Chapter 20: Progress and developments

Year: X753. 31 years till Canon begins.

Cade POV:

You would be surprised to hear that I was actually able to get to asleep last night after my rather long afternoon nap yesterday. When I woke up I quickly rushed downstairs to get some breakfast, so I could then head off to the guild and show Master Makarov my new spell.

When I had finished my breakfast and headed up stairs (me making sure to explain my intentions today to my mother before doing so) a thought crossed my head. How am I suppose to show him the spell when he told me he doesn't want to bring the spell book down into town?

This caused me to stop and think for a bit.

'Hmm, that's annoying. I mean nothing would probably happen to me on the way if I didn't bring the book. But if I did bring the book then I'd probably get attacked on the way there. Maybe I ca-'

Wait.

'I have magic now! Why am I being concerned about getting attacked on the way to Magnolia! Sure when I didn't have my Ice Magic that may have been an issue. But now I can cast spells and defend myself! What have I been doing for the last few months?!' I thought in annoyance, as I made it to my room.

I grabbed the book of my desk and got dressed into some fresh clothes. Then I grabbed my jacket from my cupboard and put it on, in which I promptly put the spell book inside of the big pocket on the front of it. I then made my way out of my house and began the travel to Fairy Tail. It took a little while to get to the guild, but when I did I burst open the doors and ran inside.

When I looked inside, I saw that almost the entire guild was present. The benches were completely full, and I could even see some members standing up against the walls.

'Huh, why everyone here?' I looked around to try and find Gildarts or Master, and I was able to spot Gildarts at a bench.

I went over to him and tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention. He then turned around, and he had a quizzed expression on his face as he looked to see who did that. He then saw it was me and looked a happy to see me. "Oh Cade! Glad you showed up here." Gildarts waved as he stood up from his bench and stood next to me.

"Hey Gildarts, sorry I couldn't come and see you yesterday. I erm, kinda fell asleep not too long after I got home." I apologised chuckling awkwardly. "Say, why's the guild so crowded today?" I asked as I looked around the room.

"Oh. It's because there was a delay with the trains yesterday when the S-Class Candidates were trying to get back. They should be back here soon I think." Gildarts said, as he too looked around the room.

"Ah, ok. Hey mind if we go somewhere where it's a bit less crowded? Got something very interesting to show you." I requested to him with a lower volume.

Gildarts looked a little surprised to hear that. "Er, we can use the basement if that's all right. Haven't seen Ivan here today so I think we'd be alone downstairs." Gildarts answered as he turned to look at me.

"Yeah, that's great. Let's go!" I nodded.

Me and Gildarts then began to move down to the basement, with Gildarts following me. When we got down there, I couldn't see Ivan anywhere so we were definitely alone. I made my way to one of the tables and reached into my jacket pocket.

"Alright. Something kinda big did happen yesterday. I would have came and shown you if I hadn't fell asleep." I explained as I got a grip on the book. "It involves… this." I declared as I pulled out the spell book and slammed it on the table – ok well I meant to put it down gently, but I might have moved it a bit too fast.

"Woah the spell book!" Gildarts exclaimed with surprise. "I thought you weren't aloud to bring it out with you?" Gildarts questioned.

"Yeah, well that's as back when I couldn't really defend myself properly. Now I can, so here it is." I stated with a bit of triumph in my voice as I said that, with me then quickly opening the book to page 10.

"Ok, now get a load of this." I said with seriousness, as I got to page 10 and showed it to Gildarts. He began to quickly skim what the page had written on it, and I then saw his eyes widen upon seeing what the spell said.

"WH-WHOA!" Gildarts shouted with shock upon reading it. "You can change solid magical material into stone!?" He cried out. "That's insane!" He exclaimed, as he turned to see what I had to say about it.

"Yeah… pretty crazy. That's why I was looking for Master. Was hoping he maybe could tell me more about it." I explained as I looked down at the page again.

"So hold on a minute, is that referring to any and all solid magical material? Will it not work on certain solids?" Gildarts wondered curiously.

"Well, I'm not exactly sure about that. See… I kinda have this theory that it may work on my Ice Magic." I stated to Gildarts, whose face was shocked upon me saying that.

"You think it could work on your own magic?" He looked shocked when hearing that.

"They're a chance that it could yes, but I doubt I'll be easy." I said with a frown. As I looked back down at page 10, I could barely make out some writing on the back of the page. I turned it over and saw a paragraph that had more information on the nature of the spell.

Notes:

This spell can be used on other magic that was casted by you, but is harder to do so.

This spell cannot be used at all on any magic that involves liquids or gases.

This spell cannot be used on any living creature that is made out of solid magical matter – Any summoned creature for example that is made out of a solid.

"Hey! Look here Gildarts! It says that I can use the magic to turn my own ice into stone!" I pointed to the notes that I had just read.

"Really!?" Gildarts immediately came over to look at the notes. "Let me see… can be used on magic casted by you… cannot be used on liquids or gases… can't be used on living things…" Gildarts muttered quietly as he skimmed the notes.

"Well that's… interesting." He commented with a look of surprise. "So it does work on your own magic after all… Wait! Ice is made out of water which is a liquid, will that affect the spell in any way?" He wondered with curiosity.

"Good question…" I honestly had no idea whether the magical property being made out of a liquid will effect my magic in any way. Perhaps it would work if the ice was solid enough, and not meting in any way? Or would it fail to work if the ice was already melting?

As I was pondering these rather interesting questions, I could hear lots of footsteps moving quickly on the wooden floor above me and Gildarts. We both looked up at the ceiling in confusion, before we both then looked back down at each other.

"What do you think that is?" I said, confused at the stampede upstairs.

"It might be Master Makarov and the S-Class candidates! I think they might have came back from the S-Class trials." Gildarts suggested to me as he began to make his way up the stairs to investigate. I put the book in my jacket pocket and followed him, and I saw that all the guild members had left the guild and were now standing outside and looking forward.

Me and Gildarts exited the guildhall to see what was going on. We stood to the left of the guild entrance and we then saw four individuals walking down the path towards the guildhall. When they got closer we could see that it was Master Makarov, Lee, Eva and Quikora returning from the S-Class trials. When the rest of the guild saw them they let out cheers to commemorate their return.

Eventually the four of them made it back to the front of the guild entrance and stood their waiting for Master to speak up. Master Makarov then cleared his throat, and everyone quietened down.

"Attention everyone. We have returned from the S-Class trials!" Makarov declared proudly. This caused a few cheers and compliments to emerge from the guild members. They quickly made sure to quieten down, to let Master continue. "First things first, there was a winner this in this years trial so that means that from here on out the second floor is now off limits to all non S-Class mages!" Master shouted out for everyone to hear and understand.

When Master said that, there was a few groans and moans upon many of them now not being able to go up there. I kinda shared their misery at that, as the second floor was a nice place to hang about at. I like playing cards up there with Gildarts and getting to look down on everyone in the guild. Master then cleared his voice again, a bit louder this time.

"Now then… the winner of this years S-Class trials are…"

"Quikora!" Shouted Master Makarov triumphantly, as he moved his hands to the direction of Quikora who was now smiling.

There came various cheers, groans of losing bets, words of encouragement for those who lost, those wondering what came next and the applause for the winner. Quikora then took a step forward and began to say something.

"Alright guys, drinks on me for your very kind words just now!" He declared smiling while giving a thumbs up. At soon as that was uttered, all the guild members cheered loudly and rushed into the guild with Quikora quickly following. Lee simply grinned and went into the guild and Eva just rolled her eyes and soon followed him.

What I did not expect however was Master Makarov to go sprinting after them into the guild.

"Hey don't leave me out of this! I'm the Guild Master!" He shouted as he dashed into the guildhall.

Me and Gildarts just awkwardly looked at each other before we both started to laugh out loud upon seeing that just there.

"Wow, I didn't think Master was that kinda of guy." I grinned, barely being able to get the words out of mouth due to my laughter. Gildarts then calmed himself down to tell me something.

"Yeah, one time I saw him freak out when Quikora used an illusion to make all the beer in the guild disappear. He was panicking so much." Commented Gildarts as chucked at the memory. "Master does love his beer."

Eventually we were both able to calm ourselves down, and we both headed into the guild to see Master. When we got into the guild there was a happy and bustling atmosphere in the main hall. There were people having drinks and talking to each other happily. I couldn't see anyone on the second floor now, but I could see Master at the counter of the guild having a nice beer to himself.

I approached the man to tell him the news about my discovery in the spell book, when I got over to him I reached into my pocket and pulled out the spell book to show him.

"Master. I've unlocked a new spell in the spell book that I think you should see." I declared as I opened the book to page 10, and held it up to him. Master just looked his shoulder to see me, before turning himself all the way round to face me.

"Cade, I thought I told you to keep the book in your manor now didn't I?" Makarov said in a dry voice, raising his eyebrow at me.

"Well for one I think I can defend myself now, also I think that this is probably the most important spell I have learned so far Master." I stated, as I beckoned the man to take a look at it.

Master Makarov looked over at the page curiously, him taking his time to read the pages unlike Gildarts who just skimmed over it as fast as he could. I could tell that he had gotten to the main point of the spell due to how his eyes suddenly widened in shock and his face paled.

"Th-This can't possibly be!" Master whispered with a voice filled with surprise and shock, as he then reread the page to see if his eyes were deceiving him or not. "Th-This is insane!" He shouted upon reading it again. Many of the guild members turned to look at him with a confused look on their faces.

Master quickly readjusted himself amid turned to look at the guild members with a barely forming smile. "Oh heh, nothing to worry about here." He spoke up nervously, before immediately turning to me and gesturing his head to his office. I understood what he meant, and waved bye to Gildarts before following Master into his office. When I closed the door, he breathed a sigh of relief.

"Well then. That is certainly one very powerful spell you found in that book there Cade." He confirmed, as he then sat down at his desk and rested his chin in his hands, with his elbows on the desk.

"Yeah… I just had a few questions about it." I spoke as I sat down on the seat across from his desk.

"Ask away. I'll try to help however I can Cade." Makarov said as he took a big swig of his beer he brought in with him from earlier.

Master might be needing more beers after this if it rattled him so much.

"Well, the first thing is it say on the back that I can use it on my own magic. So I could turn my ice attacks into stone. And I can even reverse engineer it like it says to avoid leaving a bunch of big stones around after I finished battling!" I declared with a smile.

"WH-WHAT!?" Shouted Master Makarov, as he quickly turned to the back of the page to read the notes he hadn't seen before. He took his time reading them, and when he was finished he gave a slow nod and put the book on the desk. "Well then… this certainly changes things I think." He remarked.

"Yeah. There was one more thing I was wondering about it. It says that I can be used on my own magic as long as it is a solid material that is made out of magic. The thing is, would my ice not be compatible with it due to the fact that it was once a liquid?" I inquired to Master.

Master, brushed his moustache when I said that to him. "Hmm. I'm honestly not sure now that you brought that up just there. I think you should focus on getting the spell working on other solid magical material out there. We have a few wizards in the guild that could help you with that if you are interested." He suggested, trying to help me out.

"Oh! That's be great Master! Who is it that can help me with this?" I asked, happy at the idea he gave me.

"Well, we have a glass mage, a plant mage and a wood mage here in the guild." Master said as he listed them on his hand. "If I'm being honest, I think you should go with the glass mage first. Frag Ille is their name. They are quite nice and willing to help others in the guild – not that the others are bad people mind you, but they tend to work alone." Master explained to me.

"Ah, ok. So after that you think I should work on trying it with my own magic?" I asked.

"I would Cade. Make sure you have a good understanding of the spell before trying it on your own magic. I have the feeling it may struggle to work if you use it on your own magic first, due to a lack of experience." Makarov said to me. Then Master looked down at the page again and noticed the strange two worded message left behind. He looked at it in deep curiosity and thought.

"Say Cade. Who left this little message here?" Master frowned, not looking up at me.

"Oh, that was already there when I woke up." Makarov looked a bit confused at that so I elaborated for him. "Well when I finished decoding that page and said the verse to unlock it, I think I fell asleep." I said chuckling in embarrassment. "When I woke up the message was just there."

"R-Right, I see." Spoke Master slowly as he lifted his head out of the book and turned to look at me. "Uh, thank you for this information Cade." He said, struggling to get the words out. "Here's the book, uh, Frag is in the guild today I did see him as I was coming into the guild." Master explained as he handed me the book. "I erm, have some business to do here, so I'll see you later." He said with a strange smile as he opened the door to let me out.

I left the room, a bit confused as to Master was acting so strangely just now. When the door closed behind me. I just realised that Master gave me no descriptive detail about Frag's appearance. As such, I looked around to try and find Gildarts hoping he knew the man, and I was able to spot him at at table chatting with some guild mates.

I walked over to him and he saw me coming from the corner of his eye and turned around to see. "Hey there Cade! Get what you needed from Master just now?" Gildarts wondered to me.

"Uh, kind of." I scratched my head as I said that. "Can you help me find a wizard in the guild? His name is Frag Ille." I said to Gildarts.

"Huh? Who's asking exactly?" Came the wizard sitting next to Gildarts as he turned around to face me.

He was a man with black hair with a silver streak flowing through it. He also had red eyes, and looked like he was average height (hard to tell when he is sitting down) He wore a pink shirt with a grey blazer over it. His lower half consisted of black trousers and white shoes.

'No way…'

"Wait… are you Frag Ille?" I said turning to look at the man next to Gildarts, with a surprised look on my face.

"Sure am kid… Cade was it? Gildarts has mentioned you to me a few times before." Frag greeted me with a small smile. "So then. Who's asking? Does Scott want his money from the bet I owe him? Did Charlotte finally get my message? Or does Master want me?" Frag asked with various different expressions as he listed those things.

"No, it's me that needs you." I answered plainly to him.

"Huh? Oh erm, sorry there kid!" Frag said chucking a little. "I just assumed someone else needed me for something, I have a lot going on you see. Ah, anyway! What do you need me for?" He wondered curiously.

"Well I was wondering if you could help me with my magic? I'm trying to learn a certain spell and I think your magic would help me with it." I offered to Frag.

"That it? Sure I'll help you out. Thought I can't exactly imagine how a glass mage will help an ice mage." Frag said, scratching his head in confusion.

"Well… it's a bit hard to explain." I said slowly. "Mind if we take it outside?" I suggested gesturing to the back guildhall door, that took you out to view the ocean.

"Yeah, alright." He agreed as he stood up and made his way to the door. "You wanna come see Gildarts?" He offered to the crush wizard who was listening in on what we were saying the whole time. Gildarts nodded his head, and stood up with Frag.

The three of us then made our way to the back door, opened it, and walked out of the guild to the small area that was behind the guild that overlooks the ocean. When we stopped about midway between the guild, Frag turned to me.

"So what was it you needed to show or explain to me?" He asked curiously.

I then reached into my jacket pocket and pulled out the spell book, and held it in front of Frag for him to see. "This is the spell book that I've been learning my Enchantment Magic from." I stated to the glass mage.

Frag looked quite shocked to see the spell book in front of him. "So that's how you've been learning the enchantment spells. Was always wondering how you were learning them." He added. "Ah, is that why you wanted to take this outside?" He said in realisation.

"Yeah, I think it's best that the less people know about this book, the better. Not that I don't trust anyone in this guild, but they may end up accidentally talking about it and then knowing my luck, a dark wizard will try to steal it." I elaborated to him.

"Right. Well I'm good at keeping secrets." Frag assured me giving me a smile.

"Heh, thanks Frag." I sighed with relief. "Anyway! There is a certain spell in this book that lets me turn just about any solid magical material into stone." I stated, explaining the situation to Frag.

"N-No way! You serious?!" He demanded in shock.

"Yeah, it's pretty powerful so I think it's best that not a lot of people know I have this spell until I've got a good grasp on it." I explained back to him.

"A-Ah… I see." He nodded slowly. "Hey Gildarts did you know about this?" He asked the boy.

"Yeah I do. In fact, I think I was the first person Cade told about it. He explained it to me earlier today down in the basement, while we were waiting for Master to come back." Gildarts replied to Frag. "I had just about the same reaction as you though."

"So you need me to help you try to learn the spell?" Frag asked, us finally getting to the real reason why we came out here.

"Yeah. I asked Master about it and he recommended you for the job. I'm er, not sure why to be honest – I mean he didn't say why, not that I think you're not capable or anything." I said quickly reassuring him.

"Ah! I think I know why!" Frag said with surprise at that moment. "It's because my Glass Magic is obviously very fragile. So to make up for it, the pieces of glass I can cast have much more magic power than most other magic attacks." Frag explained to me.

"Huh, really? I didn't know that." Gildarts spoke up with a bit of shock at that information just there.

"Not many people do." Frag replied, looking over at Gildarts and then back to me. "Well if my glass has a lot of magic power then surely they would be a good test for the spell in question?" Frag said to me. "The more magic the better!"

"Yeah that sounds like a plan!" I said confidently to him. "Should we try it now?"

"Yeah we can do a quick test right now to see if it works or not." Frag said as he held out his hand in front of him.

"Glass Pillar." He said calmly, which then cause a hexagonal pillar of glass to erupt from the earth in front of him. The glass looked quite thick from what I could see, a few feet thick I believe. It wasn't that high in the air, as it came just above the first floor of the guildhall.

"Well, here is a Glass Pillar for you to try your spell on." Frag said as took a step back and leaned against the wooden wall of the guildhall. "Let's see what you can do."

"You got this Cade!" Cheered Gildarts enthusiastically, as he went over to stand next to Frag. I then approached the pillar and opened the spell book to get a look at the spell in question to cast it.

I turned to page 10 and examined the page again. It gave no real information on how the spell should be casted. I put the book back in my pocket, before turning back to the pillar.

'Do I just… hold my hand on the solid property in question?' I thought in confusion as I went over to place my hand on the glass pillar. I then closed my eyes and focused my magic power on the pillar and began to cast the spell.

'I have no idea what I'm doing, but it won't hurt to try.' I thought, hoping to do my best.

"Henshin!" I cried, and began to think about turning the glass into stone, hoping at the small chance that the spell would actually work, by focusing my mind to it.

To my absolute surprise and delight, I could feel my magic power leaving my body!

"Oh yes! It's working guys!" I cried as I opened my eyes in triumph to see the pillar turned into stone. But instead, I saw that only a small area of the pillar around my hand had been turned into stone.

"Wh-What!?" I exclaimed in disbelief and horror as I saw that the rest of the glass beginning to turn to stone very, very, slowly. Gildarts and Frag were also shocked as well, whether it was at the fact that the spell had worked the first time or whether it was because it was working so slowly. Perhaps both.

'This is terrible! My magic power is still decreasing quite quickly and this side of the pillar isn't even halfway done yet!' I was annoyed that the spell was this draining to me.

'Maybe pumping more magic into it will speed it up.' I then placed both hands onto the pillar and began to force the little magic power I had left onto the pillar. As I did so, the conversion rate of the glass turning into stone did increase, but in less than a minute I had completely ran out of magic, leading to me collapsing on the ground in exhaustion.

"You alright?" Came the voice of Frag, as he and Gildarts quickly made their way over to me after I collapsed.

"Aw, you were doing so well at that." Spoke up Gildarts with a sad look on his face as he turned to look at the pillar.

"I don't think so, that was pretty bad actually now that I think about it." I realised as I looked up at the both of them.

"Eh? How so Cade?" Said Frag tilting his head in confusion, with Gildarts having the same expression. I then pointed to the pillar.

"By pumping in all of my magic doing that spell, I meant that I was able to finish that one side of the hexagonal pillar." I stated directing them to the side of the pillar I was doing. The side was almost completely covered in stone, with only the edges of that side being glass.

"If there's anything this has taught me, it's that I need to try and cast the spell on smaller objects first. I think I started too big to begin with." I explained to the both of them, as I slowly stood back up.

"Well, I think you should take it easy for the rest of the day Cade. Maybe head back home and try to think about what to do the next time you want to try it." Suggested Frag as he looked at me with a deep expression.

"Oh yeah, what time do you what to do it at next time?" Frag questioned to me.

"Would tomorrow be ok?" I offered to the man.

"Of course it is! I've just been on a big job, so I don't need to worry about rent for a good while now. That means I can spend some time here helping you out with that." Confirmed Frag, giving me a grin and a thumbs up. I nodded my head and responded the kindness back to him.

"Will we still be able to go on jobs together then?" Gildarts wondered, inquiring to know if he was still going to be able to make money and have fun blasting away bandits and other nasty creatures with me.

"Of course! I don't have to this every single day you know!" I replied cheerfully to Gildarts. "We can still go on jobs every now and then." I said giving Gildarts a smile. Gildarts seemed to be happy to hear that as he clenched his fist in excitement with a grin on his face.

"Alright then!" Came the determined voice of Frag, which got me and Gildarts to look at him. "Throughout the next few months or so, me and you will meet up at the guild and determine what it is that we are going to do." He planned giving the both of us a nod. Me and Gildarts answered by giving him a nod of confidence and assurance.

"Heh, thanks for doing this for me Frag." I said with a smirk. "It'll be a big help for my future as a mage going forward. I'll need all the help I can get to do this." I said to the older mage.

"Hey don't worry about it Cade. We're Fairy Tail wizards, and that means that always try to help other when the need it the most." He smiled, as he held his hand up in the sky. I understood what he wanted from me, but there was a problem.

"Oh er, I can't reach that high Frag." I replied awkwardly to him.

Frag looked a little bashful upon hearing that and brought his hand down a bit for me to reach it. The both of us then reached up and hi fived his hand.

Year: X754: 30 years till canon starts.

For the next the three months I had been going on jobs with Gildarts and practising hard trying to focus on getting the Henshin spell to work a bit faster than I would have liked. I had made made some pretty good progress in that time.

Instead of it taking me all of my magic to fully cast the spell, it now took a small amount of magic. The time it took for the conversion to work depended on the size of the object. A small cube of solid magical matter took around a few seconds to fully convert, while a much larger object took around a few minutes depending on how big it was.

Of course I was now trying to focus on the next big step of this process. That being to try to and cast the spell without placing my hands on the solid itself. I knew that I would eventually get good enough using the spell, to the point where the conversion to stone would only take seconds no matter the size.

A few weeks ago I had started removing one of my fingers when casing the spell, every few days I would remove another finger when I feel that I was getting better at casting the spell with less of my hand on the solid in question. Right now, I was on the final stretch, and only had one finger left to go. After that, I should be able to cast the spell without placing my hand on the property in question.

But I hadn't been doing nothing with Gildarts either during that time. We had been going some more jobs every so often, so I was still gaining experience and getting better usage of my Ice Magic. Since I was getting better at my Ice Magic, I didn't feel it necessary to bring along all my enchanted swords with me. I also didn't really want to rely on them all the time to succeed at my jobs.

Unfortunately in that three month time span, nothing "big" had come up at all. By that I mean things I was looking out for important things that I had taken a mental note of. No shifty Celestial Spirit showed up which was a shame.

I also wanted to make sure that I was ready with this Henshin spell first before moving on. As such, I postponed my reading of Malvel's spell book.

Right now, I was standing the fields just outside of where Magnolia was, to practise more with Frag about changing the glass into stone. We had just made it up there, and he was preparing to cast a spell for me to practise on.

"Glass Pane." He said calmly, which summoned a pane of glass which had the size of an average window in a house. It wasn't that thick from what I could see, yet I don't think it would shatter if you were to punch it with all your might.

"Alright Cade, let's see how fast you can do this one. Feel free to use your entire hand for this if you what." Frag said, taking a step back to watch the show.

I approached the glass pane and placed my whole hand on it and prepared to cast the Henshin spell on it. "Henshin!" I creid, as I began the conversion process.

As I said the name of the spell and focused my magic on it, I could see that the glass was turning into solid stone at quite the rapid pace. Instead of it taking minutes for the glass to be converted into stone, it was now taking seconds for the stone to quickly replace the glass.

Not long after casting the spell, I could feel that no more of my magic power was being pushed into the glass pane. This meant that I had casted the spell successfully! I then walked around the pane (which was now just a stone slab) to be sure that it was all covered. Sure enough both sides were now solid stone.

"Excellent Cade. Now reverse it back to glass." Frag told me.

I then held out my hand towards the stone slab and focused my magic onto it again. This time I was turning the stone back into glass. This involved me focusing my magic onto the stone and trying to focus reversing the conversion process back to what the material originally was. I tried to focus my magic onto the stone, but I was having no such luck. I kept on trying for another minute or two, but nothing came up.

I simply sighed and held out my hand towards the giant slab. "Ice Beam…" I muttered which fired a beam of ice that completely destroyed the stone slab, into tiny little stone pieces. "Argh, I don't get why it isn't working! I've been practicing for months now." I argued in annoyance, as I turned back around to Frag.

"Ah don't worry about it Cade. Practice makes perfect. Doesn't matter if you can't get it right away, for as long as you focus and try hard enough next time you'll get it!" Reassured Frag confidently.

'Yes… thats the 17th time you've said that to me…' I muttered in my head, before sighing.

"Thanks Frag. Can I try casting the spell without using all my fingers now?" I asked to the mage.

"Sure can, just give me a minute." He said before holding out his hand again. "Glass Cube." He uttered, which summoned a decently sized cube of glass which fell to my feet (and didn't smash surprisingly) "Well here you go then." Before he dropped his arms to his side and waited patiently.

I then bent down and placed my hand on the cube, before removing all but one of my fingers. My thumb. I then began to focus and cast the spell on the glass cube.

"Henshin!" I cried, which slowly caused the glass cube to turn into stone. Due to how magic is focused through the body and out the end of the limb you are focusing on. It takes much, much longer for my magic to fully leave my body and turn the cube into stone. It didn't help that my magic was draining just as fast which didn't help the process.

While the process was going on, I could feel that I was fighting an uphill battle here. Not enough of my magic was being forced into the cube force the conversation rate to speed up. Yet my magic was being drained just as fast. I was noticed however that the side of the cube I was casting the spell on was almost finished, and it was now making its way to the other sides.

'Come on… I'm almost there.' I could feel that more and more of the cube was being converted. 'Just have to hold on a bit longer.'

It was coming down to who would run out first? My magic in my body, or the amount of glass that was in the cube I was focusing on? I could feel that it was coming down to a battle of seconds. Who would break first?

The answer was me unfortunately.

I had been so focused on determining how much glass was left, that I had completely missed how much magic I had left in my body. Right when I could feel the cube almost finished, I collapsed on the ground, due to not noticing that I was about to run out of magic.

'No! I was so close, come on!' I cried internally, as I felt Frag make his way over to me.

"Damn, you got close this time. Closest you've ever been I think." He whistled as he inspected the cube from all sides.

"I was so close as well…" I muttered with sadness, upon looking up at Frag. He simply looked down at me and smiled.

"What did I just say earlier?" He said with a smirk. "You're clearly getting better Cade. By next week you'll be smashing this, I guarantee it! Now I think you should take it easy for the rest of the day. Did it you say you would be going on a job tomorrow with Gildarts?"

"Yeah I did, I was planning to head down to the guild to see any of the jobs and what one we would like." I replied as I slowly got back up on my feet.

"Well, I'll come down with you then, I gotta get a job as well." He said, as we both then headed down towards the town, to procure a job. On the way we both chatted about things that had been going on in our lives and what jobs we were hoping for.

When we got into the guildhall, I saw that there wasn't that many people in the building. A few stragglers here and there, maybe a few in the basement for once? But what really surprised me was that Master Makarov was laughing to himself on the guild counter, while holding a bundle of papers in his hand.

Me and Frag gave each other a look of confusion, as we both made our way over to Master. "Uh, Master you ok there?" I said to the man hesitantly.

"Oh… I-I'm sorry you two. Just couldn't help myself with this job request. I could hardly believe it was real!" He explained before laughing away again.

"What is the job for exactly?" Frag asked curiously.

"Why it's for you Cade." Master answered calming down as he handed me the sheet of paper he was holding in his hand.

"What, me!?" I spluttered in surprise, as I quickly grabbed the job request and took a look at it.

'Someone wants my help? Who!?'

C-Class

Reward – 340,000 jewels

Requesting the assistance of Cadewell Philipe involving with matters in the East Forest.

"The East Forest?" I said with confusion. I then sat and thought about how who could have sent the job.

Then it hit me. I only knew the one person that would care enough about the East Forest enough to send out a job.

"Wait! The person who sent this must have been-!" I began to say in disbelief to Master Makarov. He simply laughed upon me saying that.

"That hermit must really be desperate If she's coming to my guild for help!" Laughed Master Makarov.

'Porlyusica needs my help!?' I thought in utter confusion.

And bingo! That's another part done and dusted. Do leave a review with your thoughts.

A few things happened in this chapter. We got to see the winner of the S-Class trials. Also we saw Cade show the high class spell to Master Makarov along with Cade practicing it. Finally we got another time skip of three months this time, which came with a strange job request… from Porlyusica herself?

You will have to wait for the next chapter to get your answers however!

I do hope you enjoyed this chapter, and I hope to see you in the next one! See you then!

Crhis11 - Glad you enjoyed the chapter.

IcySneasel - Considering that Enchantment Magic can effect the landscape, it's fair that you'd think of art as a possible spell for the magic.
