"Ah child, how I pity you."
The majestic pokemon spoke to me somehow. What kind of pokemon was that? It looked somewhat familiar, but I did not know what it was.
"Little one, do you wish to stay where you are now?"
It asked me something really weird. Was this a dream? Was this a psychic connection? I hadn't met with any psychic pokemon recently though. Why was it even asking me of all people? What could it want from-
"Child, you need not fret. This is merely a vision created with my powers. If you'd like, you can forget all that has transpired. But if you would, please answer me honestly. I require your assistance in bridging the gap between pokemon and people, but if you have something tethering you here, I would not wish to rip you from it."
It must be a psychic pokemon asking me this. "I definitely wanna go somewhere else. I only like pokemon anyway, and they have their owners to go back to after I'm done watching them. I guess I could help but where do you need me to go? What pokemon are you anyway?"
"If I could take you away from this world, would you like that? Away from your stigma, a fresh start, but losing all that you already had?"
It didn't tell me its name. What a weird pokemon. "Of course. I'd like a break from all this. Oh, you heard the weird thing in my head, huh? Sorry about that."
It chuckled. "I can tell you. I am Arceus. Do you know that name?"
I froze. "Y-you're…"
"I will ask again. Would you like to go to a new world, one where you are tasked to be the herald of friendship between pokemon and people? One where you will find yourself in an adventure you would never have been on, one where you may struggle hard, one filled with tribulations, but also with great moments of joy, triumph, and the companionship born of an unbreakable bond?"
I didn't know how to respond. It wanted me to go to another world? And… I'd have to leave behind everything I had? Well, I guess that wouldn't be the worst but, what would I even do in a new world? And-
"I see I have burdened you. My apologies, you may operate as though this never happened." Arceus's form began to waver, and I panicked.
"Wait!" I reached out to grab onto it, but my hands passed through and I remembered it was a vision.
"What is it? I do not believe putting the burden onto yourself could be fair. You have so much left to experience."
"Y-yeah, but… You asked me, of all people, for this opportunity. A once in a lifetime opportunity to help people with pokemon, the ONE thing I'm confident in. I know I would regret it if I didn't at least try to help. So please give me this chance. I don't really want to stay where I am anyway. I'd be starting with a clean slate instead of a damaged one, so it's a win-win."
Arceus stared at me with its piercing eyes. I wasn't sure what else to say. "Is this truly what you wish to do? You have told me you do not enjoy the company of people."
I looked down sheepishly. "I don't know honestly. But… If I can make a difference like you said… Then I want to try and help them. They can see how great Pokemon are. That would be good enough for me."
After a moment, it chuckled gently. "I believe you can do this as well. Very well then, I will send you along. Is there anything in particular you want to bring or do before you go? Keep in mind, the world you are going to has not advanced technologically, but it will have all the basic necessities."
I thought for a moment. I had a few things to deal with, like school and informing my neighbors and the people's pokemon I took care of, but it was only pokemon and Scott's family that I cared about, and I definitely couldn't take them into another world. My favorite thing, huh.
"Well, can I take some photos along with me? They may not have been invented yet, but that's about all I can think of. And I also need to tell people I'll be going."
"Hmm," Arceus mused. "I have a convenient solution for that. Go finish your business, fill your bag with any trinkets you wish to bring with you, and simply call for me in your mind. I will respond."
"Okay. Thank you for letting me do this. Really."
It didn't move its mouth, but I believed it smiled. "The gratitude is mine."
