I blinked slowly. What the? Where the hell am I? I looked around me. Trees as far as I could see. A soft breeze hits my skin. I see see what looks like a castle wall and a bridge.? What the? How did I get here? I was just on my way home from the city. DON'T TELL ME I'VE BEEN ISEKAI'D! Oh god, I don't want the Subaru treatment! I took a deep breath. I have to calm down and think logically about this. I don't remember getting off the train. I glanced around until I spotted a familiar mountain. Wait a minute, I know that mountain...THATS DRAGONSPINE, which means. I look back to the castle walls. That's Mondstadt. Holy crap I'm in Genshin Impact. "I'm in genshin impact." I jumped at the sound of my voice and immediately felt embarrassed. Honestly Dean get a grip.
I looked down at my outfit. I'm wearing something different too because of course, new world, new clothes. I immediately recognize what I'm wearing. I laughed hysterically. Cause sure why not? It's the outfit Natsu had on during the start of the 100-year quest. Fire dragon...I wonder...And there it is. A fire vision strapped to my sash. Well, at least whatever god brought me gave me an edge. Now did they give me a weapon? I tried focusing and soon enough a book materialized right in front of me. I stared. Huh. I'm grateful. I am. BUT WHAT THE HECK? The Tome of the Eternal flow was right in front of me. I crouched down to my knees. Hands on my head. " LIKE THAT NOT GOING MAKE ME LOOK LESS SUSPICIOUS! WHY THE HECK DO I HAVE A FIVE-STAR WEAPON? WHOEVER YOU ARE YOU CAN SUCK IT!"
I took ragged breaths. I coughed into my hand and cleared my throat. Enough of that, I need to find somewhere to stay. Thank God I'm near Mondstat. Don't they have a friendly atmosphere? Damn it, I need a cover story. I don't have any money so maybe I-What the? I feel some sort of..connection. Like there is a space I have access to. I blinked. The game menu for Genshin appeared in front of me. Huh, so I have a gamer-like element too. I focus again and the invertory menu opened for me. I gasped. This is everything I have from the game since I last played. Which means… And there it was. The Mora I made in the game was here too. 543,328,904 Mora. Holy… I need to lie down. I shook my head. I need to make it into town first. I'm starving. I start my way to Mondstat feeling anxious. Hopefully, no one will give me any trouble.
As I made my way over the bridge I spotted a young boy surrounded by pigeons. I must have been moving too quickly because the birds were immediately spooked. " What're you doing! You're scaring the pigeons away" I felt bad. "I'm sorry. I've been trying for so long that I got excited when I saw the city." Which was true because holy crap it's mondstat. It's real. The boy's face softened. "It's fine. They usually come back after a while anyway. Welcome to Mondstat, sir. I'm Timmie." I smiled. "Here. As an apology from me." I give Timmie five hundred mora, "Get whatever you want. My treat." Timmie's eyes widen. "Wow. Thanks, mister." I smiled and ruffled his hair. "Just call me Dean." Timmie nodded enthusiastically. "I could walk you the rest of the way Mr. Dean." I flushed in embarrassment. "It's just De-" Timme hurried off towards the entrance. I sighed. Kids these days.
Timmie stops to greet one of the knights by the entrance. "Hello Mr Swan! I'm done for the day." The short-haired Knight chuckles. "Done bird watching Timmie? You usually come a bit later. But it's a good thing you came. Your mother is looking for you." Timmie's eyes widen. "Uh oh. I better get going then." Timmie starts and then stops. "Oh yeah. This is Mr Dean. He really nice so I decided to escort him to the city. Aren't I just like the knights of Favonius? Huh, Huh?" Me and Swan exchange amused glances. "That you are Timmie. Haha. Hurry along now before you worry your mother." Timmie adopted a serious look and rushed off. "Hello Traveler. Mr Dean was it?" I blushed. "Just call me Dean. Actually, I'm seventeen so there's no need to call me Mr." Swan blinked. "Apologizes. You're so tall I thought… Dean, it is then. What brings you to Mondstat? I swallow any nervousness I had before. "Just looking for a fresh start sir. I heard Mondstat was the city of freedom. I thought, why not start as a new adventure here." Swan nodded. "That's very admirable Dean. Brave too. Well, you come to the right place. If you're looking to join the adventuers' guild, The receptionist Katheryne is right past this point. She'll also provide you with info on lodging and popular places in Mondstat."
I smiled in relief. I thought security would be a lot more tight and a lot less nice. But It's much closer to the game than I thought. "Thank you so much, Swan. You don't know how much this means to me." Swan smiled. "It's nothing. I'm just doing my duty as a knight of Favonius. If you need anything just feel free to ask me. And there are plenty of other knights willing to help too. Have a pleasant stay in Mondstat Dean." I nodded and waved him goodbye. I spotted Katheryne while I walked. The guild was close. Katheryne perked up when she saw me. "Ad astra abyssoque! Welcome to the Adventurers' Guild. I am Katheryne, the receptionist here at the guild. How may I serve you today?" I had to fight myself from grinning. SHE ACTUAL SAID THE THING! If I wasn't on the verge of losing my mind, I would be fangirling right now. "Hello Katheryne, I'm Dean, and I would like to sign up with the guild today. I also would like information regarding lodging. This is my first time in Mondstat."
Katheryne gives me a soft smile. "Please wait a moment while I get everything ready. In the meantime, how about you grab something to eat from Mondstat's finest? Good Hunter is not too far from here." Now that she mentioned it, I'm starving. I nodded. "Thank you so much Katheryne. You're the best." Katheryne gave me a pleasant smile and nodded. "I should be done when you're finished." I made my way to Good Hunter. Shocked and in awe of my surroundings. I see Marjorie outside the "Wind Comes Glory". She deals with actual customers. Usually, she just stands by herself in the game. And is that Timaeus? Performing alchemy for a customer? I frowned. This wasn't a game. I knew deep down but the sudden realization…No. Calm down. I can panic later. Right now I just want some food.
"Welcome to Good Hunter. How can I help you? Oh? Are you new to Mondstat?" asked the young waitress. I nodded, "Well let me introduce myself. I'm Sara. hehe. You're at the best restaurant in Mondstat. No. In all of teyvat!" I had to fight the amsument off my face. "Nice to meet you. I'm Dean. Why don't we see if you can put your Mora where your mouth is? Hit me. What do you got Sara." Sara snorted. "I like you already Dean. The menu is right here. I recommend the Moon Pie. We usually serve it during festival so it's not normally on the menu." I nodded. "Then I'll have that, please. And the Mondstadt Grilled fish. I'll have regular water to drink too." Sara gave me a big smile. "Coming right up. Wait over there and I'll bring it to you when I'm done." I took a seat at the table closest to Sara. I honestly can't wait to try the food. I need to plan my next course of action. When exactly am I in the timeline? Did the traveler already come through here? Which version of the traveler is it? Oh my god, Genshin isn't even finished yet. I only know so much. Wait. I focus again and the game menu comes to life. I wonder if I'm the only one who can see this. I concentrate on the archive and the menu pops up. Aha. All the info I have gathered so far on teyvet is here. Thank god. Anytime someone wrote a self-insert fanfic they always somehow remember everything. Even the tedious details. I clenched my hands. But that's because they're writing a story where they can research anything they missed. This is real. I can't afford to mess around. Let's see here, Living beings, Geography, Travel Log, and Equipment. I need to make sure to go over these tonight.
"Hello Traveler, are you new to Mondstadt?" I jumped. Standing next to me is the one and only Amber. Shit, what was her backstory again? Isn't she mistrustful of strangers? I gotta keep my guard up. "Hello stranger, do you always sneak on people? You nearly gave me a heart attack." Amber has the nerve to look sheepish. "I'm so sorry about that. I'm Outrider Amber, a knight of Favonius. I was on patrol till I noticed someone I hadn't seen before. You're not originally from Mondstadt are you?" I shook my head. Feeling a little annoyed. "No, I'm not from Mondstadt. I just arrived today. Though I didn't think it was an issue being a traveler in the city of freedom." I said pointedly. Amber blushed and waved both her hands. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to sound like I was interrogating you. We recently been trouble on the road and I wanted to know if you had any trouble getting here." Now it's my turn to blush. "Oh, uh no trouble at all. I'm pretty strong so there's not much to worry about." Compete bullshit. I don't know how strong I am yet. I hope that doesn't come to bite me in the ass.
Amber nodded like she believed me. "I notice your pyro vision so I figure you would be strong." Oh yeah. Having a vision does make you strong in this world, doesn't it? But even so… Amber blushed when she realized the look I was giving her. "Not that I'm suspicious or anything. Okay, maybe a little. We haven't been getting a lot of visitors lately. Especially with the recent monster activity." I sighed. "It's fine. I'm sure you're just doing your job. Amber was it? Why don't you join me for lunch? My treat." Amber shook her head. "I don't want to intrude." Sara comes excitedly to the table. "Here you go. One Moon Pie and Mondstadt grilled fish." Amber starts dooling with stars in her eyes. "Moon Pie?! Well if you don't mind." Me and Sara exchange amused looks. "I take it you like Moon pies" Sara snorted, "It's because of Amber here that I'm almost out." Amber groaned. "Sara! Don't say that. You're going give people the wrong idea!" Sara stared dryly at her. "Or the right one" She deadpanned. I snorted and Sara smiled. "Enjoy the meal."
I started immediately tearing into the fish. I raised my eyebrow at Amber. "I could eat the moon pie if you don't want to." Amber stuttered. "No that's okay." I smiled at Amber. "What brings you to Mondstadt?" I hummed and thought carefully about this. "I guess I just needed a fresh start." Amber nodded. "You seem so young. Did you come with your parents?" My face dropped. "My parents are no longer here. That's why I couldn't stay home." Which was true. That's why I was on my way to Long Island. My grandparents didn't trust my brother to take care of me. Amber frowned. "Oh. I didn't mean to bring up any bad memories." I waved her away. "It's fine. I'm here for a brand new start. There is so much I haven't seen. Adventures just waiting around the corner. Isn't this the kind of thing Lord Barbados likes? He is the one to inspire me after all." Amber jumps up. "That's it! Come with me uh?" this time we both blushed. "It's Dean. Dean Dragneel." Don't judge me. I'm wearing the outfit and I'm in a new world. Lay off. Amber smiled and nodded. "Dean. Come on!" She grabbed my wrist and led me away. Sara watches Amber lead me away. "Hey! That girl. I'm charging it to the knights you know! Always in a hurry." Sara shakes her head.
"A glider!" I'm so stoked. It's not exactly flying but it's the next best thing. Of course, Amber was going to give me a glider. She seemed so smug when she showed it to me. The glider licensing exam was around the corner. Was it the same one with the traveler? I don't wanna ask Amber if there have been any dragon attacks recently. It's better if I lay low for now. Anyway, Amber made sure to teach me how it worked. Since this is more realistic I wonder if I could use Pyro to boost myself? Like a fire-bender. Something to revise later on. I'll take in all I can for now and refer for another time. I spent the next two hours gliding around with Amber. She is not a bad person. I would say her enthusiasm is quite contagious. We glided back towards the main entrance to the city. I waved her goodbye as I made my way to Katheryne.
"I'm sorry I'm late. Outrider Amber was teaching me how to glide." Katheryne smiled in kind. "ad astra abyssosque. Greetings traveler. I gather the needed forms. Please fill this out." I look down at the sheet of paper. Interesting. They're all in English. Is English the main language here? Let's see here. Name? Dean Dragneel. Age? 17. Vision? Yes, Pyro. Weapon? Catalyst. Address? "Miss Katheryne? What do I put for the address?" Katheryne hummed. "It's fine. I'll take care of the rest. I made arrangements for you to stay with someone from the guild. Their current tent recently left so it's been vacant for a while now." I let out a sigh of relief. "I can't thank you enough. Where can I meet them?" Katheryne quickly wrote something down. "The place isn't too far from here." I glance at the directions. Oh. It was right next to Blacksmith, Wagner was it? I should get going. The day is starting to get to me. I waved goodbye to Katheryne and Started my way toward Wagners.
"Hello there young traveler! Are you the one I'm waiting for?" I recognized that voice. I stared. Then I stared some more. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!? Standing in front of me is none other than the Guild master for the mondstadt branch. Guild master Cyrus. Cyrus perked up at me. "Is something wrong young man?" I twitched. "Nope. Nice to meet you, Sir. I'm Dean Dragneel. Please take care of me." Cyrus roared with laughter. "Well met Dean Dragneel. I'm Branch Master Cyrus. I hear you're the new recruit. Come, Let me show you your room." I step in pretty nervous. Wall to wall. Everywhere I looked I saw so many interesting artifacts and gemstones. Weapons, toys, anything you could think of. Cyrus most noticed my look because he smiled at me kinda fondly. "It's okay boy. Most new visitors are always in awe when they come here. What you see before you are living proof of my time as an adventurer. Maybe you'll add something to it one day, hmm. This way, I prepared your room. This used to be my Sister Iris Room back in the old days. I'm sure you like to get settled in." I nodded gratefully.
"I have to get back to the guild. But if you need anything I'm sure the knights won't hesitate to lend a hand." And just like that he gone. I exhaled. I don't blame them if they decided to have the branch master keep an on me. I haven't seen that many knights around. I wonder…My gut is telling me I'm just at the start of the traveler's journey. The atmosphere seems kinda tense. I took off my outside clothes and sat down on the bed. This is a plain old room. Iris most had not left anything behind. I wonder if that's normal for an adventurer? I laid down lost in thought.
Though Amber has been nice she has still been a little weary of me. Not only that, they even put me with branch master Cyrus. I shouldn't let my guard down. This world is a pretty dangerous one. I have to do my best to leave a good impression. I turn on my right side. Can I go back to my original world? How did I get here? And with a vision too? Could my memories have been sealed like the traveler's? I frowned. Maybe I was made a part of this world. There is no way I came the same way as the Traveler. I don't have any original power. I snorted. Unless you call daydreaming about a better life a superpower. I have to focus on all I can do for now. If I'm here before storm terror attacks the city. Then I need to leave with the traveler. Besides Paimon They're kind of a loner. Maybe I can bribe them with info on their sibling? But the game wasn't even finished. What info could I possibly give them? I sighed. Guess I'm going to cross that bridge when I get there.
I wonder which sibling will arrive? No offense to Aether but I picked Lumine. She had main character energy from day one. Prince Aether is so edgy. I can't take him seriously. Woah. It hit me that I'm in a video game. Maybe I should be grateful it's not somewhere worse. Can you imagine if I was in Resident Evil? Or Final Fantasy? Or even Kingdom Hearts? That last one I wouldn't even be able to take anything seriously. Like why is Donald Duck lugging around a nuke? It's utterly ridiculous. I guess Nahida is my safe bet. I could confirm how I came here when her quest started. I turn on my other side. I'm not doing anything but stressing myself out, I should get some sleep and come back to this tomorrow. I have a lot to do before I can even begin planning to leave. Like how do my powers work? Before I knew It, I entered complete darkness.
Unknown to me. Some have been watching my every move since I came here.
"Oh ho, what's this? I had never seen a soul like this before. So bright and pure. Almost like a star. It just gave this old bard a new idea for a song. Yes… It just might be my greatest one yet."
