Chapter 2 - A bad heist

Bonnie closes the door behind her and begins making her way towards the park for some fresh air. As she's walking, she sees a dumpster with a large box for a bunk bed inside and lets out a sigh. She then looks towards the ground as she's walking and begins thinking to herself.

Bonnie: ((Dang it Clyde, at least do a betta job of getting rid of the evidence))

She walks with a worrying look on her face still looking at the ground and kicking a few rocks out of the way. She lets out another sigh and begins talking to herself out loud.

Bonnie: Ugh, if he wants to go to that island so bad maybe he should.

She says as she kicks an empty soda can.

Bonnie: Hmph, I'll show 'em! I'll show them I ain't weak, I can resist Jumba's stupid programming. As much as I love stealin', I love bein' free a whole lot more, and here, I'm free. Clyde is better off being on the island with our cousins and not risk going to jail here with me...

She says as her walking pace slows down and gradually gets slower. She feels Clyde getting further away as she's walking, being reminded of their programming to stick together as a team. She looks back and doesn't see their hideout with as far as she's been walking. She faces forward looking down again and begins grabbing her left forearm thinking about Clyde. She remembers the day they were both created, waking up and seeing him in a separate fusion chamber looking back at her. She sees Clyde's arm is just like his other arm, no longer being mechanical. He lifts the arm Bonnie is focusing on and waves at her with a smile.

Bonnie's grip around her forearm tightens a bit as she continues remembering. She sees Jumba pacing the floor on a phone call with one of his clients.

Jumba: I have just finished making my latest creations. They will certainly be of good use to you for the right price. 200,000 to rent for a mission, 100,000 for each experiment. What? No! They are not for sale.

Bonnie gets up and stretches inside the fusion chamber and sees a thick wire hooked up to it emitting a bright green light. Jumba hangs up and walks over towards the fusion chambers.

Jumba: Greetings, experiments 149, and 150. I have created you to be greatest thieves in the all of galaxy! If you wish to prove yourselves, I have a task for you.

Bonnie: Pfft, bring it on old man. We'll steal anything, so long as we get a cut of the score, capiche?!

Jumba: Hehe, very well. Waking up and already wanting money

Jumba said with a smile before making his way toward his computer.

Jumba: Your mission is to retrieve this planet's greatest treasure, located inside this pyramid.

He said pointing at a large square surrounded by smaller squares on a map.

Jumba: Jumba is not sure what client wants with primitive planet's treasure but we are needing more funds to create more experiments. Unfortunately the planet is within the Galactic Federal jurisdiction so you are needing to be careful. The client had previously hired a group of thieves but they were unsuccessful.

Bonnie: Heh, it'll be a piece of cake. Just tell us where to go and we'll bring that treasure back and then some.

Jumba unhooks the molecular charger from their fusion chambers and opens them up and the two step out. Jumba then grabs a backpack and brings it over which Bonnie immediately grabs surprised by its weight and beings looking inside seeing drills, grappling hooks, and other gadgets.

Bonnie: What is all this stuff?

Jumba: They are tools I have created which will aid in your mission.

Bonnie continues looking through the backpack then hands it over to Clyde.

Bonnie: Here 150, you hold the tools. I'm the brains and you're the brawn.

Clyde: Is that why your head is so big?

Bonnie: Shut up!

Jumba grabs the keys to one of his ships and tosses them over to Bonnie.

Jumba: Jumba has already set the ship's coordinates to the primitive desert planet, now show your creator what you can do.

Bonnie: You bet! C'mon 150, let's go make a good first impression for our new client.

Clyde: Right behind ya

The two get into the ship and head off. Clyde continues looking through the backpack familiarizing himself with the tools before they arrive.

Clyde: I wonder if there are any smoke bombs in case things go south?

Jumba appears on the ship's screen beginning a video call with the experiments.

Jumba: You will not be needing tools for escape. I have programmed you to be the best thieves in the galaxy as well as experts in getting out of sticky situations.

Bonnie: Oh yeah? How so?

Jumba: Hehe, you will be seeing...

Jumba signs off and the two approach their destination. As the ship gets close they see the pyramids and spot the large one in the center, Bonnie turns off the ship's autopilot and begins entering the planet's atmosphere looking for a place to land. She sees a large sandy dune not too far from the pyramid in the center and hides the ship behind it. The two step out, Clyde wearing the backpack as they climb up the sandy hill to take a look. Bonnie pulls out a pair of high tech binoculars from the backpack with thermal vision, similar to the scopes on the plasma guns Jumba uses.

Bonnie: You know, the boss would have way more money if he didn't spend it on stuff like this. What'dya say we try to steal that treasure without these fancy tools?

Clyde: You sure we won't need any of this stuff?

Bonnie: Course I'm sure. How else are we gonna prove we're the best? Here, put these back in the ship and let's go.

Bonnie hands the binoculars back to Clyde and he heads back and leaves the backpack inside the trunk of their ship. He looks over at Bonnie who is still at the top of the hill looking towards the pyramid and he grabs something from the backpack and closes the trunk before heading back up.

Clyde: Did you see anything?

Bonnie: Yeah, the place is swarmin' with guards.

Clyde: Looks like this won't be easy.

Bonnie: And that's just the way I like it, c'mon let's go.

The two begin heading towards the back of the pyramid where there are less guiards, hiding behind the other smaller pyramids as they get close. Suddenly a large Federation ship flies over them and Clyde quickly grabs Bonnie and puts himself over her.

Bonnie: Hey what gives?

The ship continues flying and it appears no one saw them. Bonnie realizes Clyde was shielding her from being spotted as her bright green color stands out from the sand while his body blends with it.

Bonnie: Heh, guess you're more than just brawn, good thinkin'.

Clyde carries Bonnie as he makes his way towards the back of the pyramid. Bonnie peeks through Clydes arms and notices one of the pyramids large stones is ever so slightly out of place and instructs Clyde to get close to it. Once he is there he puts Bonnie down as she inspects the stone.

Bonnie: Alright 150, you think you can move this big rock outta the way?

Clyde smiles cracking his knuckles and attempts to lift the large stone. He struggles and instead tries pulling the stone out, Bonnie jumps on top of him and gets on top of the first layer of stones seeing what's underneath as Clyde moves the stone. She sees a hole underneath the stone and concludes this is where the previous group of thieves entered the pyramid from. As Clyde continues pulling back the stone, she hears chatter from around the corner of the pyramid getting closer.

Bonnie: Shoot! 150, quick push the rock back and hide!

Bonnie said as she jumped into the hole and Clyde pushed the stone back into its place and began digging a shallow hole in the ground. He gets inside and curls up appearing like a rock in the sand, just then two armed Federation troopers turn the corner and begin looking around.

Trooper: Huh, could have sworn I heard something.

Trooper 2: Yeah me too. I'll stay here just in case, you guard the other side.

Clyde remained motionless then peeked ever so slightly and sees the Federation trooper looking in his general direction before looking out towards the dunes watching out for anything suspicious. Just then, Clyde feels something grab his foot and pulls him down into the ground and sees Bonnie has dug a small tunnel leading to the original hole she jumped into. He looks up and sees the sky as there is now a hole.

Clyde: They'll see that for sure.

Bonnie: I got it big guy

Bonnie said as she climbed on top of Clyde carrying a large rock and covers up the hole with it, sunlight can still be seen poking through the hole around the rock.

Clyde: That's not gonna last forever you know.

Bonnie: Then let's make it quick, besides, this will be our escape tunnel. Come on!

Bonnie said as she made her way deeper into the tunnel and Clyde following close behind her.

They continue and end up inside one of the pyramid's many chambers lit by torches. Bonnie grabs one of the torches and leads the two inside as they look for the treasure. As they walk, Bonnie steps on a loose stone and hears a click causing her ears to perk up. Suddenly a large number of darts begin firing out of the walls next to them and the two jump out of the way avoiding them with ease.

Bonnie: Heh, so, that's what Jumba meant. This is gonna be a lot easier than I thought, see I told ya we wouldn't need those tools.

Clyde: I don't know, I got a bad feeling about this place.

Clyde says as he sees large menacing statues of mysterious alien figures all around the pyramid with serious demeanors. Meanwhile outside, the guard in the back was pacing around and walks near the rock causing it to sink into the sand. He notices this and pokes his large plasma rifle at the rock causing it to sink and fall down into the hole.

Trooper: Oh no...

The trooper grabs his radio and begins alerting all the other guards that there's been another break in.

Inside the pyramid, the two experiments continue looking around being careful not to set off any traps. Just then they start to hear voices in the distance.

Clyde: Hey 149, do you think this place is... cursed?

Bonnie: What are you, stupid? There's no such thing.

Clyde: Then what do you call that?

He said as he pointed towards a statue in front of them with glowing red eyes. Bonnie was startled but started to notice a light like that of a flashlight getting bigger and bigger, the eyes of the statue being revealed as gems in the light as the light got brighter and brighter and the voices louder and louder.

Bonnie: Quick, hide!

She said as she dropped her torch and jumped into a corner while Clyde began climbing on the walls. Federation troopers can be seen entering the chamber they were in and began lighting it with the flashlights on their rifles looking around.

Trooper: Whoever is here should be in this area.

Trooper 2: Why don't we have guards inside the pyramid?

Just then a trooper trips over a small rope causing a trap door to open beneath them and they fall in.

Trooper: That's why...

Bonnie and Clyde look at each other and nod then get pick up their torches and run into the next chamber in the pyramid.

Clyde: That was close. How much further do you think until we find the treasure?

Bonnie: How the heck should I know?

Clyde: You know, the backpack also had a map inside.

Bonnie: Look we ain't cheatin', I wanna prove we're the best and that's what we's gonna do.

As the two run around the pyramid, they see one of the hall ways is covered in gold and make their way inside. As their torches light up the chamber, they see it shine brightly with all the gold surrounding the walls and see a large rectangular chest atop pyramid like stairs in the center.

Clyde: That's the treasure for sure

He said as they climb up the stairs and approach the massive golden chest. Clyde looks back to make sure the coast is clear then lifts the lid of the chest and they see a jar of glowing blue liquid inside which Bonnie picks up.

Bonnie: This is the treasure? What gives? I bet this chest alone is worth more than this?

Clyde notices tantalog writing under the lid of the chest reading: Whosoever is unworthy lays eyes within this sacred chest shall be cursed by greed for the rest of their days.

Clyde: Oh no oh no... I knew this place was cursed! Look 149!

Bonnie looks at the writing on the chest and scoffs saying.

Bonnie: That's a load of blitznak, come on, help me carry this chest back the way we came.

Clyde: What? But our mission was just to steal the treasure, let's go before more guards show up.

Bonnie: This is a solid gold chest 150! We'll give the client his stupid treasure and keep this for ourselves. Now come on, let's go!

Clyde sighed in frustration knowing he wasn't gonna get through to her and picked up the chest by himself and ran back out towards the way they came in, Bonnie following behind him carrying the treasure. As they turn the corner, they spot the two guards climbing their way out of the trap hole and see light behind them from more guards. Clyde kicks the guards back down into the hole and covers it up with the chest and jumps over to the other side. As he attempts to pick the chest back up, he sees the guards that were behind them have caught up to Bonnie and begin taking aim at her.

Trooper: There they are! FIRE!

Bonnie braces herself shielding the treasure with her body, Clyde pulls out a grappling hook he took from the backpack and fires it at Bonnie grabbing her from behind and pulling her towards him as the troopers fire. The blasts miss as they explode where she was standing causing thick smoke to fill the chamber. Bonnie still curled up holding the jar opens her eyes and sees Clyde carrying her as he makes his way out of the original hole they entered from. She feels a small mechanical arm around her waist and follows the cord seeing it's connected to a gun Clyde was holding

Bonnie: Hey! I thought I said we was doin' this without cheating, and you forgot the chest.

Clyde got visibly angry as he ran towards the last chamber and said:

Clyde: Look 149, I know you said yous the brains of our operation but I think that big head of yours must just be swollen. You coulda been killed if I hadn't taken this. Just keep holding on to the treasure and leave the rest up to me okay?

Bonnie saw the look on Clydes face, a face she hadn't seen him ever make before and felt bad. She curled up holding onto the glowing jar closing her eyes and letting Clyde do his thing. He sees the hole they entered in from and begins climbing up and sees the rock is no longer covering up the hole. He suspects the hole they came in from gave away the fact they were here and suspects there to be guards waiting for them outside. He then turns around and runs back around but sees the flashlight of the guards behind them, he knows the jig is up and they're not getting out.

Clyde: Well, we tried. It was a good first attempt at proving the world we're the best in the galaxy. Let's just turn ourselves in and hope for the best.

Bonnie opens her eyes and sees the hole they came in from and realizes the chest was never going to fit. She turns around and sees guards coming in and lets out a sigh in defeat.

Bonnie: Yeah, yous right. Sorry I got us into this mess... I-I shoulda never told you to leave our tools behind...

Bonnie said as she began to cry. Clyde kneels down and hugs her, then takes the jar from her hands as the guards enter the chamber guns drawn and aiming it at the duo. They both put their hands up, Clyde holding the treasure and are then placed under arrest.

Bonnie then has another memory, this time it is more faint and flashing quickly in her head as she struggles to remember from repressing these memories. She sees her and Clyde standing in trial, and the judge who is the Pharaoh of the planet they were on begins speaking to them.

Pharaoh: The thieves who attempted to steal our planet's sacred treasure failed to get to the final chamber room and were foiled by the traps set by our ancestors to protect it. However, you two actually managed to get to the treasure and attempt to take it. You are quite skilled in deed.

The Pharaoh opened up an image taken from the troopers at the point when Bonnie and Clyde were arrested and show Clyde holding the jar.

Pharaoh: The Galactic Federation wishes me to send you both to their prison, however, in this land we have laws in place to punish criminals depending on the type of crime. Due to the gravity of the crime you two committed I sought it justified to sentence both of you to death.

Bonnie heard as she stood there with her head down, Clyde standing next to her standing upright accepting their punishment.

Pharaoh: However, I believe living with the curse of having opened the sacred chest will be a fate much worse than death. Many covet our planet's sacred treasure, and in case anyone were to have ever been successful, a curse was placed upon opening the chest to those who are not of royal blood such as I. You two are the only ones to have ever made it that far, and I believe the curse placed by our ancestors was put there for a reason.

Clyde: Does that mean you're letting us go?

Pharaoh: After this trial you will both be free to go...

Bonnie lifted her head and saw as one of the Pharaoh's royal guards entered the room wielding a large sword.

Pharaoh: ...but you will still need to pay for the crime of stealing.

Bonnie was shaken up and began to breathe heavily, Clyde looked over at Bonnie then looked forward at the Pharaoh.

Clyde: I was the one who took the treasure and tried to take the whole chest with it, please punish me, not my partner. She was just my getaway driver.

Bonnie looked at Clyde and saw his determined look. She wanted to say something to not allow him to take the full blame, but she was told to trust him and didn't want to make anything worse than she already did.

Pharaoh: You are the one certainly capable of carrying such a large chest so far, and judging by the photos you were also the one holding the treasure.

The Pharaoh saw the distraught look on Bonnie's face and felt that the curse was already punishing her enough.

Pharaoh: Very well. Guards, bring him forward and remove his handcuffs.

The royal guards remove Clyde's handcuffs and instruct him to place his left arm on a wooden table. Bonnie having been crying looks up and sees Clyde, then her memory begins to flash as she attempts to repress the memory. The last thing she is able to see is the guard raising his sword before Bonnie snaps out of her memory breathing heavily as she looks around seeing she's still in Hawaii, standing still with the park not too far ahead of her. She looks down and sees her right hand firmly gripped on her left forearm and she finally let's go. She rubs her eyes wiping a few tears off her face.

Bonnie: Darn allergies

She says as she slowly beings to walk into the park.
