Two days later, Krendar had settled into decent quarters on Dantooine. He was now on a hill overlooking a small forest, and Leia was with him.
"What are we doing here, anyway?"
"I don't want any eavesdroppers to hear what I'm about to tell you." He sighed. "Every time I've been with you, I've always… sensed something. Your presence is very strong. And not because you're royalty. There's a power sleeping within you. To defeat the Empire, it would be wise to awaken it."
Leia cocked her head. "Power? Okay, hang on." She shook her head and scoffed. "You think I have the Force," she said incredulously.
"Yes."
"So what, you think I can… lift rocks with my brain?"
"Try," said Krendar, gesturing towards a decently sized stone. "Nothing's impossible with the Force. Just jump the mental hurdles and do it."
Leia sighed, concentrating on the rock in front of her. She held out her hand and narrowed her eyes, and to her amazement… it started to float. She lifted her hand, bringing the stone higher off the ground.
"I… I'm doing it," she muttered. "I'm actually…. Krendar?" She dropped the rock in surprise. "Krendar… I… I've got to learn how to use this power."
"The Force… isn't something you use. It's…". He smiled. "The Force is the energy field that surrounds all matter in the universe, binding it together. The Force is alive; it can speak to us without words; it's not a tool in the true sense of the word. It's an ally… a friend who helps us… guides us, and has a Will of its own. To follow the will of the Force, to strive for balance… that's the Light Side. But working the Force to suit you… anger… fear, aggression… that's the Dark Side. The Dark Side that Darth Vader uses to impose the Empire's will. The galaxy's only hope is for balance to be restored. For this to happen, we must overthrow the Empire."
"I've always known I was adopted… does… was my father a Jedi?"
"I've heard it said by some that your biological father's name was Anakin Skywalker. He was a Jedi… a hero of the Galactic Republic before the Emperor took power. Unfortunately, he was murdered. Killed by Darth Vader."
Leia narrowed her eyes again. "We have to destroy the Empire," she said matter-of-factly. "First, we need the plans to the Death Star… that thing needs to be dealt with."
"Agreed. But first… if you're going to be a Jedi…". He unhooked a hilt from his belt. It wasn't curved, but still had an ornate look to it. "You're going to need a lightsaber, and you're going to have to know how to use it."
Leia took the hilt, activating the sapphire blade.
Krendar activated his own, but on a lower power setting, and saluted. "Attack me," he said.
Leia smiled. "Let's go," she said gamely.
