Jane shifted slightly in bed, her movements careful not to disturb the sleeping form of her wife beside her. The early morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow on the room as Jane unwrapped her naked form from Maura's embrace. Marcy's stirring signaled the start of another day, and Jane smiled as she reached out to bring their infant daughter back to bed with her.
As she settled into a comfortable position, nursing Marcy while watching Maura's phone buzz with messages, Jane couldn't help but wonder what her wife was up to. She knew Maura wasn't cheating on her—Maura couldn't lie, and the intimacy they shared the night before was proof enough of that. But still, the flurry of early morning messages piqued Jane's curiosity.
Maura stirred slowly, her eyes fluttering open as she noticed Jane's wakefulness. "So you need to get that?" Jane asked, nodding towards Maura's buzzing phone.
Maura sighed, nodding in acknowledgment. "I have to set up an event at Fenway today. My mother has been texting me constantly," she explained, sitting up in bed. She leaned over to kiss Jane's cheek and stroke Marcy's head as a morning greeting. "Will you be okay without me today?"
Jane felt reassured that Maura's busy morning was related to foundation work. She nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "I'll just watch the Sox away game with the boys today."
Maura smiled in return. "Sure, that will be fun."
"Unless Frankie gets a homicide… maybe I'll help him with that?" Jane teased, wiggling her eyebrows mischievously.
"Jane…" Maura warned playfully, though a hint of amusement danced in her eyes.
"You know you want in… working together was fun, wasn't it?" Jane continued, unable to resist teasing her wife.
Maura couldn't help but laugh at Jane's antics. At the sound, Marcy released her hold on Jane's nipple and looked up at her mother, reaching for her long dark hair with tiny hands.
Then Maura's phone buzzed again, causing her to jump slightly. With a quick apology, she slid out of bed and headed towards the shower, leaving Jane and Marcy to enjoy the peaceful morning together.
Jane leaned back on the couch, watching the Red Sox game with her brothers and her nephew, TJ. The atmosphere was relaxed, the familiar sounds of the game filling Angela's living room. However, Jane couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. Every few minutes, Frankie glanced at his phone, the screen lighting up with notifications.
"What's up with you?" Jane finally asked, curiosity getting the better of her.
Frankie grinned sheepishly. "I'm a married man and a new father. Gotta stay on top of things."
Jane's hope for some thrilling work-related news deflated, and she leaned back with a sigh. "Disappointing," she muttered, just as the opposing team hit a home run. She grumbled under her breath, "Should've never left Boston. The Sox have been losers ever since."
Tommy, noticing her mood, turned to her. "You homesick, Jane?"
Jane nodded, her eyes fixed on the TV. "Yeah, I love the home I've made in Virginia, but Boston will always be home."
A few minutes later, Frankie's phone rang. He looked at the caller ID and then at Jane. "Calm down, Hotshot. It's just Nina. She's calling for some emergency diapers."
Jane chuckled, understanding the predicament all too well. "Been there. No fun."
Frankie stood up, pocketing his phone. "I've got to go help her out. Be right back."
Jane sighed as she watched him leave. She resigned herself to a day without her wife and now, without Frankie too.
Outside, Frankie stealthily left Angela's brownstone and headed towards Fenway Park. His real mission: to help Maura with the wedding arrangements. The secret preparations were in full swing, and Frankie was eager to play his part.
At Fenway, Maura was overseeing the setup with meticulous attention to detail. The stadium was being transformed into the perfect wedding venue, a tribute to Jane's lifelong love for the Red Sox.
"Everything's looking great, Maura," Frankie said as he approached her.
Maura turned, smiling. "Thanks, Frankie. I couldn't have done this without you."
"Anything for my sister," Frankie replied warmly. "What's next on the agenda?"
"I have to pick up Jane's dress," Maura said, her excitement palpable. "It's a custom Red Sox jersey dress. The top is a tailored jersey with a long tail over a full white skirt made of tulle. I can't wait to see her face when she gets it."
Frankie grinned. "She's going to love it. You've thought of everything."
"There's one more thing," Maura admitted, her voice softer. "I still haven't given her the engagement ring."
Frankie raised an eyebrow. "The engagement ring? You mean she doesn't have one yet?"
Maura nodded. "I wanted it to be perfect. I've been carrying it around, waiting for the right moment. I think that moment will be at the wedding."
"Sounds like a plan," Frankie said, patting her shoulder. "Now, go get that dress. I'll hold down the fort here."
Back at Angela's house, Jane tried to enjoy the rest of the game, but her mind kept wandering to Maura and what she might be up to. The Sox were having a rough game, and Jane couldn't help but think of how different things felt with her back in Boston, even if just for a visit.
As the game dragged on, Jane decided to step outside for some fresh air. The cool breeze and the familiar sights and sounds of the neighborhood filled her with a bittersweet longing.
"Jane?" Tommy's voice broke her reverie. "You okay?"
Jane nodded, a small smile on her lips. "Yeah, just thinking. I miss this place."
Tommy slung an arm around her shoulders. "We miss you too, sis. But you're here now, and that's what matters."
Jane smiled, feeling a sense of peace wash over her. She was home, surrounded by family, and despite the ups and downs, it felt right.
Meanwhile, Maura made her way to the boutique to pick up Jane's dress. As she laid eyes on the stunning creation, her heart swelled with love and anticipation. The dress was perfect—a blend of Jane's fierce loyalty to the Red Sox and the elegance of a wedding gown.
"Jane is going to love this," Maura whispered to herself, imagining the look on her wife's face when she saw the dress.
With the dress carefully packed, Maura headed back to Fenway, her mind racing with excitement. Soon, everything would be ready, and she could hardly wait to see Jane's reaction to the surprise wedding.
The stage was set, the plans were in motion, and all that remained was for the day to unfold, bringing with it joy, love, and the fulfillment of a dream.
