A secluded house covered in greenery and forest is practically a part of the environment. The house was well off besides the cracked windows and withered wood. The sun will never set bears down on the old abandoned house. A perfect place for a Beast to hide and be away from humans or Spirits.
The boy standing outside the house was not significant, just a bystander and fellow child that would be shipped off for the space war and conquest for humanity as a battery.
The boy in question was Mortem, but his actual name was 032751058; his identification number was because he wasn't born usually but more of an artificial being, a middle-class psychic that would be used as a battery for space travel or being a soldier.
Mortem had a crow's nest of unkempt brown hair with black ends. His eyes were heterochromatic, one crimson red and the other an otherworldly purple, wearing glasses so they appeared an ordinary brown. His face was average regarding looks from staff and servants he talked to. They say he's handsome. Something he doesn't believe. His body was also average but a little muscular from his adventures and the many servants he trained with. He was also much taller than an average human, 6 '10. He wore a black chaldea combat outfit.
However, held a secret that he was ashamed of his purple blood. But that was super seated by other, more urgent issues. He knew his bloodline was alien, but since he wasn't a noble, he couldn't find out about his lineage or gene givers. He could hide the affliction easily, given that his bruises are purple like a human's, which made hiding them relatively straightforward when the trials started every couple of years.
However, Mortem cares less about that affliction the more he stays in Chaldea with the other servants because everyone there is just like him, each with their own imperfections, making him feel at home than his actual home in the future. Only if his friends and family were here would it be perfect.
He often thought about what would have happened if he never saw that ad from the local village, which was 20 miles away. Still, for Mortem, that's practically around the block, considering he can fly around at high speeds and use his powers to augment his strength, and he could crush a tree into a fine powder with his mind only.
Would the world just cease to exist because…Mortem stopped that thought entirely before he tried to grasp his mind around time travel? I might as well get with Kiara…
That thought made his spine tingle in fear. Mortem felt he had the worse luck out of the servant drawing pool than Ritsuka. He Fucking hated the fate system. Mortem would pull the worst of servants, such as Kiara, the beast, foreign classes, etc. If it's anything problematic, he would get the short end of the stick but learned to live with it. He had 60 percent of the servants of chaldea, while his partner Ritsuka had 40 percent to lighten the load on her circuits.
Unlike Ritsuka, he had knowledge of the moonlit world but never interacted with the mages of his time. He always felt on edge around them, and they were easy to spot but always in their own little world, ignorant of the world around them. When told, Da Vinci and other Casters always said something about mages never changing. So both he nor Ritsuka didn't have the pride and mindset of a mage which was a change of pace for most Servants.
"That's enough reminiscing time to face the music," Mortem said to no one. Mortem was sure someone had said something like that somewhere. Making a barrier around himself and charging a beam of energy in his hand to decimate a tall building.
Mortem's communication device beeped and vibrated. He ignored it because something in his gut told him to stay on guard. Yet this house looks familiar.
He approached the home and knocked on the door.
What's with this house? Why do I feel so nostalgic? Mortem wanted answers to why these thoughts were plaguing his mind.
The door creaked up, and Mortem gasped at the man who opened the door. The man went by many names, from being called a walking catastrophe to a bad omen, but for Mortem, he was-
"F-father?" Mortem didn't believe it. He couldn't believe it was his father. The energy that built up dissipated, and the barrier around him fizzled. Mortem was many things. One was that he was not a crybaby nor emotional, but when he saw his father, his only guardian in that cruel, harsh world, his only anchor, he started to cry as he tried to hug him. "Father, I've missed you. You won't believe the journey I went through."
Mortem's father stared at him as if looking at a hurt puppy, nothing but a look of loneliness and melancholy.
"Mortem…you have to wake up…your dreaming." He said that as the ground opened up and swallowed Mortem whole.
"Wait, what?!" Mortem screamed as he fell into the dark abyss.
"Hey, are you okay? You look a little pale today, My master." Tamamo said with a concerned look. "Do you need your favorite Servant to nurse you back to health~?"
Mortem had the same dream again, where he fell into a hole after meeting his father near their home. He thought he was coming down with something, but nothing came to mind.
The psychic asked other servants who dabble in dreams to monitor him, and they all came back with nothing to magic. Feeling homesick from staying here with Ritsuka for so long will do that. Saving all of humanity is a task not many people can handle, but seeing Ritsuka enduring and pushing forward is inspiring in its own way. Mortem could definitely see why servants flocked and were loyal to him. Ritsuka is a walking definition of "keep pushing forward." Though it's not without its downsides on the psyche.
Mortem was from the distant future, specifically, the year 9027, when the earth stopped spinning on its axis but didn't deteriorate and still provided hospitable conditions for life. Hence, humanity sent children to other worlds they found, and those kids living on the planet to fend for themselves, and only the strongest come out alive out of the few.
Mortem was happy that he didn't have to see any of the memories of the servants this time. They had a terrible past, really horrible ones that'll make lesser men cower in fear. Tamomo is shot down with arrows, Nero takes her own life, and Mordred is pierced by Rhongomyniad. Waking up to those memories wasn't pleasant. If Ritsuka was anything to go by, there were times when even she had woken up a few times in the middle of the night and had to talk to me, a fellow master, about her nightmares. The life of being a hero isn't easy and is a burden too great people shouldn't go through.
However, the troubling dreams Mortem was having were not one of the servants but of his own; that's reminding him of home. He often sat in one of the empty rooms that nobody occupied and thought.
So, Mortem was getting bombarded by concerned Servants that found him who were worried about him, one of them being Tamamo. He cursed how observant they were but still liked how attentive they were. Being one of the two only masters in human history had pros and cons.
"I'm fine. Really," Mortem said, trying to reassure the fox-eared woman.
The Castor grabs his face with both hands, giving Mortem a stern look.
"Please don't lie to me, my husband," Tamamo said, giving him a glare instead of a concerned look. "Don't make me call the medical staff here."
Mortem shivered at that comment. He didn't want the medical staff here for how attentive they may be and their mentality. Nurse Nightingale would try to cure him even if it meant killing him. Acelptes would probably study him to see if he can get different ailments from a hybrid alien species. He didn't want the looks of the infirmary staff looking at him like a freak/specimen, something to be prodded. Something the teen dreaded to go through.
The one person he trusted to examine him without feeling examined was the late Dr. Roman and Da Vinci, who saw Mortem as a person and not an object for once, reminding the boy of his father and close friends.
Mortem eventually trusted his servants to examine him to an extent, and if he felt they were going past their boundaries, he'll let them know.
"No, seriously, I'm okay. But I'm hungry, so that's probably why. How about you make me some food. Yes, food from my favorite housewife should make me feel better."
Mortem wanted to be alone with his thoughts and think about some things, but his servants pestered him about things over those two leaving him with no time for himself. However, it worked as Tamamo's glare softened, and she blushed as she muttered to herself. Then as quick, she shook her head.
"That won't work this time. Something is wrong. You've been like this since two days ago, and you absolutely refuse to enter the summoning room and even skip out on training with the other servants. Please don't lie to me…please."
Mortem couldn't stand that look Tamamo did. It made him feel awful when he lied to his servants. They were here for him. He mentally sighed and balled his fist white.
"Alright, I'll tell you… the dreams I've been having are getting to me. It's about my father and my home again. I didn't think I'll get homesick. I hated that place. It was awful; I'm always on edge, ready to kill anything, sleeping with one eye open, or else I don't wake up again." Mortem shook his head. "No, it wasn't always like that. I had a family and friends there. It's still my home, even if it's hostile."
Tamamo knew about Mortem's past. Most servants did. Some didn't believe Mortem's memories affected them as well or actually thought he was part alien. Recalling a memory where she saw a child-like Mortem kill another child like himself in a lab surrounded by adults. Then being sent off to Earth to survive in a hostile environment. Recalling some of her master's memories often made her furious.
However, the servant was surprised that Mortem mentioned his father. He never talks about him, only rarely when training with other servants. Tamamo, the best housewife, wanted to know everything about her husband.
"Can you tell me about your father, master? If he's the reason behind your nightmares and constant avoidance of your servants."
The caster asked the question Mortem was reluctant to answer. His father was many things, but there isn't much to tell the mature woman.
"If I tell you I want this to stay between us."
Tamamo nodded her head as she took her hands off Mortems face. This was good for both of them, including the person spying on them.
"This includes you too, Serenity."
One of the masters of Chaldea spoke to the hidden servant using presence concealment. The purple-haired Servant was surprised that her master spotted her, but she was slightly impressed with her master, which made her heart skip.
"My lord, forgive me for spying."
Mortem always noted which assassin would be watching him on specific days of the month. Each day would be a new assassin watching over him or Ritsuka to protect them just in case. However, times were he had one or two servants near him were a rarity. Usually, it would be the 'Stalker Trio' and whatever he spent time with that day.
The assassin kneeled before her master. A mask covering her face from the angry-looking Fox shrine maiden. Mortem grabbed her hand, giving it a squeeze. The servant soon calmed down, and they all listened to the master.
"Theirs no way to describe my father in one word, but if I had to pin it down. I would say he's a beast of humanity." The room became colder as if Mortem had said something horrifying. The servants looked surprised at the mention of the word 'beast' Tamamo with a face of concern and curiosity, and the assassin visibly shivered.
"Did you say a beast?" Tamamo did get faint memories of Mortem's father but nothing concrete. It was almost like his memories were trying to erase his existence. The conversations between Tamamo with other servants describing their master's father were different depending on the servant. Some describe him as a child, others say he was an elderly man, and some as a woman, not a man. "What type of beast was he? If you don't mind me asking? My master."
Mortem had no way of answering that question. What was father a beast of? He knew father was a beast through the conversations of the few elementals he interacted with, although brief because of his unique disposition. Also, the few times Mortem caught him drunk and in a stupor talking to himself.
"I-I don't know what Beast he is, but if I had to give him a name, it would be the Beast of Ignorance. From the interactions with the elementals I briefly had, they often called him a monster of ignorance. Why."
"I see… based on the memories I see from your life. Your father isn't an actual human isn't he?"
Mortem knew this topic of conversation was going to pop up eventually. Since the servants, he contracted to see his dreams and vice versa. He was surprised it didn't come up sooner with some of his older servants who had been here longer than Tamamo. He was expecting he'll be telling this to a fellow beast of Chaldea or Ritsuka out of all people.
"No, he's not. He's something of a wraith, something like Jack. A cumulation of souls that he amassed over the centuries. That's why his form is always changing and morphing. A shapeshifter."
Tamamo was nodding as she thought about the form of Mortem's father and why his form changes throughout the servants that recall Mortem's dreams.
"So that explains the appearance…." Tamamo thought aloud.
Serenity wanted to change this subject but didn't know who without sounding mean. This was her master to whom she pledged everlasting loyalty too. She felt she wasn't supposed to be here, but her master asked her to stay. The assassin felt like she should say something. Her master and caster were talking.
"You can say what's on your mind, Serenity."
The assassin had a broad expression behind her mask.
"I wouldn't have asked you to come out of hiding if I didn't want you speaking with us."
"Yes, master… I've been silently watching and listening to your conversation, but you should share this with Ritsuka, your fellow master, and Director Goredolf Musik. If this is troubling you so much. You and Ritsuka are the only masters on humanity's side."
Mortem was going to talk to them about it eventually. Ritsuka first. She's been with me since the first singularity, and I watched her grow from a scared girl to a strong individual whos been through so much. and Goredolf was Goredolf, although he reminded me sometimes of him of the late Olga Marie.
Mortem talked more with his servants about his father and the world he came from. It was a therapeutic experience. Even if his face only had a sliver of a smile on.
Throughout the time with Mortem's servants, Fou somehow snuck in, sleeping inside Mortem's hoodie pocket.
If I had to give Mortem a list of skills, it would be ridiculous and funny. However, one of my friends read my chapter, and I wanted to add it with a quick bio.

Skills
Danger Magnet A: A curse or blessing depending on who you ask, but this skill allows you to attract evil or chaotic aligned servants easier than a typical master. Summoning them will be easier as well in Chaldea. Building relationships with these servants is much easier as well. However, it comes with a downside. Lawful or good servants will have a much harder time building relationships with those types of servants. Not to say it's impossible, just a bit difficult, especially regarding Lawful good servants.
Otherworldly Nature EX: You are on Alaya's watchlist. The planet will tolerate your kind because of your human origins. Still, if you do something that interferes with the planet's will, the Counter Force won't think twice about sending a Servant of the Counterforce to eliminate you. This skill is similar to Existence Outside the Domain except without being tied to an outer god. You are an outsider wearing human skin, and most creatures from Earth would be able to tell something is different about you from a glance. They would be drawn to you out of curiosity but would be cautious about they'll approach you. If you couldn't tell, gods native to Earth would know immediately about you not being entirely human, along with elementals.
Psychically Gifted B++: You are psychically gifted with many psychic abilities. From levation to mind reading comes easy to you. You are heavily resistant to mental debuffs, and mental fortitude will make overcoming certain obstacles in life more manageable. However, the detriment of overusing this could make the user's nerves ache and be unable to move, a form of paralysis.
Inhuman Body C-: your body is unlike a human's, even if it seems that way. The inhuman strength and speed are a given, along with anatomy that won't resemble humans. As well as resistance to poisons and increased healing factor. Due to your circumstances, this will make you a target of suspicion to humans. To keep your body working, you must eat 3-5 times more than an ordinary human.
