Chapter Two
Gilded Age Manor.
Maryland.
Lizzy finished reading the ad.
She was in the parlor she grew up in and when she read this, she narrowed her eyes. From what she read, the Darcys' were inquiring if there was a lady who would be able to replace their house keeper. She paused when she looked outside; the light was shining on the grounds. Lizzy smiled when she watched as the grounds man appeared. He was one of the finest men she'd been blessed to know and Lizzy thanked Our Lord for him. As she watched, she noticed he was going to the center of the lawn and she figured he was going to tend to the plants
there.
"Makes sense that the Darcys' want a replacement. Their house keeper was more like a mother to them." A voice from behind remarked.
Lizzy looked and smiled at her house keeper, Mrs. Robinson. She was Lizzy's family's house keeper and good friend to Lizzy.
Lizzy waited as Mrs. Robinson approached. She was thankful she was able to converse with her about the Darcys'. As it was, she was courting Fitzwilliam but something about him was different. Lizzy knew a little about their background but not all of it. All she knew was Fitzwilliam was the oldest, then Newman, and the youngest, Ignatius who recently married. And their Papa was a darling and Lizzy liked him a lot. She offered this in prayer as Mrs. Robinson added.
"The lady is very fine but she's getting older. Like Mrs. Glitch, she is one of the women who informed everyone she is retiring."
"The Darcys' mentioned it in the papers; I know you read about it?" Lizzy inquired.
Mrs. Robinson nodded as she crossed her arms. One thing Lizzy knew about was when news about anyone reached her house hold, the servants would know about it. For Lizzy, she didn't want to participate in any form of gossip; she only wanted to know the truth and live it. She finished her prayer as she and Mrs. Robins looked out the window. Lizzy watched as the grounds man began his work; here, she wondered how the Darcys' were going to find another house keeper.
Mrs. Robinson watched as the grounds man worked. She frowned when she noticed he was bending over something. Lizzy noticed too and when she looked more, she realized he was digging something out of the grass.
"He seems to be taking something from the ground." Mrs.
Robinson voiced for Lizzy.
She nodded before she rose. Lizzy wanted to know what he found because from where she was, she noticed he wasn't too pleased with what he'd found. The unquie part was the manor, which was Gilded fashion, was one of the best Lizzy been blessed to live in. She thanked Our Lord for this as well as Our Blessed Mother; she exited but turned around and after she thanked Mrs. Robins, Lizzy made her exit for the front. She wanted to know what the man had found and from what she'd seen. Lizzy offered a prayer as she made her way to the front. She hoped everything was alright; the minute she opened the door, she stepped out into the fresh air and when she inhaled, she felt how God's air entered her. She thanked Him before she made her way over towards the grounds man. She wondered what he found as she approached.
