So for some reason after watching all of Xmen 97 I got this idea for this fic and couldn't write anything else till I put at least one chapter in. I'll try to go back to my Fire Emblem one in June. Sorry for the people waiting on that I have been busy and it took a month to get the time to write this. I will try and be better.
My name is Sylvester LeBeau and this is my story.
The buzzing of the lightbulbs distracts me as I try to focus. This headache is not helping. Oh yeah, I should introduce myself since you decided to hear me out. I'm Sylvester Lebau. I'm a mutant. The one with that x gene. The odd thing about me is that I'm a clone of Gambit made by Mr. Sinister. You see, it seems the old white face took a piece of the lovable thief's DNA and did what he does when he gets mutant DNA. He decided to make a clone for experiments. I was one that he decided to let me go and see what I do. I have the skills of Gambit and his knowledge but no true memory of his. One last thing to add to this all. I was just watching X-Men 97 a few days ago and now I'm in this body.
So yeah that's me, the no accent clone of Gambit. I'm in a Texas bar with clothes I stole from one of Gambit's safe houses. Yeah, I have no memory of him but a lot of his knowledge to help me along the way. It seems he keeps these coats at all his places. It's a nice coat. I'm wearing a shirt that says everything is bigger in Texas with some sunglasses to hide my now-odd eyes.

A song starts to play on the bar's speakers and I head to the bathroom for some privacy. Ok, Sylvester, you need to calm down. Get a hold on what is happening. Yes, you are in the Marvel universe now. Thankfully you are not in imminent danger. One big problem is we are a mutant which constantly has big disasters happening to them. Well now us.
Another thing is that a guy with a literal white face could possibly take you at any moment to end his little experiment. I look at my new face and see a stranger's face looking back at me. The first thing I see is my new eyes. The white of my eyes are black now and my once green eyes are now a deep glowing blue. Ok, that's new. I then try to mess up my hair to not be in Gambit's style. I wonder how many times I'm going to be compared to Gambit. Don't blame him, Sylvester. As I finish washing my hands I get out of the bathroom to the song still playing and I put my sunglasses on my face. I sit at the bar and put my hands in my coat. I feel the pack of cards and a few dollars that I took from the safe house. My eyes look at the barkeep. He is about middle-aged with some gray around his temple. His experience behind a bar is shown by how clean he keeps everything. He must have done this for a long time.
I ask "Hey I know this might be an odd question to ask but do you know how far we are from Houston?" I don't know exactly where I am since I kept walking after getting to the safe house. It's honestly a miracle I got there in the first place. The bar keeps brown eyes turning to me and he says "Not the strangest question I have heard Sir. Well, we are in Blanco so I'd say about three maybe four hours if traffic is bad." I say with a grateful attitude in my tone "Thanks. I kinda got lost so I'm glad to know I'm not too far away from where I need to go." The man nods and goes back to clean some dishes. Ok. Well, I should stay clear of New York City.
As I muse with my thoughts my eyes spot the TV playing some news report about something happening in Latveria. I'm really in the Marvel Universe. I hope the x men are in the mansion and not Krakoa or whatever. I'd rather not be in the plots of Moria or creepy Xavier. I say to the bartender "Can I get a glass of water please." He nods and hands me a glass of water. I quickly drink my water and head outside.
I need to get a car and just pick a destination to go to. Once I'm outside I see a Target across the road. Well, that's either luck or fate. Let's roll with luck for now. As I head to the parking lot I pick up some pebbles on the ground. Let's see if there are any cameras. My eyes survey the many lights and I catch a jeep that looks like it was made during the early 2000s. Infor that I can only assume came from Gambit's knowledge of how to hotwire the car fills my head. Let's see if there is a camera watching it. My azure eyes land on a camera that may get a look at the jeep so I use my new power to put some power in the pubble. I see a blue glow take in and I throw it. Once it made contact with the camera it made a small pop and I saw the camera had been destroyed.
Alright, I then quickly head to the jeep and put my hands into my pocket. It seems each of these coats had some tools put in them for thieving. If I ever meet you, Remy, I'll buy you a drink. Once I get the door opened I then go through the process of hotwiring the car. As I make the wires spark I hear the roar of an engine. A smile graces my lips as I close the door. Alright time to blow this popsicle stand.
I put the car in drive and drove out. Once I make a distance from the scene of the crime I put the radio on and a soft voice fills the car "That was the Astronomy by Blue Oyster Cult. So I wanna talk about some news that has been spreading around. So the Avengers have changed their roster once again. Seems they can't keep a consent team list for more than a few months. Some more news is that a terrorist mutant hate group has been causing some problems in the south it seems. I know it's some bleak news but it's still good to inform some people about this. You never know how bad ignorance is till it hits you in the face. Okay, let's play some more music for you all."

A smirk graces my face as the song plays. I bob my head to the beat and watch the road as I just drive to where my heart takes me. Before I could get to the middle of the song I saw a bright light in the rearview mirror. It's a big pickup truck that has been jacked to be taller with some flag flapping behind it. If it's a Confederate flag I'm going to wonder if I got stuck in the stereotypical South and not the real one. It changes lanes to get ahead of me and I get a good look at the flag. It's a burning cross that makes my mind go back to a comic I read.
The Purifiers. A group that is connected to the Stryker family. They are never up to any good. Do I follow them or just leave them to other heroes? Wait, I don't have a phone to call them or a number I even know. Do they have a number? Well, the school must have one. If the school is still open. Fuck it I'm following them.
I can't let these guys do whatever they have planned. They use excuses to do evil and I can't stand by while they do whatever they have planned. Once I set my mind to follow them I use the knowledge that is from Gambit to do so. How much of his skills were left in my head? Why is it only coming up when I need it? It is like riding a bike? I'll just know when I need to use it. Sadly my mind that is filled with questions doesn't get answered any time soon.
The truck makes a turn off the normal road to a dirt one. I look to see a massive farm off in the distance. It seems I was following them for a bit since I'm now in the middle of nowhere. I keep driving to find a place to park the car.
Once I find a big tree near the road I turn the lights off and park the car. Okay, Sylvester. You only have a deck of playing cards, a few coins, and what is in this car. Wait, I should do a good search of the car. I open the glove compartment and find some papers with a knife. Okay, that's good. I then search the back to find only a tire iron and some empty bottles. I can use these.
Once I'm done getting all I can use, I quietly make my way to the farm. Thankfully they had very overgrown wheat leading to the farm. Okay, just soft steps before you move. As I try not to make a lot of noise, I find a small clearing in the middle of the wheat area. It seems to have been cleared not long ago. A metal cage you would find in a circus in said clearing. I look around to not see anyone nearby. Who the hell are they keeping here? I approach the cage slowly. With grace, I didn't know I had arrived at my destination to find someone sleeping in the cage. They look to be the size of a child. I suppress my instinct to try and shed light on them.
I whisper "Hey wake up." They softly move and turn to me. With my eyes having adjusted to the dark I see his eyes. They are only yellow with no pupils to see. His name is Leech. He was the first person I ever befriended in this world. I say "Hey kid." He looks at me and says "You are not one of them. Leech remembers the faces of the ones who took Leech's friends." I nod and say "Yeah. I'm here to stop whatever they got planned but seems this turned into a rescue mission."
I take out my lock-picking tools and work on the cage's lock. Leech looks at me and says with curiosity in his voice "You have eyes similar to Gambit. Are you his brother?" Right, my eyes must stand out even in the dark. A grin takes my face as I say "Kinda. Let's just say he and I may need to talk one day about who we are to each other. Till then I got to save you and your friends." As I say this I get the door open and quietly open the door. Leech crawls out and I give him a toothy grin.
"Okay you need to stay back here and if the worst comes then you run and find some help ok." Leech shakes his head and says "No. Leech will not abandon friends. Leech needs to help." I look him in the eyes. Maybe it's just me projecting my idea or maybe I could read his eyes but I could tell regardless of what I said he would not run. We might be fools but maybe these guys need some fools to save them.
I sigh with frustration evident in my voice "OK but you must do what I ask. Ok?" Leech nods and I motion for us both to sneak up to the end of the wheat line. I see some big light posts illuminating a giant area behind the house. About five guards patrolling outside the house and farm. If I was a betting boy I'd bet they are at the place behind the house or in a renovated basement. I motion for Leech to follow me as we stay at the edge of the wheat field. I finally get a look at the weapons they are holding.
Some have automatic weapons like an assault rifle and a few shotguns in the mix. Okay, I can't go in close with those guys. Once we reach the corner of the wheat field I see the back of the house now. A lot of cages like the one leech was in with a lot of people in them. Some look normal while others have more obvious mutations. About fourteen in total. Almost all of them besides maybe one or two have collars on them. They must have only a few collars. Leech taps my shoulder and he points to a lot of the trucks they have. An awful thought enters my mind. Yes. I turn to Leech and say "Okay here is the plan-."
A few minutes later
Okay, all I need to do i charge up a tuck to explode or just a part of it. I grab a handful of coins and look to see if the coast is clear. No one in sight. I make my way to one of the trucks parked to find the gas cap. I open it up and put the now-charged coins in the cap. I close it and run to hide. Now if I timed this ri-. A giant explosion rings out and I see the truck burst into flames. Ok, I may have overcharged those coins a bit too much. My eyes go to see all the bad guys making their way to the burning truck. If this went right Leech would have enough time to get some help from the other captives. I yell out from the darkness " You men claim to be doing the lord's work but instead, you do the work of a racist madman. If anyone has a shred of humanity left I command you to leave this unholy crusade on your fellow man."
I duck behind a tree as I hear gunfire roar out behind me. Okay, that didn't work. I take out a card and look at it. It's the Joker card. I charge it up and poke my head out of my cover. Almost like my mind slowed everything down when I did so. Bullets flying past me and going everywhere. I see about twenty people have made it their goal to shoot me. I see about five have them grouped up close enough for my charged-up card to stop them. I throw the card and see it fly through the air. I never have once in this life or the one before thrown a card as well as I just did.
I see the card make contact with the gun of one of the gunmen and watch it explode the gun. The five are scattered from the blast and I don't miss a beat to grab more cards to charge up. Almost like some autopilot has taken over to fight these men. I sling card after card to get these madmen to stop firing on me. I hope Leech got someone to help me fight these guys. I go back to cover and I go to feel how many cards I have. It seems I only have about four left.
Leech
Leech waited for the distraction that friend Gambit's brother said he would cause. As Leech hears the giant explosion Leech waits for the badmen to go over to see what is happening. They rush to the distraction and Leech rushes to the cages with the objects Gambit's brother gave Leech. As Leech hears the gunfire Leech makes it to some of the cages. Gambit's brother said to find one that can help him fight. Leech knows which one.
Leech looks over the many cages to find friend Sunspot. He is looking towards the distraction and Leech rushes there. He spots me and whispers "Leech! Oh thank heavens you got the keys or something." I reach him and hand him the tire iron and knife. He sighs and says "You're lucky I was trained to lockpick with a knife." Leech watches him mess with those collars that make Leech's head hurt when wearing them. The collar pops off his neck and he powers up. Sunspot says "Okay. So let me guess that the one those hicks are shooting at is the one that is helping us."
Leech nods and Sunpost sighs. He says "Alright then. Here take this and see if you can free the others." Sunspost drops the knife near Leech and flies off to help Gambit's brother.
Sylvester
I rush to another tree as bullets whiz past me. My breath is heavy as I keep rummaging through my coat to find anything that I can spare to charge up. I find one last quarter in my pocket. I hope I have enough juice to charge this up. Breath. In and out. Let your mind focus on the task. I go out of cover to throw my coin but my eyes go to a flying glowing man. Is that Sunspot? Before I could have another thought I get knocked down to the ground. I feel a deep pain in my shoulder. I can feel the blood pumping out of my wound. Fuck I got shot. Okay, don't stand still when getting shot at. I'll keep that one in mind.
After hearing a blast and bodies getting thrown around I get the strength to sit up. My hagged breath and loud heartbeat almost make it hard to focus on anything. "Shit man. I'd ask if you are ok but that seems like a stupid question." I look to see Roberto whatever his last name is standing in front of me. He is powered down and is wearing a messy suit. I say with sarcasm evident "No I'm having the time of my life. I honestly recommend everyone to get shot at least once." Roberto laughs and helps me up to my feet.
I put some weight on him as he grabs my noninjured shoulder. He says "You got jokes. Nice. Well, let's go and get the others. If this is like all evil groups they have some more around here." I nod and see the ones that shoot at me are all on the ground. None of their weapons are intact and I see a lot more of the prisoners are out. A smile takes my face as I just realize that I just did what superheroes do. It seems that some of the ones with combat abilities are rounding up the other Purifiers. I say "Hey I kind of don't have a plan anymore. You got any idea what to do with those asshats?"
Roberto laughs and says "Yeah I got someone I can call." I see Leech run towards me and say "Your plan worked. All of Leech's friends are free." His grin is infectious as I find myself smiling in kind. I say "Hey I like to keep my promises." Roberto lets me down as I take a sit. He says "Hey I never got your name Gambit mini me." I sigh and before I give him my name I think. If I want to keep doing this whole hero thing I'll need a name. It takes a minute but I think of one. I say "My name is Sylvester LeBeau and my mutant name is The Fool. Yes, I am a clone of Gambit and No he doesn't know about it. Nice to meet you guys." Leech smiles more and says "Nice to meet you friend Fool."
A chuckle rises from me and I say " Hell of a first day."
