Chapter One: Welcome To Hell!
Pentagram City.
Found within the Pride Ring of Hell, this urban jungle of chaos and mayhem is mostly inhabited by "Sinners" - those who were once human in life and had their souls cast down to Hell upon death. With every year, Sinners start and run their businesses - be it casinos, nightclubs, adult film studios, brothels, restaurants, television stations, hotels - anything that could be made into a business was found along the city streets.
And currently, its denizens were milling about, minding their own business and doing whatever they fancied even as more souls were brought down to Hell. Their appearances can vary to the limits of near ridiculous: some looked more animal-like; others looked somewhat like everyday objects, or even humanoid in nature - and the all come in many colors, sizes, appearances and structures.
Yet in spite of how chaotic it seems on the surface with its constant anarchy and unstable society, there DOES exist a crude form of hierarchy as it is the very ring governed and ruled personally by the king of Hell and his family: Lucifer Morningstar, his wife Lilith, and their daughter Charlotte "Charlie" Morningstar.
However, Pentagram City has a constant mass-overpopulation problem - with most of the newly-departed souls winding up as Sinners with each passing year. The angels of denizens of Heaven were quick to realize this in the beginning, and so fearing an uprising, they struck a deal with Lucifer:
Once a year, Heaven would send a mass of bloodthirsty angels known as "Exorcists" down to the city and "cleanse" as many Sinners as possible. Those demons who either reside in the other rings of Hell or were native citizens otherwise known as "Hell-born" were spared from the slaughter, and therefore not have to worry about being hunted and killed on "Extermination Day."
To this day, Sinners walk around doing their business while dreading and fearing the end of every year.
But on this day, one newly-arrived Sinner would change everything...
"WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!"
A blurry shape crashed down from the sky only to land in an alley near a dumpster, the hard impact cracking the asphalt and kicking up clouds of dust around the new Sinner's glowing form.
But as the clouds finally settled and the glow slowly faded from existence, the newcomer stirred for a few moments before crawling out from the human sized crater. Bracing himself against the wall, he slowly got back on his feet and scrunched his eyes shut as he walked out of the alley onto the open street.
He was a young man nearing eighteen years of age, appearing to retain most of his human features from when he was alive. Unkempt spiky hair pointing in almost every direction - seemingly kissed by the golden sun - reached the nape of his neck and draped over his forehead, some strands even going over his eyes. A set of whisker marks adorned his face, three on each cheek. Toned chiseled skin the color of tanned bronze adorned by small faded battle scars gave insight to his past as a warrior.
Aside from his tattered clothes - of which the only things remaining were the tattered burnt orange shorts of what was originally pants and a torn jacket tied around his waist - only four things announced his status as a Sinner:
One was the pair of golden fox ears on the top of his head, perfectly blending in with his hair.
Another was the set of slightly pointed canines in his teeth, similar to those of a fox.
The third was the pair of tattoos on his body: one being a stylized tribal spiral pattern on his abs, the other a set of nine large commas around his neck.
Finally, his powerful limbs were coated in some sort of black metallic substance at the forearms, hands, shins, calves, and feet. Only his fingers remained uncovered as did the rest of his body, ending with obsidian claws instead of regular fingernails.
"Owww, my head..." Beautiful blue eyes the color of clear oceans with white slitted pupils framed by black sclera opened as the young man quickly scanned his surroundings...only to quickly recoil in shock as he saw Pentagram City for the first time. "W-whoa, where am I?!" It was only by chance that he saw himself at a broken mirror mirror. "W-what the fuck happened to me?!" Wanting to get a better view of the area, he suddenly took note of his ruined attire and immediately spotted a used green tarp large enough to cover his body. Wrapping the tarp around himself, the young man made his way out of the alley.
Walking down the street, he looked around in bizarre wonder at the scenery and society around him, still too shell shocked by the anarchy and seemingly lawlessness of the city life. The whiskered young man could only gawk at some of the debauchery openly being acted out in nearby alleys or from open windows. The fact that the - people? - were paying no mind to any of it was what set alarm bells ringing in his head.
It was at this moment that Naruto Uzumaki, Child of Prophecy and Hero of the Hidden Leaf, realized that he was FAR from home...
"Holy shit, what kind of backwards place did I wind up in?" the blond Sinner muttered to himself in hopes of not drawing attention to himself. Although, judging by the many signs of pentagrams and the unusual creatures moving about the city - adding to the eerie red sky and atmosphere - he was able to deduce a few things.
"Oh, crap...is-is this Hell?! And are those demons I'm seeing walking down the street like it's normal?!" Feeling like he was being watched, Naruto thought he was making too much of a commotion in public and quickly looked for a more private area.
Utilizing his chakra to leap onto a nearby rooftop, he quickly attempted to recall everything that led to this situation.
"Let's see...we fought Madara, Black Zetsu betrayed him. Last thing I remember was sealing that bitch Kaguya into the moon and then-"
Flashback-no-Jutsu...
*SQUELCH!*
Naruto could hardly breath as he felt something pierce his chest right through the heart, the lightning infused weapon obliterating the fragile organ. Choking on his own blood, he could barely hear the words hissing in his ear:
"Goodbye, Naruto..."
Flashback-no-Jutsu End...
"...Shit." Naruto's eyes widened at the memory before tightening his fists in anger. "SHIT! Sasuke, you backstabbing sonofabitch!" Slamming his fist repeatedly against the wall, the whiskered young man growled as his body shook with anger. "I died. I fucking DIED! After everything I did to bring him back to Konoha, that broody bastard KILLED me!"
It was in the middle of his rant that Naruto remembered something important. '...Kurama? Kurama!'
Nothing. The whiskered blond Sinner felt his breath hitch at the implication. Desperately, he tried again and again, but there was no reply. Eventually Naruto gave up trying after what felt like five minutes, as the cold reality had finally kicked in.
Kurama, his longest companion, was really gone. The former shinobi gnashed his teeth in cold grieving rage at his painful loss.
"...Damn you, Sasuke. Goddamn you! Can this get ANY WORSE?!"
*BONG!* *BONG!* *BONG!* *BONG!*
The former shinobi nearly flinched at the loud noise, turning his head like a swivel to find its source. It didn't take him that long.
It was a giant golden clocktower in the middle of the city with an equally large hourglass right below the large clock face. In the middle of that was some sort of countdown where it said: 000. Shortly after, he could somewhat see and feel the widespread fear and terror as the masses on the streets suddenly panicked and tried to entrap themselves into any available lodging.
'Oh, this can't be good...'
As though proving him right, he saw a golden portal open in the middle of the sky. What happened next sent him into a fit of shock. The former shinobi bore witness as a massive number of black, white, and gray humanoid "angels" with large grey wings on their backs started swooping down and killing as many of those demons that he saw earlier trying to get to safety. Seeing so much chaos and death so soon after a war...Naruto didn't like it one bit. By God, he could even sense their suffering as some of them slowly bled out from their wounds.
"W-what the FUCK is going on?!"
Apparently he must have screamed out loud, because the blond Sinner saw six of those monochrome angels flying full speed at him, spears held at the ready.
"Die, demon trash!" One of the angels cried out in sadistic glee as she thrust her spear at the former shinobi's chest.
...!
Naruto froze...but not out of fear.
The bloodthirsty angel could only stare in shock as her would-be victim shot out his left hand and grabbed her weapon just underneath the blade, halting its advance completely. She tried to pull and yank her weapon free from his grip to no avail, his fist clenched around the holy shaft like an iron vice. Her five companions flew around the pair, unsure of how to respond.
"What the-?!"
*SQUELCH!*
In one swift movement, Naruto ripped the spear from the angel's grasp and cleanly severed her head.
What the others found more terrifying was that he only moved the one arm; the rest of his body was as stone.
"... Demons?"
The whiskered blond closed his eyes as he had all but muttered the very word under his breath, yet it carried and echoed across the entire city all the same.
"You're mindlessly killing demons?"
One of the angels snapped out of her stupor and snarled in rage as she rushed forth, aiming to cut off his legs.
"Is that why you're here?"
Instead the angel found herself bisected at the waist for her trouble, her body stumbling forward three steps before collapsing in two. Naruto had jumped over her outstretched arm, using the momentum to grab her spear while using the other to cut her open. Landing on his feet, he stood straight as he stared up at the remaining angels, his cobalt eyes burning with an endless fire.
"And I thought angels were supposed to be merciful."
"SHUT UP!" As one they charged, brandishing their spears bloodied from other victims. Naruto parried one angel's to the side, crushing her windpipe with an elbow strike so hard the back of her skull popped like a balloon.
'These angels... they're no warriors.' The whiskered blond pondered as he lazily side-stepped from an overhead strike before skewering his attacker through the skull. 'They're slow, sloppy and easy to read!' Now irritated at the lack of a real fight, he gave a tired sigh as the threw the fresh corpse into a wall. 'I've seen ACADEMY STUDENTS put up a better fight, for fuck's sake!'
"Oi! For an army of demon-killing warriors, you aren't that good at your jobs!" He mocked before splitting the fifth angel open from neck to groin, her ribcage emerging from the rather gruesome sight. The whiskered blond could practically feel the growing hatred from the remaining monochrome killer standing in front of him as she glared at his ichor-stained body.
*sigh* "Now this is just sad...what's the matter, little birdie? You mad things aren't going your way?"
"Get back, you fucking rejec-KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
Seeing that she was going to flee, Naruto threw his procured weapon at the "warrior's" legs; perfectly pinning her to the side of a building. What he didn't count on was the fact that she screamed so loudly. Soon enough, he could see other angels - numbering at least two hundred - flocking to his position.
Hearing the battle cries of her sisters, the wounded angel turned to face her assailant with a manic smile on her face.
"Hear that, freak?! That's the sound of death coming your way! If I were you, I'd start begging for mercy!"
"Yeah, you're right." Naruto gave her a bloodthirsty grin that served to piss her off before turning to face the oncoming opposition. "IF."
Feeling his chakra pulse through his veins, the former shinobi was surprised to find the Tailed Beast's purified reserves dipping into his own. It caught him by surprise - that the biju's chakra had somehow remained in spite of their separation.
'But-but Kurama's gone! This doesn't make any sense! W-what's happening to me?!'
Naruto's thought process was interrupted as he soon found himself being engulfed by a pillar of gold flames, his acquired cloak instantly burning to ash at first contact. It was blinding for the angels as they covered their eyes and waited to the flames to die down. When they did, however, Naruto had changed.
The blond Sinner's tattoos were glowing a burning gold, and two horns seeming to grow from his now shining hair. The whisker marks on his face had thickened and his sharp canines became more pronounced, giving him a more feral appearance. The metallic pieces of his arms and legs now decorated with crimson veins along the outside surface, wisps of orange energy trailing out from the glowing cracks. His blue eyes had become orbs of burning fire - the white slitted pupils now forming a perpendicular cross. And finally, nine long ethereal foxtails flowed and danced freely from the back.
'...Eh? What's this? I feel...great!' Naruto blinked at the changes to his body. He couldn't really explain it, but for some reason this new form just felt right...
"KILL THE DEMON FILTH!" Came the war cry from above
Suddenly remembering where he was, the whiskered blond looked to see the mass of angels recovering from the blinding light show. Raising his right arm over his head, he started to channel his chakra as soon a glowing golden orb the size of a water balloon formed just above his palm. But as it kept growing in size, there were four blades made of violent winds starting to form around the core, making it appear as some sort of shuriken.
And when it got to be the size of a horse, Naruto threw it at them. In their defense, it was something they could easily let pass them. Hence why they didn't bother dodging.
They really should have...
*BOOOOOOOOOOOM!*
The spinning orb exploded in mid-air, the vortex of spiraling winds cutting deep into most of the angels on a cellular level - rendering them to little more than mincemeat as they dropped to the ground. What remained were the remaining fifty of those furthest away from the blast, shrieking in a bloodthirsty rage as they swooped down to attack.
With a challenging grin, the whiskered blond braced himself and jumped up to meet them head-on. Snatching the spear of one angel, he kicked off her torso with enough force to obliterate her top half before skewering and cutting through five of her kin. Sensing that he was about to fall, Naruto made to brace for impact when he felt himself stop in midair. Looking down, he was surprised to see that the energy surrounding his legs somehow formed a sort of energy platform for him to stand on.
"...Huh, neat." The former shinobi muttered to himself before parrying an overhead strike from an angel's spear, quickly slicing off her arms before shattering her skull with the butt end of his procured weapon. Forming a Rasengan in his open hand, he charged at the remaining angels in the sky.
*BOOM!*
He obliterated the legs off one angel before kicking her face in through her helmet.
*SQUELCH!*
Three more were skewered through the head like a human-sized shish-kebab when Naruto threw his spear with deadly accuracy, grappling his fifth victim as they careened through a twelve-story building. Due to not ever having a serious fight before, however, the flailing angel was left helpless as the whiskered blond pummeled her ribs into dust with his fists before crashing out through a window. Slamming her useless body into paste against the exterior wall of the building, Naruto grabbed a set of feathery wings passing by him before ripping them off the back of the monochrome "warrior" he had latched onto, letting her scream in pain as she plummeted to her death. With whatever remained of the heavenly "army" hurling their spears at him, Naruto sucked his teeth in annoyance before bringing his fingers in front of him to form a plus sign.
"You're starting to bore me, y'know?!"
*POOF!* *POOF!* *POOF!* *POOF!* *POOF!* *POOF!* *POOF!*
Within seconds, dozens of copies of the former shinobi emerged from the cloud of smoke, Rasengan in each hand as they crashed into the array of spears above. The angels were shocked at his fighting prowess - they had assumed that this Sinner was just showing off; that his skills were just a sham and that he would fall to their mercy eventually. Not once did the angels think that he would fight back, let alone win.
Oh, how the tables have turned...
"...That oughta hold 'em off while I get some answers." Naruto muttered as he dropped down to where the skewered angel was, still desperately struggling to free herself until she saw him approach. The downed angel stood her ground, even if she was terrified by the amount of power the whiskered blond was outputting. "So! Care to fill me in on why you're all down here killing people?"
The angel looked at him dumbstruck, not believing what she just heard. "Are-are you fucking with me, right now?! It's Extermination Day, dumbass! All us Exorcists come down here each year to put you worthless Sinners out of your misery! What, have you been living under a rock, you fucking retard?!"
To his credit, Naruto allowed to let that comment slide. "Er...no? I mean I just got here; not too big on dying again, y'know? And you're not exactly bright yourself, birdie. If this is what I have to look forward to each year, I'm gonna be bored out of my mind..." The whiskered blond finished with a sigh.
"Then why?! Why won't you just stop fighting and die, already!? It'd make things easier if you just gave up, you fucking demon bastard!" The seething angel ranted and raged, only to flinch and freeze as the former shinobi's hardened icy gaze turned on her.
"Give up? Make things easier...? Is that what you want?"
It was as though the gaze of the Almighty himself were cast upon her, judging the very worth of her soul.
"Why should I die? Why should I stop fighting? Because you said so? Because it's how it has to be? Because it makes your life easier, knowing you can't fight otherwise?" Naruto asked calmly while he was walking towards her. As the screams of wounded angels echoed in the distance, the Exorcist shook with terror at the cold rage in the Sinner's voice. "You and your sisters come down from Heaven every year, slaughter however many of these people as you want, then just go home and laugh it off like it was nothing while waiting for the next year. Did you really think that it would stay this way forever? And now that someone is choosing to fight back, you're complaining that it's not fair?" Suddenly stopping just in front of her, he sicked his teeth in irritation. "Life isn't fair, little bird. You should've known better than that."
At this point, the ichor of fallen angels rained down from the sky, letting the wounded Exorcist know of the fate of her sisters. She started to sob and hiccup in fear while begging for her life, hoping that this nine-tailed demon would spare her. Naruto narrowed his eyes in disgust at her cowardly actions, finding it pathetic after what she and her fellow angels had done to this city year after year. So, gripping the spear that pierced the Exorcist's legs, he looked her in the eye before yanking the weapon free. The angel fell to the ground, mentally broken in the aftermath of today before realizing that she was free. She didn't hesitate - the grieving angel took to the skies back to Heaven as fast as her wounded wings could carry her, not once looking back at the beast that claimed the lives of so many of her sisters.
Naruto sighed in disappointment as the portal finally closed, the crimson skies returning to their place once more. Remembering the words of an old friend, the whiskered blond felt they were appropriate after today. "What a fucking drag..."
Unknown to them both, there was a video security camera nearby that was currently filming their entire interaction - one close enough to clearly listen to the whiskered blond Sinner's words.
Little did Naruto know, that his words would shake the very foundations of Heaven and Hell.
-End-Chapter-
Well, that just happened. I wonder what comes after this, eh?
STAY TUNED~~~...
