Chapter 39: The Story Of Lavender Village
Year: X756. 28 years till Canon begins.
Cade POV:
"Is… that a no then?" I said nervously to Elder Lotho.
"Hmm? Oh no. I was just surprised to hear you request such a thing." Elder Lotho replied. "You wish to invite some friends here…" He seemed to think about it.
'Didn't he say that he would grant the favour as best he could? Can't see much issue with this.' I thought.
"Just how many people do you plan on inviting here?" The Elder questioned.
I began to think of the people I could bring here.
'Hmm… Pierce and Charles are tending to the manor while we are gone, so they can't come sadly. I bet Lilly would love all the lovely things in the village. The lake, the library, the bakery; she'd go crazy. I think Cornelia might like to come here with Lilly. Gildarts should be getting ready to help Master Makarov with the S-Class trials, I doubt he'd have much time to spend here.'
"Just two people. They are close friends of mine and I bet they would love spending time here." I explained to the Elder.
Elder Lotho put his elbows on the desk and intertwined his fingers. "Where do they live? If I am to bring them here then I shall have to send a Seeker out to invite them."
'Yes! He'll let them come here!' I cried out with internal joy.
"Right. The town they live in is Magnolia. It's about three days from here. I can write down their addresses for you." I pointed to a pen and a blank sheet of paper on the desk.
Elder Lotho nodded at the helpful information, and I wrote the addresses of Lilly and Cornelia on the bit of paper with the pen. I then handed the sheet back to the Elder, in which he took it and examined it.
"Thank you. I shall be sure to notify a Seeker tomorrow to bring your friends here." Elder Lotho thanked me with a nod.
"Actually… could you hold on that for a while?" I suggested to him.
The Elder now looked quite confused, so I chose to elaborate for him.
"You see it'll be my birthday while I'm here in the village, hence I wanted to bring some friends up here to celebrate it with me. Thing is, I wouldn't want to pull them out of their lives in Magnolia for longer than I should have. It's mainly meant to be a getaway for a week or so."
"My birthday is on October 5th. So do you think you could send the Seeker out on the 27th September?" I requested.
Elder Lotho leaned back in his chair. "It shall be done. You must of course be aware of the idea that they may decline such a invitation. Perhaps they have something going on at their home that will mean they cannot leave."
"Yeah, I thought of that before I got here. If that's the case then there's nothing your Seeker can do." I shrugged as I said that.
"Now then, I believe you said you had some questions for me about this village. I have a feeling I will know what you will ask. Most outsiders that enter here ask the same questions as each other." Elder Lotho remarked.
"Yeah. I'll save you the trouble and ask you the big one first: Why is Lavender Village hidden from the rest of the world?"
The Elder hummed to himself. "The truth behind the founding of the village is a long story that is passed down from parent to child."
"It was around 200 years ago. Our village was once located on the outskirts outside the mountains. We were happy and simple people there, not needing to get involved in any major conflicts or troubles. No bandits or Dark Guilds would come there, as it was too far away from other forms of civilisation."
"However that would change, as one day a large meteor would fall from the sky. Chunks would break off the meteor and one of these would crash into our peaceful village. I was told it hit the village bell on the church, which alerted everyone to its existence. While the chunk itself was ordinary stone, there was a bright blue light that was seeping through some cracks in the stone. Everyone in the village saw this and broke the stone away to get a closer look at it. It was a small blue gemstone that apparently looked mesmerising."
"The villagers did not pick it up with their bare hands, fearing that the stone might harm them in some way. They enclosed it in some thick cloth and kept it hidden away. For a few days things seemed to back to normal." Elder Lotho looked to continue the story.
"Unfortunately it seemed that the peace that was once held over this village would soon disappear, as bandits and Dark Guilds would suddenly attack the village for seemingly no reason. The villagers however, somehow feared that the stone was behind this. When the next attack was repelled, they tried destroying the stone. To their disappointment, they were unable to succeed at this. Fearing that the stone would bring them more woes and misfortunes in their lives, they sought to get rid of it. But a young man would touch the stone, whether it was by accident or on purpose I do not know."
"This caused the stone to seemingly, and unknowingly bond with the man. When the villagers threw the stone into the ocean to get rid of it, the man found it in his pocket the next day. Yet he did not tell the other villagers fearing that they would banish him. Due to his silence, the village continued to be attacked for the next year. Fearing that a never ending curse was upon them, the villagers used a collection of different magics to make a sanctuary inside the mountain to hide away in. Eventually the man who touched the stone did in fact confess that he still had the stone. Perhaps the guilt of the situation was looming over him. He was swiftly banished and was never seen again."
Elder Lotho then sat back in his seat and took a deep, silent breath. "And that's it. That's how we have come to live in this mountain." He concluded his story.
My mind was racing with all the things he said just there. However, one of these questions suddenly popped up in my mind.
"Ok, here's the next question: Why haven't you guys left the village yet? The "curse" is now gone right?"
"It was a few months after the young man left. Our ancestors left the mountain to try and live on the surface and feel the sun on their skin again. However, they were hit with a few natural disasters that forced them back into the mountains. A few months after that they tried again, and were ambushed by some bandits. Similar sorts of situations like that continued for months on end. They concluded that the curse still remained and so they chose to continue hiding in the mountain."
"As for why I haven't brought my people out… well… I always used to think that it was safer in here than outside where there was the issue of criminals and horrible weather. However, I have met a few people in recent years that have convinced me that perhaps it is time to test the waters with the outside world again. Of course todays events have told me that I must still be cautious about such a decision."
I chose to speak up. "Well I think it's worth another go. Crocus now make sure to monitor the surrounding villages for any criminal activity, so the issue of bandits is relatively reduced. You kinda just got unlucky with what happened a few hours ago."
Elder Lotho then took his intertwined fingers and held them close to his mouth, his elbows still on the table where his face fell slightly. "Well… we may not have a choice now. After all…"
He then looked back up at me. "He got away didn't he? The person that you fought in the trees to rescue my daughter."
My eyes widened as I froze in my seat. How did the Elder find that out?
"Mato told me as you ran off to see your mother. He thought that it would be best if he told me the news, as you had a lot on your mind at that moment." Elder Lotho explained.
"I do not blame you for him getting away. He used a rather cheap and lowly move on you. I would rather had a hundred men like him get away rather than lose my daughter." He assured me.
"With the information about this village in his mind, I do not know what he'll do. He will most likely find out that we have a memory wizard, so he won't return here; at least not alone. Perhaps he will sell the information to others? I can't be sure. But I do know that we will be preparing for anything." The Elder said with a serious tone.
"I heavily doubt this will happen, but if I ever see the man again I'll be sure to hand him in to the authorities." I still felt a little bad about him getting away, but I couldn't go back and change the past.
"Is there any more questions you have for me?" Came the voice of the Elder, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"Ah yes there is. This is something that I've been trying to figure out myself while here, yet I seem to fall flat when thinking about it."
I sat up straight.
"What's this villages relationship with Fairy Tail? It seems like everyone here knows about the guild at least by name. When I showed Mato my guild mark when I first met him he didn't recognise it. Yet when I mentioned the name Fairy Tail to him he recognised it. Now when I met you, you immediately recognised the guild mark when I showed it to you."
The Elder gave me a deep smile and closed his eyes. "Well, you could say we owe Fairy Tail our lives Cade."
"Say what?"
"It was a few years ago, around when I first took the position as Elder. A carriage of supplies was ambushed by some criminals. They were able to overpower the Seekers there and force information out of them. After learning of the village and the main way in, they ambushed the village at night and burned a few of our houses. However, right before they lit fire to the schoolhouse where the children were hidden, all of them were taken out by a wizard that was tracking them."
"You might have guessed this by now, but all of them were taken out by a retired wizard from the Fairy Tail guild. He was tracking the criminals, as he originally stumbled upon them while he was taking a trip to the desert. Anyway, he cleared them all up and believed it would be best to spare the criminals despite their actions. Their minds were wiped and he took them to a nearby station for arrest. If not for him, my daughter as well as many others would have surely been killed. Many of the Seekers here know the name Fairy Tail, but not all know the symbol."
"Since that day, I've always felt like I should repay the debt I owe to the guild he was a part of. Imagine my surprise when years later, a boy and his mother wish to enter the village. When I learned that the boy was a part of Fairy Tail, I felt it would be best to welcome him in."
"I don't regret that decision one bit. If not for you then who would have rescued my daughter?" The Elder spoke up. "Still though… I think I've repaid my debt to the guild with how I have helped you."
"Heh, alright then." I chuckled. "By the way… what was this Fairy Tail wizard like?" I was curious about whether this would be someone that I had seen or knew of in the guild.
"He was quite old and elderly when I saw him, but I did not see what magic he used. He did not give his name, just the name of the guild he was previously a part of. Unfortunately, I am not sure whether he is still alive or not. He may have passed away in the time we last saw him." Elder Lotho gave a thoughtful sigh at that.
I thought back on all the information I had learned for the rest of today. I was quite satisfied having my questions answered, and not being left with more questions – like how most of my jobs go.
"I think that's everything I wanted to ask you. Thanks for all this." I thanked the man with a bow of my head.
"Oh, it's no bother Cade. I'll make sure to get a Seeker to travel to Magnolia on the 27th. Tell me, will you be joining us for the feast?" He questioned.
"I'd never miss out on a feast this big!" I proclaimed with a grin. "It's tonight right?"
"Indeed. The villagers are probably setting it up right now. It should be ready in a few hours time."
"Alright then. I'll be heading back to the monastery now." I said farewell to Elder Lotho, before I exited his office, and made my way out of his house. As I was moving out, I looked around to try and find Fea but I was unsuccessful in doing so. I think I wanted to see her about something, but the answers to the questions I had just asked for were buzzing all throughout my brain.
Alas, I could simply ask her later. I exited the Elders house and returned to the monastery to spend some time with my mother.
No POV:
As Fea closed the door to the bathroom behind her, she listened to try and hear the voice of Cade and her father. She was confused at the fact that she could no longer hear them.
She made her way to her father's office, and only saw her father in there sitting at his desk looking at a piece of paper. Where was Cade? Where had he gone?
"Father?" Fea spoke up. "Where has Cade gone off to?"
"I believe he said that was going back to the monastery. Did you wish to see him about something?" He replied as he looked up at his daughter.
"W-What? D-Did he forget?" Fea exclaimed with surprise. "I was going to show him around the house…" She muttered with sadness.
Elder Lotho looked stunned to hear this. "What?" He said as he blinked as if to think what he heard there was true or not.
"F-Father please! You have to hear me out here." Fea proclaimed.
Elder Lotho sat forward in his chair quite… interested in what his daughter had to say.
"Um… you see…" Fea awkwardly twiddled a bid of her hair in her fingers. "I think that Cade… might be the one I've been looking for…" She said in a hushed tone with a giggle.
Elder Lotho looked like the mountain he was living under had crashed down upon him.
"What!? Him?!"
"Y-Yes." Fea answered as she looked to the floor and blushed. "It was when he rescued me and was holding me in his arms. The sunlight then shined on the both of us and I realised that he was the one for me!" She squealed a little as she said that last bit.
Elder Lotho now looked dumbfounded. The revelation that his daughter was now in love with a boy was enough to break through his calm and serious demeanour.
"Uh… right… Well now that I think about it, he does have some good perks to him." Elder Lotho pointed out.
His daughter only giggled again. "I know right! His personality, his jet dark hair, his dreamy eyes, the fact that he rescued me…"
"Fea." Her father interrupted her.
"Oh yes, yes." Fea apologised for trailing off. "It's just… I think it'd really work between us." She said as she twiddled her knees together.
"Right, well, let's see here…" Elder Lotho thought about this carefully. "I think…"
Fea held her breath.
"He's a worthy boy of being with you." Elder Lotho concluded with a sigh. This is not how he thought the last few hours would be like for him.
Upon hearing that Fea gave a squeal of delight, and ran up to hug her father.
"Oh thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!" She cried as she squeezed him.
"Listen Fea. I won't be able to help you with any of this I'm afraid as I need to prepare for winter." The Elder informed his daughter awkwardly as he returned the hug.
"That's ok! I'm sure I'll be able to win him over and confess how I really feel about him before he leaves!" Fea assured him. "Thanks again father!" She said, as she broke the hug before she ran off from the office and to her room.
As she left, Elder Lotho just sat back down in his chair and thought about what had happened just there.
'Yes.' He reckoned. 'I really am getting old.'
Cade POV:
In the after hours of the talk with Elder Lotho, the huge feast to celebrate Fea's safety was held for the entire village. There was a huge, long table in which dozens of chairs for the villagers were placed. The table had plenty of foods for all. There was enough stake, chicken and fish to feed a large family of hungry Vulcans. I was sat with my mother at one end of the table, and we showed no mercy to the food that was before us.
I was surprised to see Master Han was able to leave the infirmary in a wheelchair and join us for the feast. While his physical injuries had recovered completely, he was still exhausted internally. The bullet that he was hit with drained all his magic and energy. The bullet also made it to where his magic and energy would have to slowly recover manually for him to feel the strength to return to his legs.
He would be able to walk again in the near future, but not for the next few days. The only person that I can think of that would have been able to fix him up with no issue would be Porlyusica. But she'd probably refuse such an invitation here. I was worried on how this would affect my training going forward, but Master Han assured me he had a plan for that.
Either way, we continued the feast with no issues and I soon felt like I would need a wheelchair due to how much I ate there. If I had any more food that night, it probably would have came back up my throat and out my mouth.
I said farewell to Mato and Fea, before I made my way back to the monastery with mother and Master Han who I was wheeling around. Gotta say it was annoying not to be able to leap up the stairs with my Soar spell, but what can I do?
When we got to the top of the stairs, mother volunteered to take the responsibility of Master Han off me so I could get to bed. I thanked mother for doing that for me and I returned to my bedroom for the night. I practically collapsed on my bed when I got changed into my pyjamas due to how exhausted I was.
When I woke up the next day, I felt very refreshed and ready for what today would bring. Master Han still said that he wanted to continue my training despite his current condition. He just told me not to worry and that he would explain things the next morning.
I made my way downstairs and entered the dining room to see Master Han there in his wheelchair. He was still in his pyjamas so he must have woken up recently. I saw that was facing a counter with a few cupboards above him and had a kettle which was sizzling away. He turned to see me as I came in with a look of calmness on him.
"Ah young Cade. Sleep well? I myself slept soundly." Master Han spoke up.
"Yeah I slept great. How are you feeling?" I asked hesitantly.
"A bit better after that sleep. I can barely move my legs for a few seconds before I lose my strength. My magic seems to be better, hence why I was able to get down here without any help." Master Han explained. "But it shall still take some time before I am fully recovered."
He reached up to a cupboard above him to see if he could reach the teabags that were up there. He seemed to be just out of reach, so I gave the man a hand and got it it for him.
With a snap of his fingers he summoned an empty cup and put the tea bag in it. Afterwards he poured the water from the kettle into the tea cup, before stirring with a spoon.
"Will we be continuing training today Master Han?" I asked as he stirred his tea.
"You shall be indeed. I will not be the one doing most of the work though. Mato has volunteered to come and help for today and the next few days seeing as how I can barely get out of this chair." Han answered.
"Really?" I was a bit surprised to hear that. Guess Mato has some free time on his hands right now. "You know Master Han, I think my hearing has improved a bit recently. When I was fighting the criminal who shot you and took Fea I had to use my ears to listen for him."
"That so?" Master Han remarked with interest as he held up his teacup and drank out of it. "Well then. We shall see how well you perform today. If you do well enough, then I can give you the final test for hearing."
"Can't wait for that. I'm getting tired of being knocked around so much." I muttered. "When will Mato get here?"
"He said he would be here around noon. We have a few hours until then." Han answered.
"Well I'll help you out with anything you need help with before then." I stated to him with a smile. Being wheelchair bound must seem like it's impossible to do most common things. Instead of waiting around aimlessly, I'd help the Master out around the place.
After I had something to eat for breakfast I helped Master Han around the monastery with some things he needed done. This included helping to fix the paper shoji window that the bullet came through the other day, as well as helping the man get changed and cleaning up around the various rooms in the building.
I did run into my mother while I was cleaning around the place. She offered to help me, and I did decide to accept her request. It was nice knowing that we were now both ok with each other other regarding my situation at Fairy Tale.
When I thought back on the past when I went out on jobs, I realised I never really properly understood how my mother felt about me going about my business at the guild. I felt relieved that we both agreed not to try to hold each other back. I had a feeling this would be the best for my future.
A few hours later, Mato arrived at the monastery. He just walked in through the front door and shouted out to declare that he was now here. I was currently with Master Han in the lounge, so we heard him loud and clear.
I wheeled Master Han out to see him. Han made sure to greet Mato as he was wheeled up to him.
"Mato, good to see you." Greeted a now much tidier and better dressed Master Han. "Ready to begin training up Cade?"
"Of course." Mato replied back, before he turned to me. "I hope you're ready. I won't be going easy on you just because you saved the Elders daughter." He addressed me.
"Don't worry Mato. You shouldn't need to be here for too long. I'll wrap things up quickly." I smiled mischievously at him.
"Oh? I can't wait for this." Mato grinned, him eager for what was to come.
"If we're finished could we make our way out to the back so we can begin?" Master Han spoke up suddenly.
Me and Mato nodded our heads and we both headed out to the back of the monastery, me wheeling Master Han there.
When we came to the back of the monastery Master Han directed me to the centre of the outer chalk line that made up the square.
"Now then. Mato you will be throwing a series of attacks at Cade here, and he will be relying on his hearing to dodge out of the way while blindfolded." Master Han then snapped his fingers and summoned a blindfold for me to wear.
Knowing the way of how this worked by now, I took the blindfold and made my way over to the centre of the square. Mato followed me and moved to stand a few metres ahead of me. I then wrapped the blindfold around my eyes and Requiped into my armour.
"Again, you will not be using any defensive enchantments for this training." Master Han spoke out to me.
"Fine by me." I nodded my head in agreement as I took an evasive stance.
I've finally figured out where I've been going wrong here. Instead of constantly trying to figure out where the attacks will be coming from, I should be a lot more relaxed and focused. If I keep myself on edge and in constant thought then I won't be able to focus on my hearing.
I took a deep breath and prepared myself.
"And… begin!" Master Han cried out.
…
…
*whoosh*
'Now!' I thought as I quickly rolled to my left to dodge an attack, before quickly standing up again.
…
…
*whoosh*
'To the right!' I quickly rolled to my right to dodge what sounded like a fireball.
*whoosh*
'Again!' I rolled to my right to dodge another fireball.
…
…
*whoosh, whoosh, whoosh*
'Oh come on!' I grunted internally as I darted from left to right to dodge more attacks.
…
*whoosh, whoosh whoosh, whoosh whoosh, whoosh whoosh, whoosh*
I swore I heard Mato led out a soft laugh as he was hurling these attacks at me. Was he enjoying this?
I found myself dodging and darting from left to right as I was barely avoiding the fireballs Mato was casting in my direction.
I was also beginning to get a bit tired now from all the constant effort of dodging. It was at times like this I wished I had my defensive enchantments on. They really did help save some energy.
I kept dodging from side to side listening with absolute precision of what direction the attacks would be coming from. Just when I thought I couldn't take anymore of this, Master Han interrupted us.
"That will do. I think I've seen enough." He called out to the both of us.
Mato seemed to halt his constant barrage of attacks.
"You may remove your blindfold now." Master Han instructed me.
I wasted no time in removing the dark blindfold and letting my eyes feel the light and colour of the world again. Upon adjusting my vision, I made my way over to Master Han, where Mato was standing alongside him.
"Well… how did I do?" I hesitantly asked the two men.
"I am quite satisfied by what I saw there young Cade." Master Han informed me with a smile. "You preformed exceptionally well in avoiding Mato's attacks there. Your hearing has definitely improved since you started days ago."
"I admit I was surprised to see you successfully dodge so many of my attacks like that. I was under the impression that you would have gotten hit at least once." Mato confessed to me with a smile.
"I know right! I could hardly believe it myself when I started to tune in to my hearing and dodge all the attacks sent at me!" I cried with joy.
Master Han then spoke up, breaking me away from my self praise. "Since we have much more time today than we usually would… how about we see if you can handle the next course?" He suggested.
"Wha-?"
"The next course? You mean the one that involves you sending the metal beams to the left and right of Cade's head? I don't see why not." Mato added.
"Wait, we're doing this? Now!?" I interjected.
"Why not?" Master said as he looked at me and snapped his fingers together, summoning the chair, headphones and eye guards that used for this course. Han then took the blindfold that I had in my hands out of my hand.
"I don't think you'll need this. Now then, get a move on with sitting down on the chair and equipping the eye guards." He said, as he began to wheel himself over to in front of the chair with Mato following him.
I grumbled knowing that I couldn't get out of this, and made my way over to the seat while picking up and equipping the eye guards and taking the headphones. I then took a seat on the wooden seat that I had now gotten so used to for the last few days now, before looking forward to see Master Han.
"You're gonna be ok for this right? Is your magic at a good enough point to summon the metal beams?" I asked Master Han curiously.
"I should be ok." Han said as he adjusted himself in his wheelchair. "You just focus on your hearing for the next few minutes."
He then leaned back in his seat and raised his hand, before I felt some magic pour out of him. Guess that he was able to summon the beams after all.
I put on the headphones and listened as carefully as I could for the metallic sound of the slow metal beams.
…
…
…
Mato and Master Han watched me with interest.
…
…
…
…
I felt a small trickle of sweat run down my forehead.
…
…
*screech*
'Now!' I realised, as I just barely heard the noise of metal coming my way.
I quickly stuck out the palms of my left and right hands and they hit a smooth metal surface causing a metallic sound to echo out. As soon as I did, the beams stopped moving.
'I-I did it! I was able to listen for the beams!' I cried with relief and surprise that I had actually did it! I took of the headphones so I could hear better.
"Well done young Cade." Master Han congratulated with a smile. He then waved his hand in the air slightly, and I could hear the sound of the metal beams being dissolved in the air. He then gave me an applaud for my feat there. "You really have improved your hearing. I'm looking forward to see how well you do in the final course."
"Yeah me too – sorry what?" I blurted out.
"Well it's only natural that you do this course now that you've done the other two. Plus, you're doing so well!" Mato said to me.
"Don't I get a break of sorts?" I questioned at both men, as I stood up from the seat and walked over to where they were.
Han snapped his fingers as he usually does, and the chair, eye guards and the headphones vanished into thin air. He then took a deep breath and snapped his fingers again, summoning the course of swinging metal beams that I had to avoid while blindfolded. Han gave a grunt when he did this, summoning that there must have drained him of quite a bit magic he had.
Mato turned to look down at him in concern, but Han shrugged his concern away.
"I'm fine Mato. Just a little tired after summoning such a big object there." He assured him. Han then cleared his throat to get my attention and handed me the blindfold he took from me earlier, before gesturing to the course.
"All right, all right. I'm going now." I held up my hands defensively as I moved over to the course. I was still in my armour so I didn't need to Requip into it.
Upon making it to the course, I walked up the wooden plank that led to the bridge (if you'd even call it that) to prepare for the course. I wrapped the blindfold around my eyes, blocking my sight once again.
'Gotta take it nice and slow here. Few steps at a time, and make sure to listen for any noise at all and stop if you hear it.' I reminded myself, as I had done this and failed every time before in the past.
"Begin when you are ready." Han instructed.
I took a few steps forward, as I knew before putting the blindfold on that I had a bit to go until the first beam could potentially hit me.
I then stopped to listen for any of the swinging beams.
…
…
*whoosh*
'Right there in front of me!' I realised, as I felt the sound of the wind just barely.
I waited until I could hear the beam swung by again, before I quickly took a few small stages forward and continued to listen again.
…
…
'Nothing… seems I'm ok for now.' I concluded as I took a few more slow steps forward.
I paused however when I felt the wind rush by my face, and something grace past my nose.
'Good god! I was less than a centimetre of my face getting hit by that beam. I have be slower here dammit!' I then listened for the sound of the beam swinging by again, before taking a few more steps forward.
After that, I made sure to move one step at a time and make sure to listen for the sound of the swinging beam. I had a rather close shave last time, and I'd rather not risk it again. Every time I took I step forward, I made sure that it would be safe for me to move by listening carefully.
A few minutes of this passed, progress was slow but I was making it nonetheless.
I had now came to what I thought was the final hurdle. Trickles of sweat now poured down the back of my neck and down my body due to how nervous I was of possibly messing this up right at the end. I was listening quite intensely to hear for the sound of any beams swinging.
I did catch the sound of one if them swinging quite close in front of me – maybe a few centimetres ahead of me. What frightened me though, was the fact that I think I could make out another beam swinging ahead of that one, but out off sync of the other one.
If I were to walk carefully forward, I would be pummelled by the side.
I wasn't sure how, but I could swear that this was the last two beams that I had to cross. Just somehow I knew. It's as if it was a gut feeling of mine.
To make this hurdle, I would have to go right as the first beam would swing by me. Then I'd have to wait a second or two before darting forward. This would mean that I would be a second or so away from being knocked off by the beam behind me. Still, I couldn't see a better option.
I took a deep breath, and listened carefully as I had done previously. I waved until the first beam swung by me, before taking a careful step forward and waited until I could hear the second bema swing by. I then took a huge step forward with my cape grazing the beam as I passed it.
"That's the end of the course." Master Han called out to me from below.
"Really? I did it?!" I wondered with surprise and shock.
"You did. Remove the blindfold and come down to see me." Han instructed me.
I did as he asked, and first removed the blindfold and found that I was inches away from the edge of the wooden bridge I was standing on. If I had taken another step forward I would have fallen off. I then simply jumped off the bridge, and made my way over to Master Han. Upon moving towards him I noticed someone was missing.
"Where's Mato gone off to?" I asked when I reached him.
"He had business with Reed to take care of." Master Han informed me, as he snapped his fingers, which caused the blindfold and the obstacle course to disappear into air as if it was never there.
"Now then." Han cleared his throat as he looked back at me. "You performed marvellous today young Cade. All of the courses complete just as I intended you to do. Your hearing is most definitely much better than when you first started."
I felt myself turn a bit red at the compliment. "O-Oh, well I couldn't have done it without you Master Han!" I admitted as I gave an awkward grin and scratched the back of my head.
"I think you are now ready to move onto the next of your five senses to strengthen. We have taste, sight, touch and feel. Some will be easier than others, but I think you can guess which ones they are." Han explained to me.

Happy Christmas to you all! Make sure you have some fun and relax today, wether you celebrate it or not. Alas, I did not receive my gift of the view count of this story being fixed. Oh well.
Now then, back to the story, if you liked this chapter make sure to leave a review!
We finally got some long awaited answers about the mysterious Lavender Village. To think it was the effect of a meteorite that caused them to hide in the mountains. And it was a wizard from Fairy Tale that saved them in the past. Just who could that be hmm?
Cade has also decided to invite Lilly and Cornelia from Magnolia up here when it gets much closer to his birthday. On the other hand, Fea is now planning a way to get with Cade successfully now that she has her fathers approval.
Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed this chapter and I shall see you all in the next one!
