Note: Mom is on the way soon, so you will see why they're not speaking for now. Court will be up in a few chapters from now, so stay tuned.
Paul arrived at Perry's office and decided to bring Della up - to - date.
"How did it go with the doctor, Paul?" Della asked.
"Okay. I was able to get a chance to talk with him. He did ask about Perry but agrees with some of us about not working for a while. He thinks it's a good idea Perry doesn't drive anymore for a while because of the accident and his condition he was in."
"That makes sense. Is he allowed to see the car?"
"No, Della. Not for a while until the doctor says he can drive again."
She liked that idea Webber came up with.
"Have you seen the car since it was in the garage?"
"No. I should check in on that, Della. I haven't forgotten that one. The Johnsons haven't driven since we took them into the police station."
"That's a good idea they don't drive for a while either. What have they decided to do with their child when they come to court with us?"
"I don't think I heard anything, but I'm sure they have a plan."
"Whatever it is, they should make it work."
"Let's hope so. I know it would drive everybody crazy if the child was there half the day crying," Paul said.
Della saw he had another good point.
"Paul, can you imagine what it would look like if Perry didn't survive that accident?"
"No. I did talk with Perry about someone stay with him for a while, but he didn't seem to care much about that idea, did but remind me of something."
"What was that?"
"Doc thinks it was a good idea somebody stay with while he gets better. It was a good thing he didn't have to stay in the hospital."
"Isn't that the truth," she agreed.
"I know this case will be in the newspaper for those who probably would miss it if they showed up in the courtroom in a couple days. Good thing we kept Perry anonymous when the accident was mentioned on the news."
"What was Perry's reminder, Paul?"
"Remember that case we had not long ago with his mother being involved?"
"Yes, I do."
"That's what he reminded me. The doctor sounded like he was going to ask if Perry still had family alive to help him out for a while."
"Did you tell him?" Della asked.
"No, I didn't. I don't think there's any reason to update Hamilton right away," Paul told her.
"You mean about the car and Perry?"
"Exactly. Since we took him in right on time, he could be able to heal faster. I don't think I want to share with him about the car yet. I can tell Hamilton, but Perry doesn't need to know right away yet."
"Did he say he would reach out to his mother?"
"Yes, but he sounded like he didn't want to make that call. He thought she might just end hanging up on him when she picks up."
"If my mother were still here and it happened to me, she would just come right away."
Paul had second thoughts.
"You look like you have something on your mind."
"Yes. I think I'll go over and see Hamilton now. Perry doesn't have to show up."
"Good idea to update him on what you found out and told me."
"I'll call him first and let him know I'm coming over."
So he made the call and talked with Hamilton.
"You still going to be at the office?" Paul asked.
"Yes. I'm available now."
"I'm coming over. See you soon."
"I'll see you later, Della. If I don't, then maybe could you check on Perry and see if he's made that phone call to his mother?"
"I will. I can just go over there instead of calling him."
"That's a better idea. If she didn't talk with Perry, you could stay with him for a while."
"I'll have to talk with him about that as well. Good luck, Paul."
"Same with you, Della."
