A/N: Now we move on to the redemption segment of Back for Blood. For those of you who have recently followed this story redemption is when we bring back any warrior who was defeated in the season and pit them against other losers if I deem them compatible opponents. So here we go and I hope you enjoy redemption!
XXXXXX
Saladin: The Egyptian Sultan who used the elements and psychological warfare to wear down the Crusaders.
(Saladin leads his forces in the Hattin. He fires an arrow from his bow at a Crusader hitting him in the eye.)
vs.
Attila the Hun: The Barbaric Hunnic warlord who's savage raids terrorized Europe and the Roman empire.
(Attila tackles a man down to the ground, raising his Scythian axe high he brings it down onto the man's skull.)
WHO IS DEADLIEST?
To find out, we've assembled a team of world class fighters to test history's most lethal weapons. Using 21st century science, we'll see what happens when two warriors go toe to toe.
No rules. No safety. No mercy. It's a duel to the death to decide who is...THE DEADLIEST WARRIOR!
During their last battles both generals were soundly defeated by their respective adversaries...
(Attila is stabbed in the side by Hannibal's falcata. He yanks it out before looking up to see Hannibal's war elephant lowering it's foot onto his head. The Hunnic warlord screams in pain before his head explodes sending brain matter everywhere.)
..but now, each of them will be given a chance for redemption when they face off against each other for the very first time.
(Saladin is struck in the shoulder by Nevsky's klevets, the Prince of Novgorod then forces him to his knees before the Russian brings it down onto his skull killing him.)
Here in our elite fight club we have gathered doctors, medical scientists and weapons experts to test out the lethal arsenals wielded by each of our combatants to determine who would win a fight between two generals from the ancient world.

''Welcome to redemption viewers and readers.'' Barry started off, ''Today in redemption we will start off with two generals who lost their respective matches in close confrontations with their first opponents. First is Saladin who was the Sultan of Egypt and Syria as well as the founder of the Ayyubid dynasty. On the other side you have the ferocious Hunnic warlord Attila the Hun whose empire ransacked Europe and he was believed in contributing to the fall of Rome.''
''These men also fought a lot on horseback so we will incorporate infantry and cavalry into the battle.'' Geoff added.
''Both are brutal generals in their own right. I can't wait to see how this match unfolds guys. The physical make-up is as perfect as you can get, both men weighed nearly the same and are the same height.'' Dorian said.
''We've got swords, polearms and bows to test so let's get this ship sailing.'' Barry concluded.
The mighty Sultan carried with him an arsenal that slayed countless Crusaders.
Short Range: Saif
Mid-Range: Halberd
Long Range: Tartar Recurve Bow
Special: Sappara
And for the Hunnic warlord he came equipped with weapons that painted Europe with the blood of his enemies.
Short Range: Sword of Mars
Mid-Range: Hunnic Spear
Long Range: Hunnic Composite Bow
Special: Scythian Axe
For short range weapons, both generals wielded swords of completely different designs. Saladin's trusted saif and Attila's sword of Mars.
The team now reviews the testing of both swords in action. After finishing the tapes they bring the experts together to test out their swords against the opposing armor.
Experts Sean Pennington and Mustafa Khalid stand ready with their swords in hand.
''Alright guys, for this test we want to see what your swords can do to your opponent's armor, helmet and shield. One strike per piece understood?'' Geoff explained.
Both experts nod before giving each other a smirk.
''Then on 3...2...1...Hack em' up!'' Geoff called out.
Sean swings his sword of Mars at the kite shield, the sword harmlessly bounces off leaving only a dent. Mustafa yields the same results when he struck Attila's shield. Both experts then brings their swords down onto the opposing helmet. Sean's sword bouncing off Saladin's Mameluke helmet while Mustafa's saif slices clean through Attila's leather helmet with the blade lodging into the skull. With a final battle cry both experts then finish it off with their final attacks onto the opposing armor. Sean's sword of Mars being thrusted and piercing clean through the chainmail hauberk while Mustafa swinfs his saif into the leather lamellar cutting into the torso.
''And that's time.'' Geoff said as they walk over to assess the damage.
''First with Sean and the sword of Mars I see no degree of penetration on the kite shield and you left only a dent and I doubt the man has a bone broken in his arm. Your second strike to the helmet yielded only 24 PSI which isn't enough to cause a skull fracture. This man is merely dazed. However with your thrust to the chainmail hauberk I see about 4 inches of penetration and where you thrusted it you will get his lung dropping it leaving him open to more attacks.'' Dorian explained.
He then walks over to Mustafa and his target.
''Moving on with Mustafa here his first strike at the shield was basically the same with what we saw with Sean. No penetration and not enough force to break the arm behind it. Looking at the helmet I see that you've basically cut through it completely and got the man in the skull deep enough to cut into his brain which would no doubt cause an instant kill. Lastly your swing to the leather lamellar did manage to cut through but you only go into the skin, only minor bleeding.''
''Keep in mind Mustafa that your sword is longer but you need to wind up for a swing whereas I can step in as you're doing so and cut you up with mine.'' Sean spoke up.
''But your sword is a bit shorter meaning I can still keep you at a distance.'' Mustafa replied.
After testing both swords against armor, which one do our experts believe takes the edge?
''While both are very good on horseback, I have to give my edge to the saif for it's longer reach and the fact that it will slice through the leather armor Attila is packing with one move.'' Geoff explained.
''That leather helmet stood no chance against the saif. The sword of Mars is a good sword but the reach and better results against armor won me over right off the bat.'' Dorian added.
''Despite it being made from meteorite iron, I have to give it to the saif for the same reasons you both have just said.'' Barry concluded.
For short range weapons, the edge goes to Saladin for the saif.
For mid-range weapons both generals wielded deadly polearms to skewer and mutilate their enemies. The halberd for Saladin and the Hunnic spear for Attila.
The team now reviews the testing of both weapons in action in their debut episodes and come to another rather easy edge.
''Halberd. It has options, reach and can take Attila off his horse.'' Geoff explained as Barry and Dorian nod in agreement.
In mid-range weapons, the edge goes to Saladin for the halberd.
For long range weapons both generals used bows of similar designs to take their enemies down from a distance. The Tartar recurve bow for Saladin and the Hunnic composite bow for Attila.
The team watches the footage of both bows in action in their respective debuts and are torn with the decision.
''I hate when we have to make these tough decisions. Seriously!'' Exclaimed Geoff, ''Both bows are similar in design and seem to pack the same amount of power behind them. I can see the arrows of both piercing the opposing armor and I think it will come down to the man behind the weapon as Barry says a lot.''
'' Agreed, Attila and his men are better trained with their bows. But I'll still call it even because of the similar design and power of the two. Edge even.'' Dorian added.
''Even, the man who gets the first shot gets the first kill and probably will win the battle.'' Barry finished with a nod.
For long range weapons, it's an even match-up.
Coming up after the commercial break! We look at the favorite sidearms these generals carried and then later. Saladin? Or Attila the Hun? Which general will earn his victory?
XXXXXX
Now we conclude the weapons review by comparing the sidearms our generals wielded in battle.
The team now reviews the testing of the sappara and the Scythian axe in their respective episodes. After making their guesses and predictions of what they will do to the opposing armor they then come to the conclusion.
''While the sappara will get through the leather lamellar, it's a strictly slashing weapon whereas the Scythian axe is more versatile and to me, whenever a weapon gives you options it gives you an advantage on the field. Edge Scythian axe.'' Geoff started off.
''I don't see the Scythian axe's head piercing the chainmail hauberk, but it still provides options unlike the slash only sappara. So edge Scythian axe.'' Dorian added.
''I love the damage the sappara causes on a body, but for options and better results on horseback the Scythian axe takes it.'' Barry concluded.
For special weapons, the edge goes to Attila the Hun for the Scythian axe.
Now the panel reviews the armor worn by both generals.
''In regards to armor I have to give the edge to Saladin. He has a steel helmet and a better shield which would hold off any attacks from any of Attila's weapons. Plus the best way to breach the hauberk is thrusting attacks.'' Geoff started off.
''I'd say even because both can deflect slashing weapons but a thrust will have no problem piercing through either armor.'' Dorian said.
''The chainmaul hauberk is made of superior material, sure Attila's sword and spear can get through it but all weapons in Saladin's arsenal will get through Attila's armor like butter. I think the fact that his armor blocks attacks from a few weapons in Attila arsenal gives him the edge.'' Barry finished.
In the armor category, the edge goes to Saladin for the chainmail hauberk.
Coming up, Barry gauges the x-factors and our battle between two defeated generals begins!
XXXXXX
Welcome back to the fight club. Here we tested and reviewed the weapons wielded by the ancient world's most ruthless generals to determine who would win in a battle to the death.
For short range weapons, Saladin's saif proved better on horseback and sliced the Sword of Mars to death.
''The saif has reach on it's side and when using a curved sword off horseback you're getting better results compared to the straight-bladed Sword of Mars. Plus the saif can get through the leather armor of Attila in one blow.'' Geoff explained.
Edge: Saladin
For mid-range weapons, Saladin's halberd proved more versatile than Attila's Hunnic spear.
''The halberd can hack, stab and disarm or dismount an opponent while the Hunnic spear is strictly thrusting. Sure the Huns throw their spears but if you missed you're fucked.''
Edge: Saladin
For long range weapons, both the Tartar recurve and Hunnic composite bows were determined to be equally powerful.
''These two bows are similar in design and upon reviewing the footage of them in their respective tests we see that they perform nearly identical so we'll be calling this edge as even.''
Edge: Even
Then with special weapons, Attila's Scythian axe proved more effective than Saladin's sappara.
''The Scythian axe provides more options over the slash only sappara and it's better on horseback.''
Edge: Attila the Hun
And finally for armor, Saladin's chainmail hauberk, steel helmet and his shield proves more protective over Attila's leather lamellar.
''Every single weapon in Saladin's arsenal is capable of making short work of Attila's leather armor. The fact that Attila will be struggling a bit against the chainmail plus Saladin's superior shield makes things more difficult for him.'' Geoff concluded.
Edge: Saladin
And now Barry will gauge the x-factors of both generals.
''Now let's review the x-factors.'' Barry said taking a seat in front of the simulator.
''For generalship Saladin had a 95 to Attila's 88. Saladin rallied men on both sides and that's why he has what he has.''
''Second is strategy and Saladin had a 90 to Attila's 87.''
''For Endurance I rated Saladin an 88 just like what Attila had in his match with Hannibal. Saladin hails from a harsher environment while Attila and his Huns were constantly on the move.''
''Fourth is logistics and Saladin had a 93 to Attila's 88.''
''Fifth is troop training and Attila scored a 90 to Saladin's 88 because his Huns were trained at an earlier age compared to Saladin's soldiers.''
''Last is intimidation and both men are even with 93.''
Barry has finished reviewing the x-factors and now the redemption battle will begin!
In this battle, Saladin will be accompanied by 4 Saracen soldiers and all will be wearing his armor while Attila the Hun will lead 4 Huns wearing his armor as well.
''Let's see who earns their longed victory.'' Barry said pressing the enter key.
XXXXXX
The battle begins in the aftermath of the battle of Hattin. Saladin and four of his men are seen celebrating their victory by singing lines from the Quran. Despite defeating the Crusaders he feels it's not over yet and remains on high alert.
Saladin: 5
On the nearby sand dune, 5 figures emerge from it. Two of them on foot and three on horseback. The camera slowly pans up and reveals the leader of the pack, the mighty Hun leader Attila. They had recently made their way into the Middle East due to a short supply of water two of them have lost their horses from it and decided to continue on foot.
Attila the Hun: 5
Attila and his Hun arm have been recruited by the Crusaders to help recapture the Holy Land back from the forces of Islam. He looks down the sand dune and spots Saladin and his men singing.
Drawing his sword he shouts to his two horsemen to charge towards the unsuspecting group while his foot soldiers ready their composite bows. Hearing the sudden commotion the Ayyubids turn to face the dune and see the Hun warriors readying their attack.
Seeing Attila leading the group, he shouts orders to his men to grab their weapons. Shouting to his two cavalrymen to charge Saladin mounts his horse and draws his saif. His two foot soldiers readying their recurve bows and were ordered to take aim at Attila and releases his arrow.
At the same time Attila's archers had released their own arrows and they fly harmlessly past each other. Attila only watches in amusement as the arrow fired from the Sultan just lands in front of him.
However, one of Saladin's horsemen isn't so lucky and takes an arrow straight through his throat, he falls off his horse choking before he goes limp.
Saladin: 4 - Attila the Hun: 5
Angered at the loss of a man, Saladin orders his foot soldiers to take their halberds and charge to assist the cavalrymen as he mounts his own horse, his only target is Attila himself.
Drawing his saif, he charges forth towards Attila. Seeing this, Attila orders his two foot soldiers to attack the Saracen soldiers as he draws his own blade before taking off towards Saladin.
The two forces then meet in a clash of steel as we see a Hun armed with a Scythian axe challenge and Saracen armed with a halberd. The Saracen thrusts the halberd hoping to impale the Hun with the halberd's pike end.
However the Hun jumps to the side and with all his might swings the axe downward chopping through the shaft of the halberd. Staring at his broken weapon in confusing, but before he can assess the situation the Hun brings his axe down digging into the man's face.
Saladin: 3 - Attila the Hun: 5
The Hun's victory is short lived when his head is chopped diagonally in half, the body collapses revealing the other Saracen with the halberd to have been the perpetrator.
Saladin: 3 - Attila the Hun: 4
Meanwhile the two horsemen on each side exchange blows with their swords getting nowhere. One of the Saracen decides to play dirty and as he rides towards one of the Huns, be swings his saif downward slicing through the Hun's horse's neck.
The stallion cries out in pain as it bucks wildly bleeding out. The Hun is then thrown off his horse and lands with a hard thud onto the sandy ground.
He gets up only to be suddenly decapitated, his head sent flying a few feet courtesy of the Saracen who had killed his horse.
Saladin: 3 - Attila the Hun: 3
The Saracen then looks to see his fellow horsemen dueling with the other Hunnic horseman but before he can ride over to assist his friend he it shot off the back of his horse, an arrow lodging itself into his shoulder.
Grunting in pain he slowly gets up and yanks the arrow out, hearing someone yell he looks to see the last Hun foot soldier charging him with a spear in hand.
The Hun thrusts his spear, the Saracen jumps back and goes to bring his saif down only for the Hun to swing his spear hitting him across the face with with the spear's end.
Seeing his opponent knocked down the Hun brings his spear and thrusts it down onto the Saracen's face.
Saladin: 2 - Attila the Hun: 3
Pulling his spear out, he charges towards his last remaining comrade on horseback. The Saracen and the Hun horseman exchange blow after blow when suddenly the Saracen's horse cries out in pain.
It bucks before the Saracen is thrown off his horse dropping his saif in the process. Seeing a shadow loom over him, he looks up to see the Hun raising his spear ready to bring it down onto his face.
He rolls over scooping up his saif and goes to draw his sappara. He then swings the sappara digging into the Hun's side. The Hun screams in pain before the Saracen brings his saif slicing through the man's neck.
Saladin: 2 - Attila the Hun: 2
The Saracen's victory is short-lived when the Hun horseman rides up to him and brings his axe downward burying itself into the back of his skull.
Saladin: 1 - Attila the Hun: 2
The Hun let's the axe go and rides towards Attila and Saladin whilst taking his spear. Saladin, seeing he is alone shows no fear and rides away from both raiders. Attila shouts at his last man to go after the Sultan.
The Hun rides towards Saladin, the Sultan draws his Tartar recurve bow and turns to aim at the Hunnic horseman. Closing one eye he takes aim straight at the Hun's face and releases his arrow.
The Hun's battle cry is halted when the arrow flies straight through his open mouth with enough force to knock him off his horse.
Saladin: 1 - Attila the Hun: 1
Attila looks on groaning in annoyance at his man's demise. He draws his composite bow before whinnying his horse forward. Saladin does the same and strings another arrow onto his bow.
As both generals ride towards each other they unleash their arrows at the same time. Both taking an arrow to their shoulders knocking them off their horses.
Both generals slowly get up and go to yank the arrows out of their bodies. Both generals take their swords and shields before walking over to each other.
They hold their shields in front of them as they go to circle each other. They patiently wait for the other man to make a move and it would be Attila who would strike first.
He swings his sword of Mars at the Sultan's head only for Saladin to raise his shield blocking the attack and responding with his own swing. Attila blocks it as well and he shoves the Saracen general away.
Seeing his opponent trying to maintain his footing Attila unleashes a war cry and charges towards Saladin with his sword raised high above his head. Finally maintaining his footing Saladin just barely blocks the Hunnic warlord's blade with his saif.
Attila then swings his shield knocking the saif out of Saladin's hand before bringing his sword and slices the Sultan across the cheek sending him to his knees. The Sultan groans in pain clutching his freshly cut cheek. Feeling a shadow looming over him, he waits for Attila the unleash a war cry before he raises his kite shield blocking the attack.
Saladin then reaches out with his hand and tries to pry the sword of Mars from the raider's grip. Seeing this Attila tightens the grip on his sword's handle and both struggle to gain control of the sword.
After a struggle Saladin would go in for a headbutt hitting Attila with enough force to break his nose and releasing the grip on his sword. Attila backs up holding his bleeding nose as Saladin tosses his sword away.
Out of pure rage Attila cries out a vicious battle roar and furiously backhands the Sultan with enough force to send him falling to the sandy ground.
Running over to scoop up his sword of Mars he then rushes over to the fallen Saracen who only responds by raising his shield protectively in front of him. Seeing his opponent, Attila stops mid-swing and laughs at his cowardice.
His laugh stops abruptly when the Sultan unsheathes his extra sappara and swings it, the sickle-sword slicing through both of the Hun warlord's legs sending him falling to the ground in a broken heap.
Saladin slowly gets up before stepping towards the broken Hun before him. Attila turns to face the Sultan and angrily spits in his face.
Deciding the man has had enough suffering, Saladin raises his sappara high above his head and brings it down. The sickle-sword cutting his head vertically in half completely spraying blood everywhere and staining the golden sand red.
Saladin: 1 - Attila the Hun: 0
Yanking his sappara out of the bloodied mess, Saladin raises his both his hands into the air shouting ''Allahu Akbar!''

Following a battle between two of our defeated generals it would be Saladin who redeems himself. His superior polearm combined with his armor allowed him to win a one-sided encounter with 57.8%. Attila however, did not make it easy as his men were better archers and his Scythian axe bashed Saladin's brains out allowing him to win a total of 42.2% but it wasn't enough.
''Why did Saladin win? His chainmail hauberk held out longer in battle and protected him much more than Attila's leather armor which was more easily pierced from weapons like the halberd. Not to mention he dominated the x-factors.'' Geoff commented.
''While Attila did utilize his superior archery skills to the best he could, he was just plain taken out by a general who has better trained troops, better weapons and better armor. Saladin proved he was just too much for the Hunnic leader to handle.'' Dorian added.
''Saladin earned his victory he longed for. Attila has a lot of work to do to redeem himself.'' Barry finished.
(Saladin is seen standing tall over the sand dune that Attila and his men had appeared from earlier. Looking onto the field littered with the bodies of his comrades and the Huns, he gets onto his knees and prays to Allah thanking him for the strength he had to win. Strapped to his side is Attila's sword of Mars.)

Next time on redemption. It's a battle of the Kings between two Iron Age leaders who went undefeated in battle.
Charlemagne: The Frankish King who stopped the Dark Ages and spread Christianity.
vs.
Alexander the Great: The warrior King whose brilliant tactics made him the greatest conqueror of his time.
