Goblin Slayer: Survivor
Chapter Five
The next day, Goblin Slayer nodded to Fighter as they passed each other in the usually busy guild building.
To be honest, Fighter had... mixed feelings about Goblin Slayer. YES she was thankful he saved her. And all the others he had rescued, or in many cases avenged. But there was a tiny part of her that wished he'd been a BIT faster in saving her...
"Goblin Slayer!" Guild Girl smiled.
"Are there goblin quests?" Goblin Slayer asked briskly.
"Several," Guild Girl admitted, taking out the papers.
"I can not take all of them," Goblin Slayer admitted, there being too many requests for one party to handle.
Several adventurers sort of shuffled away, unwilling to take the jobs.
Fighter exchanged a look with her party members, who nodded reluctantly. "Let me see," Fighter said. She looked through the remaining requests, "These two are close to each other. Might even be the same goblins."
"You'll take the quests?" Guild Girl asked.
"Yes," Fighter sighed.
"Thank you so much," Guild Girl smiled.
"Hmm," Goblin Slayer nodded, striding off as Priestess and the others joined him.
"Right," Fighter sighed, "we should go too."
"I'm coming too!" Advanced Novice called.
"You got permission from Senior Sister to become an adventurer?" Beginner Knight asked her a bit warily.
Advanced Novice held out her Porcelain Guild Tags.
"Well, she CAN use healing spells twice a day," Rhea Dagger noted, the woman standing up for her new friend.
Novice Archer added, "And you DID say we needed a Priest."
"Okay, you can go," Fighter conceded.
"Hurrah!" Advanced Novice cheered.
"But BE CAREFUL. Goblin quests are dangerous," Fighter added.
"Don't leave me!" Junior Mage hurried over then he tripped on his robe, faceplanting. "Oww!" the gangly boy yelped.
Fighter just sighed.

"I notice Fighter's group has expanded," Dwarf Shaman noted cheerfully as the party hurried to catch a wagon to the fish quest location.
"Advanced Novice apparently REALLY likes Fighter," Priestess noted, amused.
No one, interestingly, had any issues with that. The various gods and such of their world had no issues about same sex relations.
"And Junior Mage. He's... kind of inept," High Elf Archer added with a chuckle.
"He does have two spells a day," Lizard Priest shrugged, "And we all started out rather green, too."
"Hmm," Goblin Slayer grunted.
"I think Fighter will do her best to take care of them," Priestess said cheerfully.
"She takes on much responsibility for her party," Lizard Priest mused, "I hope she remembers to take care of herself."
"She DOES seem the type to carry a lot on her shoulders," High Elf Archer agreed.
Noting that Goblin Slayer was just staring out at the scenery, Dwarf Shaman asked him, "So, which goblin attack is first?"
"They are encamped in an abandoned village," Goblin Slayer noted gruffly.
Priestess was well aware it probably reminded him on what happened to his sister. However, as usual, he carried on.
"I expect a lot of them, too," Dwarf Shaman noted.
"Yes," Goblin Slayer agreed, "we'll either need to draw out smaller groups, or attempt a wider ranging attack."
"You're going to burn the village down, aren't you?" High Elf Archer sighed.
"Or flood it," Priestess added, well aware of his usual tactics.
"Yes?" Goblin Slayer admitted.
"NORMAL ADVENTURERS DON'T DO THAT!" High Elf Archer groaned.
Goblin Slayer just shrugged awkwardly.

"We should totally have flooded them!" Fighter complained.
Novice Archer gave her a LOOK.
"Or burned them out!" Fighter bitched.
"Ordinary adventurers don't think like that," Beginner Knight complained.
They had nearly been overwhelmed by a mob of goblins, driven out of their den by a more powerful monster, a rock troll. The only good news was they had been clumped together enough that Junior Mage's fireball spell had been really effective.
Now they were surrounded by goblin carcasses and were exhausted.
"Hold still!" Advanced Novice ordered as she bandaged Fighter's arm. "Are you SURE I shouldn't use Heal?"
"It's just a cut. Besides, we might need it in an emergency," Fighter noted.
"What do we do about the troll?" Junior Mage asked.
"Get high ranked adventurers," Fighter said firmly.
"Oh thank god," Novice Archer sighed.
Rhea Dagger added, "I thought you'd say we had to fight it."
"I'm not THAT crazy," Fighter defended herself.
EVERYONE just kind of looked at her.
Fighter sighed, "At least we defeated the goblins."
Beginner Knight asked, "So what do we do now?"
"Cut off goblin ears as proof we slayed them," Fighter noted, "and tell the nearby village that the goblins are slain, but there's still a troll. Then go back to the guild."
Novice Archer helped up the exhausted Rhea Dagger, then they fell in with Beginner Knight, and Junior Mage. Advanced Novice stayed close to Fighter and the group hurried to the exit.
Fighter puffed out a relieved sigh as they left the cave, then headed to the town.

"Ha! You could have taken a Rock Troll," one adventurer mocked.
Spearwoman casually smacked him.
"Ow!" he yelped.
"Being smart enough to retreat against a powerful enemy should be praised, not mocked," Spearwoman noted.
"Hmph," the man stalked off.
"Thank you," Beginner Knight nodded to her.
Guild Girl was taking Fighter's report. "Here's the proof we beat the goblins," she handed the bag over, "we informed the village about the Troll, they're sending someone to put in a new quest."
"Thank you for taking on the quest," Guild Girl smiled.
"Do you know anything about the troll?" Heavy Warrior asked them.
Fighter shrugged slightly, "We only caught a glimpse of it, sorry. It was instantly clear it was much strronger than we were, so..."
Heavy Warrior nodded, "Well, trolls usually require Silver and above ranked Adventurers, or multiple teams of lower ranked adventurers. You were wise to retreat."
Female Knight added, "We'll probably take the quest."
"With a few other Silvers for support," Heavy Warrior quickly corrected her. "We don't want to take chances."
Fighter rejoined her party and distributed their earnings. "Thanks," Novice Archer took her share, "are we hedding out agai?"
"It's too late in the day," Fighter noted, them having arrived late in the afternoon. Even adventurers didn't casually travel overnight, especially newer adventurers like them.
"Then we can sleep together!" Advanced Novice glomped Fighter.
"Not in public," Fighter tried to fend her off.
The others looked on in amusewment,
To be continued...?
