The moment the duo heard that loud, anger-fuelled voice both of them froze in place. Theseus twirled around and paused his stride back to their base to confront this problem, his coat swaying in the direction he turned. All the while, the male had to bite back the urge to snarl in frustration 'Great, just what we fucking needed more shitheads…' he thought in dismay.
Such sentiments dominated Meredith's mind too though she hid them from her face well. She too turned to the direction the angry voice had come from, her dress doing the same as Theseus' coat to look at the furious gaze on Retsuza, the politician with his multi guard escort standing not too far away from them.
The said politician was looking angrily at the destruction around him that had been a byproduct that the ambush had caused, his face utterly red with his fury and none of the previous colm condescension he had previously. It honestly seemed rather two-faced, but then again that was what most people were like these days.
Shifting his gaze to Meredith, the yokai politician pointed an accusing finger at him while ranting so much that spit started flying from his mouth. It was a good thing that they weren't within arm's reach of one another because Meredith didn't know if her current state would restrain her urge to punch him should he dirty her beloved dress. Though she FELT dirty anyways thanks to this failure. "Look at this place, it's a goddamn mess! A fucking disaster, look what you did to the glass!" His finger then shifted to where the glass interiors were, showing the ones which were destroyed in the middle of the building.
"My apologies sir…" The auburn haired woman began, lowering her head in a slight bow towards the angry politician. Despite her and Theseus' states the need to play damage control rendered her unable to join him, hence why she needed to deal with this issue before it caused additional rifts between their factions. "It appears that-"
Whatever she was wanting to say got cut off before it could fully leave her mouth, thanks to the politician interjecting in the rudest manner possible. "I don't want to hear your fucking excuses, you rabid dogs!" Retsuza sneered, approaching the woman and stopping till they were within arm's reach. Thanks to this it became easily apparent that between them, the Yokai had been a couple head's taller than her and that didn't take into consideration the species differences between them. "I fucking KNEW entrusting beasts like yourselves with any of our sacred territory was a damn mistake! The Gods should have just smited you and those filthy Devils the first chance they got!"
'Tch, this is going nowhere…' Meredith thought, trying her best to maintain her cool in front of this raving lunatic as WELL as suppress the fury building rapidly within her at every insult he made to her and Hellsing. She bet that he normally would have kept such thoughts to himself even though during their meeting she had seen signs of these thoughts being present and hence became more cautious when handling him, hence why she had been able to maintain a somewhat calm facade till now. But thanks to this ambush, the man had smelled blood and like a hound he had leaped at the chance to initiate trouble. 'If I don't figure out how to calm him…'
"That's it, this deal is no longer acceptable!"
"?!"
All of a sudden, in a fit of anger the Retsuza made that statement that sent Meredith and Theseus into a shocked silence, evident by the slight widening of their eyes as the politician procured the papers consisting of the deal struck between them from one of his bodyguards.
The sight of them quickly caused shock and confusion to the young woman. 'How the hell did he…?' she wondered internally, before she internally facepalmed when she thought back to when she had seen her companion's deadly situation. It hadn't taken her long to excuse herself and go to him, of which she must have neglected to take the papers with her.
Yet another stupid move on her part.
"I should've known better than to deal with a bunch of lunatics, belonging to the craziest faction there is." the ferret said to them before throwing the documents down to the ground, scattering it. "A bunch of trouble your bodyguard has made on my building, do you know how much it would cost me? And how long will it take for them to rebuild all this out of scrap?!" he gestured to the glass shards around them while reminiscing the thought of those expenses it would cost to repair the building. Not to mention the elevator and the employees he was going to have to interview and make sure they didn't let what happened here reach the human media.
All of this had been due to Hellsing's arrival.
This was bad, things were going to get worse if she couldn't salvage this situation. "Sir please calm down." Meredith began while she tried to calm him down as she attempted to give him a reason to settle down. "I promise you that the Hellsing will pay the entire damage fee and-"
"FORGET IT!" he shouted at Meredith with a furious expression. "I don't want your fucking blood money, I don't anything from the UK faction! All of you are a bunch of crazy people who can't even put a leash on their dogs! Rabid animals you all are, nothing but rabid fleabags!"
Each word from that ferret made Theseus' blood start to boil in anger, but he nevertheless restrained himself from acting in his superior's defense. If he made any careless moves especially considering the circumstances, then the situation would have more dire consequences in store for them. His veins on his hands were showing but he needed to hold it.
Once again Meredith attempted to speak once more, but when she opened her mouth, Retsuza conjured a magic circle and incinerated the documents.
WHOOSH!
Meredith widen eyes. The documents, the agreement she had sent to the finance minister, all the plans she had were gone. All gone, ruined. Everything she planned for was thrown to the flames.
"If I had thought more carefully then I would've never agreed with meeting the Queen's spoiled mutt. Everywhere Hellsing goes, death follows them. Wherever they go!" Retsuza spread his arms towards the destruction, showing an example he would use to illustrate his almost deluded ranting with his gaze going increasingly along the insane path. "Nothing but pure death, destruction, chaos and despair."
Theseus gripped his hands hard with his bones cracking. He was almost there, but he couldn't. Not yet, not now. 'Keep it together, keep it together now. You trained with Alucard for 10 years, this should be nothing to you!' he mentally said in his mind while restraining his fury. He needs to leave quickly or else.
But the next rant he said caused him to lose it.
"Abraham should've killed that monster you keep under your dungeons. Let the world be free from its nightmare! From Hellsing! From you whore! So everyone can sleep in peace knowing that bloody vampire is dea-"
WHOOSH!
CLINK!
BAM!
"AHHH!"
That did it, he could hold back no more especially after those insults to his master and superior. With a look of pure bloodlust on his face, Theseus summoned both his Trident and Bolt Pistol, both being aimed at the Ferret Yokai. His gaze one of murder, Theseus attacked by firing a round from his Bolt Pistol next to the politician's face, causing him to yelp in fright but more importantly it shut his mouth. Not giving him time to process what had happened, Theseus appeared before him and pointed his Trident inches away from Retsuza's wide and suddenly fearful eyes. One false move, and the world would have to add another to the ranks of the blind.
"MASTER!" his bodyguards called out to him in alarm before they quickly acted, shooting towards Theseus with their halberds ready to strike the Shark king.
Theseus, now having full control of his power, unleashed his BOE form's partial transformation with two extra arms sprouting from his shoulders as well as it's tail sprouting from the back of his waist. In an instant Theseus struck one with his Tail by flicking it towards the guard's face with enough force to knock him out, before he had his extra arms grab the other by his head to then smack him into the ground headfirst, knocking him out too.
SWISH! BAM! BAM!
Now that distractions were taken care of, Theseus released his aura, making lightning static appear around him whilst his bloodlust saturated the entire space around them. His sharp, fanged teeth got bared to the world while growling at the ferret. "No one…..talks that way to my master. Not even a fucking ferret or a rat, you see." Theseus said to the scared yokai who was shaking in fear at Theseus' angry gaze on him. "You call us monsters, correct? Well here is a monster in front of your face. Now look at it, and then look at yourself. What emotion do you feel right now? I'll tell you, it's fear. Fear that you have never seen real terror." The male declared slowly, his Tail slowly encircling around them and pointing it's two tips in a stabbing motion towards the politician.
Apparently having SOME guts to his name, Retsuza somehow gathered enough courage to speak back to him. "D-Do y-you k-know w-who I a-am? I am Retsuza, I handle all the finances and economy for the east youkai faction! I stand alongside our leader! I have special permission from the shinto go-"
"WHO GIVES A SHIT?!"
BAM!
"EEEKK!"
The politician apparently didn't have as much guts as he proclaimed though, proven when he squeaked in fear when Theseus smashed the nearby ground with his Tail, showing his immense strength that made cracks spread out from the point of impact, further damaging his precious building and mocking him.
Theseus got close to his face and yelled at his fearful expression. "HOW ABOUT BEING IN MY POSITION, YOU FUCKER! WHAT WOULD THOSE MERCENARIES HAVE DONE IF I HADN'T RISKED MY ASS FOR A BUNCH OF SELFISH-CENTERED ASSHOLES LIKE YOU?!" Theseus angrily shouted at his face, pulling his trident back from his face before repositioning it close to the man's neck, it's tips about inches away from piercing through his vocal cords.
Meredith quickly grew alarmed at those actions (especially when she noticed how dangerously close the Trident was to drawing blood) before quickly going to Theseus' side. She needs to stop him before he does something irrational. "Theseus stop this! I order you to-"
"SHUT YOUR FACE ORDINTON, OR I'LL MAKE SURE IT WILL BE THE LAST BREATH YOU TAKE!" Theseus shouted back before she could finish, pointing his bolter pistol at Sir Integra's apprentice, showing his fury expression also aimed at her. Meredith widened her eyes at his bold action, he obviously never done this before no matter how stressful or even backlash at either Sir Integra or even her.
Seeing Meredith become quiet, he directed his attention to the coward ferret. Theseus then kicked him on the stomach.
BAM!
"ACK!"
The force of the kick dragged him across the front wall, adding even more cracks on his building. Retsuza groaned in pain for a few seconds before he was lifted again by Theseus on his fancy shirt as he slammed his back at the wall. Theseus glowed with power, fury and anger. "Here is what's going to happen." He used his extra arms to aim at the burning paper and conjured water to extinguish the flames. Most of the pages were burnt, but a few of them were still intact. Theseus telekinetically brought the pages to his hand before roughly giving it to the ferret in front of him. "You will head back to the Shinto pantheon, show the agreement and we'll never have to meet again, understood?"
"W-what m-makes y-you think I-I'll do that?! You've got nothing over me! They won't even honor the agreement between your godforsaken faction when I tell them what has happened just now!" Retsuza argued back to Theseus with the same fury, but not as intense as the boy in front of him.
Theseus gritted his teeth, fury blazing within him. He was on a roll right now, and nobody would be stopping him. "I don't care what you say about us to your leader or gods. I don't care what rumors or slander you spread among us, all I DO care is for you to just get the fuck out of here! I'm getting more frustrated just by seeing your mixed animal race! A pathetic being that's what you are! So do me and everyone a favor." Theseus leaned forward to get close to the scaredy cat's face, his slit eyes glowing. "And get the hell out of here while you take those papers to your leader."
With that final sentence, Theseus dropped him, making him fall to the ground as he still has a stunned expression. Theseus turned around and walked away from him, no longer having anything to say to him. Mercy was upon that mixed animal because despite his anger, the Shark king wanted one thing out of the way which is the agreement so he wouldn't have to deal with it in the future. Ever again.
Retsuza was still dazed. Frozen with fear on his emotions, he would've been like that, had not the rat Yokai grabbed the papers that had fallen to the ground when Theseus roughly gave it to his boss and shook his boss. That broke his daze, he shook his head and quickly got up and pointed at Theseus who still had his back turned away from him, not even acknowledging his presence. "YOU WON'T HAVE THE SHINTO'S ALLEGIANCE EVER AS LONG AS YOU BLOODY CRETAINS STILL LIVE! ONCE WORDS GET OUT ON EVERY CORNER OF THE WORLD, THEY WILL KNOW WHAT A CRAZY FANATIC FACTION YOU ALL ARE! MARK MY WORDS HELLSING, SOMEDAY THAT FACTION WILL FALL INTO RUINS AND WHEN THAT TIME COMES, EVERYONE WILL BE DANCING IN YOUR GRAVES! YOU HEAR ME, BEAST?!"
With that said Retsuza quickly conjured a magic circle in front of him before running towards the teleportation alongside the Rat Yokai. He glanced at Theseus back who still does not acknowledge their presence before hurrying towards the magic circle. The moment he did, the magic circle disappeared.
Now that they were alone save for the silence that now dominated the atmosphere, Meredith showed a frustrated expression before walking towards her subordinate. "What were you honestly thinking, Theseus!? That was very reckless of you! And why did you even threaten him? Don't you know what would happen if word gets out because of your actions?" Theseus did not respond to her. Not a single word has come out of his mouth. That angered Meredith further. "Thanks to your actions, now the Shinto's will be more wary of us when we are in their territory! Do you know how long and how much work I have to do?! The Shinto and probably the whole world will most likely now think twice before even associating with us!"
"...I honestly do not want to hear this, Ordination." Finally, Theseus uttered those words in a low voice, lower lip slightly trembling. His various BOE appendages remained deployed while he still had his weapons in each hand... which allowed one to notice signs of his fury not abating in the slightest in the form of the hands gripping their respective weapons so tightly one could hear his bones were cracking and veins could be seen pulsating.
"Oh so now you call me by my last name? And you don't want to hear this? Well listen carefully you big olaf! Your actions will damage the Hellsing's reputation, making everyone in the supernatural fear us more! And when they are fearful, they'll get desperate! They'll be increasingly likely to plot our immediate demise, all because of you! Do you have anything to say, anything at a-ACK!" when Meredith continued to lecture Theseus about the possible consequences he will cause in the future.
However, that was when something within Theseus (likely his remaining fucks to give) finally gave way. What happened had done so only in a couple seconds, where the male flipped his weapons into the air, letting them be grabbed by his BOE arms instead before he shot forth with his right hand and grabbed Meredith by her throat to cut her off. Making her slam to the nearby building.
Not having anticipated this, the woman once again widened her eyes in shock before she tried to get him to let go by grabbing at his hands with her own. While this happened Theseus had slowly lifted her so that the tips of her heels barely touched the ground, though this went unnoticed by the woman they were attached to. However, she idly glanced up into his eyes during these frantic few precious seconds and noticed the sheer mercilessness behind them akin to that of a frenzied berserker. This gaze made all resistance within her cease almost immediately like water being used to extinguish a raging fire.
'That's…!'
Pure horror and dread suddenly assaulted her senses as, in Meredith's eyes, she saw the visage of an angrily snarling Alucard alongside the furious male. There had been few times when the Vampire King had been genuinely angry, and it was not something that Meredith had ever wanted to have aimed at her… since those who pissed him off usually met horrific, gruesome ends.
"Meredith..." He called her name calmly almost eerily so which made her blink and the illusion vanish. Although she soon wished it hadn't since that calm voice sounded even scarier somehow. "Can you do me a favor…. By shutting the FUCK UP?!" By the end of his question, his tone became that of a shout resulting in him yelling at her face with the same anger he showed to the ferret. "I did you a fucking favor by having that mixed animal race keep the documents! But instead of gratitude or any gracefulness, you only showed nothing but annoyance!" He roared, and if he had the option he likely could have spat flames from the rage he was feeling and incinerated the woman in his grasp.
Initially wanting to retort against this, any thoughts she had on doing so disappeared when a brief clenching of his hand around her neck doused any of them.
Not like Theseus gave a shit about letting her reply, instead he brought her closer so that their foreheads were touching which gave her a closer experience with the wrathful flames of rage that were his eyes right now. "Every time, every single fucking time you fucking nobles act this way. Whenever something happens to their oh so precious artifact, building or toy they simply blame others instead while ignoring any and all logical reasoning! They never even TRY to hear other's perspectives, never try to hear other viewpoints that could provide clarity! They only care about three things: money, artifacts and most of all reputation!"
Opening her mouth to speak, Meredith suddenly found that she couldn't help but to agree with what he had to say. She couldn't come up with a response due to being successfully swept away by the flood of emotions that the male was currently letting spill out into the world. Something she should have foreseen would have happened inevitably since she first started this little punishment with him.
Not knowing or caring about her thoughts, Theseus continued his speech. "They hire a personal butler or maid then spend many years with them growing bonds like father and son, mother and daughter, brother to brother, sister to sister. But when they would give their lives to their lords, what do these fuckers do? Do you know what they do? They would just replace them with another servant they can hire! They would hide the truth about being friends with a commoner, not giving a fuck about their sacrifices for their masters! THEY JUST DON'T FUCKING CARE, AS LONG AS THEY CAN THROW A FEW QUICK POUNDS AT THE PROBLEM! BRIBING OTHER PEOPLE TO DISBAND ANY INVESTIGATIONS!"
Unable to handle it anymore the male paused his rant in favor of gathering air for his exhausted lungs. Theseus huffed and puffed for a few minutes before he made his sacred gear give him more air to let him continue dressing Meredith, and by extension noble society as a whole, down. "Greed follows them, Pride is with them, Vanity, sloth. All the deadly sins follow them wherever they go. It's a fucking cursed life! They enjoy that rotten luxury, showing off their wealth while waving off the danger that approaches them, you know why? Money. People would even die for those fuckers just to get a single fucking penny!"
No words came out of Meredith's mouth as she had nothing to say to him. Every single sentence, every word he says was right. He continued to stare at her before asking her a question. "Look at me. What do you see in my eyes? Tell me!" He asked her that question, his tone darkening alongside deepening.
Meredith did not answer his question, or rather she couldn't. When she opened her mouth and attempted to answer him she'd been almost horrified when she found no words coming out of her mouth. It felt like her voice had been robbed from her, and it wasn't like the grip on her throat had loosened either. She generally couldn't give him an answer at all let alone a satisfactory one.
Theseus took this to answer his own question. "That's right you can't answer it, because you already know what I am." The male gritted his teeth, his eyes glowing in power. "I am not like them, I NEVER WILL BECOME LIKE THEM!" he screamed at her face while still holding her with one hand. The other reached upwards, grabbed his fancy shirt and jacket...
RRRRRRIIIIIIPPPPP!
...then ripped it off of himself like he was discarding something disgusting, showing off his chiseled body, muscle, scars and injuries still inflicted on him. He threw the destroyed clothes into a nearby fire, not taking the time to relish the sense of freedom he felt when doing so. "I'm not like them, I wasn't born a high-class person. I'm not like you who deals with this shit every day! Being a noble is not my style or ever will be, I would kill myself if I ever saw myself as a noble the first chance I got! It's a fucking cursed life! A personal hell where there is nothing but no satisfaction and nothing good comes out of it!"
Apparently having had enough of this 'noble' before him, Theseus pushed his arm out to put some distance between his face and the stunned Meredith's. This allowed him to get a better idea of how she looked, and right now there were all sorts of emotions fighting for dominance within her wide eyes. So many that it made properly identifying them all but impossible.
Not like he gave a shit about what mental state he left her in. "Face it Elizebeth's granddaughter, no matter what kind of training you tried to give me it will never work. I am not a proper person, I am not a NORMAL person. No matter what, I will forever be a fucking monster. That is who I am." Theseus made his declaration that he would not be what Meredith was trying to make him be. He couldn't give a shit about any punishment, nor about what she could do to him. It didn't change the fact that he was right, that he was not suited for this kind of style. He wasn't born or raised as a noble and he will never be one.
Which was all well and good for him.
With that said he finally let go of her, his hand loosening up before detaching from her throat entirely. This allowed Meredith to fall flat on her ass, the woman yelping at the sharp spike of pain that shot up her spine from her ass. While she slowly started to recover from the unceremonious drop, the male went and instantly twirled around, leaving Meredith alone in the midst of the burning building.
Damn the consequences, damn whatever Sir Integra would say to him for what happened to her apprentice.
He'll never be one of those rotten nobles, not ever.
Just before he left, he paused mid stride, something coming to him as he idly glanced back through the corner of his left eye at the stunned Meredith. He stared for a few seconds, before he made one following fact that shocked her even further. "If I had the power to go back in time to when we first met in London, then I would've stopped Alucard from preventing me from killing you."
With that piece said, Theseus walked away from Meredith's sight, leaving the woman alone at long last.
Elsewhere
"And that is my report mistress. I recommend you take action as soon as possible or right now." Retsuza finished his report to the lady in front of him while looking seriously at her.
The lady in question was a young woman with a voluptuous figure and very long blonde hair with matching eyes. She had rather delicate facial features and her eyebrows were cut very short and round, a symbol of nobility. Her hair was tied in a loose ponytail that reached down to her legs that ended in swirls, with taut bandages to keep it in place. She wore a traditional shrine maiden attire, and over that, she wore a white coat held closed by a red ribbon and a golden crown.
To anyone in the Yokai faction, this would be the woman they would no doubt revere for her stature as their leader: Lady Yasaka, the headmistress of the Shinto trinity and leader of the western Youkai faction, a nine-tailed fox.
Her tails behind her were swishing while frowning at Retsuza's report of the actions that Hellsing was doing in their territory. "Thank you for your report Retsuza." she replied back to him while still frowning.
"I did tell you Yasaka, that they would cause a LOT of problems than the devils already did. It surpasses the devil's trouble." another man said to her from off to the side. She looked to the left and saw the man in question, shaking his head in regret.
He had the appearance of an old man with a gourd-shaped head wearing a kimono.
Currently, he was smoking a long pipe while puffing out smoke. "I did warn you but did you listen? No, instead you allowed them to take Kuoh city. Because of them, more activities are happening in the Shinto factions, death, kidnappings, unnatural force. All those are literally happening on your part of the territory yet what did you do? You allowed the devils to rent Kuoh city which was supposed to be until their sisters graduate and just when things were escalating, in that last moment." he then gazed at her with disappointment. "You gave it to the bloodiest faction of them all."
Upon hearing that, Yasaka immediately made the following counterargument for her actions. "That was not my decision, Nurarihyon. That fell into the Shinto trinity's decision. They made the choice." Yasaka rebuked him.
However, the other man didn't stop and launched his own counter to her counterargument with narrowed eyes and an increasingly steely tone. "The jurisdiction was at the palm of your hands. You could've refused Tsukuyomi's decision when he made the final call if anyone refused. I was there when the final call was raised, Yasaka, so don't try to make excuses." he stated like a disappointed military instructor.
Yasaka put her lower lip while not answering back to the man. He got her there, previously the responsibility for Kuoh town's peace had been slacked off by the two sisters of the Satans, Rias Gremory, Sona Sitri. However, because of their connections and the support of their siblings they had been allowed to be scot free of the punishment. It had been a major source of contention within the Yokai faction's politics which plagued Yasaka ever since the decision had been made.
But then, things changed a short while ago.
It had happened with next to no warning, the Gremory and Sitiri Satans had just come to them and then asked permission from the Shinto faction if they could give their territory to Hellsing and by extension the UK faction. This caused an even BIGGER ruckus among both the Shinto and Takamagahara. The gods and the Youkais both debated intensely on the issue which almost caused a big civil war between them. One side would rather die than give the cursed faction their territory, allowing their presence and their trump card to step a foot on it while the other side wanted the devils gone since they were slacking off their duties, causing some of their followers and worshipers to be killed off or got converted to another religion.
This happened for two weeks until one of the Shinto trinity, Tsukuyomi made his final decision. They would allow Hellsing to take the devil's place as governors of Kuoh. As much as he tried to deny it, he can't help but point out the fact that unlike the Devils Hellsing would honor their agreement and conditions for Kuoh's governance. In return for this Hellsing would allow them to expand their influence outside of Japan because they were losing their worshippers and followers, this mostly being done due to the Shinto Faction being one of the more civilized of the bunch and not actively trying to hurt the people Hellsing protected.
Of course, some gods and Youkais say that humans are like ants, they are expendable. They could make more humans.
One could imagine how wrong it was for them to say that.
This angered the Shinto trinity gods, to which in the end Amaterasu and Susanoo followed their sibling's decision, stunning the rest of the yokai. They do not want to lose their people. It would be a kinda selfish reason for why they would be protective of their worshipers since the Christain faction was getting more followers each day that goes by.
The final call on who would object to their decision inevitably came, and no one said anything or objected to their god's decision. None of them wanted to risk earning their patron deity's ire, especially when one considered how vicious gods could be (looking at the Greek and Norse). Even the Shinto Deities had limits to their patience.
"What was I supposed to do at that time, Nurarihyon? Tell me, can I say no to the angered gods in front of their faces?"
"...you've become more of a coward than before."
"At least I have a reason why I'm a coward. Unlike you, I have someone I have to raise." Yasaka countered Nurarihyon. She did have a reason why she was at least saying she was a coward. She had a daughter to raise and she cannot allow her daughter, Kunou to be motherless because of her reckless actions.
Nurarihyon stayed silent for a few minutes before shaking his head, diverting his attention away from her.
Retsuza was becoming gleeful at the reaction of both the leaders of different sides of the faction. This could be their chance to get the Hellsing out of their territory, never seeing them again. "My lady and my lord. Please remember the facts, their very presence is scaling the balance of our pantheon itself! I might be a selfish fool, but Hellsing is better off being extinct."
None of them had anything to say nor could they deny his opinion. As much as Yasaka hates it she can't deny that she wished Alucard to be gone. So much horror, so much chaos he inflicted wherever he went.
Kunou, her precious daughter was very lucky to not have the pleasure to meet with that…...that thing.
The ferret Youkai words were impacting them and he needed to push a little more, just a little more until they finally could make the arrangements he desired. Once that happened, they could launch the official process of deporting Hellsing out of their rightful territory, and more importantly, he could stick it to that beast who dared insult him.
Just as he was about to utter one more word...
"Wait! Wait! My lord, my lady!" A person suddenly called out behind the ferret Youkai. He twirled around and saw the Rat Youkai from earlier running towards them.
Seeing the Yokai caused Retsuza to growl angrily at the sudden distraction. "You! What are you doing?! Didn't I tell you to oversee the repairs!?" he shouted at his worker, demanding to know why he was here so they could get on with reunifying their territory.
The Rat Youkai flinched at his boss's tone. He knew he was going to be in deep shit but as much as he would try to follow him, he needed to first give his report to his leaders. "I-I-I-I'm s-s-sorry! B-b-but th-th-th-this is s-s-someth-thing lady Yasaka needs to know!" he pleaded with his superior.
Said superior wasn't having it however, the politician throwing his arm to the side and gesturing to the door behind them. "They will not hear one single word from you! You filthy low-life rat!" spat, his glare practically ordering his subordinate to leave the room without directly saying it. He needed this chance to get the Hellsing away from their territory, and with what his subordinate was likely going to go on about then he couldn't allow him to say his piece. He needed to make Hellsing the monsters they are and him being a victim. "So Amaterasu helps me when we get back I swear we will talk abo-"
"Retsuza." All of a sudden, a heavy sense of tension erupted when his name was called by Yasaka, making him shut his mouth. He briefly started sweating in slight fear from the tone she had used, before turning around to see Yasaka's stern face.
She didn't look too happy at the moment, but he couldn't let her be too angry with him and be distracted from what she should be doing for their country. "M-My lady Yasaka. Please forgive me but my employee has nothing t-to say in h-his report! I-I already gave you m-my report!" he protested, hoping that she would take into account his testimony and consider his service record by listening to him.
Turned out that Yasaka wouldn't be so easy to trust as her eyes narrowed further, almost becoming the slits every yokai could use to a master-like degree. "That stuttering voice of yours proves to be quite suspicious." Yasaka declared, her brows furrowing before she glanced over to the subordinate rat yokai. "If he has nothing to say, then how come you're already trying to get rid of him when he is trying to give me more reports?" she questioned with her tone laced with growing irritation.
Such a tone sent multiple deathly chills down Retuza's spine, memories of what he'd seen happen to the LAST person in his current position when he was caught stealing from the Yokai faction's treasury for his own use. It had… not been pretty.
Nonetheless, he struggled on in a desperate attempt to assure his superior that nothing was wrong with the desire to punish that brat who insulted him, fuelling him. "M-my lady! Please listen to me! My idiot employee has nothing to report about! It's all useless information! It would waste more of both of your time! They burned the documents!"
"T-techic-cally." Just when he was about to rant further, the rat yokai interrupted him. "I-it was you sir." He said with a stammer, sweating profusely. He flinched and whimpered at the almost RAVENOUS glare aimed at him.
"SHUT YOUR MOUTH OR ELSE YOU'RE FIRED!" Retsuza boomed at the rat yokai, wishing he could just incinerate him with his magic at this moment in time. He should never have hired this fool in the first place, his kin had the bad habit of constantly ruining things for their masters. Just like literally the rat he was.
Sadly, the damage had already been done on that front. "Oh?" Nuraihuyon calmly said, already suspicious of what his youkai was trying to hide from him and Yasaka. "You aren't denying it are you Retsuza?" he questioned slowly.
Upon fully comprehending this question and reflecting on his words, Retsuza realized what he just said and froze in terror. He just already hit the last nail to his coffin.
Seeing that he wouldn't be getting to the Politician any, Nuraihuyon shifted his gaze to the rat Yokai. "You." he stated firmly.
Immediately, the rat yokai stood straight and offered a salute as per his training. "M-me?" he stuttered when the east side leader of the Youkai faction called him. He straightened himself.
"Yes. Come here." he called him. Making the rat Youkai gulp in fear before walking toward Nuraihyon with both nervousness and a bit of confidence.
As he walked away from his superior, Retsuza stood off to the side looking externally nervous. Internally he felt like someone on the verge of a panic attack as he tried to formulate a plan, anything to prove that the Hellsing were the monsters he wanted to make them out to be.
By the time that he started on one, it became too late to enact it since his employee was already in front of both Nuraihuyon and Yasaka. The employee had quickly presented them with his laptop which was open and as they looked at the laptop's screen the Rat Yokai also pulled up some documents for them. Whilst they began reading them, the Rat also proceeded to prepare footage from security cameras, all the while explaining things that had NOT been included in Retsuza's report.
Rats do have a habit of making a mess.
A short while later Nuraihuyon and Yasaka watched the video that had been recorded from one of the surveillance cameras and saw that one of Hellsing's members was not the cause of the destruction and chaos, but a pair of assassins.
"Well I'll be." Nuraihuyon calmly said as he smoked casually, but on the inside he was shocked that Hellsing was not the cause of trouble this time. "Looks like I was wrong about them, it seems they were innocent this time."
"Indeed they are, Nuraihuyon." Yasaka calmly said to her fellow Yokai leader. She can already clarify that Hellsing was not at the fault here. They were only defending themselves from danger and from the cameras, there was no natural death or anyone that was killed during their fight. If anything, the way this Hellsing operative fought it was like he was trying to minimize casualties by fighting within a close space.
This also repainted the picture of what had happened within her mind. From what she had seen and heard, it appeared that Retsuza's company's lack of security in the building was a major component in all of this chaos. Hellsing had simply come for a meeting and had acted quickly to prevent casualties, damages could be repaired albeit very expensively, but lives could not.
Yasaka and Nuraihuyon stoically looked at the ferret Yokai as they did not say anything to him before Yasaka waved her hand. "Guards. Get him out of my sight. I don't want to hear more of his lies."
"Huh?" Just as Retsuza cleared his mind, the tengu guards were already gripping his shoulders, taking him away from their site. "Wait, wait! Please believe me! You're making the wrong decision here! Hellsing are nothing but crazy fanatics! Their very presence can cause a disruption of the balance! Death, disorder and destruction follows them wherever they go!" He ranted and raved, all traces of any composure or professionalism a politician should have no longer present with him. If anything, he struggled and pushed against his 'escort' like someone who had just been sent to an insane asylum.
Sadly for him, the leaders ignored his words, hearing nothing but only lies from him like the lying scum he was. Soon he was out of their sight, and once he was they looked at the nervous rat youkai who stuffed up at their gaze. Yasaka asked him a question. "Tell me, why did you show us the truth?" she questioned, torn inside. She doesn't know whether to be baffled or frustrated since now someone had proven Hellsings innocence.
"W-well." the rat tried to think of an answer he was thinking before he made a thought of his own. Y-you see, d-despite th-their r-reputation. I-I thought th-that i-if w-we c-could g-gain th-their fav-favor. Th-then they w-would't c-come a-after us." The rat yokai explained nervously, and who could blame him? The guy just seemed to be an average joe, and thanks to some dumbass bosses he now stood before people so high up the ladder that he had to crane his head back to view them. Lowering his head, the rat yokai continued in a downcast manner. "I-I s-still n-need to th-think r-ration-ally. B-bec-cause i-if we d-do, th-then compa-anies w-would g-gain m-more st-stocks a-and tr-rade routes. I-I'm s-sorry, I-shouldn't o-of p-prove-en their innocence."
In the end it was brains versus brawn. As much as the two leaders hated it, they can't help but acknowledge his thinking and how rational it truly was. They'd been so focused on possible dangers and risks, they hadn't even thought of possible business opportunities since the terror of the UK was overcrowding their fears.
And he was right, if they could secure a deal and make new trade routes, then they could gain more stocks, get more money and expand their own influence as well since the Hellsing were doing that as well. They might as well try the Hellsings tactic no matter how much they despised it.
"Well I can say it was the stupidest decision you've ever made in your life." Nuraihuyon harshly said to the rat Yokai. He shook his head when he made the following decision. "But I can't help but praise your thinking despite being a rat."
"I do as well." Yasaka agreed with Nuraihuyon.
The rat Yokai widened his eyes as he was being praised by the leaders of the faction which filled him with gratitude and acknowledgment. A high praise from both of the leaders, he can't help but to smile a bit before it went away. He asked the following statement. "W-wh-what sh-should w-we d-do? A-are y-you g-going to h-honor t-the agreement?"
"As much as you put it that way, yes." Yasaka replied to her subordinate. She then proceeded to cup her chin with her brain rummaging through possible plans on how to accomplish the task ahead of them. "We first need to take actions against the damage your superior has done and attempt to close this potential rift between us and them."
"A-And th-the second?"
"...to further fulfill the conditions of the documents. To make sure that happens, it seems we'll have to send someone, one of our own, to their faction's HQ over in Kuoh." it was suicidal but what choice would they have? It was either to honor Hellsing as they did honor their agreement or…..they would allow the injustice to allow them to suffer because if they do then that could consider them as an enemy to Hellsing but mostly...
Their trump card as well.
Timeskip 2 weeks London
Back in her manor, a rather tired Sir Integra sat by her desk taking a break from her paperwork to look out the glass window behind her. She had just come back from one of her usual boring meetings and was looking to catch a small break before she finished the last of her work for the day.
In the meantime, the woman glanced at Walter who stood attentively behind her, some tea being brewed which she could smell thanks to it's scent reaching her nostrils. The scent made a small but pleasant moan escape the woman's lips, the woman once more regarding her country's beverage with great reverence like any proper British person. "Walter, is my tea ready?" Sir Integra asked her butler if her tea was finally ready after waiting for a few minutes.
"Yes it is Sir Integra, here is your tea you ordered." Walter answered her by giving her an antique plate and teacup set. As defined a well-duty butler Walter is.
"About time." Sir Integra whispered under her breath before taking the teacup handle and began to drink her tea. After she took a sip she still held her teacup while looking at her office, reminiscing the thought of what she was going to do now, one thought came to her as she remembered the queen's granddaughter. 'Well I suppose it's time to ask Meredith about her progress, in the report she was going for a meeting with the Shinto factions.' she mentally said to herself before waving her hand. She conjured a magic circle with Hellsing emblem sigil in the middle of her magic circle.
Now, the thing was Sir Integra knew a few magic spells. She had learned them on behalf of her butler and the previous Hellsing leader who had been her father, in case she needed something to protect herself from enemies… or Alucard. She had taken a single year out of the country to study magic on her father's request, coming back as soon as she had heard of him having fallen ill.
The rest was history.
Once she conjured the magic circle, it blinked for a while before it was finally answered. Sir Integra looked stoic before she spoke. "Meredith, I would like to speak to you abo-?!" Just as Sir Integra was about to ask her apprentice, she suddenly stopped and dropped her tea in shock.
Looking at what had stunned his mistress, Walter widened his eyes in shock as well.
Why were they in shock? That's very simple, in front of them Meredith literally looks terrible. Her hair is a mess, doesn't look properly groomed, her eyes had dark bags under her eyes. Her eyes looked somewhat bloodshot too, like she had spent a large amount of time crying or something, not to mention it looked like she hadn't put on any makeup in days while going through something horrendous.
Through the magic circle they could see what the office looked like, and by the queen it did NOT look too good which stunned them even further. Documents could be seen scattered across the ground, on the table, tableware had been tossed all over the place with some looking like they'd need replacing, it looked like a bomb had gone off or something all in all.
Even so, she still tried to hide it with a professional expression but Sir Integra can see it on her face.
"Hello Sir I-Integra. I-Is there s-something y-you need?" Meredith stuttered her voice, in both a tired and exhausted tone.
Sir Integra almost dropped her tea had she had control of her emotions and posture. She took a few breaths for a few seconds before turning to the magic circle screen. This wasn't the time to lose herself, something had obviously happened on Meredith's side and it was messing with her up till now which was completely unacceptable for a Hellsing member. "Meredith, what is going on?" Sir Integra asked her apprentice with a calm tone, though for anyone who knew her they'd be able to detect the hidden worry that lay beneath it.
"O-oh. n-nothing much Sir I-Integra." Meredith waved off her concern. "I-its noth-thing t-to worry about, t-this mess. I-I can cle-ean it up." she glanced around her room before returning to Sir Integra's stoic face.
The Hellsing leader was not convinced. Something happened to her apprentice, something that she didn't apparently want to talk about. That wouldn't sit well with Sir Integra however, even as her grip on her teacup slightly tightened. Now, normally she wouldn't care about her status because as a leader one needed to learn from their mistakes to not repeat them, but in this scenario Sir Integra chose to ignore that rule. "Meredith tell me what has happened to you right now or e-" she stopped on speaking her orders when she realized something, a theory popping into her mind about how Meredith could have been reduced to this state. "...did something happen during the meeting of the Youkais?" she questioned slowly.
If the Shinto Faction had harmed one of Hellsing's own, then she would be having words… as well as sending Alucard on a small 'walk' of his.
"O-oh no. Th-there's n-nothing w-wrong d-during the negotiations. J-just o-one f-failed n-negotia-ation be-between them." Her apprentice answered her, not denying what has happened during the past two weeks. The sounds of shuffling papers could be heard as Meredith proceeded to start gathering some of those documents that had been discarded all over the place, although both Walter and Sir Integra could tell that it would take a while to get THAT mess sorted out.
So that's why she's in this state, the woman nevertheless mused to herself. A failed negotiation between Hellsing and the Shinto's. This was a big mistake and a big blow in the Hellsings reputation. Sir Integra could imagine how much that could ruin the UK faction, but she can already guess what she was attempting to do.
"I-I h-have b-been thinking o-of w-ways to m-make up the t-trouble w-we did i-in their t-territory for the past days. I-I th-think I-I'm th-this close. J-just give me t-time t-teacher."
Hearing the desperation in her student's tone made Sir Integra frown deeply, her inner worry becoming harder to suppress. At this point, it was honestly getting sadder and increasingly pitiful to see the state her apprentice was currently in. This type of damage impacted her too much, the woman could tell. She mustn't have gotten any sleep either, she could tell thanks to seeing the various discarded coffee cups sprawled all over the place.
She finally spoke. "...Meredith, I think you need to take some rest now. That's what you need." She told her apprentice to take a rest. She definitely needs it.
Meredith did not respond to her teacher for a while, still standing in the middle of her office. The woman hung her head downwards, her hair shadowing her eyes although unlike normal whenever she or any Hellsing member did this, her eyes didn't glow in the darkness her hair provided. Nope, one could instead just feel the depression and sleep deprivation emitting from her weary form.
This wound up making Sir Integra knit her brows together as she did not hear a response from her for a while before Meredith suddenly dropped to the ground. This made Sir Integra quickly stand up from her seat like a bullet in worry. "MEREDITH!"
ZZZZZZZZZZZZ!
Before she calmed down when she heard Meredith was making a sleeping noise, knowing that she could not keep herself awake for a while now. The woman had literally fallen asleep standing upright, something Hellsing's leader had done herself a couple of times in the past.
Casually dismissing the Magic Circle and cutting the spell, Sir Integra put her hand on the middle of her brows in frustration. She suddenly grips her hand hard into a fist before she slammed it to the desk.
BAM!
"DAMMIT!" she cursed loudly. She should've known this would've happened, she shouldn't have sent or even assigned the mission to her apprentice in the first place. She's still a greenhorn to this type of position, so it was more than likely that she would have inevitably been overwhelmed by the pressure other forces would have forced upon her.
"Sir Integra." Walter called her name and snapped Sir Integra out of her self-imposed scolding. Nevertheless, she didn't raise her head but made a hand gesture to request that he continue speaking. Although she did not turn to face him, she didn't need to due to already knowing what he was going to say. "I did warn you. Meredith is not ready for this kind of pressure, it would have been better to slowly prepare her by giving her jurisdiction of a small piece of territory first before sending her out to Japan."
Sir Integra did not respond back to her butler as she had the right to hear what he's saying to her. Disappointed was his tone, but also admonishing of his superior. "Now forgive me for saying this, but you were not thinking clearly enough. Just because Queen Elizabeth's granddaughter has attended several meetings with you does not give her enough experience to run an operation of this magnitude. The lessons you gave her are not nearly enough for such a monumental task."
"I know Walter." she coldly replied to her butler, twirling her chair around, facing Walter with a cold face gazing on Walter's stoic face. "But that doesn't give you the right to-"
"Right to what, Sir Integra?" Walter interrupted Sir Integra, not affected by her gaze and also reciprocating it with one of his own. Considering the differences in their age and experiences, his gaze had more of a chilling bite to it than hers, which was a feat in and of itself. "You should've known this beforehand. Giving her a big piece of territory and handling it all by herself causes a lot of pressure. You've seen it in your own eyes, how much it has worn her down." he walks away from Sir Integra's desk a few steps before adjusting his monocle which shines with light. "The queen will not like what has become of her granddaughter. Send her back to London, the objective is over. Our reputation is already hanging by a thread over there, one more pebble, one more step then the queen will have no choice but to disband Hellsing."
Sir Integra grit her teeth and fists so hard in frustration she could've broken her bones and her teeth from the strong pressure she'd inflicted upon herself. Clearly angered by Walter's scolding at her, her butler did not have any rights at all to lecture her about her failures nor the right to express his disappointment in her decisions... but try as she might, the woman couldn't scold him for it.
After all, the man was right on the money with his words. She knew what Walter meant with those statements and she wasn't against his opinion. She did not think clearly at all when she had assigned her orders to Meredith and the others. She had assumed that her apprentice was ready to take the next step of becoming a leader, but apparently she had grossly underestimated how wrong she had been.
Eventually, her anger was lifted and the woman slowly unclenched her fists with a tired sigh escaping her lips, showcasing how weary she felt inside. If the exhausted expression on her face wasn't enough of an indicator.
Additionally, part of her indeed WAS thinking of sending Meredith back to London before the queen found out what had happened to her family member, but she couldn't no matter how much she may want to or the potential dangers that Walter would point out. For one, she knew her apprentice was currently running herself ragged trying so hard just to appease Integra, no matter how devastated her mentality already was.
If she were to send the return order to Meredith then it would only be making things worse for the auburn haired woman. Her mentality will be a mess, she'll become a broken person.
Leaning back on her chair, another exhausted sigh escaped her lips as Integra looked up at the ceiling over her head. Despite only being in her 20's, she felt so much older thanks to this damn job. She wished she could just retire already…
No.
Sir Integra's eyes hardened the moment that thought popped into her mind, the woman clenching her fists once more as she sat up straight, her fiery determination being relit. She cannot give up just yet nor would she allow herself to be a weak-willed woman. This may have been a setback, but it hadn't escalated into a full-blown disaster just yet. There were still things she could do to salvage the situation.
In order to start this damage control, Sir Integra called her butler back to her side. "Walter, prepare a phone call. It's time to make a call." she told him firmly, leaning forward and meshing her hands together like a cliche mastermind.
Briefly being surprised by the sudden change to his master, Walter knit his brows in confusion at his superior's order. "May I ask what this brought on Sir Integra?" he questioned while arching a brow in her direction.
"I know what I am doing Walter. The reason why Meredith is facing complications is because she doesn't have an advisor at her side." She lied to her butler. A leader does not need an advisor by their side, just look at Sir Integra herself. Nevertheless, knowing the complications around the issue the woman had formed a plan to help her apprentice in dealing with her hardships alongside the ones likely still coming her way. "As for who you're directing to, direct the line to the tower of London school."
"Tower of London?" Walter repeated the words before his eyes shot up in surprise and backed away a bit in shock. "Wha-Sir Integra! You can't be serious can you?" he shockingly asked the woman behind the desk, somewhat becoming conflicted on if she was actually serious or out of her mind.
To which she narrowed her eyes at Walter. "Does it look like I'm bluffing Walter? I will not repeat myself again Walter. Make the call." she demanded, ignoring the slight paling of the Butler's skin.
Walter remained stunned for a few seconds, struggling to process the heel turn that his superior did. What she had asked of him was something that had SO many risks behind it, in fact one could consider it downright ludicrous. If things in Japan failed then perhaps they could have done some damage control to potentially save Hellsing… but if they did THIS? Then if they failed they really WOULD have to kiss Hellsing as an Organization goodbye.
All this crossed his mind before he snapped out of it, shaking his head before putting his hand over his chest and bowing to Sir Integra. "Very well, I shall prepare the phone line." In the end he has to comply with his superior's order despite the opinion he had made known earlier. If this failed then Hellsing really would be disbanded, and that was NOT something he wanted to see happen, having served with them for over 50 years. "But may I ask, which individual from the school you have in mind?" Walter asked Sir Integra on who she will send to Meredith.
Sir Integra lowered her head slightly to cast shadows over her face, as her glasses glowed in the dark while she made the following response. "How about… ah yes, I do recall a certain physician is studying over there. Let's bring him into the fold."
