Hey everyone, chipsandfish2 here.
I might have had something I wanted to say, but I completely forgot so let's just get right into the story.
Disclaimer: I don't own any of the movies this story is based on.
Chapter 4: HTTYD Scene 3
INT. GREAT HALL - NIGHT
[A fierce storm rages outside the massive doors, causing them to rattle on their hinges. Inside, the recruits are gathered at a long table, eating dinner by the warm glow of a fire pit.]
GOBBER: Alright. Where did Astrid go wrong in the ring today?
ASTRID: I mistimed my somersault dive. It was sloppy. It threw off my reverse tumble.
RUFFNUT: Yeah. We noticed.
SNOTLOUT: No, no, you were great. That was so 'Astrid'.
The girls groaned at this.
"Does he ever stop trying to flirt with you?" Gogo asked Astrid.
"Nope. And no matter how many times I hit him, he thinks I'm just playing hard to get."
GOBBER: She's right, you have to be tough on yourselves.
[A loud creaking noise diverts everyone's attention to Hiccup as he enters the hall, his demeanor sheepish. Gobber gives him a disapproving glare.]
GOBBER (CONT'D): Where did Hiccup go wrong?
[Hiccup attempts to take a seat at the table, but Snotlout blocks him, so he heads to an empty table instead.]
The viking teens winced, now feeling bad at how they treated Hiccup.
RUFFNUT: He showed up.
TUFFNUT: He didn't get eaten.
ASTRID: He's never where he should be.
Que another wince from the teens, mostly from Astrid. Hiccup noticed this and gently took her hand.
"It's ok. It's all in the past."
"That still doesn't make it ok." Astrid refuted.
GOBBER: Thank you, Astrid. You need to live and breathe this stuff.
[Gobber places a massive book in the center of the table, catching everyone's attention.]
GOBBER (CONT'D): The dragon manual. Everything we know about every dragon we know of.
[A loud rumble of thunder shakes the hall, and rain pours down outside.]
GOBBER (CONT'D): No attacks tonight. Study up.
[Gobber leaves the hall, disappearing into the storm. The teens are left staring at the imposing book.]
TUFFNUT: Wait, you mean read?
RUFFNUT: While we're still alive?
SNOTLOUT: Why read words when you can just kill the stuff the words tell you stuff about?
FISHLEGS: Oh! I've read it like, seven times. There's this water dragon that sprays boiling water at your face. And there's this other one that buries itself for like a week…
"Wait," Maisie spoke up. "So dragons don't just shoot fire?"
"Actually yes." Fishlegs answered. "They shoot all kinds of different substances. Fire, lightning, acid, etc."
"Even being grazed by any of the mentioned substances can lead to serious injury or even death if not treated immediately." Baymax said.
TUFFNUT: Yeah, that sounds great. There was a chance I was going to read that...
RUFFNUT: ...but now...
[Snotlout decides to leave.]
SNOTLOUT: You guys read, I'll go kill stuff.
[The others follow him, with Fishlegs trailing behind, still talking about the dragons he's read about.]
FISHLEGS: Oh, and there's this other one that has these spines that look like trees...
[Hiccup walks over to Astrid, hoping to make conversation.]
HICCUP: So I guess we'll share-
[ASTRID interrupts him, making her intentions clear.]
ASTRID: Read it.
[She pushes the dragon manual toward him and then walks away.]
HICCUP: All mine then. Wow, so okay. I'll see you-
[Hiccup is abruptly cut off by the slamming of the door.]
HICCUP (CONT'D): Tomorrow.
INT. GREAT HALL - LATE NIGHT
[In the dimly lit hall, Hiccup opens the massive dragon manual. Thunder rumbles outside as he flips through page after page, reading about various dragons.]
HICCUP: Dragon classifications. Strike class. Fear class. Mystery class.
[Hiccup turns the page and continues reading about different dragon species.]
HICCUP (CONT'D): Thunderdrum. This reclusive dragon inhabits sea caves and dark tide pools. When startled, the Thunderdrum produces a concussive sound that can kill a man at close range. Extremely dangerous. Kill on sight.
Dolores paled at that. A dragon that produces loud noises. If she got hit by that at close range, her head would explode.
HICCUP (CONT'D): Timberjack. This gigantic creature has razor-sharp wings that can slice through full-grown trees. Extremely dangerous. Kill on sight.
[The dragon illustrations in the book appear to come to life, shifting and squirming in the candlelight.]
The audience was feeling creeped out by the movements. Children were clinging to their parents. Even Antonio, the animal lover, found himself frightened at the sight.
HICCUP (CONT'D): Scauldron. Sprays scalding water at its victim. Extremely dangerous.
[Lightning strikes, startling Hiccup. Undeterred by the storm outside, Hiccup continues to read about more deadly dragon species.]
Almost everyone jumped.
"I gotta admit," Hiro admitted, "I probably would've called it a night."
Tadashi, Aunt Cass, Honey Leon, Wasabi, and even Fred nodded in agreement. Gogo just rolled her eyes, not wanting to admit it herself.
HICCUP (CONT'D): Changewing. Even newly hatched dragons can spray acid. Kill on sight.
[He flips through the pages, learning about various dragon species, their characteristics, and dangers they pose.]
HICCUP (CONT'D): Gronckle. Zippleback. The Skrill. Bone Knapper. Whispering Death.
"Oof." Jack commented, "Whispering Death. So, like, it can kill with a sound that resembles whispering or something like that?"
"Actually, it's because the sound of their teeth makes that kind of noise before it strikes." Fishlegs corrected.
"How does it make that noise with its teeth?" Merida asked.
Before he could reply, Ryalogia spoke up. "Hold off on that until after the movie. It will be explained then."
HICCUP (CONT'D): Burns its victims, buries its victims, chokes its victims, turns its victims inside-out. Extremely dangerous, extremely dangerous, kill on sight, kill on sight, kill on sight…
Ruby choked on her drink (A/N: drinks and snacks were given out before the movie started, as they always should be), as did many others.
"I'm sorry, did you just say "'Turns its victims inside out'?!"
Hiccup nodded as Gobber spoke up. "Some of us have even seen it happen. It still gives us nightmares."
The vikings who have witnessed it nodded in agreement. Wasabi gagged.
[Finally, Hiccup lands on the page he's been searching for.]
HICCUP (CONT'D): Night Fury.
[This page, however, is almost entirely blank, with minimal information.]
"Makes sense since no one, except Hiccup, has ever seen one." Jacob said.
HICCUP (CONT'D): Speed unknown. Size unknown. The unholy offspring of lightning and death itself. Never engage this dragon. Your only chance, hide and pray it does not find you.
[Hiccup takes out his sketchbook, which contains a drawing of Toothless. He places it over the blank page in the dragon manual, comparing the sketch with the description in the book.]
EXT. HIGH SEAS - DAWN
[Stoick's ship sails through the high seas as the first light of dawn breaks. A painted dragon, with a sword run through it, adorns the billowing sail. Stoick stands at the helm, looking at a nautical map filled with illustrations of dragons.]
STOICK: I can almost smell them. They're close. Steady.
Fergus chuckled. Other than the guy's parenting, he was starting to like Stoick more and more.
[Stoick raises his gaze to a massive fog bank that stretches from the sky to the sea, like an impenetrable curtain. The three Viking ships follow alongside it, searching for an opening.]
STOICK (CONT'D): Take us in.
[The helmsman steers Stoick's ship into the fog, and the men ready their weapons, preparing for whatever might await them.]
VIKING: Hard to port... for Helheim's gate.
[The first ship vanishes into the whiteout, followed by the other two. A tense silence hangs in the air.]
[Suddenly, a flash of light, a silhouette of a dragon, and the sounds of chaos and destruction. The ship is hit, and it plummets into the water. Another flash, more chaos.]
Que another jumpscare for the audience. Some kids even started to cry. Thankfully, Ryalogia paused the movie so that the parents could calm them down.
EXT. TRAINING GROUNDS - RING - DAY
Hiccup: You know, I just happened to notice the book had nothing on Night Furies. Is there another book? Or a sequel? Maybe a little Night Fury pamphlet?
[His axe's head is blown off by a blast, leaving a smoking hole behind. Panicked, he yelps and runs away.]
The group flinched. Stoick glared at Gobber, mad that his son came so close to dying again on the SECOND day.
GOBBER (O.S.): FOCUS, Hiccup! You're not even trying!
[Cut to reveal a Deadly Nadder in a maze-like arrangement of movable walls, and Gobber giving orders from above.]
Stormfly squawked happily, glad to see herself on screen at last.
GOBBER (CONT'D): Today... is all about attack.
[The Nadder hops from wall to wall, causing the recruits to scatter.]
GOBBER (CONT'D): Nadders are quick and light on their feet. Your job is to be quicker and lighter.
[The teens try to engage the Nadder but stumble over Hiccup and his awkward shield. The Nadder spots Fishlegs hiding behind a wall and sprays a stream of spikes in his direction.]
Fishlegs flinched, glad he had his shield that day. Now it was his parents' turn to glare at Gobber, who shrunk back into his seat.
FISHLEGS: I'm really beginning to question your teaching methods.
Gobber: Look for its blind spot. Every dragon has one. Find it, hide in it, and strike!
[Ruffnut and Tuffnut rush in, attempting to outmaneuver the Nadder, but they get too close and are pushed together.]
RUFFNUT: (sniff) Ugh. Do you ever bathe?
TUFFNUT: If you don't like it, then just get your own blind spot.
[The squabbling twins give away their position with noise and movement, and the Nadder attacks them. They jumped out of the way, barely avoiding the magnesium blast.]
"Whoa," Anna said, "What kind of fire is that?"
"Magnesium blast." Astrid said proudly. "One of the hottest fires of any dragon."
"It's said to rival the heat of the sun itself." Fishlegs added.
GOBBER: Blind spot? Yes. Deaf spot? Not so much.
[Amidst the chaos, Hiccup wanders over to Gobber again.]
HICCUP: Hypothetically, how would one sneak up on a Night Fury?
Gobber: No one's ever met one and lived to tell the tale. [Snapping] NOW, GET IN THERE!
"So you're not even bothered by the fact that you're in a maze in a cage with a fire breathing dragon trying to kill you?" Maui asked.
Hiccup blushed as he looked down.
Astrid lightly punched his shoulder. "You just couldn't wait until after class, could you?"
Hiccup: I know, I know, but hypothetically-
Astrid: [Whispering] Hiccup! Get down!
[Astrid peers around the corner and pulls back as the Nadder rounds from another. She and Snotlout rolled past it. Hiccup tried too, but failed, gaining the Nadders attention. He barely manages to get out of the way as the dragon snaps at him.]
[The Nadder leaps over the maze and runs into Astrid and Snotlout. Snotlout swoops in, attempting to protect her from the dragon's assault.]
SNOTLOUT: Watch out, babe. I'll take care of this.
ASTRID: Hey!
[Snotlout throws his mace, only for it to completely miss as the Nadder just laughs back at him. Astrid is not amused.]
"Wow, nice throwing," Merida said sarcastically.
Now it was Snotlout's turn to look embarrassed.
SNOTLOUT: The sun was in my eyes, Astrid. What do you want me to do, block out the sun? I could do that, but I don't have time right now!
[The Nadder comes back for Astrid, forcing her to engage in a fierce battle of acrobatics to evade its attacks.]
[Hiccup approaches Gobber with his hypothetical question about Night Furies once more.]
HICCUP: They probably take the daytime off, you know, like a cat. Has anyone ever seen one napping?
"Seriously?" Mirabel asked, dumbfounded. "You're still asking?"
Hiccup blushed. "Yeah, maybe I should have waited till after training."
Astrid punched his arm a little harder this time. "No kidding, ya doofus."
[He notices the maze walls collapsing and Astrid rushing towards him.]
ASTRID: -Hiccup!
[Astrid crashes into him, and they tumble into a pile of limbs.]
[Tuffnut and Ruffnut mock their affectionate tumble.]
TUFFNUT: Love on the battlefield!
RUFFNUT: She could do better.
Okay seriously, there's a lot of blushing this chapter. This time, it's Hiccup AND Astrid as they looked at each other, then away from each other.
Stoick just chuckled, already having approved of those two dating.
[The Nadder closes in on Astrid and Hiccup, who are still untangling themselves. Astrid manages to free her axe from Hiccup's shield, which is still attached to his gangly arm. With a quick motion, she yanks it free, shield and all, leaving Hiccup bewildered. Astrid delivers a powerful blow to the Nadder's nose with her axe, causing it to yelp and retreat.]
Astrid rubbed Stormfly's snout.
"I'm so sorry girl."
Stormfly squawked as if to say, "It's okay, I forgive you."
GOBBER: Well done, Astrid.
[Hiccup gets to his feet as all eyes are on him. He tries to approach Astrid, but she's clearly frustrated.]
ASTRID: Is this some kind of a joke to you? Our parents' war is about to become ours. Figure out which side you're on.
[She grabs her axe and walks away, leaving Hiccup stung and pondering his place in the escalating conflict.]
Astrid winced. That was a lot harsher than she remembered it.
"Sorry Hiccup." she mumbled.
Said boy put his hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry about it. It was actually kind of an eye opener."
She raised an eyebrow at this, but decided to just focus on the movie.
EXT. COVE - MAGIC HOUR
[Hiccup approaches behind a shield. Peaking out, he tosses a fish in front of him. He tries to enter, only to be stopped when the shield gets wedged in between the rocks.]
Snotlout and the twins snickered at his apparent misfortune.
[Hiccup goes to the other side and tries to pull the shield free, but to no avail. Sighing, he picks up the fish and starts looking for the Night Fury. As he's walking, the camera shows Toothless perched on a rock behind him, looking down on him.
[The Night Fury creeps out from behind rock. Sniffs at Hiccup and the fish, slowly approaches, then retreats upon seeing Hiccup's knife. Realizing the dragon feels threatened, Hiccup kicks his knife into water. The Night Fury relaxes and quickly acts friendly, and slowly takes the fish from Hiccup's hand, revealing a toothless mouth]
"Wait," Moana spoke up, "Did he lose all his teeth or something?"
Hiccup just smiled and motioned to the screen.
Hiccup: Huh. Toothless. I could've sworn you had…
[Toothless' teeth suddenly pop out of his gums and he snatches the fish, chomping it in half]
Wasabi, Camillo, and Jacob jumped.
"Retractable teeth?" Jacob asked, astounded at the scene.
Hiccup nodded while Toothless gave a gummy smile in pride.
Astrid nudged his arm.
"You seem pretty calm for someone who almost lost their hand there."
"Then he'd probably end up like Gobber." Snotlout remarked.
Everyone was silent as they stared at him before bursting into laughter, while Gobber also shot a glare his way.
Hiccup (cont.): ...teeth. (Toothless approaches, sniffing Hiccup)
Hiccup (cont.): Uh, uh, no, no, no. I-I don't have any more.
[Toothless regurgitates half of the fish onto Hiccup's lap.]
[Toothless sits back, looks at Hiccup, and gestures for him to eat the fish. The raw, slimy, regurgitated fish.]
Realization dawned upon everyone.
"Please tell me you're not going to." Astrid begged
"Eat it."
Everyone stared at the twins who were staring at the screen.
"Eat it. Eat it. Eat it."
They continued their chant.
"Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it."
Pretty soon, Fred, Snotlout, Camillo, Sam (Ruby's brother), Jack, Merida, her brothers, Kristoff, Olaf, Maisie, DK, and Maui joined in.
"Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it."
Now a majority of the audience was chanting it.
"Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it. Eat it."
[Hiccup takes a bite of the fish, grimacing at the taste. He eventually manages to swallow it. He almost vomited it, but managed to re-swallow the fish.]
Cheers rang out throughout the theater while some, namely Astrid, Fishlegs, and Wasabi, gagged in response to the gross scene.
[Hiccup smiles at Toothless through the gross feeling and Toothless then tries to return Hiccup's smile. Hiccup tried reaching his hand out to pet Toothless, but he snarls and flies away when Hiccup reaches towards him. He ignites a small patch of dirt and sleeps on top of it.]
[Watching a bird fly away, he notices Hiccup sitting right next to him. Hiccup waves, only for Toothless to move his tail in front of his face, blocking his view of Hiccup. The boy tries to reach towards him, only for Toothless to move his tail and catch him in the act. Hiccup quickly gets up and leaves, with Toothless going in the opposite direction.]
"You just can't take a hint, can you?" Eugene retorted.
[After some time, Toothless sleeps, hanging upside down like a bat, and wakes up to find Hiccup drawing Toothless in the sand.]
"Wow, you're very good at drawing." Rapunzel said.
[Curious, Toothless then uses a branch to 'draw' Hiccup in the dirt. He even looks back at Hiccup before poking a spot to add some 'detail'.]
Everyone was lightly laughing at the Night Fury's childish nature as he was trying to imitate Hiccup.
[Amazed, Hiccup looks around before walking forward and accidentally stepping on one of the lines. Toothless growls, causing Hiccup to tense before looking down and raising his foot, and Toothless calmed down. He repeatedly stepped on the line, getting the same reaction every time, before stepping OVER the line.]
"Yeah, I'd be mad too if someone ruined my artwork." Rapunzel commented.
Merida winced at the comment, remembering how she destroyed her family's tapestry.
[Hiccup cautiously maneuvered himself over the lines, looking at the ground the entire time. Eventually, he's standing right in front of Toothless, his breath moving Hiccup's hair. The two look at each other. Hiccup tried reaching his hand out only for Toothless to growl again.]
[Deciding to take a risk, Hiccup closed his eyes, turned his head away, and just held his hand out in front of Toothless.]
Everyone leaned closer to the screen, tension rising at what was about to happen.
[Toothless hesitates for a second, before finally pressing his snout against Hiccup's hand. Hiccup looks back while Toothless opens his eyes, snorts, and then runs away. Hiccup is left amazed by this unexpected connection.]
Everyone stared in wonder at the scene that just played out.
Hiccup spoke up. "And that is how to train your dragon."
And that's a wrap.
Like I said before, the hardest part of these reaction stories is the reactions themselves and who reacts to what.
Be sure to check out my other stories if you haven't. I recently uploaded a new chapter for Star Wars The Frozen Batch.
Speaking of which, I recently saw a trailer for season 3 of The Bad Batch. It said final season though. I swear, if they kill off any more of or all of the Bad Batch, I'm going to flip the #$%^ out.
On another note, I saw Wish a few weeks back and oh my god, it was an amazing movie. Not only were the songs and humor amazing, but there were tons of references to other Disney movies. Don't worry, I won't say them for those who haven't seen it yet. If you haven't seen it yet, you HAVE to see it ASAP.
Anyways, be sure to leave a review and PM me if you have any questions.
And remember, any reviews that involve asking me to update or when the next chapter will be will be automatically ignored.
I want actual reviews, please.
Until next time.
See ya! Probably wanna be ya!
