Zero Hour
It did not take long for everyone to come back from their breaks and settle down in their groups while QAI addressed the audience.
[Welcome back all of you. As of yet no newcomers had been detected and RGQC had ordered me to continue with the show without him as per usual. If you have any questions you may ask now.] QAI said as everyone could only look at each other until Ruby finally spoke.
"Uh QAI, while their armour is cool and awesome, you never mention their rifles at all. I mean uh, no offence but I want to know more about it, please?"
"Now that I think about it sis, why didn't you ask about it earlier?" Yang then asked.
"I got distracted from all the blood and gore." Ruby admitted as she looked down.
"Yea can't blame you Ruby." Jaune then spoke.
[Affirmative. The issued weapons they are using are called gauss rifles, or by its full name, The C-14 Impaler gauss rifle. The C-14 usually fires hypersonic 8 mm armour-piercing metal "spikes" which can penetrate up to two inches of steel plating. The rounds themselves are encased in steel. While the rifle is gauss-assisted, it still utilizes traditional means of firing projectiles such as gunpowder, which is known to cause issues with the rifle when the ammunition becomes wet. The magnetic induction that gives the gauss rifle its name is achieved via a magnetic accelerator pack within the gun.]
"Oh! So their guns use electro-magnets to assist in firing! That makes so much sense now! Oh! And they also use gunpowder? What's that?" Ruby excitedly responded back as Pietro sounded intrigued about it.
"Interesting… So they used electro-magnetic combined with conventional firing mechanisms to help deal with weather conditions? And what is this gunpowder they used?"
[Gunpowder is the earliest known chemical explosive to mankind in their world. It consists of a mixture of sulphur, carbon, and potassium nitrate. Gunpowder has been widely used as a propellant in firearms, artillery, rocketry, and pyrotechnics, including use as a blasting agent for explosives in quarrying, mining, and road building.] QAI explained as everyone could only pay attention with interest at QAI's explanation.
"This turns out more beneficial than I thought." Ironwood muttered as several adults could only nod in agreement. All while several others are writing it down.
[The Impaler is fully automatic with a fire rate of 30 rounds per second, although fully automatic fire is discouraged under most circumstances. A capacitor system is used to fire the weapon in short bursts, conserving ammunition and minimizing power requirements. Due to this, the C-14 rifle has high recoil; CMC armour is designed to suppress this. It overall has the firepower of a sniper rifle and a fire rate of a machine gun.] QAI continues explaining.
"Guess that explains why those guns can kill pretty quickly. Even with their armour." Qrow then responded as Ruby could be heard in the background rambling and at the same time writing on her note book of ideas. Much to the concern of her team. Especially Weiss. Torchwick on the other hand was wondering how much would this kind of tech be worth based on how effective it was in the black-markets.
[If nothing else, we will begin the show.] QAI said as the screen darkens.
The artifact has been successfully liberated from the Dominion. Now Raynor must find a way to get the artifact-and his forces- offworld.
Mar Sara Colony – 12:41 Joeyray's Bar
"Though I wonder how he would achieve it." Pyrrha with curiosity as QAI spoke.
[When it happens, I assure you that you will be in awe at the sight of it.]
"Oh! Does he have his own ship to fly out of her friend QAI?" Penny then asked.
[Who knows. I am barred from giving spoilers.] QAI said as Yang was next to speak.
"But you do know how he got out of this world right? So can you give us a hint?"
[affirmative. I know what is going to happen. But as before, I cannot tell you.]
"Welp, worth a try." Yang resigned.
The screen then lights up in the same bar in which Raynor had always hung out and currently, he and his buddy Tychus are having a conversation.
"So who's your mysterious buyer, Tychus? Who're we supposed to hand this artifact over to?" Raynor asked his buddy Tychus as he explained.
"A bunch of eggheads I ran into called the Moebius Foundation."
"Hehehe, eggheads." Qrow and several of the less mature of the group can't help but chuckle as Pietro was more interested in this 'Moebius Foundation'.
"Moebius? They're a legitimate research group. Why the hell are they talkin' to you?"
"A legitimate research group using a convict to gather artifacts for them? That is strange for them to hire such a person to retrieve such artifacts." Pietro voiced his thoughts as several others agreed with him and nodded their heads.
"As soon as yer boy Mengsk made it illegal to trade in alien goods, they got desperate. And you know me, Jimmy – I am a great patron of the sciences." Tychus finished off as he let out a chuckle.
This earned several ahs as to the reason why the Moebius Foundation hired Tychus.
"I think he is lying about him being 'a great patron of the sciences'." Blake said as Weiss then joined in.
"He is most likely in it for the money no doubt."
It was then that the UUN news network started playing as both buddies then paid attention to it.

"Interesting… Who is this Prince Valerian?" Ozpin said.
[Prince Valerian Mengsk. Son of Arcturus Mengsk.]
"Great... that guy had a kid as well?" Qrow could only grumble as several others frown at the thought of another Mengsk that would take Arcturus's place should he die.
"New super weapon?" Ruby then asked with large amounts of curiosity in her voice.
[Sorry. I am not allowed to reveal it. But master and I know that many of you would like to have it. Especially Ms Rose and Ms Valkyrie here.] (Hint: Make room for the big dog)
"Well I guess we have something to look forward to?" Jaune could only say with uncertainty as Nora could be heard yapping off as poor Ren had to entertain her. As Weiss had to restrain Ruby as she too, was thinking of the possibilities of it.
"Thanks for staying with us. Let's go now to Kate Lockwell with an update on Jim Raynor's violent uprising." Donny said as the TV cuts to Lockwell on Mar Sara.
"Thanks Donny. Raynor's clearly widening his list of targets. He's attacked a Dominion archaeological dig, and possibly seized a dangerous alien artifact."
I suppose it is only a matter of time before the rest of the Dominion knows what he was up to." Ironwood said as Winter nodded in agreement.
"Emperor Mengsk spoke on this subject earlier today." Donny spoke as the TV then cut to Arcturus Mengsk.
"There's no telling what kind of havoc these supposedly innocuous relics might wreak upon our worlds. Anyone found in possession of these items will be dealt with to the fullest extent of the law." Mengsk preached as the TV cuts to Tychus and Raynor.
"I am still surprised that people still believed him massively." Winter then spoke as she listened on to it.
[Mengsk brought down the previous corrupted government while hiding the crimes he committed from the public. In their eyes, Mengsk is a war hero of the people. Thus no one except those who know him personally knew the truth.] QAI said as the screen resumed.
"Look on the bright side, partner; you're a wanted man either way." Tychus assured Raynor that either way, the Dominion would still come after him. Tychus could only say as Raynor responded back to his buddy.
"Thanks, Tychus." Raynor accepted Tychus's assurance as the scene goes back to Vermillion on screen. He said as the screen then went back to Kate
"Shocking, Kate. I imagine civilian casualties were high as a result of Raynor's terrorist actions." Donny said as it cut to Lockwell again.
Realising that her boss is wrong, Kate then tried to explain. "Actually, the only civilian deaths appear to be collateral damage from overzealous Dominion Security Forc-" Only to be cut off back on Vermillion as her camera disappears.
"It seems that Kate Lockwell seems to be more concerned about speaking the truth then hiding it. She is a good example of a journalist." Ozpin spoke as everyone could agree on one thing. Kate is much better than her superior Donny.
"Shame there isn't much like her here in Atlas." Robyn muttered out sadly.
"Thanks Kate! You heard it here first - Jim Raynor, killing women and children on Mar Sara."
"Heh. That's just blatant lies right there. Guess the people just follow them like sheep." Torchwick let out a chuckle at how obvious it was as some of the other watchers could only glare at him.
"Yea sheep, all of them. Now I'm hungry for some lamb." Neo could only say as lambchop appeared in front of her.
As the news moved on to less interesting topics, it was then that Tychus noticed something on the shelf and he could not help himself but ask with amusement in his tone.
"Oh man, didn't the Magistrate here know he was hiring an arch-criminal as his Marshal?" He asked.
"He was countin' on it. Guess my 'tough guy' reputation kept things nice and quiet 'round here." Raynor then responded back before he continued on.
"All the time I wore that badge, I never had to shoot anybody."
"Well where's the fun in that?" Tychus genuinely asked as the idea of not doing anything sounded boring to him. (I guess?)
"Yea, it kind of does sound boring if nothing ever happens at all." Yang admitted.
"I suppose it makes sense if there is some tough guy with a big reputation acting as Marshal. No one would want to mess with him or the law." Blake then followed up.
Tychus then looked at the board and more exactly, at the freedom poster on it. It shows Raynor in his power armour with his fist out all while the slogan says, FIGHT FOR FREEDOM. Tychus could only look at Raynor Before commenting.
"Have to say, Jimmy - you turned into a real impressive fighter. If I was ol' Mengsk, I'd be runnin' scared from you, too."
"You really mean that, Tychus?" Raynor responded back with hope in his voice only for Tychus to ruin it.
"Nah. I was just kiddin'." Tychus denies it as he starts laughing about it as Raynor goes back to his drink.
"Well I guess it makes sense that Mengsk won't be afraid of Raynor so easily." Neo then spoke as she continued eating her lamb.
"But that's just playing with his feelings though." Ruby then counters as both Torchwick and Neo scoff at the same time.
Tychus then looked up at a Hydralisk skull decorated with coloured lights before asking his buddy while the screen pans around the Hydralisk skull.
"Got to admit that looks pretty fancy right there. Despite the fact that it looks really terrifying." Qrow spoke as several others agreed with him.
"What was it like, Jimmy, fightin' them zerg?"
"I have to admit, I am curious how dangerous they are." Glynda then admitted as Raynor said back.
"All the scrapes we were in back in the day, all the narrow escapes…"
" ...none of it compares to how terrible they are, Tychus."
"Are they?"
"You don't know what real fear is 'till you've got a thousand of those sons of bitches barreling down on ya'."
"Ok, now that's actually terrifying to think of." Jaune could only say with fear in his voice as Pyrrha then joined in.
"I have to agree with Jaune. If any of us had to deal with thousands of Grimm at once, we would be in trouble." She said as many others around her nodded in agreement. Being drowned in a tide of thousands of Grimm would be a horrifying fate for anyone.
"I have to agree friend Pyrrha! There's a very high chance of us getting overwhelmed by them from sheer numbers. Even with veteran Huntsman at our side." Penny then joined in while still sounding as enthusiastic as ever.
Tychus then looked back at the board and noticed another photo that portrays several men posting next to a Hydralisk head all while with a red marker that reads. 'ONE UGLY MOTHER'.
"Yea. I can agree. These Zerg sure can be ugly looking huh?" Qrow commented as Nora joined in.
"One Big Ugly Mother!"
"NORA!"
"What's this? I heard them Zerg got burned out by them creepy Protoss a few years back." Tychus commented about it.
"Well the prologue did say that the Zerg just went quiet right?" Ruby then spoke with a hint of worry of what is to come."
"This is true kiddio, but why is the question."
"Oh! They probably went to sleep!" Nora then joined in.
"For four years? I think we are all missing something." Ren then decided to step in.
"It's been four years, and they're still finding burrowed dens out in the wastelands." Raynor then explained.
"Burrowed dens?" Weiss questioned as QAI finally decided to join in.
[The Zerg have the ability to burrow themselves underground, so there are cases in which both the Protoss and Terrans have walked right into a Zerg ambush and they won't realise it until it is too late.] QAI explained as all of them could only fear the Zerg even more. The idea of burrowing Grimm popping up out of nowhere is scary to the students.
"Headmaster Ozpin, are there any Grimm that can burrow?" Ruby then asked.
"Hmm…. Not that we are aware of." Ozpin admitted as he rubbed his chin.
"I don't like the sound of that." Yang mumbled.
"Well, a trophy like thats gotta' fetch a good price on the black market. Up for some huntin', partner?" Tychus then asked his partner.
"Black market eh? I wonder what they could get out of the Zerg anyways. They don't look tasty anyways." Torchwick then spoke as Neo then joined him.
"I guess their claws and teeth could be turned into ivory? I honestly have no idea."
"Knock yourself out, Tychus. Me, I've hunted enough Zerg for two lifetimes." Raynor said as he pressed the console near him as the screen brought up as his personal Adjutant then gave a debriefing.
"With the artifact secure you need to wait for transport at Backwater Station before you can leave Mar Sara. Transportation is on the way. Caution is advised - Dominion security forces may succeed in tracking the artifact to the station."
"Makes sense that the Dominion would not let Raynor get away with their artifact." Ironwood stated it as fact.
"That you are correct sir."
The screen then darkens before lighting up to show Raynor and his buddy Tychus looking at the screen.
"But I can't help but get a bad feeling of what's to come…" Ironwood continued as he narrowed his eyes. This is getting way too easy and something is not right. (Oh you have no idea Iron daddy.)
"I've got transport coming to pick us up, all we gotta do is sit tight." Raynor said as he looked at his partner who responded back.
"So they basically just have to wait until their ride comes?" Blake then said as QAI responded back.
[Yes.] QAI said with no hesitation.
"Don't sound too hard. I figure we earned ourselves a little RR -" Tychus was in the middle of his speech only to be interrupted by the Adjutant who interrupted him.
"Commander, I'm detecting a massive concentration of Zerg bio-signatures landing at the abandoned dig site." Adjutant said as the screen cuts to show the abandoned dig site as Sacs (yes they are called that) made out of flesh that pulses began to rain down and crash onto the ground before Zerg began to emerge from the crash site.
"Ugh! What are those things where the Zerg come from!?" Weiss yelled out in disgust as poor Jaune started to feel sick as to others.
"QAI, I must ask, are the Zerg purely a biological race?" Pietro had to ask.
[Affirmative, as a species, they can adapt very quickly to any type of situation. It is the reason why they are so dangerous as well as them spreading like a plague. As for your question Weiss, those are Zerg Sacs. Zerg answer to invading planets via drop pods.] QAI explained as the screen resumed.
"I shoulda known it! Damn you, Tychus!" Raynor then accused his partner of getting the Zerg somehow involved as Tychus defended himself.
"I swear, man - I didn't know nothin' about no zerg!" Tychus said as Raynor's Adjutant continued on.
"Given their current course, the Zerg will overrun this location within the hour." Adjutant warned as more Zerg Sacs could be seen raining down as Hydralisk and Zerglings could be seen on the move. At the same time, there was something morphing among the crash site of the Sacs.
"Am I seeing something growing inside the crash site?" Ruby could only ask as Penny then answered.
"You are right friend Ruby. There is something growing rapidly among the crash site and I projected that whatever it is, it would be ready in a couple of minutes."
"Whatever it is kid, it is not good for the locals here." Qrow then spoke.
"Hell... We gotta hold out long enough for extraction." Raynor said as he continued to explain the plan.
"If we man the bunkers and hold those two bridges as long as we can we just might stand a chance." Raynor said as the scene changed to show a base with numerous bunkers as marines could be seen running into it as a truck could be seen carrying the artifact into the base.
"Interesting… So these are what the Terrans used to hold defences?" Ironwood asked as Winter could be seen writing it down as QAI explained."
[Affirmative. Bunkers are low-domed structures that may be constructed with paristeel or neosteel plating. They may be built almost anywhere using manufacturing processes which are standard for SCVs. Once erected the armour plating makes them very difficult to take apart. They are good at allowing the Terrans to hold the ground.]
"Interesting… Then what about this Paristeel or neosteel?" Pietro then asked.
[Neosteel is an exceptionally durable material utilized by the Terrans in all their equipment. It is usually made from the Minerals the Terrans collected and is mixed with other materials to create tough alloys.] (not much info was given on Neosteel. If you find some, Please post it on the reviews for everyone to see.)
"Fascinating…" Pietro could only mumble out loud as the screen continued on.
"We're gonna have a real fight on our hands here."
"I been in plenty of hold-outs before…" Tychus said as several marines could be seen entering the bunker as it closes onto itself as lights could be seen inside it.
"Not against the Zerg, you ain't." Raynor retorted as the screen went dark.
"It can't be that bad right?" Jaune could only ask.
"I suppose there's only one way to find out." Weiss then spoke.
The screen then lights up again to show Raynor's base as numerous civilians could be seen abandoning their homes and were running into the base and towards the Command Centre for shelter from the Zerg, as SCVs could be seen getting to work and began gathering minerals or working on a supply deposit. AT the time, there were also missile turrets spinning around and idling as well.
"I must ask but I noticed that the Terrans bases we had seen so far always build those buildings. What are they?" Ozpin then asked.
[Those are supply depots. They were standard for military bases and possessed a universal design. This design was that of a low, one-story, metal-clad structure, a spacious waiting area and a counter separating said area from the storage racks on the other side. Such storage includes weapons, ammunition and even SCVs.] QAI gave a pause before continuing on.
[On hotter planets, the supply depot's supercharged ventilation systems makes it a popular spot for off-duty marines to drink and relax.]
"If I'm correct from what we heard, they are necessary for any Terran base to build an army." Ironwood then spoke.
[Correct.]
At the same time, a time appeared at the top right corner of the theatre as it says, 'Evacuation in, 20:00'
"So this is how long they have to last till they can evaluate huh?" Robyn absentmindedly said as Jaune then joined in.
"Seems more like those kind of defence games where you hold the line until the clock strikes zero." He pointed out as several others agreed with him.
"Don't worry Jaune Jaune! They shall not pass!" Nora then yelled out as QAI thought to itself.
[Did Miss Valkyrie just make an unintentional Lord of the Rings joke?]
At the same time, Marines could be seen garrisoning bunkers as Zerg screeching and hissing could be heard in the distance. Small Zerg creatures that are covered in toughened skin with sickle limbs and sharp claws could be seen charging straight for the defensive lines as the camera zooms towards one of the marines in the bunker yelling.
What are those things?! They look like insects but they are not!" Yang yelled out at how disturbing they actually looked.
[Those are Zerglings, smallest of the Zerg Strains yet one of the most dangerous in numbers.]
"Smallest!?" Some can't help but yell.
"Here they come, lock and load!" He yelled as his buddies in the bunker began firing at the Zerglings and filling them with bullets as one or two of the Zerglings made it to the line and managed to slash a part of the bunker open much to the surprise of the marines inside the bunker. At the same time, an SCV could be seen making its way towards the bunkers.
As for our dear audience? They were getting used to the sight of blood but they could close one eye as they were killing hostile aliens. Especially Nora who seemed very enthusiastic about smashing them with her Hammer. Much to Ren's worry as Raynor could be heard.
"Get some SCVs repairing those bunkers!" He yelled out as SCVs could be seen moving in and patching up the bunker as another SCV could be seen building another Barracks next to the Bunker much to everyone's confusion.
"Uhh what is Raynor doing?" Ruby could only ask as they watched as the Barracks got built."
[Jim Raynor is doing what some Terrans would call walling. It is a tactic of using their own structures to act as a wall to hold off enemies. It has proven to be very effective against swarming enemies like Zerglings as they would be blocked from getting any closer.]
"Interesting… Winter, copy it down. It could be used to hold the Grimm off."
"Understood sir."
"But how would they cross the bridge if they walled it off?" Pietro then asked but QAI kept quiet."
It was then that a Marines visor appeared at the side of the screen as he called for help.
"To anyone hearing this message, we're pinned down near Backwater Station! Please assist!" He yelled out as the screen then panned to show several marines that kept their guns pointed at the roads.
"Hmm… They seem terrified at the roads themselves. I think there might be Zerg burrowed there if that's the reason why they called for help." Ozpin concluded as Tychus's face appeared on side of the screen.
"Multiple air bogies detected! ETA: Right the hell now!" Tychus yelled out as the screen then panned towards several winged Zerg (Aka Mutalisk.) flying towards the base as they let out a screech that caused poor Blake to cover her bow. Much to the worry of the others.
"Swear!" Ruby yelled out.
"Whoa! And what are these ugly things?" Nora then asked.
[Those are Mutalisk. They are the Swarms light flyers and attack with corrosive 'smart' missiles]
"Smart Missiles?" Ruby then asked with a hint of curiosity.
[The projectile the Mutalisk is called glaive wurm, or glaive wurm. They are semi-sentient parasites utilized by Mutalisk. Mutalisk attack by firing the parasites with great force. The parasites may bounce off and strike multiple targets while disintegrating explosively, able to ravage entire armies.] QAI explained.
"First of all ew. Second of all, then where are they made?" Yang then asked.
[You… It is best you do not know, for your sake…] QAI spoke with hesitation. (Turns out the Mutalisk uses its womb to store said parasite or make them... Fucking ew.)
"It can't be that bad right?" Yang pressed the issue as QAI refused to say anymore as the screen resumed. (Pls don't Yang, don't scar yourself or everyone here with memories on how they are stored.)
Mutalisks could be seen screeching as it then launched their projectiles and as advertised, the glaive wurms could be seen bouncing on the missile turret, bunkers and one poor SCV who happened to be there. (Don't worry about him, he's still alive.)
At the same time, The missile turret responded in kind as it launched its Longbolt missiles at the Mutalisks. Turning said flyers into minced meat as their bits fell back onto the ground and some fell down the cliff instead as some of the audience could be heard cheering.
"YEA! BIG BOOM!" Nora exclaimed out loud as her team would have to calm her down as she was getting way too excited at the sight of big explosions. Those who are not familiar with Nora could only pity her team when they would have to deal with her.
After that Mutalisk attack, Some of the marines and some newly trained medics headed north to help rescue some marines that were trapped by burrowed Zerg. As they slowly approached towards the stranded group of marines, the ground erupted as Zerglings and Hydralisk could be seen emerging from their burrows and charged towards the rescue squad.
"They're coming from the ground! Blast them!" One of them yelled as all of them opened fire on the coming Zerg as the Hydralisk opened fire back with their spines and hit some of the marines who were quickly patching up as they continued on towards trapped marines.
"Oh oum that's terrifying!" Yang would only yell at the sudden appearance of Zerg hiding among the ground as several others were recovering from the surprise as well.
"I suppose there is a way to detect these burrowed Zerg. Am I right QAI?" Ozpin then spoke.
[Correct. Detectors can spot burrowed units but as of yet, Raynor does not have it. Only his Missile turrets can spot burrowed Zerg as of now.] QAI explained as Ruby looked really unnerved.
"Ruby? Are you alright?" Yang could only ask as to how her sister was doing.
"Huh? Uh, yeah, I'm fine." Ruby answered back with slight fear in her voice as Yang pulled her into a hug.
[I apologize if any of you experienced any trauma on how terrifying the Zerg are. If so, I can request master to send Aries to pick you up and have the rest of the day to recover and do your own thing until tomorrow.] QAI said as all of them were curious who this Aries was.
"Aries?"
[Do not worry much about it. We can talk more about Aries later, let us resume] QAI said as the squad arrived at the trapped marines.
"Ah, thought we were goners there!" The marine's visor appeared as they joined the squad as they pulled back to see another bunker at the eastern bridge as well as a supply depot.
"Looks like they are stuck huh?" Torchwick then spoke as he continued smoking in his corner.
"Well I don't think they would just leave them outside Torchwick." Neo then spoke as well.
As the squad of marines and medics approached the walled defences, as if by command, the supply depot then suddenly retracted back into the ground much to everyone's surprise.
"Interesting so they use their supply deposits like makeshift gates?" Pietro then spoke as pretty much everyone got very interested that a building suddenly went underground with only parts of it still visible.
"You know, when I watch this show. I did not expect to see a building disappear like that." Qrow admitted as he took a sip of his alcohol.
"That we are in agreement, Qrow." Ozpin then said as Pietro could be seen in the background silently asking Penny to copy the designs.
At this point, Raynor had 14 minutes until evacuation as another marine's visor appeared at the corner of the screen as he called for help.
"Mayday, mayday! We're trapped by the Zerg, they've burrowed all around us! If you can reach us, please help!" In an instant of receiving this transmission a larger squad of marines could be seen gathering at the western bridge as more medics could be seen joining in. At the same time, the Zerg attack waves had started to increase as time went by.
As soon as all of them were ready to go on to another rescue mission. The Barracks used to block a large part of the western part of the base suddenly lifted off the ground allowing for the rescue team to move across the western bridge before dropping back down into the ground.
"Well that checks into a list of weird things I've seen today…" Weiss admitted as a couple of the audience could only chuckle slightly at how all of them just saw a building flying up a couple meters off the ground before landing back down.
Now that they know that the Zerg were waiting, the rescue squad then approached the second group that needed rescuing with caution while also taking out a Zergling wave that just happened to get in the way. It did not take long for them to reach the next group of marines and a medic and as before, the Zerg erupted from the ground but they were prepared. As soon as Zergling and Hydralisk popped out of the ground, they were immediately filled with lead.
As that was going on, the screen then panned towards Raynor's base which had only increased in size as there were more supply depots and Barracks, being built as more marines and medics could be seen patrolling around while SCVs could be seen building missile turrets at the corners of the base in preparation of Mutalisk attacks.
Torchwick could be heard whistling at the sight of how large the base got within a couple of minutes. "Gotta give them credit where credit is due. They work fast."
It was then that a marine's visor appeared on screen as he thanked the rescue group. "Man, are you a sight for sore eyes. Hold up, we're coming with you!" He said as the screen paned back at the rescue squad moving back as they walked passed some creep that seemed to slowly getting closer and closer towards the base.
"Ew… what even is this purple thing oh oum it's so gross and I think it's alive." Poor Ruby could only say as she shutters from how slimy it was and it does not help that the purple slimy carpet was acting as if it is alive. Many others could only agree with her as QAI then explained.
[What you see is creep, a living Zerg superorganism that helps give sustenance to most Zerg buildings which are effectively giant organs. Zerg units can gain nourishment from the creep and without it resort to consuming other organisms, even one another, to survive. Creep also has a network of neural connections, alerting the nearby hive of incoming intruders] QAI explained as everyone, even Ozpin were disturbed at what this means.
"Wait wait wait, are you saying that this slimy thing is alive!" Yang could only yell out.
"So does it mean that the Zerg are aware of the rescue group pulling back?" Penny then asked without any resounding fear in her. (cos she is an android)
[Unfortunately yes. The Zerg are fully aware of them.] QAI said as the screeching of Zerglings could be heard charging towards the out of position group.
"Zerg! Get moving!" One of the marines yelled out as they quickly ran towards the walled position as the Barracks took off to allow the group to quickly run inside. The Barracks then drop back down as an even larger group of Zerglings could be seen barring down on them with packs of Hydralisk following right behind them.
"Jeeze, how many do they have to be so willing to toss them like this?!" Torchwick could only ask at how the Zerg waves seemed endless and were getting larger each wave.
[The Zerg are called the swarm for a reason. Their most common tactic is to overwhelm their enemies with just pure numbers. If that does not work, well… They have alternatives in dealing with them.] QAI explained.
"Even the Grimm would stop attacking after a while." Weiss said.
The evacuation timer then struck 10 minutes as Raynor's face could be seen appearing as he assured his men. "Keep at it boys, our ride's on its way."
"10 more minutes of this endless horror. Hooray." Neo sarcastically says out as more Zerg continuously attempts to break the defences only to be gunned down while also setting one of the bunkers on fire due to the amount of damage it took.
"Well that's not good if they nearly got that bunker." Jaune then spoke as SCVs could be seen rushing to repair the damages.
It was then that the last group of survivors called for help. "We need immediate support! Hostiles all around us. Is anyone out there!?" A panicked marine called out as they were suddenly attacked by a Mutalisk flock. As they desperately tried to shoot it down while the missile turret next to them also opened fire on it.
"Oh no! They need help!" Ruby could only yell out as several others also were concerned about what would happen to the stranded survivors who were surrounded by Zerg and were also being attacked by a Mutalisk flock.
The group of Marines and medics then quickly moved off as the go guns blazing while leaving only Zerg corpses in their way as all of them quickly made their way to the stranded people who had just dealt with the Mutalisk flock only to now deal with Zerglings coming from them. (That really happened somehow in my game...)
But in the end, they were saved and all of them with only one marine in critical health but he was immediately patched up by medics with full energy. It was then that Raynor ordered them that none of the audience thought he would. He got his army of marines and medics to attack the northern hive cluster.
"Wait, what is Raynor planning to do?" Nora then asked as Jaune's eyes widened.
"I think he is going to strike the Zerg first."
"Why would he do it?" Pyrrha then joined in as she asked her partner/crush.
"If Raynor can do a decisive blow to the Zerg, it would give his base breathing room from all the endless attacks by the Zerg."
"You make a good point." Ironwood complemented Jaune who blushes slightly before he continues on. "By destroying the Zerg base, he would only need to focus on one front instead of being attacked from all directions. Smart."
"Sooo basically destroy them before they destroy us?" Ruby was next to speak as Glynda nodded.
"Correct Miss Rose. Though… I can't help but wonder what they would find at that Zerg base. QAI mentions that going into creep covered land means that the Zerg would be fully aware of what is going on." Glynda explained as the screen resumed.
As all of them made their way north, countless Zerglings could be seen screeching and charging directly at them, yet they pushed forward, killing every Zerg that got into their way. Until…
They reach their hive cluster. Giant biological structures could be seen breathing as it was alive while moving and twitching as living beings do. Drones that seemed to deftly gravity as they could be seen swimming through the air with minerals in their claws. Weird balloon like Zerg could be seen watching and also floating away from the fight. There were also massive tentacles that had a bone tipped blade and large tube-like structures that seemed to be dotted around the base.
There was also a massive worm-like head sticking out of the ground as more Zerglings could be seen exiting out its mouth and through its maw which was filled to the brim with teeth. Also there were green eggs located at what the viewers could guess is their main hive.
The sight of the Zerg's base made pretty much everyone pale and especially poor Blake. Her animal instincts are screaming at her to get away from what she had seen.
"Oh oum! That's actually really chilling!" Neo was the first to speak her mind.
"That is really unnerving that the buildings themselves are breathing." Robyn then spoke as she tried to suppress the chill that went up her spine.
As for our students? Ruby was trembling in fear and so was Blake. Yang was trying her hardest to keep calm while Weiss was trying to process everything she had seen so far. Nora was also trembling and making whimpering noises as she clung onto Ren who had to use his semblance to keep calm. Jaune was feeling really queasy and sicken as well. (IT'S THE WHOLE PACKAGE!) And Pyrrha was trying her best to not freak out at how horrifying they looked. This also goes for the adults who were really unnerved by the infestation the Zerg did. The whole ground is covered in creep and no lifeforms could be seen inside it. As if, all of it were consumed by it.
QAI, realising the situation, activated its emotion suppressor systems to help the audience in dealing with the extent of the Zerg's infestation and terror. In an instant, everyone had 'mostly' recovered from their first encounter except Penny, who remained unaffected by the Zerg overall. And was instead trying to get a read on the biological makeup of the Zerg and only getting errors in response. Much to her surprise.
[I have activated emotion suppressors. You should no longer be as affected by the Zerg as badly as before.] QAI stated as everyone regained their breath.
"I believe that I can say for everyone. Thank you QAI. That would indeed help us." Ozpin said as most of the viewers could only nod their heads in agreement. Including Torchwick and Neo.
"QAI?" Ruby then aske with unease in her voice. "Do you think that after this viewing we can take a break?"

[Affirmative. I have discussed with master and he said that after this viewing, you would have a day's break to recover from this experience.]
"That is much appreciated. I really could use a day's break after this… introduction to the Zerg." Weiss then spoke out as she and Penny could be seen comforting Ruby who was still shivering as Yang checked on her partner who was no better thanks to her animal instincts.
"That we are in agreement sister." Winter agreed as she wiped the sweat of fear out of her forehead.
"Incoming Zerg! Blast em!" One of the marines yelled out as all of them began firing on Zerglings and Hydralisk defending the base while at the same time, shooting directly into the Zerg structures who began to spasm in pain which only creeped out the audience even more.
"I am still impressed that their rounds are actually doing damage to the… living… breathing structures at all." Ironwood said as QAI joins in.
[This is possible because the Marines are using hollow point spread bullets. These kind of bullets flatten and expand on impact for maximum wounding efficiency. Perfect against anything biological, especially Zerg. Though be careful if you decide to make them. They can easily kill anyone with one bullet.] QAI explained as Ruby could be seen scribbling it down as well as Pietro and Winter. The idea of bullets that can kill easier would benefit against Grimm, though the idea of it being used against another human/faunus does make them concerned about it.
As the marines continue to blast everything in their path, several Zerg structures begin to rupture and explode, sending out blood and gore all over the place. This had the side effect of making some of the viewers queasy as there is so much blood all over the place.
At the same time, Spine crawlers could be seen retaliating and killing marines in two shots or one if they hit the head, though they were quickly focused upon, turning them into minced meat. At the same time, small ray-like Zerg with claws could be seen emerging out of the destroyed buildings and charged/crawled towards the marine medic army, only to get blasted down to bits.
"Yea! Big disgusting thing go BOOM! SPLAT! YEEEAAAH!" Nora cheered on while somehow not being affected by all the Blood and gore compared to before.
"What are those things that came out of the destroyed structures?" Ozpin curiously asked.
[Those are broodings, they tend to show up when a main Zerg structure is destroyed and will attack any nearby enemies nearby, they attack until either they or their targets are destroyed. However, due to their supercharged aggression and metabolism, they tend to have a fixed lifespan as their bodies would begin to break down from the strain in seconds.]
"Great… basically a last screw you from them."
"Swear!" Ruby couldn't help herself but to yell out.
"Whatever red." Torchwick scoffed.
As the fighting was going on in the Zerg base, the evacuation timer strikes 5 minutes as Raynor's face pops up. "Hold out just a little longer! We'll be getting outta here soon!" He said as marines and medics could be heard cheering as they wiped out the northern base. Leaving bits of Zerg everywhere and their losses which were taken back.
At the same time, they encountered a strange site of an outhouse all alone there. Not covered in creep but just there for some reason at the edge of the cliffs with two trees one each side of it.
"Uh, why is there an outhouse there?" Jaune could only ask with confusion as everyone else could only share his thoughts on it.
"Weird…"
"What is it doing there?" Winter could only ask.
"Is anyone in there?"
As two marines slowly walked towards it with their rifles pointed directly at it, the outhouse shook as someone could be heard inside it.
"Huh? Who's out there? Got to moooove it out!" Said person doesn't really sound like a person as the outhouse shook once…

As the outhouse shook for the third time, it suddenly shot into the air as hidden thrusters hidden beneath the outhouse sprang to life as it launched straight into the air. Confusing pretty much everyone that saw it.
As for our dear audience? Their thoughts could be summarised as 'what'.
"Uh what?" Ruby was the first to speak after a period of silence by everyone. Even Ozpin was really confused by what he saw.
"Can someone tell me what happened?" Jaune then joined in.
"I… uh… I have no idea what I just saw Jaune…" Pyrrha was next.
"That seemed really out of place… Even the marines and medics are confused…" Blake pointed out.
"I guess we could say, just roll with it?" Yang made a toilet pun as pretty much everyone sighed.
"Oh for Oums sakes." Weiss muttered.
"QAI? Can you tell us what happened?" Glynda then asked.
[This was not in the recording…] QAI said with confusion as much as an AI could.
"I suppose this is a joke your master put in?" Winter then said.
[I would need to check with him… data indicates that this story was the unmodified version. This means that this actually happened…] QAI continues to talk about.
"That makes me question whoever would design an outhouse to have thrusters on it."
"I think we should just pretend that it never happened in the first place. I am getting a headache thinking about it." Neo then spoke as she rubbed her head.
"I am honestly really confused." Robyn then said as the screen resumed.
"I must have drank too much if I am seeing this kind of thing." Qrow said as he stared at his bottle.
"Mark, what on earth was that?" One of the marines asked.
"You ask me, I ask you. How the hell am I supposed to know about that?!" Another marine retorted.
"Both of ya, cut it! Let's just return to base!" One of them yelled at both of them as everyone quickly moved back to base as the ground began to shake and the skies began to darken from the approaching swarms.
"The ground is shaking. Something is coming towards their location…" Ironwood muttered as his friend then spoke.
"I have to agree. I believe it was that giant worm like Zerg we saw at their hive earlier. QAI?"
[You are correct Ozpin. Nydus worms are on approach to their location rapidly. They are the Zerg's underground rapid transit system.] QAI said as everyone could now only worry as they had seen that worm earlier spewing Zerglings.
As they made their way back towards the base, they could see Zerg creep slowly making their way towards the base as Spine crawlers could be seen walking before they stopped and started to root themselves as more Mutalisk could be seen assaulting the base itself.
"Hold up, some of their buildings can move?" Yang then spoke as they all saw the Spine Crawler finally roots into place."
[Affirmative, Zerg defensive structures can reposition when needed. However they can't attack when uprooted and need to reroot to begin attacking again.]
"Interesting" Pietro mumbled to himself.
It did not take long for them to retreat into the base as now the Zergling are coming endless as the evacuation timer reached one minute as a young man with a clean-cut hairstyle wearing a military uniform with a wool sweater underneath it.
"Commander, this is Matt Horner. Just hold on! Cavalry's on the way!" He said as more Zerg sacs could be seen raining down from the skies as Nydus Worms could be seen erupting from the ground outside of the base while releasing their contents of Zerglings and Hydralisk.
"Take your time, Matt. No rush!" Raynor responded back as the defensive line held on.
"Well he better hurry cos there's a lot of Zerg coming for them." Torchwick could only say as Zerglings could be seen charging at the defensive lines.
"Way way too much for comfort." Neo then spoke as all of them could only see a tide of flesh and claws barring down on Raynor's base as it desperately and many of them could only dread the feeling of the Grimm doing the same to any of the kingdoms. (Expect Torchwick and Neo. Both of them are more concerned about their lives and not the kingdoms.)
"They are unending!" Jaune could only yell out as some of the Sacs landed inside the base themselves which caused some of the marines to quickly pull back to shoot them before they attack the civilians in the base who were now running into the Command Centre as things were getting really messy outside.
As the timer began to reach 10 seconds left, multiple Nydus worms suddenly erupted within the base itself as everyone scrambled to kill the worms that just erupted from the ground below while Mutalisk could be seen in large flocks descending upon the base.
"Even Grimm don't mass to this amount!" Penny could only say as everyone could say the same.
"Atlas defences would be overrun if they have to deal with this!" Ironwood couldn't help but lose his composure as QAI just had to make it worse.
[This is just the basic Zerg strains and a few more slightly more advanced strains. Once they bring their even more advanced Strains (Aka Ultralisk), bases like this would fall to them.]
"These are just their basic units!?" All of them couldn't help but yell in shock.
[We are almost done for today, let us resume.] QAI said as the evacuation timer hits zero.
In an instant, the camera then bends towards the sky as a massive battlecruiser shows up before grounding to a halt as its hull glows slightly from the friction of entering orbit. It's laser battery turrets began blasting every single Zerg as it could as it moved towards the base. Zerglings making their way towards the base could be seen being turned into ash as the lasers could also be seen shooting Mutalisks out of the skies.
"AWESOME! Help is here!" Ruby could cheer with stars in her eyes at how effective the laser batteries against the Zerg were as many others could only watch with awe that Raynor's rescue is a freaking spaceship.
"SPACESHIP!" Nora could only yell out as Ren could be seen reigning her in.
"I predict that such ships have a massive carrying capacity." Penny said as QAI confirmed.
[Starships like this can carry up to six thousand crew members or more if needed.]
"That's really intriguing." Ozpins could only mutter as Qrow just had to ask.
"I wonder if they had a bar in there."
And of course Winter retorted. "Of course you think about that of all things."
"No matter, I want my own ship!" Yang can't help but say as most of the students agreed. Having your own ship sounds awesome.
"Cavalry's arrived! Anyone still alive down there?" Matt asked as the Hyperion stopped over the base and turned all the Nydus worms into ash.
"Good to see ya, Matt! Welcome to the party!" Raynor welcomed his second as Matt spoke again.
"Glad we made it in time, Sir. Now let's get you boys outta there." He said as the screen turned dark.
Mar Sara Colony - 06:21 Local Time
The screen then lights up to show the Hyperion is shooting against a swarm of attacking Mutalisk as it drifts through the air as it then cuts to the door.
"That's a lot of Mutalisk attacking his ship." Qrow pointed out as the screen continues on inside the Hyperion.
Said door then opens up to show Raynor and his partner Tychus walking into the bridge of the Hyperion as Tychus could be heard speaking with awe in his voice.
"Damn, Jimmy, you've been holding out on me." He said as the screen then cuts to Raynor who turned to address his second.
"Cuttin it pretty close there, Matt." Raynor said as he put the cigar into his mouth as Matt then turned to face his commander as the ship shakes slightly.
"Never left you hanging before, sir." Matt then responded back as Raynor then gave his order.
"Fair enough. Just get us the hell outta here!" Raynor said after taking out his cigar from his mouth.
Matts gave a small smirk as he gave orders all while the music could be heard ramping up.
"Where is this music coming from?" Weiss could only ask.
"Don't be such a spoilsport. It sounds awesome!" Yang told her teammate who just grumbled slightly.
"All batteries concentrate forward firepower." The scene cuts to show the Hyperion's front turrets shooting faster than before cutting back. "Spin up drives two and six!" Matt spoke as he extended his hand out as it then showed in perspective of one of the turrets shooting down a Mutalisk before going back to Matt. "All hands brace for warp jump on my mark!" He ordered as he then looked at his watch as its hand was about to strike a minute.
"Oh man I did not know that they could make it so dramatic!" Jaune could only say as the music made it even more intense.
Raynor then could be seen narrowing his eyes with a cigar in his mouth as Tychus could be seen grabbing onto a handle as he gritted his teeth. It then shows the Hyperion shooting at the Mutalisk swarm for the last time before cutting to Matt who gave the final order.
"Mark!"
Matt gave the final order as the Hyperion entered warp jump as the screen changes to show Tychus being surprised by the warp jump as it stretched out. The screen then changes to show the warping out as it send all the Mutalisk flying out of control from the Hyperion warping out. It then showed an empty space as flashes of light could be seen before the Hyperion exited warp jump far from Mar Sara.
"That was awesome!" Nora yelled out as pretty much everyone agreed with her.
"That's quite the experience." Glynda admitted.
"This is quite entertaining don't ya agree?" Torchwick then asked his henchwoman.
"It is, despite how terrifying this world can be."
"What the hell happened? We ain't seen the zerg in years. Why attack Mar Sara now?" Raynor asked Matt as to why the Zerg are back.
"It's not just Mar Sara. You need to see this." Matt said as he turned on a small screen on the side of the star map console.
"-Zerg swarm launched a full-scale attack-" "-Devastation spread throughout all outer rim planets-" "-Sustained heavy losses-" "-Casualties in the billions-" The news goes on as Raynor's face showed a hint of fear in it. As it goes back to the console.
"Billions!?" All of them could only yell out in shock at the amount of lives lost from the Zerg when they returned.
[Yes, the Zerg kill anyone that stands in their way. Others are captured to have an even worse fate.] QAI said.
"Worse fate? I do not like this." Blake then spoke as the screen resumed.
"-Minutes ago the Zerg attacked a Dominion military research facility-" The reporter could only say as it too was cut out by an explosion in the background. All while Tychus could be seen walking in uttering what everyone could be thinking at the time.
"Sweet mother of mercy." He said as Raynor looked at his partner before looking back at the console screen.
"-New, exclusive video footage confirms the Queen of Blades is in fact leading the swarm!" Kate could be head speaking as the footage shows the Queen of Blades looking at the camera as it loops multiple times before the footage cuts out. All while shifting to Raynor sitting down on a chair as he places his hand on his face.
"We always knew she'd be back. But what's she after?" Matt asked his commander who did not respond at first before as the screen zoomed in on his eyes.
"She's come to finish the job."
And with that, the screen cuts to black.
The theatre light came on as QAI spoke.
[And we are done for now. Aries is on route and will be here to escort you soon.]
"I suppose his revolution would be delayed for now that the Zerg are now involved." Ozpin said.
"So what happens next?" Weiss then asked.
[We will resume a day later at the request of Ruby Rose and the approval of master.]
"So you are letting us rest?" Ren then asked.
[Yes you may use any of the rooms provided to you at your leisure. It appears that Aries has arrived.] QAI said as a portal appeared as an adorable sheep with rainbow wool dropped down as it let out a baaaa.
"Is that a-" Blake could only halfway ask as all her teammates got off the seats and rushed towards Aries to pet it's wool as Nora also joined in much to everyone's surprise that RGQC sent a rainbow sheep to pick them up.
"Rainbow sheep!" Nora yelled out
"Baaa?" Aries could only say with surprise as the girls could only coo at how soft and fluffy Aries's wool are.
"Its wool is so soft!" Ruby could only say as the other's joined in.
"It's adorable," Weiss then spoke.
"QAI, is this a joke? You can expect me to believe that Aries is our guide?" Ironwood said with a hint of disbelief.
Unfortunately, Aries heard that and in an instant, Aries shot towards Ironwood's face as its wool caught fire much to everyone's surprise.
"Baaaaaa…." Aries let out an angry baaa as it stares down upon Ironwood.
"AH! Burning rainbow sheep! Put it out!" Nora yelled out in surprise and to the shock of everyone else.
[Aries refrain from attacking our guest. Master's orders.] QAI sternly said as the fire that surrounded Aries was put out before it teleported back to the front of the stage. A cloud of smoke then surrounded Aries before dispersing revealing a girl that looked like she is the same age as Ruby with long rainbow hair and feminine dress. Aries also possessed golden eyes that betray her's age.
"Sheepy is now a girl?!" Nora could not help herself but ask as everyone could only agree.
Ozpin's eyes widened when Aries changed form in front of them. He could tell that Aries was using magic to change her form.
"Hello there, my name is Aries and it is a pleasure to meet all of you." Aries said as he bowed.
[Note for all. Aries is a boy.] QAI spoke as everyone was caught off guard.
"Wait what! Aries is a guy?!" Yelled out as everyone thought that Aries was a girl due to his long rainbow coloured hair and feminine clothing. (Get trapped!)
"He does look good in it though…" Blake mumbled to herself as Nora could be heard yelling.
"YEAAAA! WE HAVE A MAGICAL RAINBOW SHEEP!"
Aries just gave a giggle as he called all of them. "Yes I am a dude. We can continue talking more about me later. Let's go. "Aries said as he walked towards the exit as everyone followed him.
And we are done with Zero Hour and the introduction of the Zerg. So how did I do for this chapter? Do you guys like how it is going? Next chapter we would get more characters to join us. I was thinking of getting Coco and her gang or some of the adults to join us. What do you think?
Anyways, I got some news to tell ya. First of all, the Covid-19 situation somehow got out of hand and now the gov is getting stricter rules to limit it but…. There were rumours going on in my camp that another circuit breaker may be coming (Aka 2nd lockdown)
If that is actually the truth, I would have to stay at camp for at least a week which would fuck over my upload sequel and would delay this and my other work. So hopefully that won't be the case.
Also this chapter is over 10k words. Kinda makes me dread when we go into the later mission where it would take quite a while to complete.
