I get the vandals—two of them at least. The other two ran off. But now, I get to interrogate. I leave them in the interview room for an hour before calling their parents just to make them sweat. Both parents told me they didn't need to be there and to let the two suffer. Aside from the vandalism charges, it sounds like their moms are already coming up with punishments.
"You're both in serious trouble, but you can make it a little easier on yourself if you cooperate," I tell them, standing on the other side of the table as I narrow my eyes at the two boys. "I want names of who was with you."
"You can't ask us questions without our parents," Nick says.
I smirk. "They gave me permission. So, give me some names and I'll tell the judge you cooperated, and you might just get community service instead of juvie."
"We'll go to jail?" Brian asks.
I nod. "You could. You destroyed seven houses' decorations. So, talk to me."
"Jess Michaels and John Fitzgerald," Brian says.
"Dude!" Nick yells.
"None of this was my idea!" Brian yells. "I'm not going to jail for this."
Honestly, they probably wouldn't get time in juvie, but they don't know that.
I smile triumphantly. "I'll call your parents and tell them to pick you up."
I leave the interrogation room, and I have two deputies pick up the other two kids to get them charged. It's only three a.m., and I've yet to sleep because of the stakeout, so I wrap things up and head home.
Edward's in my bed, sound asleep, and I crawl in with him after changing. He turns and pulls me close to him, resting a hand on my stomach.
"I love you, gorgeous," he says sleepily.
"I love you too, handsome. I got my vandals."
"Mm, good for you."
"Night."
He squeezes me a little. "Good night, lovely girl."
He quickly falls back asleep, and I'm left loving the feeling of his arm around me. I asked him to stay the night here to keep Ulysses company, and it's wonderful coming home to him. I can't wait to start house shopping and finding something that's ours.
I sleep in a little, missing Edward leaving for work. He left a note that says he fed Ulysses and not to trust the cat when he acts hungry, which is good because Ulysses is standing at the pantry, expecting more food.
By the time I get into work, the two other vandals have been arrested and charged. Now it's up to the judge to seal their fates. About an hour into my day, Jasper shows up with an early lunch for us—subs from Bert's.
"So, it's official," he says. "Allie and I are having a baby. She's thirteen weeks, so I'm allowed to actually tell you."
I grin. "I'll go see her later and congratulate her. I'm so happy for you, Jasper. When do you find out what it is?"
"We don't. Alice wants to be surprised, so she's already planning a neutral gray nursery and will add colors once the baby comes."
"Oh, wow, I don't think I could wait."
I know I can't. I'm finding out the second I can what I'm having. Edward and I aren't telling people yet. We plan to tell our families at Christmas, and then at twelve weeks share the news with the world.
I really want to tell Jasper though. Our babies are going to grow up together, and it's exciting. But I also don't want to rain on his parade because they've been trying for so long, and then I accidentally get pregnant. Maybe I can convince Edward to let me tell them at Christmas.
Speaking of which, my dad is coming for the holiday. I haven't seen him in over a year, so I'm looking forward to it. He just decided the other day to make the trip. He knows about Edward and that it's serious, so I'm hoping he doesn't react badly to the pregnancy news.
"Well, I better get back across the street to the station," he says, balling up his sub wrapper.
"Okay, I'm going to stop over when I get home and congratulate Alice in person."
"Sounds good. Take care, Bella."
I get back to my paperwork until the sub sandwich decides it wants to come back up. Luckily, I have my own bathroom and make haste to it. I can barely keep any food down even with the meds the doctor gave me. It's getting rather annoying and not so easy to hide.
I brush my teeth, and then finish up for the day around four. I go straight next door to Alice's house with a bouquet of carnations. She answers with a grin.
"He told you."
I nod. "Yep. My best friend is having a baby! Congratulations, Alice. I know how long you've wanted this."
She takes the flowers and leads me into her house, finding a vase for them.
"I can't believe it's finally happening. But I'm out of the first trimester, and the baby is perfect."
"That's great. Have you had a lot of morning sickness?"
She shakes her head. "Early on, there was some, but nothing horrendous. I think I got lucky because I've heard horror stories."
Yeah, me.
"Well, I'm glad you're feeling good."
"Oh, I am. I'm already decorating the nursery. We bought a crib, and Jasper is painting this weekend."
"Yeah, he said you're going neutral because you don't want to know the gender."
She nods. "It's life's greatest surprise."
"I'm so happy for you, Allie."
"Thanks, Bella. Who knows. Maybe Edward will knock you up and our kids will grow up together." She laughs.
Little does she fucking know.
I don't own Twilight.
Thanks to Ashley, May, and Mary prereading and Sally for beta'ing.
My main excuse for how long it's been is FFN not sending out alerts. Other than that, I moved to Indiana for my husband's job, got sick, got sicker, wound up in the hospital, and then got sick again. We're not super far from the end so I'll try to update a few times a week. If you're still here, thank you!
