Chapter Three: Take The Snakeway
After leaving the area and leaving the dead body of Raditz to the vultures, the Z warriors returned back to Roshi's place and informed the others of what had taken place. The giving information was indeed not pleasant at all. They sat down and ate the food that was planned for their reunion party, except for Piccolo who just only need water to live on due to his race biology. Just the idea of two more saiyans just baffles John to no end. He did not put much thought into the idea of more surviving saiyans besides himself and Goku.
He figured it was just them since Frieza did shorten and limited their work schedule to the point of making all Saiyans return home and wait for an assignment. But now it looks like the cold-blooded tyrant had kept Raditz, Nappa, and Turles alive due to them taking on assignments that he did want or the other's hands dirty and them not being too powerful enough to propose a threat to him or the Cold Family. John kept in mind the given time of Nappa and Turles's arrival being a whole year. A whole year to be trained and be prepared for their arrival. Considering the desperation of the given situation, John had no choice in getting himself and Goku trained to the next level.
"I have a plan." John got everyone's attention. "Krillin. You have to go get Yamcha, Tien, and Chiaotzu and go up to the lookout and be trained by Kami."
"By Kami?." Krillin took a bite of his fried rice. "Well, you and Goku were both trained by him then that should give us an advantage point."
"His training is something else," commented Goku while taking a bite of his big fish.
John looked at Piccolo who was drinking more of his water. "Piccolo, I'm requesting that you train Bulma and Chi Chi and especially Gohan."
"What?!." Bulma and Chi Chi spoke in disbelief.
"Hmph." Piccolo closed the cap of his bottle before wiping his face. "You must really be desperate enough for me to train your wife and Goku's wife and brat. That sounds very amusing. Giving of the current situation. Sure, why not."
"John, I refuse to be alone with that creep," argued Bulma while cracking her crab legs.
"That definitely goes for me and Gohan as well. What are you thinking, John?." Chi Chi questioned before drinking her lemonade.
John sighed while making another full plate of food. "Believe it or not you two, I trust Piccolo. Piccolo was willing to help us kill Raditz, let alone not bother to murder us since he had the perfect opportunity to do so. Just because he is the son of King Piccolo does not mean he is exactly like him."
Piccolo chuckled after hearing this. "You really think you have read me like an open book?."
"Everyone deserves a second chance. Even you," said Goku, looking at the man.
"Keep dreaming," said Piccolo, who is secretly believing what the two said.
"Uncle John?." Gohan got the man's attention. "What would you and my Daddy be doing if all of us will be training?."
John smiled at the little boy while rubbing his hair. "Me and your Daddy are going to Other World and be trained by a man named King Kai."
"King Kai?." Goku was confused by what John just said.
"King Kai is one of the Kai's that trains fighters who are in their region sector. Kami told me about him after our training. Thinking that if you and I wanted to reach another level of fighting, then he will put in a good word for us. I told Kami to put in a good for us ahead of time in case of an emergency. Which this is count as an emergency." explained John, taking a bite of his medium-sized cooked baby octopus.
"Is this really necessary to do all this?." asked Chi Chi.
John stopped eating and sighed. "Chi-Chi you and everyone in here need to understand. Me and Goku's people are cold-hearted, murderous, unmerciful, bloodthirsty lust race."
This got everyone's attention as this is so serious.
"The Saiyans are a race of brutality who just loves the thrill of killing and get excited for a fight that will push them to their limits. Gaining the benefits of increasing their power. Our people can get stronger by winning a fight that is beyond the reach of victory. Even better we can achieve greatness if we recover from our injuries or near death. The warrior race of the Saiyans is the Universe's gifted creation." explained John.
"If that was true then why did they submit to Frieza and his family?." asked Bulma.
John put his plate down and got up with seriousness on his face. "Will talk about it later, Bulma. Kami!."
"Don't need to call my name out I'm right here."
John and others looked to see Kami in the doorway.
"Excellent timing," Roshi added before taking a drink of his can beer.
"Yeah for an old man," commented Piccolo.
Kami looked at Piccolo with a smirk. "Wait until you get in my age group."
"Yeah, you bet," Piccolo commented before putting his bottle back. "We are burning precious time here. Are we going to go through with this plan or not?."
Bulma sighed and looked at Chi Chi. "Let us try and trust Piccolo. Like it or not we are all in this together."
"Hated that is true. As long as we train with my baby boy," said Chi Chi, before looking at John and Goku. "I hope you two gain something from this King Kai character."
"We should." John placed his hand on Kami's left shoulder.
Goku placed his hand on the right shoulder. "See you guys in a year."
"Goodbye Daddy. Goodbye Uncle John. I will train just as hard as Mommy and Auntie Bulma." said Gohan, cutely.
"That is the spirit kiddo," said Bulma, smiling while rubbing his hair.
Gohan chuckled at this before saying one last goodbye to his father and uncle.
"Will see you guys soon," Goku said with cheer in his voice.
"Krillin, do not forget what I said," said John.
"Off we go boys," Kami told the two before teleporting.
In just a fast second, Kami took John and Goku to the front of what appeared to be a giant face of a snake with its body stretched and curved down.
"Here we are, boys." Kami looked at the two.
John and Goku had a look of confusion.
"Kami what is this?. You were supposed to take us to King Kai," said John, eyeing the thing.
Kami chuckled. "Why what is the matter boys?. You do not like a challenge?."
"Well, yeah we do Kami." Goku crossed his arms. "But me and John have no idea why this thing is so important."
"Well, boys in order to get to King Kai's place you need to walk this incredibly long bridge. You boys have to take the Snakeway. The Snakeway is the bridge that reaches King Kai's planet. Just remember to not fall off the snake way." Kami pointed down under the bridge. "If you do you two will be right down in HFIL."
"No kidding." John jumped on the bridge. "Well, Goku let us go and get going."
"Oh well." Goku joined John and looked at Kami. "See you in a year, Kami."
Kami watched the two saiyans run down the road of Snakeway. "Good luck boys. Have fun training with King Kai."
Meanwhile back on earth in the middle of mountains and grasses, Piccolo has taken Bulma, ChiChi, and Gohan to a massive area where there is no civilization for miles and have enough space to get their hands dirty in training.
"Why did you take us to the middle of freaking nowhere?." Bulma questioned when drinking her water.
"Hmph. It is not hard to figure out." Piccolo removed his gear. "This area is my personal training ground. Since I am in charge of training the three of you. You have to follow my rules and methods."
Chi Chi not liking how this is going. Frowning with a brow raised. "Okay. Such as?."
Piccolo had a blank facial expression. "Such as no relying on technology."
Piccolo put his hand out toward the plane and shoot a ki blast at it. Resulting in having the plane reduced into burnt pieces. This shocked the three. But it enraged Bulma big time.
"You jerk!." Bulma balled her fists with anger. "All of my capsules were in there you asshole!."
"Well, you do not need it any longer." Piccolo spat at the woman.
Chi Chi stepped up with a frown. "But those capsules contained food, clean water, and shelter!. How are we going to survive without that?!."
"Easy. Find or kill to have food. As for shelter?. Find a cave." answered Piccolo.
"But that is not the best way to survive out here, Mr. Piccolo," responded Ghoan, looking innocently.
Piccolo approached the boy. "I'm definitely going to train you harder. As for your mother and your aunt. Well, after I am done with them they will be a real woman when they get done with my training."
"Oh, I hope John and Goku finish their training very soon," commented Bulma, hoping that she and Chi Chi survived Piccolo's harsh wild training.
During those hours, Piccolo put the three through the rough and harsh treatment of training. Bulma and Chi Chi were covered in bruises and blood while Gohan was complaining throughout the whole day. Hating getting hit and hate getting kicked. Somehow he is motivated to keep on pushing his limits. Willing to keep up and be on the same level as his mom and auntie.
Gohan knows that his Dad and Uncle needed him to become stronger and be able to prepare for the arrival of the saiyans.
"Take this!." Gohan shoots a ki blast at Piccolo.
Piccolo blocked it and kicked Gohan in the side. Meanwhile, Chi Chi and Bulma used their numbers game and gave the jump on the green man. Piccolo took his time blocking and ducking from their kicks. Using his ki he blew his energy wave to take the three off of him. Bulma is on one knee huffing while Chi Chi holds her injured arm that Radtiz gave her. Gohan had his face in the dirt. Having some of the grass hit his mouth while trying to get back onto his feet.
Piccolo looked at the three in satisfaction with the process they accomplish on the first day. He called a day for them and went to go and meditate on the flat top of a mountain. Bulma managed to help Chi Chi and her little nephew with their wounds while trying to find food to gather. Chi Chi cooked their meals after done putting her injured arm in a cast while done putting handmade ointments on Gohan.
"Hope you two are hungry." Chi Chi pulled her stick out of the large flat rock burning over the fire. "Cooked berries and rabbits are ready."
Bulma took the cut of her rabbit. "It is not a five-star cuisine. But it will have to do."
Gohan blows the heat out of his food before taking a bite. "Training is very painful."
"That is the whole point, Gohan." Bulma took another bite of her berry.
"This will either make you or break you, sweetie. That is how your Dad and your Uncle got strong," said Chi Chi, chewing her food.
Gohan nodded when eating. "I hope we will beat the aliens when they arrive."
Bulma chuckled. "Gohan the term is Saiyans. Your Dad and Uncle are Saiyans. Meaning that you are a saiyan as well. Half-Saiyan, I mean."
Chi Chi shook her head in disbelief. "I still can not believe that there are more people just like John and Goku. It is wild."
"Yeah, no kidding, Chi Chi." Bulma dusted the dust off her hair. "I remembered John telling me that there are no survivors besides Goku and himself. He believed very so after he told me that Frieza shortened his people's work schedule and just let them stay on their home planet. John told when we and Goku first went to find the dragon balls that he will never forget his people or culture but will be moving forward to the now and be happy and value what he has."
Chi Chi smiled when drinking her water. "Yeah, him and Goku."
Bulma picked up the four-star ball in her hand. "And their Granpa Gohan's ball. I got to make sure we do not lose this. We might just have to use the dragon balls in case...well anything."
"No kidding." Chi Chi looked up to see Piccolo still in the same spot meditating. But then someone have caught her mind when looking at their surroundings. "Wait. Where is Gohan?."
Bulma started noticing her nephew missing. "You're right, Chi Chi. Where did he go?."
The two got up to go look for Gohan. Bulma and Chi Chi did not want Gohan somewhere on his own and not supervised. It is not that they did not want Gohan to be a little bit independent. No. They just did not want him somewhere when it is dark out. Meaning there is a good chance that they might have a full moon. That is something that they do not need. Chi Chi did not believe the idea of what John and Bulma had informed her about the full moon when he and Goku used to have tails.
Gohan was using the bathroom beside the small pond. Just because they were temporarily living outdoors does not mean he will stop being considered. Finished peeing and pulling his pants up, Gohan was about to head back until noticing the reflection in the pond.
"No way." Gohan recognizes the object reflecting the water. "An actual full moon."
Gohan then looked up in the sky to see the beautiful full moon with no clouds in the sky. He smiled happily since his mom, dad, uncle, and auntie have never let him be outside at nighttime. Much less to be able to see an actual full moon. He never knows why they refused to let him see it other than his Uncle John saying that he will wake the uncontrolled beast if looking at the moon. It confused Gohan when his uncle told him that.
"I do not see any uncontrolled beast." Gohan looked at the moon still with a smile and a chuckle. "Hmmm, they must be talking about something folklore."
Suddenly his laughter and smile stopped. Suddenly looking at the full moon had put Gohan into a wild unbreakable trance as his eyes began to go red. Let alone shaking as if he was cold.
"Gohan!?." Chi Chi called out.
"Sweetie!?." Bulma called her nephew out.
Piccolo broke his meditation to his disapproval and looked over to see Gohan staring at the moon. He noticed him shaking wildly to his confusion and curiosity. Bulma and Chi Chi finally land eyes on Gohan but Bulma saw the full moon and felt cold chills. Flashbacks were running through her mind when remembered both John and Goku looking at the moon when they were trapped in the castle of Pilaf. It was the night that she never pushed John when She and the others asked about how did their grandfather actually died.
John told her to let it go before little Goku start asking the same, once after being doubtful that night about the story that both John and Grandpa Gohan told him about the monster. Of course, Bulma knew that John knows what it was and tried everything to keep the truth hidden from Goku. But damn it she did not mean to encourage Goku to look at the moon and caused John to accidentally look at the moon when trying to stop Goku from looking any longer.
"Oh, shit," Bulma spoke in fear.
"Oh, shit what, Bulma?." Chi Chi looked at the woman.
Bulma stepped back with fear on her face. "Chi Chi we need to remove Gohan's tail now before he transforms."
Chi Chi looked at Bulma when remembering the story from John and Bulma. "I still think that you two are over..."
"Grrrrr!." Gohan started growling.
This got Chi Chi, Bulma, and Piccolo's attention. Gohan then started transforming. His clothes started to be torn apart as he grew and grow fur all around. His face started to morph into a gorilla and began roaring. This shocked and scared the there. But more importantly to both Chi Chi and Piccolo.
"What the?!." Piccolo jumped up. "Why is this kid turning?."
"Bulma what is happening to my Gohan?!." Chi Chi questioned the woman while having a look of fear.
"He is becoming a...Great Ape!." answered a scared Bulma.
"Say what?!." Piccolo and Chi Chi said in shock.
Gohan fully transformed into what exactly Bulma said he would be. A Great Ape. Gohan roared in full rage and wildness. Instantly losing all sense of self-awareness.
Bulma and Chi Chi flew up to the sky when Great Ape Gohan is about to throw a large boulder at them. Piccolo flew right beside the two as he tried to stop a raging Gohan. Great Ape Gohan roared while pounding his chest and acting like a true ape.
"How do we turn him back to normal?." asked Piccolo, wanting to solve the issue now.
"We need to cut off Gohan's tail. I need you two to distract him." Bulma told them when gathering her energy.
"R...Right!." Chi Chi flew at Gohan and throw low energy ki blast.
This irritated Gohan when trying to grab his mother. Piccolo shoots multiple ki blasts and even lays a kick at the ape boy. Great Ape Gohan roared and punched Piccolo causing him to hit the ground.
"Hold still Gohan!." Bulma created her rounded ki blade.
Bulma threw her blade at Gohan's tail and successfully cut his tail clean off. Gohan roared when feeling his wild energy going away and fell to his knees. Piccolo regained his step and looked at Gohan deforming back to normal.
"Oh, thank goodness." Chi Chi flew down and look over her son.
Bulma flew down beside Chi Chi. "Now you believe us?."
Chi Chi nodded when feeling relief. Piccolo was now understanding what they are up against come the year. If Gohan can be that strong in the ape form then the two saiyans will be a breakthrough of surviving it than winning the battle.
"Hmph. Looks like I have to get the winning edge on our side." Piccolo charged his ki.
Bulma eyed the man. "What are you thinking, Piccolo?."
"This." Piccolo put two fingers together and place them on his forehead. "Special Beam Canon!."
Piccolo shoots directly at the moon itself and shocked both Bulma and Chi Chi. He destroyed the moon without any second thoughts or hesitations. To be honest they did not blame Piccolo for doing this. If they are going to have any chance at beating the saiyans then getting rid of the moon is the best bet.
"Get used to having a night without a moon forever," said Bulma, when rubbing Gohan's head.
"Yep." Chi Chi looked up at the sky with a look of hope. "John. Goku. Please hurry and train. We need you both before the saiyans arrive."
Back with John and Goku the two have finally reached their destination. They saw the small planet all by itself and looked very clean and nice while being surrounded by a bunch of yellow puffy clouds.
"We have finally made it to the end of Snakeway!." cheered Goku.
John crossed his arms. "Yeah, and it takes us a big delay. You falling off the Snakeway and me trying to get us back out but can not do so due to HFIL having a barrier in keeping corrupt and evil people from escaping their fate."
Goku nodded. "Not to mention us dealing and fighting the woman of Snakeway."
"Exactly. A life lesson for us Goku. Never get so trusty with anyone who we do not especially if they did not contribute to our common goal." said John, before looking back at the small planet.
John hopes that King Kai has something that is worth learning before the saiyans arrive. Because John has not lived the wild life of being a savage saiyan since the day Planet Vegeta was destroyed and reduced into space dust. Knowing what is asked of him. John must tape back into being the saiyan that he has always been. Being as savage as possible. Because he has an unwanted feeling that fighting Nappa and Turles will not end just there.
"Let us go, Goku." John jumps towards the planet.
"Right!." Goku followed his none, blooded saiyan brother.
It is time for them to train and get ready for the arrival of Nappa and Turles.
