Joanna Riggs was feeling invigorated after her spicy rigatoni lunch. She decided to check on Topper Thornton, one of the newly-hired docents, stationed at the Arts and Crafts exhibit. As she walked in, she saw Topper diligently explaining the process of making traditional Mayan pottery to a group of fascinated visitors.
"Hey, Topper," Joanna called out, giving him a friendly wave.
Topper turned and smiled. "Hey, Joanna. Everything's going smoothly here."
"That's great to hear," Joanna replied. "Do you want to take your hour lunch break now? I can cover for you if needed."
Topper nodded gratefully. "That would be awesome, thanks! I'll be back in an hour."
As Topper headed off for his break, Joanna made her way back to her office, but something caught her eye. Near the exit of Beech Hill Museum stood Abbie Cornish, seemingly getting ready to leave. Joanna's jaw dropped in surprise.
"Oh my god, it's Abbie Cornish!" she whispered to herself, trying to remain discreet. She turned and sprinted back to the laboratory where Henrik van der Hune was working.
"Henrik! Abbie Cornish is here! At Beech Hill!" Joanna exclaimed breathlessly as she burst into the lab.
Henrik looked up from his work, intrigued. "Abbie Cornish? The actress?"
"Yes! We need to tell Eva King," Joanna insisted, pulling Henrik along with her.
They hurried to Eva King's office, practically bursting in through the door. Eva looked up, mildly startled by their sudden entrance.
"Eva, you won't believe it," Joanna said, catching her breath. "Abbie Cornish is at the museum!"
Eva looked puzzled. "Who?"
Joanna blinked, surprised. "Abbie Cornish, the actress. She was in 'Sucker Punch.'"
Henrik added, "She's also been in a bunch of other movies. Really talented."
Eva's face lit up with recognition. "Oh, 'Sucker Punch!' Right, now I remember. So, what about her?"
Joanna looked excited. "Well, I just thought it was cool she's here, and I wanted to see if maybe we could get a picture with her."
Eva shrugged. "She seems alright. Not my favorite actress, but hey, if you like her, go for it."
Joanna and Henrik made their way to the museum entrance, but by the time they got there, Abbie Cornish was gone.
"Darn it," Joanna sighed, clearly disappointed. "I really wanted a picture with her."
Henrik patted her shoulder sympathetically. "There'll be other chances, Joanna."
Just as Joanna was about to reply, Henrik's eyes widened as he spotted someone new. "Wait a minute, is that Max Adonis?"
Joanna turned to look. "Who?"
Henrik whispered, "Max Adonis. He's a well-known figure in, uh, certain types of films. Let's just say he's popular in the adult industry."
Joanna's eyes widened. "What is he doing here?"
They discreetly made their way back to Eva's office. "Eva, Abbie Cornish has left the museum, but now Max Adonis is here," Joanna reported.
Eva looked confused again. "Who?"
Henrik explained, "He's in gay adult films."
Eva's expression soured. "I don't watch that stuff. But my overly annoying best friend is gay. He mentioned something about Max doing something for Gay PornHub recently."
Joanna and Henrik exchanged glances and quickly rushed to the garden exhibit where the Monolith was displayed. There, they found Max Adonis looking around curiously.
"Excuse me, Max," Joanna called out. "What are you doing here?"
Max turned with a friendly smile. "Just checking out the exhibits. This place is fascinating."
John B. Routledge, another newly-hired docent, approached, looking confused. "I don't know what's going on here."
Max smiled at John B. and asked, "Want to join me in a little project I'm working on later?"
John B. looked uncomfortable, glancing at Joanna for help.
Joanna stepped in. "Max, while we appreciate your interest, we have to ask you not to conduct any... extracurricular activities during museum hours. But feel free to do whatever you need after Beech Hill is closed."
Max nodded, understanding. "No problem. I'll wait until later."
As Max walked away, Joanna turned to John B. "Sorry about that. Some days are just weirder than others here at Beech Hill."
John B. laughed nervously. "I can see that."
Joanna gave him a reassuring pat on the shoulder. "You'll get used to it. Now, back to work."
As Joanna and Henrik made their way back to their respective tasks, Joanna couldn't help but laugh. "Today has been one for the books, Henrik."
Henrik smiled. "Indeed. Just another day at Beech Hill."
They parted ways, both wondering what other surprises the day would bring in the ever-eventful museum.
