get a full view of Lucy. He quickly blushes and looks the other way.
Lucy meanwhile, doesn't mind everyone getting a view of her completely nude body, but thinking of Kouta looking at her like that makes her feel strangely nervous.
Nana, watching Kouta avoid eye contact with the TV looks on confused as to why he's all red in the face. Was he getting sick?
Lucy hums Lilium while she very slowly makes her exit.
'Thats the tune from Kouta's music box!' Mayu realizes. 'She must have heard it from somewhere else.'
Scene switches to a random hallway.
Secretary : I don't envy you Kisaragi. Being Chief Kurama's secretary must be murder.
'Whats this?' Everyone thinks. 'It doesn't look to be too important.'
Cuts to show three secretarys in the room talk with one another.
Kisaragi: Yeah? What makes you think that?
Secretary: I can tell by the way he looks at me. That guy is scary.
Kisaragi: No, he's really nice when you get to know him.
Nana smiles at the woman's words. Lucy snorts in disapproval of them.
Kisaragi: You know, anybody would look scary if they had to put up with my mistakes. But today, I'm going to get it right!
The scene changes to show the security arming themselves with MP5s.
Automated voice: This is an emergency alert. The underground vault will be sealed in 60 seconds. All staff evacuate immediately.
Meanwhile, Kisaragi was shown stumbling down a hallway trying her best to not spill the one cup of coffee on her tray.
"I don't think I've met anyone with that terrible of a sense of balance." Kouta comments.
A security guard is beheaded as Lucy slowly walks towards the rest.
'She's so casual about killing people.' Yuka thought. Saying this fact made her uncomfortable would be an understatment.
Security guard: Stay calm. The manual says she can't hurt us from more than two meters away.
'So theres a limit to her power.' Kouta thinks to himself. 'I wonder why she has such a limited range.'
Security guard 2: Yeah but, didn't it say to keep objects away from her too?
Lucy picks up a pen from the dead guard using her powers. And throws it straight through another's skull.
Mayu is startled by this. The invisible arms Lucy has must be really powerful if they send a measly pen through what is possibly the strongest bone in the human body.
The next had his arms removed before being split in half. The last was finally beheaded. The remaining guards opened fire. Half of one flew through the hallway, hitting the end. A splatter of blood explodes as a guards attempts to run away before being split.
Lucy shifts uncomfortably in her seat. She could sense the unease and horror of her family members. Nothing in the house would be the same again. Even more so, while she regretted killing some people, mainly innocents, she had no regret for ending the lives of her jailors.
Seeing Lucys discomfort, Kouta speaks up. "We know you've changed Lucy. Whats done is done." He says. Mayu and Nana nod in agreeance. Yuka however, isn't paying attention.
'Lucys a monster! Who knows what she's done to get locked up like that with all that security. How does someone even have powers like those!' She thinks as the chorus of carnage continues.
A guard, still alive and covered in blood, cowers in fear as Lucy comes up behind him. Lucys helmeted head is obscured by his newly freed blood.
Kouta flinched. Even though he meant what he said, he didn't think he would ever be able to get used to what Lucy had done.
Lucy watched Kouta's reaction and was overwhelmed with guilt. She didn't want him to see her this way, and it was looking like her escape was only a preview of what was to come. 'I swear, I'll make it up to him one day.' She thought to herself. 'I'll make him proud to have taken me in even if it costs my life.
More gunfire from four guards which seem ineffective against Lucy as she slowly approaches.
"How are you able to stop bullets?" Mayu asks.
"I'll shield myself with my vectors and if they're light enough, they won't get through." Lucy nervously explains. When would this part be over.
Once they are out of ammo, Lucy smites them in a rain of blood. A surviving guard is shown to be terrified before his head slides off. And elevator goes up and once it arrives at its destination, revealing Lucy inside, it is pelted with more gunfire drawing up a thick fog of smoke. Once it clears, the bullets are seen floating around an unharmed, sitting, Lucy before clattering to the floor.
The terrified guards take a step back as Lucy rises. The guards scream as they shoot onto Lucy again yielding the same results as she slowly made her way toward them, striking them down until there is one left.
Covered in blood, he runs as fast as he can away from the diclonius. Once he reaches the closed door, he huddles up in the corner as Lucy slowly makes her way toward him. Once she reaches him, she sits down to eye level. The soldier is seen terrified before cutting back to Lucy as the sound of snapping bone and rushing blood are heard.
Lucy was thankful that his death was not shown on screen. It was one of her more... graphic kills.
"Why did you have to do that?" Kouta asks, his tone curious more than accusing. "Why not kill them quickly."
"I was afraid every day I was locked up. I wanted them to feel that same fear I felt." Lucy explains.
While Yuka could understand that, that still didn't justify all that she just saw Lucy do. What was stopping her from massacring everyone here, she wondered.
A hand print appears on a wall nearby a switch. It moves down to said switch smearing blood along the way. The blood hand seemingly grasps the switch and throws it down.
"Woah, what?!" Kouta exclaims. "What is with the hand?"
"They're my powers." Lucy simply explains. Oh yeah, he didn't know the specifics of their powers.
"Explain." Yuka sternly says. "So they're not like normal telekinesis, what are they?"
Lucy sighs. "I was born with four invisible hands that can reach two meters, called vectors. They're what allow me to shield myself from harm and... and... allow me to cut things with ease."
"Like all those people?" Yuka prompts. Lucy responds by shrinking into herself.
The door opens letting light into the room. On the other side are a dozen soldiers accompanied by a sharp looking man.
Nana smiles at seeing her papa again. Oh yeah! Watching this, she might see him even more.
Meanwhile, the three humans were confused. What was that guy going to do against Lucy?
After a few moments of the two staring at each other, Kisaragi trips between Lucy and the small force.
Lucy paled remembering this part. Looking back, perhaps she shouldn't have killed that girl, but at the time it was clear to her that the person was someone Kurama cared about, and she did promise him she would kill everyone he loved as vengeance for Aiko.
Kurama: Kisaragi!
Kisaragi: Chief Kurama, I'm really sorry, I messed up again.
Kurama: Kisaragi run!
Kisaragi: Hey, what going on?
'That girls really slow on reading the situation.' Mayu mentally notes.
Kurama: Run away! Go!
Lucy steps up to Kisaragi and lays a vector on her shoulder.
Kurama: No Lucy! Don't do it!
Kurama is held back by two guards. Lucy pulls off Kisaragi's head, holding it up like a trophy while the rest of her body falls.
"What the hell!" Yuka screams. "You didn't have to kill that girl! She did nothing wrong!" Lucy looks to the rest of the audience to see they all have sour looks on their faces.
"I'm sorry." Lucy meekly says. "I... have a history with that man, Kurama and I wanted to hurt him. Seeing that he cared for that girl, I killed her to do that to him. I regret it now. She had nothing to do with this." While the others relax, somewhat, Yuka keeps her scowl.
Kurama: Open fire!
The soldiers obey the command and rain fire on Lucy whos using Kisaragi's body as a shield.
"How come none of the bullets are passing through her body to hit you?" Mayu asks.
"I was using my vectors to reinforce the body, so nothing would pass through." Lucy explains. "I used her body as a shield to rub salt in the wound for Kurama."
As the gunfire continues, Lucy plucks a pen off her shield using her vector and throws it into the skull of a guard near Kurama, splattering a bit of blood on the man. The gunfire then stops.
Kurama: Hurry, shoot her!
Lucy drops Kisaragi's body back to the ground.
Security guard 3: We're out of bullets.
Lucy slowly approaches as a guard rushes her.
Security guard 4: I'll take this bitch!
Kurama: Watch out!
A hole is punched through the guard. His heart lands on another guard causing him to panic.
'What was that guy thinking, charging at her like that?' Kouta wonders.
Lucy continues forward, butchering four soldiers in her way causing the others to retreat. Kurama just stands their and watches as Lucy walks past him, a bloody handprint left on his shoulder.
Lucy didn't like her papa, Nana knew that for sure, but why didn't she kill him like all the others, she was left to wonder.
'This guy sure is brave to not run like the armed soldiers.' Kouta thinks, also puzzled why Lucy didn't kill this captor. He seemed important enough that it would hurt the facility if he were dead. Not that Kouta minded, he was already sick enough of the slaughter as is.
Yuka and Mayu are also left to wonder why Kurama was spared.
Kurama brings up a radio.
Kurama: She's on her way to the emergency exit. Bring the partition down and keep her locked in. A large door comes down, trapping Lucy in a short hallway.
The mystery man watches through the camera's, pressing a button.
Lucy meanwhile, slashes at the door, only making dent marks on it before looking to her left to see a door opened, exposing the night sky.
Cut to Kurama on the radio.
Kurama: The outer partition has been opened!? That can't be right! Don't give me excuses, just send a sharpshooter.
Cut back to show Lucy is being lined up in someone's crosshairs.
"That was fast." Mayu comments. "Why were you walking so slow still? There was no one left to scare."
"At that point, I hadn't properly walked in four years. I was afraid if I didn't move slowly, I would trip over myself or something." Lucy answered, relived that her escape was finally ending and that everyone wouldn't see this side of her anymore... at least for awhile.
Kurama: Make this bullet count. She isn't gonna give you a separate shot.
Sniper: This is a fifty caliber anti-tank rifle. Strong as her vectors are, theres no way she can stop a round from this rifle.
Kurama: Back of her head.
Sniper: Copy.
The sniper takes a few more seconds to line up his shot while Lucy approaches a cliff overlooking the water. At the last second, Lucy turns her head as the shot is fired.
Lucy cringed internally. She was so close to death at that moment. If she had moved her head a second later, she wouldn't have had the chance to apologize to Kouta and become a part of the family here. She then remembers all the varying reactions to her mass killings. 'Though, that may not last for long.' she bitterly thinks.
The bullet sails through the air, hitting the side of her helmet and blowing it off allowing her long hair to flow freely as she slowly falls into the ocean, blood leaking from where she was shot.
'That explains how we found her.' Kouta thinks. 'Was that what caused her other personality, Nyu?'
Kurama: God damn it! She's still alive!
Lucy continues to fall until she hits the water.
It the cuts to morning, showing several shots of Kamakura before showing Yuka waiting at the train station.
'And to think all that happened just before we met her...' Yuka thinks.
She looks around before checking her watch. She then comes to a realization about something. She is shown walking through the city a bit.
'This place really is a nice place.' Nana thinks, taking in the imagery.
Yuka the gets to a flight of stone stairs she looks up to see Kouta walking up those steps. She quickly moves up to join him when the boy notices her.
Yuka: You're Kouta. Aren't you.
Kouta: What? Um, well...
Yuka: I'm Yuka. Your cousin.
Kouta: Oh. You're Yuka?
"Was this the first time you two met?" Mayu asks.
"No, we hadn't seen each other in years though." Yuka answers.
"I've been living in Hokkaido with my mother since the last I saw her." Kouta explains.
"Whats Hokkaido?" Nana asks.
"Its the town I lived in before coming here." Kouta explains. "We should all visit it sometime."
"That sounds like a great idea!" Nana exclaims while Mayu nods in agreement and Lucy offers a smile.
'It would be nice to meet more of Kouta's family however... how can I stare in the face of the woman who's husband and daughter I took from her?' Lucy thinks.
Yuka: Wow. I missed you at the station. I've been looking all over.
Kouta: Really? Sorry.
A bird circles the sky as the two stare at the ocean from the stairs.
These are the same stairs we stood together at before... that night, Lucy realizes.
Kouta: But how did you know I'd be here?
Yuka: You used to like to watch the ocean from up here, right? I remembered.
Kouta: The view looks the same. It hasn't changed since we were kids.
Yuka: Now we're going to the same collage, who would have guessed. We've come this far already lets go see the ocean.
Yuka grabs Kouta and drags him down the stairs.
Kouta: Hey! What are you doing!
Yuka: Come on! We used to go there all the time!
Cut to show the shore. Kouta and Yuka stare out into the sea.
Yuka: Remember when we used to play here?
Kouta: Yeah. The three of us. You, me, and Kanae.
Yuka: Little Kanae.
'Oh yeah! Kanae is the girl in the picture.' Nana realizes. 'I wish I could have met her. If she was Kouta's sister, she must have been really nice.'
Kouta: The last day, she was here collecting seashells.
Kouta hunches down as he and Yuka remember.
Kanae: Kouta look!
"Huh?" Kouta exclaims. Everyone snaps to attention. where did that come from?
Cut to Kanae in the past, holding up a handful of seashells.
"Oh. This must be a flashback." Yuka explains.
"Like in anime?" Mayu asks.
"I suppose." Yuka says. She didn't know how to feel about their life being compared to an anime.
Kanae: I found a tone of pretty sea shells, look aren't they great!
Kouta: They don't look so pretty to me.
Kanae looks shocked before shaking herself into an angry look.
Cut back to the present where Yuka is staring out into the water with Kouta looking down. Cut to show a pair of bare feet in the water.
'This must have been when they first met Lucy... or Nyu.' Mayu realizes. 'That must have been quite a first impression, just showing up completely naked out of no where.'
'To think all of THAT happened just before we met her.' Yuka thinks.
Yuka: Kouta.
Kouta: What?
Yuka: Take a look over there.
Kouta: Hu?
Kouta's eyes widen in shock at what he sees. Kouta gets to his feet as we see Lucy still standing in the water.
Kouta: Whats going on?
Yuka: Your guess is as good as mine.
'It would be shocking for someone to see that... I'm lucky it was them who found me first.' Lucy thinks.
Lucy hair waves in the wind as she continues to just stand there. Cut to show her chest while bringing her hands up.
Kouta is once again reminded that his friend is naked and looks away.
'Pervert.' Yuka thinks as she watches him.
Lucy's hands finally reach her face, covering it.
Nyu: Nyu?
Nyu looks up.
Kouta and Yuka still look on shocked.
Kouta: Um, excuse me?
Nyu jumps back in surprise at their being other people here. Nyu run away but ends up falling flat on her face.
"She was probably feeling the effects of not having used my legs in awhile." Lucy comments.
Nyu gets up into a sitting position where she cries out like a baby.
Lucy's face reddens in embarrassment. That was still her body they were watching do these things. Hopefully nothing else embarrassing comes up.
Kouta: Uh, um.
Yuka finally shoves him to look the other way.
Yuka: Kouta, take your clothes off, now!
Kouta: What?
Yuka: Just take off your clothes!
Cut to show the group up against the wall, Nyu has Kouta's over shirt on, covering her modesty.
"Um, thanks for that." Lucy says, with a somewhat embarrassed tone. "I imagine it would have been real troublesome for me... or Nyu, to get around naked.
"Uh, don't worry about it." Kouta responds, turning his head back towards the screen. Hopefully the nudity parts were over.
Kouta: It sure doesn't seem like she understands what we are saying.
Yuka: Hey, look at this. I think she's hurt.
Kouta approaches and gets a better look at Nyu.
Yuka: That head band makes it look like she has horns.
Yuka touches one to inspect it closer.
Yuka: No way! They're sticking out of her head!
Kouta at that point is shown to be terrified of something. The scene then cuts to show a little girl by a sunset obscured by shadows.
"Whoa! What!" Mayu exclaims.
"Whats happening to you Kouta?" Nana worriedly asks.
"Nu- nothing! It was nothing bad." Kouta assures them.
Yuka is meanwhile left to wonder. 'That could have been something from his repressed memory. From the looks of it that girl is Kanae but it could be someone else. Kouta said he met a strange girl one day, that could be her.'
Lucy meanwhile, is taken by surprise. 'He remembered me on some level, even through his amnesia.' The thought brings joy to Lucy's heart, but also sorrow on remembering that she was the cause of his amnesia. 'Please don't show that.'
Yuka is heard in the background trying to get Kouta's attention as he just stands with a surprised look on his face.
Kouta: What is it?
Yuka: I've been trying to tell you that I think we should take her to your place.
Kouta: What do you mean my place.
Yuka: The place you're moving in to, because we can't leave her like this.
Kouta: Uh, yeah.
Yuka: Its alright. You're safe now.
Yuka offers Nyu a smile of assurance. Nyu can only stare. Cut to show a few more shots of Kamakura
'This is nice.' Lucy internally comments on the soundtrack. 'I wonder who made it. Then again, who made this?'
Eventually, it stops on Nyu outside the Maple Inn watching pink petals fall.
Nyu: Nyu?
Cut to show the Inn has "Kaede house" written on it.
Lucy internally chuckles at the coincidence that they would all be living in a house that held her old name. 'Oh yeah. They still don't know my name used to be Kaede.'
Kouta: You guys were going to rent me a house is this it?
Yuka: It was a traditional Japanese restaurant, but they went out of business awhile ago.
"How did your family get this place? It must have been expensive." Mayu asks.
"Not really. My mom works in real estate and owns the building. We weren't using it and thought it would be alright for Kouta to stay." Yuka says.
"While I'm happy. This is the best home anyone can have!" Nana happily exclaims.
Yuka: My mom says as long as you clean the house everyday, you don't have to pay rent.
Kouta: Uh...
Yuka: Whats up?
Kouta: How many rooms does this house have?
Yuka: Lets see... ten if I remember correctly.
Kouta: And I'm supposed to clean them all? Without any help?
Yuka: And the garden.
"It does seem like a bit of a tall order." Mayu says.
"Oh please." Yuka scoffs. "Even so, its a better deal than having to pay rent."
"With all of us, its no problem at all." Nana says. "Even... if I can't do much."
"Don't worry Nana, you're getting better and better every day." Mayu assures her friend.
Kouta: Wait, so basically I'm supposed to be a free caretaker?
Yuka: Hmmmm, well. People always say theres nothing worse for a building than being neglected.
"Do they say that?" Nana whispers to Lucy.
"Pretty sure they don't." Lucy answers.
A petal lands atop Nyu's nose.
Nyu: Nyu?
'Nyu's so adorable like that.' Mayu gushes. 'Or Lucy... Both of them since they share the same body?' Kouta also thinks this is cute.
Cut to show the three inside the yard, opening the front door and walking in.
Kouta: Home, sweet home.
While walking inside, Kouta stops to look at ab old grandfather clock.
Kouta: Wow! This thing has to be an antique.
Meanwhile Nyu is holding her crotch and walking around doing the "pee pee dance".
Yuka: It doesn't work, even when you wind it. I'm pretty sure its broken.
Kouta: Too bad.
"Oh, we never thanked you for fixing that old thing." Kouta says to Lucy.
"Uh, no need. I didn't fix it. Nyu did." Lucy says. There is an awkward air around room as no one knows what to say next.
Yuka: Kouta, you should sleep in here until you're all set up,
Kouta: Okay.
Nyu runs up to Yuka.
Nyu: Nyu!
Yuka: Whats wrong?
Nyu then runs up to Kouta
Nyu: Nyu!
Yuka: What?
"Um, I think she has to use the bathroom." Mayu says.
"Well, yeah. We know that now." Kouta say. Lucy's face turns as red as her hair at the insinuation. 'Don't tell me I did THAT.'
Yuka: Well, um, I don't know what to do and I don't even know what her name is.
Kouta: All she says is Nyu Nyu. Nyu seems like a good name.
Nyu collapses to a sitting position on the floor.
Yuka: What?
Nyu sits back with a relived smile on her face.
Lucy gets redder by the second.
Kouta: Look, I think she likes it.
'Looking back, we were really dense reading the situation.' Yuka thinks. 'Kind of obvious now.'
Yuka: Yeah? You think so?
Nyu begins to make some nosie.
Yuka: Whats the matter.
Cut to show a growing pool under Nyu to which Yuka gasps.
Lucy hides her continuously growing red face in her palms.
"Uh... don't worry. Its all in the past now. Besides, it was Nyu who did that." Kouta tries to assure her.
"It doesn't make it less embarrassing." Lucy responds.
Cut to Kouta cleaning up the mess.
Cut to Yuka bathing Nyu.
"Wha! What the hell!" Yuka exclaims. "Who're the perverts that made this! Can't they just leave us to our damn privacy!"
"Makes me wonder what else they'll show." Mayu says. Yuka briefly considers to stop watching right here and now, but curiosity of Lucy and everything around the girl overtake this thought, pressing her to move forward.
"We've seen your back end for a few seconds. All of you had a full look at my stark naked body for minutes on end." Lucy reminds Yuka.
Yuka: You really should know better than to pee in places like that.
Nyu: Nyu.
Cut back to Kouta cleaning up the mess. A newly cleaned (and dressed) Yuka and Nyu walk out of the bath.
Yuka: Sorry to leave you with the mess.
Kouta: Thats alright, but you didn't have to give her my underwear.
Yuka: What else was she supposed to wear?
Nyu meanwhile fiddles with the large shirt, exposing her left breast.
Lucy sighs and shakes her head at her alternate personality's cluelessness.
Yuka: I'll buy her some new clothes later. Are you hungry? I brought rice balls! And I got plenty to share!
"Riceballs?" Nana questions.
"Yeah. We should have you try some. They're delicious." Yuka says. Nana's mouth waters at the thought.
Cut to show the three in the dining room Nyu stares at a wrapped up rice ball intently.
Yuka: Would you like some too?
Nyu: Nyu?
Nyu takes a rice ball as everyone else enjoys theirs.
Yuka: Hey, where do you think she came from? What was she doing there?
'A lot of possibility's entered my mind back then. Not one of them was "escape facility in a shower of blood."' Yuka thinks, still on edge from Lucy.
Kouta: Uh...
Before Kouta can answer he notices Nyu is holding the rice ball wrong and trying to eat it.
Kouta: Ah no. You've never had rice balls?
"To answer your question, no. Not even before I was Nyu." Lucy answers.
Kouta picks up some of the crumbs left from Nyu.
Kouta: You hold them like this.
Kouta shows Nyu how to hold them. Nyu opens her mouth and looks to Kouta.
Kouta: You're hopeless.
He then offers it to Nyu, letting her take a bite.
Kouta: Look, you got it all over your face.
Kouta cleans Nyu's face of the left over rice. Nyu smiles to him. Kouta smiles back. Yuka meanwhile, impatiently taps the table.
Cut to a large splatter of blood.
Lucy sighs internally. As embarrassing as it was, watching her time as Nyu was better than having her family watch her during her darkest days.
It shows the large splatter has engulfed what used to be Lucy's cage. Cut to show the back of Kurama, bloody hand print still on his back. He and five others look on at the devastation.
Shirakawa: The cage, the partitions, five locks and a security system. Everything was perfect. The cause of the shutter system anomaly has yet been determined.
"It was that one man." Mayu states.
"Yeah, but who was he? I feel like I've seen him somewhere before." Yuka says.
Kurama: In time, we'll sort it out. Right now, the priority is finding Lucy and killing her.
Shirakawa: You said kill, not capture?
Kurama: The Special Assault Team has been assembled.
'The soldiers on the beach.' Kouta realizes.
Kurama: If we don't stop Lucy, the blood of mankind is on our hands.
"What does he mean by that?" Yuka asks. It didn't make sense no matter how she put it in her mind.
Lucy sighs. "I'm sure the video will explain better than I can. Just know, I have no plans to actually go through with it." This only brings more questions to Yuka's mind.
Cut to show a pair of advanced googles of some kind. It then shows a simulation with four targets and a civilian. The four targets are quickly "shot" and the civilian is left alone. Cut to show people working in a room overlooking the simulation.
Institute Op 1: Thats incredible. He locked onto all four targets simultaneously.
SAT Commander: It would take a monster to beat Bando one on one.
Institute Op 1: A monster, huh?
Lucy internally laughed. A monster to beat him, and they put him up against one.
Bando moved to the next stage of the simulation as the lights were partially turned out.
SAT Commander: I could do without his personality quirks. Three more targets appear, one with a hostage. Bando makes short work of the three, leaving the hostage unharmed. After a pause he then shoots the hostage. From the viewing screen, he then moves to another section and full autos every target their, be it enemy or civilian. The SAT commander gets frustrated and slams down on his console.
SAT Commander: Bando! Stop screwing around!
Bando: Shit.
Bando removes his head piece.
Bando: What the hells the point of shooting at targets that don't scream or bleed? Its getting old! I'm ready for real people!
"How can having someone like this be acceptable!" Yuka exclaims.
"And they call us the monsters." Lucy mutters.
'Wait, thats the man on the beach!' Mayu realizes.
SAT commander: You bastard!
Institute Op 1: I understand.
Bando then walks into the room the two were currently in.
Bando: This is ridiculous. I'm done with this shit.
SAT Commander: A murderer escaped from the detainment facility this morning.
This gets Bando attention,
Institute Op 1: I want you to find her immediately and shoot her on sight.
Bando: Kill her? And I don't have to give her any warning?
The institute Op only looks on seriously, that being his answer. Bando begins laughing.
"Those hypocrites." Kouta growls. "Can't they see what they're doing."
Mayu flinches at Bando's cruelty. He was quite cruel to her when they had met after she had saved him, but she never imagined he was twisted to this degree.
Bando: Just go out an cap her, huh!
A secretary walks up behind Bando.
Secretary: Mr. Bando?
Bando backhands the secretary to the floor causing the other institute personal in the room to jump out of their seats.
Bando: Never sneak up behind me. Stupid bitch.
Bando walks away.
"That was mean." Nana frowns.
"Oh really?" Yuka sarcastically replies. "I'm sure he'll get meaner the more we see of him."
Institute Op 1: He's perfect.
"What the hell is with these people!" Kouta exclaims. "I'm wondering how this Bando even got employed at this institute."
"It doesn't surprise me that they would hire psychopaths to hunt us down." Lucy mutters. Kouta was right earlier, they are a bunch of hypocrites.
Cut to the outside of Maple Inn during a downpour. Cut to the inside to show Kouta routing around one of his bags while Nyu watches. Yuka kneels down beside the two, holding a broom.
Yuka: I gave the place a quick once over.
Kouta: Ah, thank you.
Yuka: It was a one time only special favour. From now on you're gonna have to-
Kouta: Yeah yeah. I know.
Nyu: Nyuuuu.
Kouta: And her? She really can't stay here.
Yuka: Maybe we should have called the police in the first place.
Kouta: Maybe so.
"But its a good thing we didn't." Kouta mutters. Yuka, can't find herself agreeing with that sentiment.
'Lucy's dangerous, and with her comes a load of more dangerous people. Would it have been better if we HAD called the police?' She wonders.
Nyu gets into Kouta's bag and drops a box that she had picked out. Inside is something pink.
Kouta: Whoops.
Kouta takes it out to reveal that it was a seashell.
Yuka: Is that... from the last time we went to the beach?
Kouta: Hmm.
Kanae: Look Kouta.
Flashes back to Kanae presenting a seashell to a younger Kouta and Yuka.
Yuka: Its pretty.
Kouta: It really is. Can't believe you found something nice.
Kanae smirks.
Kanae: And?
Kouta pets Kanae on the head
Kouta: Fine. You did a good job.
Kanae: That settles it, its going to be your present.
Kouta smiles at the scene. How he wished his sister was here with them. He was sure she would have been good friends with Mayu, Nana, and even Lucy.
Lucy meanwhile, has her mood plummet again. Why had she agreed to watch these things again? They only served to torture her with either with embarrassment, guilt, or with having her family watch her murder people. She could stomach the first one, but not so much the other two.
Kouta: It wasn't long after-
Flashback to present day.
Kouta: That she got sick and died.
Yuka: She was sick? Is that what you said?
'Did Kouta even remember Kanae was murdered and not sick?' Yuka wondered. 'Whoever would kill such a sweet innocent little girl, I hope they rot in hell.'
Kouta: This is like a memento of my sister. And since I came back here again, it just made sense to bring it.
Yuka: Kouta...
Nyu then gets closer and takes the shell from Kouta.
Kouta: What is it?
Nyu stares at the shell angrily before snapping it in half causeing the other two to gasp. Nyu only smiles.
"Sorry." Lucy mutters.
"Don't be. I did something I'm... not proud of right after." Kouta says.
Kouta shoots up and grabs the front of Nyu's shirt.
Kouta: What are you...!
Yuka: Kouta!
Kouta: What are you doing! I said it was a memento of my sister!
Yuka: Kouta no!
Kouta: What were you thinking!
Yuka: Kouta stop!
Yuka pries the two apart.
Both Mayu and Nana jump in their seats. They had never seen Kouta THIS angry before.
Kouta: Was that supposed to be some kind of joke!
Yuka: Stop it! Kouta calm down! She must have thought the shell-
Kouta: You know what! Get out of here!
Yuka: Kouta wait a minute!
Kouta: You heard me! Go!
Tears form in Nyu's eyes as she looks about ready to cry.
Yuka: What are you saying.
Kouta: I'm saying get out!
Nyu drops the shell halves.
Yuka: You have to calm down.
Kouta: This isn't funny!
Nyu leaps over the table and runs out of the room. It then cuts to the main room to show her running out of the house. A violin version of Lilium plays.
"Yeah... sorry about that." Kouta apologizes.
"Its fine... I know Nyu had forgiven you. Its who she is." Lucy says. Speaking of, she hadn't become her alternate self in awhile. She briefly wondered if Nyu was still in there or if getting her horns shot of somehow erased her.
"Oh! Its the song from the music box, but its different!" Nana exclaims.
"Its a violin." Mayu explains. "And it sounds beautiful!" On that, everyone agreed.
After a few shots of the Maple Inn, it settles back with Kouta and Yuka.
Kouta: What the hell was she thinking?
Yuka: I think... She understood. She knew the seashell made you sad. Wherever Kanae is, I don't think she would be happy to see you like this. Her memory outta be worth more to you than just bitterness. There was nothing bitter about how she lived.
Lucy is surprised at Yuka's words. She figured her alternate personality was just clueless, but Yuka suggested that she was more intelligent than one might think. It possabily meant her alternate self was capable of learning quickly, but that was just a hopeful guess. It mean't less of her embarrassing herself.
Yuka: I'm going to go look for Nyu. We can't leaver her alone. Its miserable out.
Yuka slowly leaves Kouta by himself.
Cut to show a helicopter flying in the rain. Cut to inside with a bunch of soldiers, including Bando.
PA: We'll be above Kamakura soon.
Bando: Never thought I'd see the day when this county would let me terminate a minor. Hey, things are looking up in the world.
SAT soldier: Stop talking jerk! I happen to take our mission seriously.
Bando then pulls a gun on the man causing the other men to rise in distress.
"Okay, if you killed that guy, I would think you have done the world a favour." Yuka says.
"Sorry to disappoint. I didn't let him leave unscathed though." Lucy says. She internally cringes upon remembering her torture of the man when the two had met. She should have put the bastard out of his misery, quickly. But as it was now, it was likely going to make her family judge her more than they likely already were.
Bando: Everyday all this training what does it add up to, huh? Killing people. Right?
Bando pulls the trigger, but there is no bullet in the chamber.
Bando: That serious enough for you?
Bando leans back looking at his pistol when the commander shows up.
SAT commander: When you're done playing grab ass, you guys lock and load.
Cut to show Nyu on the beach.
SAT commander: Your target killed twenty three people in five minutes. She's vicious.
Cut to show Nyu's face closer up, and she is crying.
The video ends.
"I..." Lucy tries to find words. "I'm sorry you had to see all of that."
"You mean, that we had to find out you killed people!" Yuka corrects.
"Yuka! Its in the past. Lucy's changed." Kouta defends.
"Have you?!" She asks the diclonius in question.
"Yes. I haven't killed in the time I've come back." Lucy assures her.
"And you regret all the killing?" Yuka asks.
"For the soldiers, no. They deserved what they got. But for the innocents, everyday." Lucy answers. Yuka eyes Lucy but says no more, letting the matter slide, for now.
"That was it? Mayu and I weren't there though." Nana pouts.
"No, that was just the first episode." Mayu assures her. "I'm sure we'll turn up eventually."
"So... do we continue?" Kouta asks the group.
"Yes! I wanna see when Mayu and I show up!" Nana exclaims. The rest are silent, collecting their thoughts.
"We should continue." Yuka agrees.
"Lucy, are you going to be okay with continuing?" Mayu asks.
'No.'
"Yes. I'll be fine." Lucy assures the girl. With that, Kouta starts the next episode.
AN: This isn't my first time writing a react fic, but this my first time having characters react to their own show. I'd very much appreciate it if you tell me how I did, if anyone seems out of character to you, Lucy in particular. I worry I write her as too meek, but it makes sense to me given the circumstances. I don't want to write her being TOO harsh as I worry that might make her unlikable. Just tell me if I wrote a certain character that felt off to you and tell me how so I can try to improve for the next chapter. Speaking of which, the next chapter will likely not be out for awhile given that I have IRL stuff that keeps me busy along with another fic to juggle.
