Does your partner allow you to dress them up?
Does your partner let you style their hair and choose their clothes? Try letting your partner get ready for dinner and then before leaving suggest a completely different outfit and see if they change before leaving. If you succeed you can put a point into the whipped category.
If you can get them to switch their hairstyle as well then bonus points. Congratulations on your partner being utterly devoted to you.
Jane checked her watch for the third time, pacing around the living room in her grey suit pants and dark rust colored button down. Her hair down in a loose low ponytail. She glanced at the staircase leading up to the bedroom, a mix of impatience and amusement on her face. She loved Maura dearly, but her wife's meticulous attention to detail could sometimes test her patience.
Maura had suggested a date night out to dinner at one of Maura's favorite French restaurants. They were regulars visiting a few times a month and had met the chef Francisco once on their anniversary.
The week had been long closing out a particularly hard case and Maura knew they needed some alone bonding time. She suggested the dinner the night before as they were grabbing quick dinner on their way home.
Maura was upstairs getting ready when that article popped into her head and thought she may try the first set. She still wasn't sold on the idea of testing Jane without her knowledge but she thought she would give it a try and see how one test felt. She thought to herself rationalizing she regularly picked out Jane's outfit so it wasn't like she was doing anything more nefarious than her norm.
Jane always started getting ready after Maura and finished before her.
"Maura, we're going to be late!" Jane called up the stairs.
"Just a few more minutes!" came Maura's voice from the bedroom.
Jane sighed, shaking her head with a smile. She knew this routine well. Maura always wanted to look perfect, and while Jane appreciated her efforts, tonight she was eager to get to the restaurant. They had a reservation at a French place that had become one of her favorites.
Finally, Jane heard the click of heels on the wooden floor as Maura descended the stairs. When Maura appeared, Jane's breath caught in her throat. Maura looked stunning in a deep blue dress that hugged her curves, her hair styled in soft waves, and a hint of makeup accentuating her natural beauty.
"Wow," Jane said, unable to hide her admiration. "You look amazing."
Maura smiled, a hint of a blush coloring her cheeks. "Thank you, Jane. You look quite dashing yourself. But…"
Jane stepped closer, taking Maura's hand and giving it a gentle squeeze. "But, what Maura?"
Maura spoke softly. "Jane we clash a bit, with our colors? Burnt orange and blue don't quite mix." She stood next to Jane and gestured towards her deep blue dress and Jane's rust colored top.
Jane stood there confused for a few minutes. She looked back and forth a few times before stating "Clash? We both look good, Maura"
"You do look beautiful Jane, I just thought maybe our outfits should compliment each other." Maura said slightly bashful. "You know how I love to coordinate with you."
Silence settled for a moment between them.
"I could just go switch my dress, Jane." Maura continued slowly turning back towards the stairs.
"No" Jane exclaimed "No, I mean you look amazing it will be quicker for me to switch my shirt" Jane said turning to the stairs and dashing upstairs. Jane knew they would never make it out to dinner if Maura went to switch her outfit.
"The beautiful deep emerald top would compliment my dress perfectly." Maura called from the hallway.
"Got it!" Jane called as she made her way to the closet switching her shirts.
"And your black Armani pin striped pants would complete your ensemble perfectly." Maura called. She said through clinched teeth unknowing if she was pushing Jane too far. Early on in their relationship she had given Jane a lot of fashion advice but after the years and upgrading some of Jane's wardrobe, her advice wasn't always needed. Jane did have a knack to find an outfit that caused the butterflies to fly in Maura's stomach still after all this time.
"Pants too, geez Maura, ok hang on a minute" Jane said as loud noises came from the bedroom and Maura could hear clothes and hangers banging around. She thought to her self the closet was probably being pulled apart but she would deal with that later.
"And your new dress boots also Jane" Maura called out
"Yes, dear" Jane called out sarcastically and the sounds of shoes hitting the floor could be heard.
Maura felt guilt wander into her mind, was she being ridiculous. Before Maura could begin to question herself anymore Jane emerged at the top of the staircase stunning in the beautiful Gucci emerald green button down and black pin striped Armani pants. If Maura was honest the shoes she had on earlier would have gone great with the outfit but Jane's new dress bouts did look amazing completing the outfit.
"You look stunning." Maura said as she caught Jane's lips when Jane made it to the bottom of the stairs.
"Thank you. Now do we look like the power couple that we know we are?" Jane smiled as she held Maura's hand up and twirled her around.
"We do" Maura replied smiling at her wonderful wife.
"Great let's get a move on it before my stomach starts to digest itself." Jane laughed.
"Jane that is not scientifically possible because I know for a fact you had a meal not to long ago and I would venture to say you had a snack while I was getting ready." Maura chuckled hitting her arm "One more thing"
Jane spun towards Maura rolling her eyes "What now?"
Maura reached out to pull the low pony out of Jane's hair and ran her hand through Jane's hair. "There now we can proceed"
Jane leaned in for a kiss, then as if on cue her stomach grumbled. "It speaks" Jane laughed as she grabbed her wallet and keys opening the door for Maura.
They walked out to the car, Jane holding the door open for Maura before getting in herself. As they drove to the restaurant, they chatted about their day, enjoying the rare evening where they could relax and be just a couple, not weighed down by the pressures of their jobs.
The restaurant was as charming with an intimate atmosphere and a menu that promised a delightful culinary experience. They were quickly seated at a cozy corner table, the soft glow of candlelight adding to the romantic ambiance.
"This place is beautiful," Maura said, glancing around appreciatively.
"Yeah, it's become one of my favorites" Jane agreed, looking at the menu. "Any recommendations, Dr. Isles?"
Maura chuckled. "I think we should start with the escargot and perhaps the coq au vin for the main course."
"Sounds good to me," Jane said, closing her menu.
The waiter came by to take their order, and soon they were sipping on glasses of Bordeaux, enjoying the comfortable silence that often accompanied their time together. Jane reached across the table, taking Maura's hand in hers.
"I know I tease you about taking forever to get ready, but I really do appreciate how much effort you put into things," Jane said, her voice soft.
Maura's eyes softened. "I just want everything to be perfect for us. And I appreciate your patience, Jane. You always make me feel so loved."
Jane smiled, feeling a surge of affection for her wife. "That's because you are loved. More than anything."
Their food arrived, and they spent the next hour enjoying the delicious dishes and each other's company. The conversation flowed easily, touching on their favorite memories, plans for the future, and little things that made them laugh.
As they finished their meal, Jane leaned back in her chair, feeling content. "This was a great idea. We should do this more often."
"I agree," Maura said, her eyes twinkling. "It's important to take time for ourselves and nurture our relationship. Can we have the waiter take our picture before leaving?"
Jane nodded, reaching across the table to take Maura's hand again. "I'm just glad I get to do it all with you. Let's take a picture in the garden out front by the fountain"
Maura squeezed her hand gently. "That sounds perfect. And I love you, Jane." As she lifted her hand to her mouth placing a gentle kiss on the back of Jane's hand.
Maura asked the waiter who was more than happy to take a picture of the stunning couple. He actually took a few poses on Maura's phone and then bid the couple goodbye.
They left the restaurant, walking hand in hand under the city lights, feeling closer than ever. It had been a perfect evening, a reminder of the strength of their bond and the joy they found in each other's company.
As they drove back home, Jane glanced over at Maura, a mischievous smile on her face. "So, how about brunch tomorrow? There's this new place I've been wanting to try."
"Are you sure you can handle another wait?" Maura teased, her eyes sparkling.
Jane laughed. "For you? Always."
They arrived home, the night ending on a high note. As they walked into their house, Jane pulled Maura into a gentle embrace, feeling grateful for every moment they shared.
Yes, fashionably late or not, Maura was always worth the wait, Jane thought to herself as she watched her wife take off her heals looking more and more gorgeous with every day passing.
Later that evening while Maura was sitting in bed reading waiting for Jane to come up to bed, she thought back on the article and realized she had one point in the whipped category and even got the bonus point. She chuckled to herself realizing this was crazy but decided it was innocent fun and was determined to complete the next test.
