Times Square Struggle

"Not good." Batgirl muttered.

Their main problem naturally was the fact that Scream was trouble enough on her own. But add in the extra danger of her infecting people around Times Square, it was going to be an uphill struggle, especially as they didn't want to hurt them, just restrain them until such a time as they could end the infection.

"Any plans?" Iron Girl asked warily.

"We'll need to divide our attention if we're going to…" Spider-Boy began but had to stop himself.

The reason why was that they all had to dodge as Scream suddenly attacked, laughing manically as she did so, worse, that seemed to be the cue for the infected to start swarming the superheroes.

"Definitely not good." Batgirl grumbled.

They were left with no choice and had to fight off the attacks, staying on the defensive.

"You think even if we stop Scream, that they'll all be free?" Black Panther asked Spider-Boy as they stood, caught back to back.

Spider-Boy shrugged. "We can hope but, I'd rather take my chances with something else."

"Well, whatever it is, I hope it works." Black Panther muttered to himself.

Spider-Boy muttered to himself but Black Panther still heard him. "So do I."

Focusing on the enemy in front of him, Spider-Boy decided now was the best chance he had to act on his hopes.

He took aim and fired off his sonic blaster, the infected human shrieked and stumbled back, the Symbiote actually began peeling off them, acting quickly Spider-Boy attacked again and again and finally the human was free.

"Run!" He cried to them.

They didn't need to be told twice as they ran, the now empty Symbiote quickly began working it's way back to Scream who howled in anger and went to attack him.

"Guys, quick!" He called out, quickly dodging. "Use your sonic blasters on them, it'll free them. Leave this one to me."

He turned and glared at Scream who snarled at him before scoffing.

"Awww, little spider things he's so smart." She gave a dangerous grin. "Too bad it's not enough to save you."

Spider-Boy glared. "Just try it."

With that they began to fight, meanwhile the others quickly got to work fighting off the other infected people, using their sonic blasters as they had been warned about. It wasn't easy, especially as they seemed to become more cagey about being attacked after the first few.

"Urg, you've gotta be kidding me." Speed Demon groaned.

Iron Man shook his head. "We'll figure something out, just hold on."

"Hold on?" White Tiger growled. "We're getting surrounded again and their dodging our attacks."

Wasp shook her head. "Yeah, it worked at first and we've saved most of them, but the rest...I don't like Spider-Boy's chances against Scream alone either. How's he doing?"

"He's holding his own." Black Panther noted, for now.

They glanced over to see that he was indeed managing to hold on against her, also attacking when he could. But Scream was too quick to get caught in the sonic blasts, which allowed her to at least remain strong enough.

Then suddenly came the unexpected blow and then the joke from Dustin.

"We can't leave you kids alone, can we?"

The others all laughed and quickly got to work taking down the infected humans and leaving them vulnerable to the Avengers, enabling them to release them from the infection with their sonic blasts, they were finally able to tilt the odds in their favour, or at least, what they hoped was their favour.

"You made it just in time." White Tiger remarked in relief.

Jane smiled and nodded while Max spoke up. "We better get a move on, this fight isn't done yet, right?"

"True." They agreed.

That was when Jane noticed. "Oh no, quick."

They turned to see that Scream was bearing down on Spider-Boy, he was clearly starting to struggle.

"C'mon." Wasp gasped. "Hey, where are Nathan and the others?"

Lucas answered quickly. "They're still out checking other things...I don't think they'll be here in time, it's up to us."

They all nodded and resumed their focus on the ongoing battle between Spider-Boy and Scream, hurrying to their friend, leader and treasured family member's aid. At the moment, Spider-Boy grimaced as he was knocked back and hit the ground hard, Spider-Boy slowly got to his feet, growling.

"Dammit, not-"

"Don't tell me you're finished already." Scream mocked. "Can't use your little sonic blasts on me, I'm far too quick for that, now what do you plan to do?"

Spider-Boy realized she was right and grew even more worried, what was he going to do now, he had absolutely no idea and that worried him.

Luckily he soon saw something that did indeed work out for him and was silently grateful for his luck changing so quickly.

"What I'm going to do, is show you that what one can't do alone, many can do, right guys?" He remarked.

Scream just laughed, thinking he was bluffing until she took hits from multiple directions that made her live up to her name as she writhed and was knocked to and fro by the multiple sonic blasts from the Avengers who had spread out and were now attacking her. That was when Spider-Boy made his own hit and, with Scream dazed, he got to work, desperately webbing her up to try and keep her down, until they could find some way to force the Symbiote off her and trap it. But it wasn't easy, not when the sonics had a lesser effect on her than the infected humans. The Symbiote didn't slide off her in any way.

"It's, it's not gonna work dude." Black Panther, remarked anxiously.

Spider-Boy groaned. "No, we've got to-"

"We can't, not this time." Jonathan cut in.

He stopped and shook his head, but stood, ready to fight just in case. But it seemed Scream had learned that she was outmatched. She quickly got her way out of the webs and looked around wildly, taking note of all her enemies, this wasn't in her favour and so she had no other choice.

"This isn't the end, I've played my part, be ready, you're wasting time and I can't wait to see your faces when you realize you have failed." She mocked them.

Then, still laughing, she fled, leaving them all standing there warily, worried, wondering just what she was talking about. If there truly was something they had missed, something that they had overlooked, that had been staring them right in the face.
