AITA for overthrowing a monarchy run by a pervert and introducing entire new revenue streams, revitalizing and expanding the country's outdated economy?

On top of that, I lean hard into inclusive hiring practices. Look at the people in my C Suite - lots of women, people of color, and queer friendly. (And I hired ex - sort of ex-felons.) My second in command was a woman.

Who did Nefertari put in positions of power? Only men and men who looked just like him.

Look, we all know that monarchies are the most arcane, superstitious form of government around.

Am I am seriously supposed to believe that this King Nefertari, a man who peeks on women in the baths and invites his guests to do the same, is the one fucking human being in all of Arabasta capable of supreme rule? The man's own daughter ran away from home.

Can't blame the girl. I heard he permitted his guests to watch her in the baths. If he had worked for me, I would have fed him to the crocodiles. Sexual harassment is not tolerated in my organization. I have an entire section on it in the employee handbook.

I get there were complaints about how I ran the kingdom. But let me tell you, rural communities with already declining populations stretch a government's resources. They are a strain on the infrastructure and environmentally unsound.

Do you have any idea how much it costs to protect them from bandits? It's cheaper to move entire villages into the capital, house & feed them, instead of sending the military out on endless patrols in the vast deserts.

As a society, we need to take of our rose-tinted glasses and see without nostalgia. Who were these small towns really great for? If you had land, were a man, and looked like the majority, it was probably great. Otherwise, it must have felt like the largest sand trap in the world.

So, I engaged in some environmental manipulation and propaganda tactics. It was, for a takeover, pretty bloodless. I went in smart instead of bloody.

How many kings over history have done the same thing?

ESH, but I'm on the fence leaning towards NTA.

I'm with you on that monarchies are the most corrupt and stupid forms of government around. They just suck! Like, some magical invisible being from the sky picked one family to rule forever? And we're supposed to believe it because the people with the land, the money, and the power said it's true? What am I, stupid?

But you replaced one bad form of government with what sounds like some kind of capitalist free for all. It's marginally better than a monarchy, but that's a low bar. Capitalism inevitably leads to massive income inequalities and you end up with oligarchic capitalism. People may have the illusion of freedom and upward mobility, but it ain't going to happen if hurts the rich man's pocket.

And good on you for not being a gross ass old pervert. And for doing what any employer should do by not discriminating. I don't know that you should pat yourself too hard on the back for either of those two things. Those are normal, ethical human being things to do.

It sounds like this Nefertari dude doesn't deserve to rule, but maybe you should stick with being a business guy. You hinted at some sketch behavior in taking over this kingdom. It makes me not trust your story completely.
