"I never thought I'd see a pokémon that can rival the size of a Snorlax." Said the white haired man in the white coat.

"The gray and brown fur, moon emblem on its forehead, quite obviously a male."

The bear-like pokémon was currently within a room made of beige wood and transparent materials. Round, silvery objects shone blue light onto the pokémon as he laid atop an elevated platform. The large pokémon was completely surrounded by unfamiliar objects.

He didn't pay it much mind though, calmly laying on the elevated surface, utterly distraught by the carnage he had instigated.

"This mighty creature has been observed for millennia, and yet its scarceness has been a great mystery to even the most profound professors of history."

The blue light seized as the silvery objects retracted beneath the elevated surface the pokémon laid on.

"The most versed documentations we have today were released a few centuries ago, by professor Laventon. It's a misfortune that those documents are heavily outdated by today's standards."

"What is the name of this species?" Asked a younger man with black hair and brown eyes, brimming with benevolence, curiosity and determination.

The bear-like pokémon's tentatively gazed at the young man.

"According to professor Laventon it is part of the Teddiursa family, and is known as the 'Peat Pokémon', though the actual name of the species is Ursaluna…allegedly."

The young man looked at the one in the coat with a raised brow. "What do you mean 'allegedly'?"

"Even though its previous stages have their own pokédex-entries, and are part of the league's record, Ursaluna have yet to be documented."

"Didn't you already state that there is documented research that proves the creature's existence?"

"I did. The problem is that no professor, or scientist has succeeded in evolving it from its previous stages, nonetheless evolve it with the methods that professor Laventon presents. If its evolution can't be recreated then the league can't determine whether there's a connection between the species or not."

"Then how come its existence isn't even documented? Even if you can't prove a relation between species you can still prove the existence of the creature."

"It's likely that we're the first ones to discover and observe it since the league came to be."

"How? We can't possibly be the first ones, right?"

"It's very possible. The proposed item for its evolution is a peat block, an ancient item so rare that even the ancestors of our ancestors had trouble finding them. They're so scarce, in fact, that not a single person for the past few millennia has been able to find one. The only proof we have of its existence is professor Laventon's documentation, and a blurry picture of what it potentially looks like."

"How come they're so rare?"

"Overpopulation of the species. Disintegrated from destructive events. I can only provide a speculative guess, there's no definitive answer, I'm afraid."

The young man sighed deeply, gazing at Ursaluna. "Would it be possible to release it soon?"

The professor stopped what he was doing, staring at the bear-like pokémon. "I'm afraid not, no."

"Why! It clearly doesn't want to be here, why force it to stay?"

"As much as I agree with you, we can't."

"It's done nothing wrong!"

"You didn't see the aftermath of what happened! It brought with itself carnage! Nothing that remained within the forest perimeter survived! And you propose we let it do the same again!"

The bear-like pokémon whimpered, staring off to the side.

"I'm sorry for screaming." Said the professor. "But we can't let the same thing happen twice."

"Don't you find it odd that a fully grown creature only starts rampaging now, when it's most likely resided in the forest for decades. Surely something must have-"

"Andrew!" The professor cut him off, a stern expression on his face. "I appreciate the optimism. But no means no."

Silence hung in the air as the professor turned off his research equipment. He grabbed his mug to find it empty again.

He sighed deeply, "Go get some sleep. It's almost midnight."

He walked past Andrew before glancing back at him, smiling reassuringly. "We'll figure out what we'll do tomorrow." He turned around a corner, turning off most of the hallway lights.

Andrew lingered for multiple minutes, gazing at Ursaluna. He thought back to what happened the previous evening.

Ursaluna was charging at both Andrew and Aluette.

In a surge of adrenaline and fright the fox-like pokémon released a burst of sparkling embers, hitting the bear-like pokémon square in the head.

Ursaluna recoiled as the embers parted, revealing a burn mark directly in the center of his yellow moon emblem.

The Peat Pokémon glared at the two with bloodshot eyes, enraged as red flames engulfed him.

The Peat Pokémon flinched in pain, the flames suddenly subsiding. The pokémon was riled beyond belief as he glared at both Andrew and Aluette.

Ursaluna gave a deafening roar as he charged at the two once more, sharp claws aimed at Aluette.

The fox-like pokémon stood paralyzed in fear, eyes wide as the bear-like pokémon came closer and closer, jumping as it prepared to slash at her.

Andrew swooped her up within the nick of time as the Peat Pokémon landed where they once stood.

The bear-like pokémon prepared to strike yet again, but flinched as he was engulfed in flames once more.

Aluette jumped from Andrew's grasp, slowly approaching Ursaluna as he fell to the ground in a weakened state.

"Aluette wait!" Andrew shouted as she sniffed the much larger pokémon.

The Peat Pokémon arose vigorously, using his facade to strike vehemently.

Aluette avoided the attack, instinctively firing more embers at the pokémon.

The Peat Pokémon was largely unfazed by her attack, but flinched yet again as flames engulfed him shortly after.

The bear-like pokémon's dissonant roar pierced her ears as the flames around the larger pokémon subsided.

The Peat Pokémon rushed headlong at Aluette. She didn't have time to react as the larger pokémon vehemently flung her a few meters away, skimming across the ground before stopping a ways away from Andrew.

"Aluette!"

She laid unmoving on the ground, covered in cuts and bruises all over her begrimed body.

Ursaluna was engulfed in flames once more before charging at Andrew, flames dispersing as he rushed headlong at the young man.

Andrew felt around within his pocket. What else was he supposed to do? He couldn't just let the pokémon run rampant and potentially hurt somebody else. And he couldn't face the pokémon with his own bare hands either. This was the only thing he could do.

The young man drew his hand from his pocket, retrieving the red and white ball from before. He wasn't certain on what would happen, but he remained hopeful as he threw the sphere at the bear-like pokémon.

The red and white sphere flew up into the air upon hitting Ursaluna. The object opened, releasing a shimmering beam of blue and white light, following an undetermined trail as it reached the pokémon.

The Peat Pokémon shone blue, turning transparent as the beam's path straightened. Ursaluna coalesced with the beam as it retracted back into the sphere, closing as it fell towards the ground.

Andrew silently observed as the ball shook within the grass, the white button in the center of the sphere blinking red.

The red and white ball shook once more, the white button blinking red again.

Andrew felt sweat trickling down his forehead as he nervously gazed at the shaking sphere.

The sphere shook yet again, the red light boring into Andrew's soul.

He grabbed a nearby stick, holding it over his tensed shoulder.

An audible pop broke the silence in the air as sparkles flew out of the sphere.

Andrew warily approached the sphere, poking it with the stick. He sighed, relieved as the sphere hadn't budged in the slightest.

"Aipom!" Heavy breathing accompanied the purple monkey's shout as it approached Andrew.

"You…good, lad?" Said professor Rowan, taking deep breaths every other word.

"Yeah, I'm fine."

"Thank…the Alpha…Pokémon."

The professor directed his attention to the monkey pokémon. "Don't…you dare… for the love…of Arceus…ever…make me…run like that…again."

"Aipom!" It shouted, a mischievous grin plastered on its face.

The professor spotted the fox-like pokémon laying on the ground. "Fenne-kin!" He shouted, eyes wide. "We…have to-get her to my lab…now. Her…condition…seems critical."

"On it!" Said the young man, picking up the abused pokémon, and running in the direction of Rowan's laboratory, the Aipom close behind.

"Does it ever…hurt to walk-to your…destination?" Said the professor, jogging a ways away from the others.

Andrew had long since moved to the laboratory clinic.

He was currently sitting next to the unconscious Aluette (Who laid on a stretcher, bandages and band-aids covering her body), reading through files about her species.

The first file was labeled: '#0653, The Fox Pokémon'.

Opening the file revealed a paper with a title reading: 'Fennekin'. The rest of the page was covered with a diagram of the Pokémon, displaying its skeletal structure, muscle tissues and detailed information on its various organs.

The anatomy was almost exactly as expected of a living, breathing creature. What intrigued Andrew was the inclusion of what he could discern to be a heatsack.

He'd brought a document detailing the various purposes of the organ: 'The thermalregulation gland serves to regulate the Pokémon's internal temperature to an appropriate degree. It also serves to ignite the flames of the Pokémon's next attack. Younger Pokémon might struggle to control the gland at times during involuntary actions, such as sneezes, burps and, for certain Pokémon (i.e. #0390, #0391 and #0392), farts.'

He moved on to the next page of the file, its title read: 'Pokémon Data'. Below was listed various information on the Pokémon, such as its national number (#0653), local number (#0168), its species classification, the average height, the average weight, its abilities (which he had a document to explain, but was unable to decipher it for the time being) and its typing.

The types intrigued him the most. He'd found scientific documentations on type matchups, and ones detailing what determines a Pokémon's type. But he'd also found philosophical books exploring the reasons for why the human race has no interaction with any of the, currently proven, eighteen types. He'd even found ethical and political texts and speeches justifying why certain types are given as 'starters' when others aren't.

He'd memorized the eighteen types and their interactions in just under half an hour, and learnt how to determine the typings of grass, fire and water within three hours.

He flipped to the next page in the file, with its title reading: 'Dex Entry'.

Beneath the title read: 'It prefers to have something to chew on, resorting to munch on twigs in place of a snack. This Pokémon intimidates its foes by puffing hot air out of its ears. Its ears vent air hotter than two hundred degrees celsius when its body overheats.'

He had no particular interest in the rest of the file. He picked up the next file, labeled: '#0654, The Fox Pokémon'.

He opened the file to reveal another title, reading: 'Braixen'. This page also displayed anatomical diagrams of a Pokémon. Though this Pokémon was far different to the one before.

The previously quadrupedal Pokémon now stood on its hind legs. The white fur on its snout extended down to its arms and chest, covering the cleavage and the nipples of the yellow-furred mounds on its chest. Its yellow fur went down to its voluptuous, wide hips where it flared out in the shape of a skirt, exposing its black-furred thighs. A branch was now placed within its tail.

He moved on to the next page, disregarding the male version of the diagrams. The title read: 'Pokémon Data'. Below was listed information about the Pokémon. It read: 'National №: 0654', 'Local №: 0169', 'Species: Fox Pokémon', 'Height (Female): 1.0 m', 'weight (Female): 18.5 kg', 'Abilities: Blaze', '(Hidden Ability) Magician', 'type: fire.'

His attempts at disregarding the fact that this Pokémon is both short and light enough for him to pick up with his own two hands were futile.

He eventually flipped to the next page though, its title reading: 'Dex Entry'.

Beneath the title read: 'The fur on its tail causes enough friction when drawing its twig to set it alight. It draws circles in the air using its twig to signal its allies of danger. This Pokémon is well known for its debauched nature during heat.'

The young man was suddenly quite interested in the next page labeled: 'Breeding'. He was quickly disappointed however as the page only listed the Pokémon's egg group, egg cycles and gender ratio. Wait, eggs?

Thwarted and slightly dejected he found no interest in reading the rest of the file. He placed it on top of the growing pile of files and documents, precariously stacked atop the nightstand behind him.

His attention renewed when his gaze settled on a book, titled: 'Pokédex'. On the bottom right corner read: 'Professor Laventon'.

Andrew had read a bit on the man a few hours prior. The professor had taken the whole scientific community by storm by revolutionizing their modern version of the Pokédex, and made a name for himself as one of the greatest scientists at the time. His documenting methods were so influential that most of them stuck for scientists across the world for centuries. Even in the modern day the league had to take inspiration from Laventon's work to establish criterias for what makes a documentation conclusive.

The young man held a firm grip on the blue leather cover of the book, placing it in his lap. He felt around the rope that was laced into the book's black spine, rough, hard strings splitting along the length of the interwoven mass.

He carefully grasped the edge of the leather-bound book, flipping the front cover open.

He closely examined the weathered pages of the book, the brown tint showcasing its long exposure to the elements.

He inspected the dark line painted onto the top of the page. On the line read: 'No. 001 Rowlet'. More text was written further to the fight on the line, reading: 'Grass Quill Pokémon'. Next to the Pokémon's classification were symbols of a green leaf and a white wing with text reading: 'GRASS', 'FLYING'.

Beneath the dark line listed its height and weight: '1′, 3.3 lbs.'. It went on to list the Pokémon's preferred food and items it typically liked to carry.

There was also a picture displaying a small, brown owl, its face and lower body white with two green leaves on its throat, resembling a tie.

Andrew's first instinct was to kick the Pokémon like a football. He restrained those thoughts though as he quickly glanced at the text beneath the idle picture. He didn't bother reading it out though as his interest was aimed at a different entry he hoped to find.

He skipped past entry after entry as he searched for the desired Pokémon. 'No. 004', 'No. 007', 'No. 010'. He paid them no mind as he flipped through page after page. 'No. 021', 'No. 042', 'No. 069'.

He eventually stopped, reaching a small, bipedal, orange bear, a beige, crescent moon emblem on its forehead. On the dark painted line read: 'No. 112', 'Teddiursa', 'Little Beat Pokémon', 'NORMAL'.

Andrew didn't bother reading its height, weight, or anything listing items. He started reading the text beneath the picture instead: 'It licks its paws because of the sweet honey that has soaked into them. It is cunning, stealing into the nests of Combee and taking for itself the honey that the Combee have amassed.'

Satisfied he moved on to the next page, the dark line reading: 'No. 113', 'Ursaring', 'Hibernator Pokémon', 'NORMAL'. The picture displayed a much larger, bipedal, orange bear, with a yellow ring on its stomach.

Andrew read the text beneath the picture once more: 'When the cold season arrives in Hisui, this Pokémon will wander fields and mountains alike in search of its favorite berries. Ursaring's hunger during this time makes it a ferocious danger.'

He flipped through one last page, the dark line reading: 'No. 114', 'Ursaluna', 'Peat Pokémon', 'GROUND', 'NORMAL'. The picture displayed a very recognizable sight.

The text beneath the picture read: 'I believe it was Hisui's swampy terrain that gave Ursaluna its burly physique and newfound capacity to manipulate peat at will.'

Maybe he could relate to the league now that he's read the Pokémon's entry. It is quite lackluster when it comes to useful information.

The young man sighed deeply. His clock ticked, causing him to jump slightly. It has had a mind of its own ever since he repaired it.

Andrew glanced at the text once more. It appeared different as he started reading: 'This monster mauls everything in sight. Nothing stands in its way as blood trails its path. Don't run if it spots you. It'll hunt you to your grave, and bury everything you love along with you. Just accept your fate, and let it end you where you stand.'

The picture glared at Andrew with red, bloodshot eyes. The image gave a dissonant roar before jumping at the young man, his vision turning black as the Pokémon engulfed him.

The young man jolted out of his seat, heart racing and hands shaking.

He examined his surroundings. He was still inside the clinic, rays of light streamed through the blinds on the window.

He noticed the absence of Aluette on the stretcher. An immense amount of disappointment washed over him as in her place was the apparition, casually laying down on the operation table, reading the file labeled: '#0654, The Fox Pokémon'.

The apparition turned the file towards Andrew, revealing the page displaying diagrams of the Pokémon.

"You have quite the interest in her species for only viewing her as a friend." It said, throwing the file to the side and jumping off the stretcher.

"At least I have the decency to knock before intruding on somebody's personal space." Said Andrew as the apparition moved to the window, rays of light absorbing into its body. "I thought I'd gotten rid of you already."

"My grasp on you dwindled, yes! But it merely served to shut me out for a short period of time. I'm still here. And still a part of you."

"Just get lost already!"

"Want me gone so bad? Then I suppose you wouldn't want to hear about Aluette's estrous cycles."

Andrew fumed as the apparition laughed.

"We both know she'll change." The apparition stood behind him suddenly, file in its shadowy hand, displaying the voluptuous Fox Pokémon. It whispered in the young man's ear, "Just imagine…her, sprawled out on a bed, black, graceful legs aimed in your direction, waiting pussy revealed beneath her skirt-like fur. Anticipation lingering in her pleading, pink eyes."

The apparition lowered the file, revealing an evolved Aluette on the stretcher, performing the exact actions the apparition described.

A sudden itch made its presence known in Andrew's loins, the apparition nowhere to be seen.

"Pleased moans escaping her muzzle as you thrust your stiff member inside her."

The young man suddenly found himself naked on top of Aluette on the stretcher, vigorously thrusting his twitching member inside of her as her pleased moans reverberated within his ears.

"Submitting to your every action as she begs for your massive cock."

She started salivating, tongue hanging out of her mouth as Andrew sped up, thrusting deeper into her tight, warm cunt.

"Reaching orgasm after orgasm as you indulge in her curvaceous body."

He grabbed hold of one of her large breasts, squeezing and pinching her hardened nipple. His other hand went down to her rear, caressing and squeezing her cheek. She moaned louder, grasping the sheets tightly as she bit her lower lip. Her breathing turned erratic as her cunt tightened around his throbbing member, eyes rolling into the back of her head as her body shivered from her orgasm.

He kept thrusting into her unrelentingly. He pushed his head between her boobs as he thrust even deeper and harder into her, her cute moans carrying even more pleasure than before.

"Begging you to cum inside her as you both indulge in your carnal and romantic passions."

He grabbed hold of her hand, intertwining their fingers as his other hand grasped her hip tightly. He kissed her open mouth, their tongues fighting for dominance as Aluette threw her legs around Andrew's waist.

Andrew won the war between their tongues, exploring her mouth to his heart's content as Aluette scratched at his back.

He withdrew from her mouth eventually, grunting into her ear as he felt his climax approaching. Aluette moaned and whined even louder as she was about to reach her own climax.

He sped up, slamming his hips against hers as they made love to each other.

He slammed their hips together one last time, the tip of his penis reaching her cervix as he came inside her. The feeling of his seed filling her uterus brought Aluette over the edge as she came once more.

"Imagine if this was real. Imagine if she offered herself solely to pleasure you. You might not view selfishness as a desirable trait, but it's an inevitability you have to accept. And we both know that she will treasure that inevitability."

He was clothed once more, Aluette gone from underneath him, in her place was the apparition.

"Had a good time?"

Andrew threw a punch at the apparition, who dispersed into a thick gas before coalescing behind him.

"You're disgusting." Said Andrew, glaring at the apparition.

"You said it yourself. This is your mind. Your imagination. Or are you willing to accept that I'm part of it as well."

"Fuck you!"

"You just did."

Andrew was riled by the minute as the apparition laughed maniacally.

"My mind is not your cove to fester!"

A veil enveloped him as his surroundings disappeared.

"Your hope lies beyond a curtain of misery. A shadow of doubt will always loom over you. There's no place like home, and I've found mine. Andrew."

Andrew's clock ticked as he slowly opened his eyes. The sun hadn't yet risen as he groggily stared out of the window.

He could hardly remember a thing about the dream, puzzling together bits and pieces to remind himself of the conversation he had with the apparition.

"Fenne."

Andrew looked down at the stretcher. Relief washed over him as Aluette was laying on top of it.

His heart fluttered as his brown eyes stared into her pink ones. His stomach churned as a mild discomfort settled in. He pushed those feelings aside though, offering her a bright smile instead.

"Thank God you're awake. You were gone for almost a full day."

Her stomach grumbled. Andrew chuckled as Aluette turned her head in embarrassment.

"I suppose your stomach figured that out for you." Said the young man, grabbing a bowl full of fruit from the nightstand, presenting it to the Fox Pokémon.

She started salivating as she stared at the food. She graciously accepted the bowl before devouring its content.

Andrew chuckled once more, "Hey, careful! You don't wanna choke on it."

The rest of the night transpired uneventfully. The Fox Pokémon had gone back to sleep as the sun shone slightly above the horizon.

The young man had long since indulged himself in more files and documents, currently reading about the red and white sphere (a pokéball he'd read it's called) he had used on Ursaluna just recently.

The inner workings of the apparatus had intrigued the young man. It contained a catalyst that reshaped matter into whichever form, state and density it wished, and yet it had no effect on a Pokémon's DNA, nor any of the cells that comprised the Pokémon.

The contraption that encompassed the catalyst also served the purpose of retaining and maintaining the Pokémon's DNA and cells. In fact it prolonged the aging of them entirely. A Pokémon could theoretically live inside of a pokéball for all eternity (only in theory though as a steady supply of nutrition was still essential for the Pokémon's survival).

The most intriguing part is how a Pokémon still maintains its original form once its exited the sphere.

The simplest way he could put it was that once the Pokémon exits the pokéball its genetic code can still instruct its cells on how the Pokémon should be shaped and function. There is mechanical equipment inside the sphere that helps ensure a guaranteed success rate for the reshaping of the Pokémon, but those functions are entirely too convoluted for even Andrew to wrap his head around, and so he decided not to linger on it.

What intrigued him the most though was the mystery that plagued the minds of the whole scientific community.

The catalyst had the side effect of only interacting with organic material (a mystery in and of itself, but not the main part of the discussion), and the creators of the pokéball had no interest in capturing floral creatures, so they made the contraption only respond upon contact with an animal (the cells of grass type Pokémon are comprised of small amounts of chlorophyll, yes. But their cells are still largely reminiscent of the ones of an animal). The problem is that the pokéball doesn't recognize human beings, which wasn't intended in the original design. This has further spurred the debate on humanities dissimilarities to Pokémon, and this mystery is still present to the modern day, even centuries later.

He decided that he'd had enough reading propaganda and science related topics, and decided to read about the political and ethical side instead.

He decided that it was time for breakfast a few hours later.

He stood within the doorframe of the kitchen as he stared at the professor, sat down at the kitchen table in his recurring morning attire, spruced up with a new mug reading: 'A smile a day keeps the doctor away'. The lack of pants might certainly keep the doctor away.

The professor was suddenly aware of Andrew's presence as he scratched his neck, smiling sheepishly, "I really shouldn't make a habit of this."

"It seems like you already have." Said the young man, taking a seat at the table across from the professor. "I wanna talk about Ursaluna."

Rowan's expression turned solemn as he sighed deeply. "Andrew. I told you yesterday. We can't let it roam freely in the wild. The league won't allow it." He brought his mug up to his lips.

"And that's where you're wrong."

The professor halted his actions, placing his mug down on the table as his focus fixated on the young man.

"They won't let us release him immediately. But I have certain privileges at my disposal that'll force the league to yield."

"I've already contacted the authorities, and they've already concluded that he's to be taken into custody for disciplinary tuition. I'm sorry lad, but we can't revolt against the current regiment."

"No, but we can conform to it."

"And how do you propose that we obey according to the league's conduct without berating the constitution?"

"I'm the certified legal owner of him, seeing as I caught him. That gives me the freedom of appraising and disciplining his behavior."

"The league can still take your Pokémon by force if it acts upon unprovoked aggression under your ownership."

"'When' under my ownership. The events that occurred before its capture are irrelevant."

"Please Andrew, think through this. You'll be held liable for his every action."

"The twenty eighth amendment revokes my liability for the first month of ownership, so long as he doesn't act upon my accord."

"He's not registered in your pokédex, since you don't have one. You have to become a trainer if you wish to claim him as your Pokémon."

"You'd know a lot about that, wouldn't you."

"I can't just claim that you're a trainer Andrew, it's not that simple."

The young man threw his registration card onto the table. "You're the region's professor. Your responsibility is to bring about the next generation of trainers."

Sweat trickled down the professor's forehead, "We're out of starters."

"You're obligated to provide me with an alternative."

"We're out of alternatives as well."

"With one week left of starter selection? Doubt it."

"I really mean it, there's not a single one left, and it's gonna take at least three days for more to arrive. Ursaluna will be long gone by that point."

"Aluette's upstairs."

"Fennekin? I received her for research purposes."

"She's still an alternative option, isn't she?"

Rowan stared into the young man's eyes, burning with determination as they stared back at his.

The professor sighed deeply once more, "You certain you want to do this?"

"Absolutely."

"And you do want Fennekin as your starter?"

"Without a shadow of a doubt."
