I own nothing. I don't own Mortal Kombat or anything from Netherrealm studios. I get no money from this and the only thing I own are my OC's/Original Characters!
A/N: I'm starting to put these notes in the beginning of my chapters to change things up. Now in the last chapter I made a mistake with the date and put 33 instead of 23 which was my bad. Anyway, on with the story.

Wu Shi Academy/China
"Whoa. Now this will be a great place to start a cinematic universe." Said Janet Cage who walked through the gates of the Wu Shi Academy while carrying several bags that looked more expensive than they are probably worth.
Janet was followed by several other fighters who had gathered at the Wu Shi Academy. Those fighters are Kenshi Takahashi, Sonya Blade, Jax Briggs, and Dean Domino. The fighters originally stood outside the main gates until Raiden appeared before them with Dean at his side. Then they walked up the steps together and were allowed to enter the martial arts school/base of the White Lotus Society.
Dean paid close attention to the levels that each fighter had along with their titles after he cast the spell Observe on them to help level up the skill.
Janet Carlton, Level: 25
Martial Arts Icon/Jeet Kune Do Master
Sonya Blade, Level: 30
USA Special Forces Soldier/SF Second-In-Command
Jax Briggs, Level: 35
USA Special Forces Commando/SF Commanding Officer
Kenshi Takahashi, Level: 27
Taira Clan Avenger/Former Yakuza
Each fighter outclassed Dean in skill and ability at a glance, yet they seemed like normal-ish people. Janet is a known starlet with an athletic body frame with black hair tied in a short ponytail, black sunglasses over her eyes with fair skin and is dressed in a blue short sleeved button up shirt with black skinny jeans and sneakers on her feet.
Sonya Blade has a similar appearance, but her hair is blonde, and she has her hair combed down to her shoulders with a black headband over her forehead along with wearing a green and black exercise top and matching pants with boots on her feet and a duffle bag slung over her shoulders.
Jax in one word could be described as huge. He is tall with dark skin and black hair cut short and has the muscles of a bodybuilder while smoking a cigar in his mouth. He is dressed in a basic black tank top with cargo pants and black boots on his feet along with having his own duffle bag as well.
Lastly, is Kenshi who is much thinner than Jax, but had his own defined muscles that were hidden under his scarlet red trench coat with white flower pedals on the shoulders while he is also wearing a black shirt and jeans with black sneakers. He too had a duffle bag, but the most eye-catching thing was the sword in a black scabbard that rested at his side.
Dean didn't know much about swords, but he could tell that the weapon was a katana and that he might not want to mess with the guy who was a former Yakuza member apparently.
"This isn't one of your cheap movies Janet. Where here to defend Earthrealm." Sonya said coldly while Janet simply smiled and turned her head.
"Whatever you say miss military." Janet responded before Raiden spoke up and addressed the warriors gathered before him.
"You have all been gathered here because each of you has proven yourselves worthy of defending Earthrealm in the upcoming Mortal Kombat Tournament. Each of you has your own reasons for coming here, but at the core of each of you is an honorable warrior. During your time here, you will learn to hone your talents and master the gifts you have each been given." Raiden explained before two monks came up to the group and Dean didn't hesitate to glance at them.
X-X
Name: Liu Kang, Title: Chosen One/Shaolin Monk
Race: Human, Age: 27
Level: 50
Bio: Curious about how you're mentally scanning him with a spell.
Note: Not to be rude but can you stop scanning me?
X-X
Dean felt slightly embarrassed by the fact that the monk so easily caught onto his scrying spell, which made Dean lower his head a bit.
"Sorry." Dean said to the monk when he got close.
"You weren't malicious in your intentions, so I am not mad. Just try not to make a habit of that little intrusion spell of yours." Liu Kang advised while Janet spoke up in confusion.
"Did I miss something here? Why the hell are you apologizing to Bruce Lee light over here?" Janet asked with her usual bluntness as she looked over the two monks known as Liu Kang and Kung Lao.
Liu Kang has slightly tanned skin with shoulder length black hair along with a red headband over his forehead while having his own muscular frame. He is dressed in a white martial arts gi top with black trousers and martial arts shoes on his feet.
Kung Lao on the other hand has slightly tanned skin with short hair that is hidden underneath his Chakram themed hat on his head while being dressed in traditional shaolin robes and trousers with martial arts shoes on along with a metallic dragon themed charm hanging off the sash around his waist.
"I can use magic and I tried to scan him to see how strong he was." Dean replied honestly while Janet just seemed confused and in disbelief.
"These two are Liu Kang and Kung Lao. They will also be competing in the Mortal Kombat Tournament as well as helping to train all of you into better fighters." Raiden explained and soon enough each of the fighters were shown to their own rooms in the martial arts academy so they could rest for the night before they began training tomorrow.
However, before Dean could go to sleep, he noticed an alert appear before his eyes.

Dean laid down on the bed within the traditional styled room and couldn't help but wonder what a loot orb was, so he opened his inventory and took out the object to see that it was a baseball sized black orb with glowing magical runes all over it.
Would you like to activate this Loot Orb? Y/N?
Dean saw no reason to decline and hit the yes button which made the orb glow a bright color before it vanished and in exchange, Dean saw three new objects deposited into his Inventory.

Wu Shi Academy/China
"A refined body, mind and spirit all play an important factor in becoming stronger." Liu advised while Dean was standing on a wooden log on one leg while having his other leg planted on the supporting one while his hands were brought together in a prayer like fashion while his eyes were closed, and he focused on meditation while remembering the advice of his instructor.
Breath in and breathe out.
Focus on the energy within you as if it was a muscle. Expand and contract that muscle. Practice refined control before attempting to use actual techniques.
Be as swift as the wind and as strong as a boulder.
Dean ignored the skill alerts that rang in his ear as he knew he was leveling up his skills in meditation, mana control and Chi control. The energy pools felt as if they were in the pit of Dean's stomach and his Chi pool felt larger than his mana and was a bit denser to manipulate compared to his mana, but then again it could be the case that his MP pool was dwarfed by his Chi.
Dean didn't dwell on thoughts like that though and instead focused on refining his mind and emptying his unnecessary thoughts. His focus was inward and outwards as he listened to the sensations and noises around him as he heard Liu Kang moving around him as Dean remained firm in his balance on the wooden log.
Dean felt the air around him get warmer but during this time of year he didn't pay much mind while he continued meditating. However, the temperature around him started getting uncomfortably hot to the point that he not only started sweating, but he opened his eyes and quickly lost balance and fell backwards when he saw a silent ball of flame in front of him.
"Ow." Dean groaned in pain while he was on his back on the ground and choosing to ignore the slight HP drain, he saw from his HP bar that flashed before his eyes.
"Always remember to focus on your surroundings." Liu advised before helping Dean up while he dusted off his monk robes.
"I thought it was. I didn't even hear a crackle or flicker of that fire of yours."
"True, however you noticed the slight rise in temperature and didn't suspect anything out of the ordinary. Your senses are a tool to be sharpened and listened to Dean. This exercise is not only one for balance and meditation, but it is also to help hone your senses as well." Liu replied with a smile as he crossed his arms and allowed Dean to take a moment to digest the monk's words.
"Now let's move on to some sparing. Let's see what you've learned so far." Liu said before he and Dean took a few steps away from each other before getting into their ready stances. When Liu started training Dean, he was teaching him the art of Choy Lay Fut. A fusion of several other fighting techniques that perfectly blended into its own unique and strong form of martial arts.
Dean and Liu didn't need a signal to start the match as the fighters rushed towards each other as Dean attacked with a combination of rapid jabs and cross strikes towards Liu who easily dodged each blow before Dean tried changing things up by going for a leg sweep. Liu hopped over the strike which allowed Dean to smile since he quickly followed through with his momentum and spun around to deliver a fast kick with his back leg which was aimed at Liu's torso.
Liu grabbed the leg before it landed and with a quick spin and shift in weight, he brought Dean down to the ground before placing him in a restraining hold to keep him down.
Dean focused on remembering his teachings before he moved his arms and legs at the same time in focused motions to destabilize Liu's weight while he was on top of him. Liu could keep Dean down but that wasn't his intention with this spar, so Liu allowed himself to be moved and released his hold by tumbling onto the ground in a small roll before springing up to his feet while Dean had gotten back onto his legs and once again went on the attack.
Dean knew that Liu could beat him, but his goal was to at least force Liu to start fighting back with the same level of intensity that he was showing to his teacher, so Dean started throwing in feints mixed with rapid shallow and strong strikes, which caught Liu's attention and had him start to put up his guard.
'He's starting to mix up feints with weak and strong attacks to prompt me into retaliation. He is having me make quick decisions on which attacks I need to try and block or parry instead of simply dodging and risk getting hit by a strong blow…He's improving rapidly.' Liu thought to himself before he decided to put in a bit more effort and started retaliating with his own strikes which hit harder than Dean's.
However, the deciding blow of the match came when Dean missed another high kick and Liu knocked him back and onto the ground with a non-lethal one-inch punch technique that had Dean wheezing and grasping his chest.
"That's the match." Liu said with a bright smile while Dean slowly sat up on the ground.
Daily Quest!
Name: Sparring Match
Failed!
50x2=100 EXP!
"Damn it. That's a whole new level of pain." Dean said with a groan and a loss of breath.
"Perhaps that was a bit…much. But I must say that your ability to learn is quite impressive. Someone could call you a prodigy and I'd believe it. You've learned the art of Choy Lay Fut in record time. Your no master, but your certainly skilled in the form now."
Dean thanked his instructor while glancing at the game screen that appeared in front of him.
'Advanced Martial Arts' has leveled up! Level: 15-16!
The skill of martial arts had evolved after hitting level twenty and changed into the advanced variant. However, instead of getting different fighting style skills, his martial arts forms were placed under a tab within the martial arts skill itself, showing that he has learned Karate and Choy Lay Fut respectively.
"I try my best." Dean said before standing up and dusting off his chest off and started stretching. "So, are we doing another spar?" Dean asked after remembering his past lessons when he would sometimes hit zero HP in these spars which thankfully didn't mean death and instead just knocked him out cold.
"Not quite. We're going to join up with your other fellow students. We've reached the point that allows each of you to start training together." Liu replied before the duo made their way to the main yard of the Wu Shi Academy where he met back up with the other would-be champions of Earthrealm.
"Looks like the rotten egg made it. You get to sit in the cheap seats." Janet said with a cocky smile to Dean who rolled his eyes before he and Liu kneeled to the ground as dozens of monks have been gathered in front of and around a designated area for more intense martial arts spars and the two people sparing were none other than Jax and Kenshi.
Dean took a moment to notice that Kenshi and himself were the only ones wearing the monk robes while Sonya was still dressed in the green and black attire she wore when she first arrived along with Jax while Janet herself had changed into a black and blue sports top of her own with blue and black leggings and sneakers while the words Cage were in big bold letters on both legs of her trousers, and honestly Dean had to admit that Janet sported a nice figure of her own and even her personality was becoming a bit more bearable the more time he spent around her.
Dean also noticed that Raiden himself was sitting in a ceremonial wooden chair while watching the fight between Kenshi and Jax. Kenshi's style of Tai Chi allowed him a bit more maneuverability compared to Jax who used a mix of boxing and Olympic wrestling to fight. The match up was certainly interesting to say the least as Jax caught Kenshi off guard with a powerful right hook that had Kenshi stagger back before Jax grabbed hold of him and suplexed him onto the hard ground before Jax rolled over him and readied another strike.
"Hold Jax!" Raiden said loudly as he stopped the match. "This is an exercise to see your progression, not to seriously harm one another."
"Right…Sorry." Jax said to Kenshi before helping him up while looking remorseful. "I got a bit heated in that match. My bad."
"Don't mention it." Kenshi said with a grimace at his incredibly sore back before they both walked away from the sparring area.
"Now Sonya Blade and Janet Cage. It is your match is next." Raiden said before both women stood up.
"You'd better be careful Blade lite. I'm a martial arts icon. You can't handle this much boom." Janet said proudly while getting into her ready stance while Sonya rolled her eyes and scoffed in annoyance.
"You think this is some game or movie? We're here to protect Earthrealm jackass. Now shut up and fight." Sonya said sharply before the fight started with Janet quickly closing the distance and hit Sonya with three rapid kicks, but Sonya blocked each one with both arms as a sturdy guard against the attacks before she countered with an uppercut to Janet's chin before flipping backwards onto her hands before reversing her momentum and launching herself forward with an Arc Kick which launched Janet off the ground and had her land hard on the ground before she quickly rolled back to get back onto her feet.
Janet returned the favor with a focused Shadow Kick that she practiced thousands of times, but this time was different because her body was suddenly shrouded by an emerald, green energy that enhanced her movement to the point that Sonya hardly even had time to see the kick before Janet's foot landed home at Sonya's chest which sent her flying backwards onto her back.
"Holy Alien reboot! I've done that Shadow Kick a million times and that's never happened before!" Janet said in shock as she looked her body over as she glowed with the green energy before it slowly faded away.
"Janet Cage, what you've done is begun to unlock more of your hidden potential. What's you've awakened was your latent Arcana." Raiden explained calmly while Sonya rose back to her feet while wiping some blood off her lip since it got busted in her rough landing.
"What's an Arcana?" Jax asked with clear confusion before Kung Lao spoke up.
"An Arcana is a gift from Earthrealm's Jinsei that bestows unique powers to certain individuals. It appears that Janet Cage has one of her own."
"Honestly, I know I have one, but I thought that the term Arcana was something else. Like a reference to the major Arcana from Dungeons and Dragons." Dean said honestly and out loud which got him a few confused looks from a few other monks, causing him to look down with a light blush of embarrassment.
Everyone's attention soon returned to the fight as Sonya used the element of surprise to attack Janet with a long combination of focused strikes which clearly rocked the celebrity before the combination of strikes ended with a powerful side kick from Sonya which knocked the celebrity down with a groan of pain and a broken pair of shades.
"That's enough." Raiden announced while Sonya gave Janet a curious look before leaving the area while Janet took a moment to stand back up and remove her sunglasses.
"These sunglasses were five hundred dollars." Janet complained before she walked away as well with a grimace of pain and embarrassment from her performance.
"Kung Lao and Dean Domino. It is your turn to battle." Raiden announced causing both fighters, to stand up and make their way to the fighting area.
Daily Quest Alert!
Dean didn't need to see the rest of the quest before he hit the accept button and firmly got into his standard martial arts stance.
Dean and Kung Lao clashed as Dean attacked with a flurry of jabs and crosses like he did to Liu earlier in order to test the waters since he never sparred or trained with the monk before. Dean decided to act cautiously and that proved to be the best idea as he quickly raised his arms to block a powerful punch from the monk, which cased Dean to take several steps back before Kung Lao broke through Dean's guard with his own rapid strikes which had Dean staggered before he was knocked back when Kung Lao hit him in the stomach with two open palmed strikes that hit at the same time and dealt him some serious damage.
Warning! HP is below 25%!
The flow of MP and Chi in your body has been temporarily disrupted! Can't use MP or Chi skills for the next 30 Seconds!
Dean dropped to his knees while struggling to breathe as all the energy within had seemingly vanished.
"Hold Kung Lao!" Raiden said before he moved to Dean's side and started using his healing arts on him.
"What happened! That strike was meant to hinder, not truly harm!" Kung Lao said in total shock before Raiden spoke.
"Dean. The natural energies within your body have been disrupted. The flow of your natural energies isn't fully balanced and vulnerable to disruption." Raiden explained with slight confusion which surprised Dean, especially after he had gotten an alert from his Arcana which basically told him that he was hit with a scrying spell from Raiden.
You're under the effects of a godly healing spell! Your HP Regen has increased significantly!
"It's probably because of the nature of my Arcana." Dean replied to Raiden who seemed confused.
"You said you knew that you had an Arcana earlier, so could you please explain what it is?" Liu asked as he walked up to Dean with concern on his face.
"Well…It's a bit complicated and to start things off, I can tell you that my Arcana basically told me that I am a descendant of Han Jee-Han." Dean admitted which shocked Raiden, Kung Lao and Liu Kang.
"Are we supposed to know who that is?" Janet asked bluntly. "Is he some medieval celebrity like the Brave Heart dude?"
"Han Jee-Han was Earthrealm's mightiest heroes. He was even able to single-handedly win one of the previous Mortal Kombat Tournaments before he suddenly vanished. Even the Elder God's failed to find him until he passed away and his spirit entered the realm of Order. He must have somehow hidden the power of his bloodline until it has awakened within Dean Domino." Raiden explained while Dean couldn't help but feel a bit pressured on trying to get stronger after hearing just how important his ancestor was.
"He sounds amazing." Kenshi said before Dean was healed up enough to stand on his own two feet as he was fully healed and recovered.
"Thank you, Raiden." Dean said before the commotion soon died down and the rest of the day was spent going to the 'classes' within the martial arts school that was based around supernatural studies and information.
Daily Quest!
Name: Sparring Match
Failed!
50x2=100 EXP!
Dean once again chose to ignore the fact that he failed yet another quest and instead decided to focus on his supernatural studies.

Wu Shi Academy/China
"Remember a sharpened mind is just as important as a refined body. Now focus on the ball and don't lose sight of it." Raiden said in front of the Earthrealm warriors while standing behind a small desk with a red ball on the desk in between two wooden cups. The third cup was floating above the ball as it was levitating due to Raiden's electricity before he lowered it and covered the ball before he electrified the other two cups and started moving all three of them quickly while Janet Cage tried to keep sight of the ball since she was the first person to participate in this exercise.
The cups moved faster and faster until they stopped, and Janet slowly raised her hand to pick which cup had the ball and after looking over the three cups she picked the one in the middle. The cup levitated into the air but instead of a ball, Janet was blinded and had her face covered in green paint causing Sonya and Kenshi to laugh while Dean suppressed a snicker.
"Focus is important Janet Cage. Your ego and boasting must be put aside at times." Raiden said sternly before Janet stood up and walked away to wash the paint off her face before Kenshi stood up and took his turn.

"Okay. Focus my energy and deliver the strike." Dean replied as he was in front of the other fighters and in between them were two stacks of stones with a thick wooden log placed on top of them and Dean's job was to break through it with a single strike.
So, Dean focused his mana into his right hand as he raised his open palm into the air and with focused breathing and control, he lowered his palm down towards the wooden log with a karate chop, but the strike only cut halfway through the log.
'Mana Manipulation' has leveled up! Level: 13-14!
New skill unlocked!
[Mana Strike, Level: 1
Rank: Novice
You have learned to focus magical power into a single physical strike to deliver magical damage to your enemies!
Damage: INTxSTR
Cost: 50 MP]
"Not bad." Liu said with an impressed voice while he looked over the log and saw how the cut was clean despite not going all the way through as Dean raised his hand out of the log and ignored the painful throbbing he felt in his hand.
"This totally reminds me of the movie Iron Blood, I was a rookie fighter and-" Janet was saying before Sonya spoke up.
"This isn't one of your movies Cage." Sonya said with a groan while Janet smirked at Sonya's annoyance.
"Don't worry Blade, I promise I'll make a military character in my new movie so similar to you, you might think you were in the movie." Janet replied while Sonya scoffed.
"Since you have energy to taunt, you can go next Janet." Liu said before removing the damaged log before placing a different one on the platform while Janet walked up and with refined focus, she managed to summon up her 'Star Power' as she calls it and was able to cut through the log with ease.
"Damn, it's hard being so perfect." Janet boasted before Liu Kang he took out another object to chop.
"Let's see if you can still boast after cutting through this." Liu said before he placed a slab of iron on the rock platform.
"What the hell? Why does the rookie get wood while I get metal?" Janet asked in shock.
"Because it seems that chopping through wood is a bit too easy for you, so to help you improve, we need to up the difficulty." Liu replied and when Janet went to chop the slab of metal, there was a loud crunch, but it wasn't from the metal and instead it came from the celebrity's hand after she let out a cry of pain.
"Alright take five." Liu said before Dean was the one who led Janet Cage to the infirmary where she was getting her hand wrapped up by the monks who had placed some kind of alchemical salve on the bandages.
"Damn it, paste yourself." Janet said to the monk wrapping her hand.
"You did that to yourself you know." Dean teased.
"Shut it rookie. I am a master of Jeet Kune Do, so this exercise should be a piece of cake, but instead I broke my damn hand because my Star Power didn't want to work." Janet replied with a huff of anger.
"Mastering a skill takes time. You can't just master something in a single day. Your 'Star Power' is cool, but it looks like it takes a lot of concentration. So, maybe you just need a little bit more martial arts styled focus instead of acting like a celebrity starlet or whatever." Dean said while Janet looked him over for a minute before looking away.
"This isn't some act you know. This is the real me, if people can't handle it, then they can kiss my ass. I'm not going to pretend to be someone else just because other people want to take life too seriously. Or just hate the idea of fun."
"Nobody is saying that you need to change who you are. I'm just saying that you need to focus more on your training and put in a bit more effort. I don't think you should change yourself at all because your awesome just the way you are." Dean said honestly while Janet turned her head away in thought before speaking.
"I came here because Raiden told me that fighting in this tournament could change the arc of my life. So, I decided to come here and learn everything I could about this supernatural stuff, so I could make a cinematic multiverse as a screenwriter instead of being a star. I want people to respect my work, and this is the way I can have people respect what I do. This is how I change my life for the better."
"At least you have something. I came here so that other people wouldn't get hurt. I guess I'm trying to search for something worth fighting for in this tournament. And now I am learning more about my ancestor who was apparently a super badass and I now have to try and live up to that kind of legacy…Maybe I'm taking this stuff to seriously or something but learning stuff here has opened my eyes to a lot of things." Dean explained with a sigh. "All I know is that we've been chosen to fight for Earthrealm and I don't want to lose and risk the world being destroyed."
Janet listened to Dean's words before thinking about everything that led up to this moment and she thought that maybe she could start putting in more of an effort to improve. Hell, Dean was helping her remember who she used to be before she got famous.
Janet Carlton aka the girl who got bullied before her dad enrolled her in martial arts classes where she toughened up and became recognized as a martial arts icon.
"Thanks for bringing me here rookie. You're not half bad." Janet said while Dean smirked and looked away a bit.
"Don't mention it. Were teammates in this tournament after all."
END!
