Chapter Seven: "You Are My Enemy"
Jason soon arrives to the chamber of Mundus.
He finds Mundus himself was sitting in his desk chair, facing the Hell Gate as he passively draws energy from it.
Jason saw that he stylized it like it was a painting with a golden frame and demonic things attached to it, including two Harpies, one on each side.
Mundus heard Jason approach and asked him a question, "Why did you kill my child?", still sitting in his chair, looking to the Hell Gate. At Jason's silence, he swiftly stands fro his chair and looks to Jason, "I will ask you again. Why did you kill my child?"
"Because you killed my mother", Jason answers him.
"Ah. So it was revenge. I see", Mundus nods as he walks around his desk.
"It was more than that", Jason denied.
"Oh?", drawing Mundus' curiosity.
"It was for freedom", Jason shared.
"Freedom?", Mundus loudly asks before saying, "Well, you seem to have all the freedom you need. The freedom to murder my heir.", taking a step to Jason.
"I'm not talking about my freedom", Jason specified, "I'm talking about mankind's".
"Mankind", Mundus smiled humorously, "What would mankind do with freedom you suppose?", walking to the very front of his desk before Jason. At Jason's silence, Mundus continued, "Because when I arrived, they had it. And what do you think they did with it?", he looks directly at Jason, "They fought. They killed. They starved", he looks out the windows, "I brought prosperity. I brought structure", He looks back to Jason, "An what have you brought? Besides, violence. War. Death!", taunting Jason for his actions.
Vergil looked down the hall to the chamber from around a corner, waiting, "Come on, Dante... Get. Him. Pissed!"
Jason realized what he had to do, "You know what Mundus? You're right, it wasn't for mankind. It was - It was for revenge", he begins to walk to Mundus, "I get to tell ya - killing your child like that, watching it explode into little wet chunks, hearing you scream like one of your little demon bitches!", he stands before the steaming demon king, "Princeless"
"RAH!", Mundus exclaims in anger as he unleashes and energy wave that send s Jason flying back down the hall into the vault room.
Jason gets up and sees Vergil kneeling off to the side before turning back to the chamber to see Mundus practically flying out him and tackles him. They fly out of Silver Sacks Tower, both yelling as they fall through the air, crashing through flying debri, before smashing into the roof of a random building.
Mundus then throws Jason out from the rubble onto the edge. Mundus stalks to him before grabbing into his chest, his fingers digging into Jason's pecs and ribs. Jason struggled to stop his hands from digging in, but it was to no avail.
"I'm going to make you watch me, while I eat your beating heart", Mundus growls at him, causing Jason to flash back to his mother's own death.
Vergil had arrived to the now empty chamber, "OK, let's shut this thing down", he jumps onto Mundus' desk and holds Yamato to the Hell Gate
Jason struggled with Mundus' grip, so he focused on his thumbs and began pulling back, bending them out and way from his chest. Mundus still powered through it to try and rip Jason's ribcage open.
The Hell Gate's energy flowed around the Yamato as Vergil heard a powering down sound, before a burst of energy came from Silver Sacks Tower as the Hell Gate closed.
Mundus eyes widen and he abruptly turns to the tower as he realized what happened, "The Hell Gate...", he then looks around the city to see Limbo collapsing into the human world.
The truth of his propaganda was being exposed as people could now see the real signs, like that the hunk on the Virility sign was actually a fat slob. Demons also began to appear before the humans, who ran away in terror or were to stunned by the horror.
"What have you done?!", Mundus demands of Jason, unknowing of Vergil teleporting behind him till yamato pierced through his back and out his chest, "GAH!".
"Leave my brother alone", Vergil commands before ripping Yamato from the demon's back.
With Mundus injured, Jason was able to force his hands off his chest. He then spun them around and throw Mundus off the edge of the roof. Jason then spat a wad of spit after him. Mundus fell dozens of stories before landing on a car, the spit soon landing on his face right after.
"You ok Dante?", Vergil asks his brother.
"Yeah", Jason replies as the finger holes have already healed, "You took your time", he snarked.
"Your welcome", Vergil responded.
Unknown to either yet, the car Mundus landed on began to cave in around him as more of the environment was also getting pulled to him as though he was a black hole. Citizens ran as others got pulled in along with building for this amalgamation.
It soon rose up to reveal a oily black behemoth with red energy from its chest as debri stuck out from it. it looked up and roared as it revealed to have three red eyes like a triangular constellation.
The brothers look to the edge at the roar to see this monstrous Mundus rise up to look at them, debri still flying to this form.
"Two Nephalem?", Mundus questions as he looks at the twins, "Two Sons of Sparda?
"You ready for this?", Vergil asks his brother as they stare up to the demon king in defiance.
Jason looks to Vergil, "We can kill him now?".
"The Hell Gate is shut", Vergil states.
Mundus' new Golem form hovers over them, "You will die!"
"NEVER!", Vergil yells at him before asking Jason, "Any ideas?"
"See that eye of his?", Jason says gesturing to the third eye on what would be Mundus' forehead.
"Yes", Vergil confirmed as he saw it.
"His demon child had something like that", Jason informs him, ignoring Mundus as he was doing some kind of speech, "We start there".
"We'll have to get it open", Vergil comments, as debri was covering most of it.
"I am Mundus", Mundus had stated as they finished planning for now.
"YOU'RE AN ASSHOLE!", Jason yells back.
Mundus is angered and goes to punch them down through the whole building with his right fist.
"Keep him busy. I'll try and get the eye exposed", Vergil yells to Jason before they both dive away from the punch. As Mundus retracts his hand, Vergil looks to Jason, "Don't attack him, just stay alive till I expose his eye", before he summons a bluish-white astral longsword, a Mirage Blade, and telekinetically throws it at Mundus' face.
Mundus summons more buildings to his right fist to reform it before swiping under the roof of the building Jason and Vergil were on with his left hand.
Vergil had already teleported away while Jason slide down the falling roof before Angel Lifting and Boosts to another roof. Jason looks to the other side of Mundus to see Vergil throwing several Mirage Blades at Mundus. Mundus elbows the building, sending Vergil flying onto his back.
Mundus goes for a direct attack on Vergil, wo cries out to his brother, "Dante - Do Something!"
Jason goes Angel Trigger. It doesn't cause Mundus to float or anything like the smaller demons, but he does slowdown for a moment, allowing Vergil to launch a Mirage Blade directly the third eye, violently knocking Mundus back as the demon kind grabs at his eye.
Mundus' right hand lands on the roof Jason's on and Vergil launches some Mirage Blades along the arm to Mundus' face.
"Now Dante, get the eye!", Vergil yells to him.
Jason Angel Lifts along the handles of the Mirage Blades till hitting some Boost Rings and getting right before Mundus' face. Jason then Demon Pulls the third eye, sending cars and debri flying out his face. jason jumps along them to get in close and equips Eryx and dives into the behemoth's face.
Mundus rips him out and tosses him into a building, knocking Jason out of Angel Trigger.
Jason then fell down the side of the building in a daze before Vergil teleport tackles him into the building, through glass.
The brothers roughly land on the floor, Vergil on his knees and Jason on his back. Vergil then helps his brother up.
"Good save", Jason gives kudos to his twin.
"Look", Vergil says to Dante as they look to the Mundus Golem, "He's showing cracks", seeing how broken the form is before noticing something, "Dante, do you see that?", gesturing to the behemoth's chest.
"Yeah I see it. He's still in there.", Jason says as he sees the body of Kyle Ryder, Mundus' Vessel. He was colored reddish-black with glowing blue markings all over, his mouth and eyes matching that glow.
Vergil looks to him, "We need to get in there, and kill him", they turn around to go through the building, "Come on, let's go!"
Jason Demon Pulls a car that was somehow in the doorway and it flies out beside them. They head on through and into a hallway. The brothers run up to a boarded up double-doors and Vergil kicks it open. they then run forward into a hall marked 'EXIT' and stop at the windows to see Mundus Golem lumbering around outside, looking for them.
"Why was his body in there?", Jason asks Vergil.
"Mundus has merged with his human vessel. That's why he's protecting it!", Vergil theorized.
"So if we kill Ryder...", Jason begins.
"We kill Mundus!", Vergil finishes.
They continue forward with Jason Demon Pulling a train car out from the building and it falls out from the building. The brother run down the collapsed hallway to another boarded up door that Vergil also kicks down.
The brothers then turn right as they hit the corner the building and approach a point that Jason could smash through with Eryx into a hall and he then cuts through a door with Arbiter into an abandoned office space.
As the brothers enter the room, Mundus spots them through the windows. He swipes at the building, giving him more opening to attack the brothers. He then begins to breath in a vortex as the brothers are unable to fight it.
"Oh no!", Jason yells out before seeing his brother lose his footing, "Vergil!", he tries to grab him but it's too late and he flies into the chest of the Golem, "NOOOOOO!", before his brother is then grabbed by Ryder to keep him there as they sink into the chest.
Jason gets to his feet and yells in rage at the behemoth. As Mundus looks to him, Jason demands, "What have you done to him?!"
Mundus answers with a roar before spewing lava onto the floor he was on. Jason quickly Angel Lifts off the building and Angel Boosts to an other building's rooftop.
Jason jumps away as Mundus throws another downward punch. The blow from it sending a shockwave along the rooftop. Jason Angel Lifts to the fist and cuts into it with Arbiter. Mundus rears back for a two fist smash onto the building and Jason jumps over the dual shockwaves before Angel Lifting to the same right hand as before and cuts into it again.
Mundus then did three quick strikes with his right hand, he bouncing off the roof while Jason evades. Mundus then launched a fiery orb of debri at him that Jason easily evades as well. Mundus goes for another hit with his right hand at the roof and Jason jumps over the shockwave and Angel Lifts to the hand before slashing into it with Arbiter again.
This time, the arm began to fall way to it was completely gone, leaving the Mundus Golem with only his left hand.
Mundus leans in close after the reel back and Jason Demon Pulls his right eye. the right socket warps out as the demon king roars in pain. Jason could briefly see Vergil fighting the vessel before they vanished within the chest again.
Mundus then comes in and sprays the rooftop with lava from his mouth, causing Jason to Angel Lift and Boost to the right to another rooftop.
Mundus had turned to the building and hit downward with his remaining hand. Jason again jumps over the shockwave and Angel Lifts to the hand, slicing into it with Arbiter to Mundus pulls it away.
Mundus launches another orb at him that Jason evades again. He then hits at the rooftop again and Jason Angel Lifts to it and slashes it again. Orb and Fist, this process repeated till Jason destroys the left arm like he did the right one.
Mundus does the same actions again, allowing Jason to Demon Pull the left eye. Again, Jason briefly sees Vergil fighting the vessel of Mundus before the Golem refocused on Jason.
The Mundus Golem launches another orb that Jason again evades and then leans in close to roar at Jason. Jason Angel Lifts to its mouth and begins slashing around it with Osiris. This process repeats till Jason has enough and upcuts the face with his bare hands.
Jason then Angel Lifts into the Golem's chest cavity where Vergil and the vessel were. Vergil sees his brother approaching and kicks away from the vessel. The vessel turns to see Jason zoom passed it as he slices across its chest with Rebellion.
The vessel releases a scream as energy bursts from it while Jason dives to his brother, grasping his arm as they fell through the Golem to the ground. The Golem of Mundus begins to fall apart till it collapses to the ground.
The Sons of Sparda separated when they landed but soon reunite on the street with collapsed buildings around them, save for a strip joint of all things.
"We did it", Vergil says to his brother that stands right before him.
"I did it", Jason corrects, causing Vergil to snort before they both laughed. The brothers looked to the Golem corpse that was slowly disappearing as the brothers clasp each other's shoulders in celebration.
The brother's go to retrieve Kat, who was looking on social media to see the world's reaction to demon amongst them, along with videos of the Justice League and other heroes fighting off the demons that walk the streets.
Soon after, the trio walk onto a plateau overlooking the freed city
"What's happening?", Kat asks due to the state of things.
"Limbo has collapsed into the real world", Vergil shares with her, "What was once hidden is now laid bare for all to see. Revolution is in the air", he smiles to her.
"What about all the demons?", Jason asks aloud.
"Weaker ones like Stygians and the like will be able to cross over from the Demon Realm", Vergil suggests, "But the stronger ones will have a hard time without help from summoners or lesser hellgates."
"So its the beginning of the end for demons. Mankind will be free", Jason says.
Vergil briefly looks from Jason and Kat, "Yes, free from the demons", he smirks, "The path is clear for us to rule."
Kat and Jason turn to him in alarm, as though they didn't hear him right.
"What did you just say?", Jason asks his brother.
"The path is clear for us to rule", Vergil repeats, his brows furrowed some in confusion at the question as he looked at Jason.
"...to rule what?", Jason asks for clarification.
"This", Vergil gestures to the horizon, "Everything"
"Vergil?", Kat questions him.
"You mean - like Mundus?", Jason disputes.
"No...", Vergil almost laughs till he sees their faces and goes serious, "No, we will be nothing like Mundus. We'll respect our subjects, not enslave them.
"Subjects?", Kat all but demands an answer.
"... He means you", Jason says to Kat as he walks around her, eyes on Vergil the whole time, "he means humans.", breigly looking to Kat at the word 'humans'.
"I thought we were fighting for freedom!", Kat voiced to Vergil and was met with silence as he looked at her.
Jason had walked away with his backed turned to them, "It was his freedom we were fighting for. Not yours", Jason realized, drawing Vergil's gaze.
"Don't be so simplistic", Vergil declares as he walks to his brother who turns to face him, "Humans are frail", He gestures to Kat, "They are like children. They need protection", he explains as he walks around Jason, "Not just from others, but from themselves!", he stops being Jason, "We, you and I, have saved them".
Jason abruptly turns to Vergil, "You and I saved them?!"
"...Who else?", Vergil asks him.
Jason points to Kat, "A human".
Vergil looks to Kat before turning back to his brother, "Kat was useful, but...", he trailed off as Kat cut in.
"Useful?!", Kat hurtfully asks, insulted and upset at her savior's words.
"Kat saved my life!", Jason loudly tells his brother as his anger rises, "Kat held under torture to keep your existence a secret!", he stalks around his brother as he talks, "Kat led us through the tower to Mundus' lair! We would have failed twenty times over if it weren't for her!".
"Listen!", Vergil demands as Jason stops before him again, "If you can't see the chaos the humans will cause, if you don't want the responsibility of protecting them, then stand aside. I'll rule alone".
Jason then gets in his face, poking his finger into his chest, "I didn't help you destroy Mundus so you could take his place! I can't let you do this, Vergil", lowering his hand.
"And I can't let you stop me, brother", Vergil responded, "Stand aside".
"Don't do this", Jason almost pleads.
"Vergil, please", Kat begs.
Vergil looks to her with rage, "Stay out of this!", and he looks to his brother, resolute.
The two Sons of Sparda continue to stare at each other as they slowly walk to the center of the enclosed plateau they were on. Kat could only get to her knees beside a trash can along the rails.
The two brothers now stand a good few yards from each other. Vergil brings the Yamato before him and grasps it by its hilt. Jason has Rebellion appear on his back and holds onto the black handle of his sword. Both stood ready to draw their blades.
Vergil begins to unsheathe his sword first aas he rushes to Jason with a battle cry. Jason rushed forward with his own battle cry as he swings Rebellion around at his brother.
Both swords clash as the Yamato gets caught on Rebellion at the point where the blade meets the ribcage and arm bone guard.
The clash caused the brothers to spin around each other a little till the blades rebound off one another with an energy reverb as the brothers slide away from each other about twenty feet.
Jason rushes him with Rebellion's Stinger and goes for a Trillion Stab but Vergil parries. Vergil jumps back before rushing with a slash, several air slashes appearing behind him but Jason Angel Evades out of the way.
Angel Evade is a short teleportation fueled by his holy energy. he can do it up to three time sin quick succession. Jason also has Demon Evade that also teleports him short distance but only at the last moment of his enemies attack, but it also temporarily increases his speed and strength a little.
Jason goes for another Stinger with Rebellion before doing a Death Coil. Vergil parries out of it and jumps up before sending down an astral spinning blade that Jason evades before diving down to push Jason back. Jason goes for another Stinger, pushing Vergil back.
Vergil back looks up to Jason and smirks before jumping back into the battle.
Vergil then summons four of his Mirage Blades around him. Jason shoots at them with Ebony and Ivory, something he was trying to avoid doing as he wanted it to be just Rebellion vs Yamato, but if Vergil was going to use the Mirage Blades, Jason would use his beloved pistols.
Vergil had spun around Yamato to shield himself of the bullets. Vergil does another dash that hit Jason this time. He then jumps up to do the astral spinning blade but Jason launched a Drive at him, knocking Vergil out of the air.
Jason decided to use Ophion, Demon Pulling Vergil to him and using Rebellion's Hacker and Death Coil, causing Vergil to tumble onto the ground.
"Sorry, Brother", Jason apologized.
Vergil sheathes his blade, "Don't be", and he turns back to his brother as the battle continues.
Lighting was now striking all around their battle field as if the world was against the two Nephalem brothers fighting.
Jason dashes in with another Stinger before using Hightime and then Aerial Rave. Vergil recovers and summons the four swords to launch at Jason, who shoots them away with his girls before he could.
Jason goes in with another Hacker and sends Vergil back again. Vergil lands with ease and stalks toward his brother with a sinister smirk, made all the more evil as the thunder storm had darken his visage.
Jason goes for another slash but Vergil teleports back into the air before doing a dive kick at Jason. He evades the kick and Trillion Stabs Vergil. Vergil slides back before unleashing three consecutive slashes that launched air blades at Jason, who jumped over the attack.
They clashed a few more times with their blades before Vergil pushes Jason back. And unleashes a slash from his sword that unleashes a field of air cuts around Jason, slicing into him.
Jason recovered and rushed his brother with another Stinger before switching to Death Coil and sending his brother tumbling away once more.
"It's not too late", Jason tells his brother.
Vergil teleports behind Jason, "Yes it is".
Jason swings behind him but Vergil teleports out of the way and around Jason, confusing him, before he appears in front of his brother and palms his chest, sending Jason into a graffitied wall.
Jason looks up to his brother in anger and unconsciously activate his Angel Trigger as he got up off the wall
Vergil was unaffected by the side effects of this transformation but Jason's bower had still increased. As Jason attacked his brother, they dealt more damage to Vergil
His Angel Trigger deactivates as Jason knocks back his brother again.
This time Vergil draws his blade and smiles at Jason before stabbing his sword into the ground and his entire outfit becomes an icy blue color while a very dark blue astral clone spawns from his body.
This is Vergil's Angel Trigger, with his unique power being the clone instead of Jason's proning of enemies.
Jason forced his way into his Angel Trigger once more to continue the battle on fairer terms.
Jason attacked the solo-duo of Vergil and his clone. The clone had all of Vergil's attacks while attacking independently from Vergil himself. When Jason attacked the clone when it switched with Vergil, the attacks wouldn't harm Vergil but would feed into Jason's Angel Trigger making it last longer.
As the battle continued, with its continued use, Jason's Angel Trigger began to change. His jacket had morphed into red astral angel wings that sprouted from his back, his clothes vanished till he was nude, but his body became like that of a mannequin with no genitals or anus. Weirdly, his hair also grew a few inches and flowed like white fire on his head, leading to a red halo.
This is the true form of Angel Trigger.
With his new form, Jason pierced into Vergil's chest. Vergil groans in pain as Jason kept the blade in place. Jason lifts Rebellion to point downward as Vergil drops Yamato. Vergil's body follows the blades movements as he suffers this stab wound while he tries to stop it. Soon, he bent backwards to far and hit the ground as Jason pins him there. He screams in agony as Jason seems to push the blade further down through his body, letting go of the blade and just laying there.
Jason down on his for as though its not his brother while Vergil looks up to Jason in terror.
"Dante...", Kat calls out to him as she hobbles over to them, "Dante, don't kill him. Please", as she sinks to her knees besides them while Jason acts like he doesn't hear her as he glares at Vergil and the blade sinks down another inch, "I'm begging you. Please stop", Jason looks to Kat, "For me". He continues to look at her in thought before looking back down to his battered and bloodied brother pulling out Rebellion from his brother's body and deactivates Angel Trigger.
This reveals his hair was now completely white in his base form with his hair now hanging low to his brow and slightly to his left side (DmC post game standard, without saved spots). His clothes and jacket also returned in their normal state.
The brother's look to each other with tension in the air. Jason places his weapon on his back and it disappears, while Vergil holds his wound.
Jason holds out his right hand down to Vergil, to help him up to his feet. They grasps each other's forearms and flashback to their childhood when Jason would always help Vergil up when they sparred as children.
Jason lifts him up and Vergil gets to his feet. They tensely look in each other's eyes for a second before releasing their hold on each other as Kat gets back to her feet.
"The world is under my protection", Jason declares to his brother.
Vergil breathes heavily, "You've chosen the wrong side. You're not human, Dante, and you never will be", he looks to Kat as she approaches Jason's side before he goes over and grabs Yamato off the ground. Vergil then slashes the air in a cross shape and a portal opens up. Vergil looks back to Jason who shielded Kat from him and says, "I loved you, brother...", before he stumbles through the portal and disappears.
Jason stumbles as he takes in the weight of what happened, nearly killing his own brother, "I don't know you I am anymore".
Kat puts her hand to his face, drawing his attention to her, "I know exactly who you are... You are Dante. Nothing more and nothing less".
Jason's eyes went to where Vergil had disappeared before they flashed red for a moment. He then turns as he takes Kat by her shoulder and they go to leave this plateau of pain.
Not knowing what is to come.

AN: This was based on the final two missions of DmC: Devil May Cry. Nect chapter will be all original about the fallout and meeting with DC and DxD characters.
The true form of Angel Trigger is an entirely original idea for it as I wanted to make it more angelic as opposed to the orginal DMC Devil Trigger being so demonic looking. It's based on the "Half-Demon / Half-Angel mural we see in mission 3 of the game along with some of the concept art for Dante.
His hair is the endgame hair buut the chaved parts are longer, matching the back of the head, the opposite of his previous look. This will be his hair for most of the story since I like the look.
Kat might also change her appearance based on her concept art from the game.
"Vergil's Downfall" is mostly canon to this story with some minor changes to fit with the OG series.
