Chapter Seven

The Council of Baltimore.

Fitzwilliam closed the suitcase and inwardly sighed.

He couldn't believe that after a full week, the horse his Papa intended to buy wasn't available and he was back in town at the council. Fitzwilliam also remembered he was hoping to see Lizzy but he knew too she was occupied at the orphanage. But another thing was on his mind; the mysterious baby they found not too long ago.

"What awes me is that the baby was found the day of Ignatius's wedding and the only clue to his identity is that of the note." Fitzwilliam recalled. He paused when he remembered what Mrs. Robinson said about taking him to a wet nurse and then figure out who his parents where and how he managed to appear there. Fitzwilliam turned and looked at the other men of the council. The men, who were older than he was, were gathered together in one area of the building. As Fitzwilliam looked, he noticed Mr. Franklin; another relative of the Otter family. Fitzwilliam didn't let it show but he found it hard to adjust to them. He offered a prayer of courage when he knew he would be replacing Mr. Franklin later.

"Mr. Franklin is a well esteemed man." Fitzwilliam overheard another one of the council men say. Fitzwilliam knew he was going to replace him and he was thankful the older gentleman had wisdom, as well as being kind. Fitzwilliam turned and noticed Mr. Franklin; yes indeed; he was a well to do man and liked. Fitzwilliam smiled when he knew he was going to replace him but he also prayed for the best way to do what he knew was right.

"Indeed; he is. We will all miss him but he had his time. God bless him and his wife, Mrs. Franklin." Another gentleman responded.

"God bless him indeed." The first replied.

Fitzwilliam offered a prayer for him as he agreed too. He wanted to wish Mr. Franklin the best when he retired but he knew too he had duties. He finished his prayer before he turned and made his way to the exit. Fitzwilliam wanted to accomplish one task which he knew was going to be eventful: travel to the farm where Papa hoped to purchase their horse.

"One thing is certain, having a backup horse is a blessing and will aid you when you travel." Papa had said to him earlier. Fitzwilliam agreed as he passed by the other councilmen. Fitzwilliam did his best not to show it but he felt he was being watched.

Fitzwilliam exited as one other thought entered his mind.

"Wonder what it is which bothers them?"
