A/N: I'd like to thank my DW Panel for discussing this battle endlessly with me because this match was very tough to decide a winner on because how closely matched these two are. In the end I am satisfied with the winner and in my opinion the Hessians are easily the better opponents for the Caroleans. I'd like to thank DeadAliveManiac for confirming the weapons for the Hessians to be correct as well as Zivon96 and MKDemigodZ-Warrior for their additional opinions as well and final thanks to Metal Harbinger for allowing me to use the Swedish Caroleans against a similar opponent to the British Regulars in which he used in his DW.

WHO IS DEADLIEST?

To find out, we've assembled a team of world class fighters to test history's most lethal weapons. Using 21st century science, we'll see what happens when two warriors go toe to toe.

No rules. No safety. No mercy. It's a duel to the death to decide who is...THE DEADLIEST WARRIOR!

Here in our elite fight club we have gathered doctors, medical scientists and weapons experts to test out the lethal arsenals wielded by each of our combatants to determine who would win a fight between to of the 18th century's most fanatic and fierce infantry soldiers.

Swedish Caroleans

''Today gentleman we have a good battle between two elite 18th century infantry soldiers. On one hand we have the disciplined soldiers who served the Swedish King Charles XII until the end of the Swedish empire and on the other hand we have Hessian mercenaries who fought in the American Revolution in behalf of the Crown. These two warriors were feared among their adversaries and now today they face each other.'' Ancient weapons and combat specialist DeadAliveManiac started off.

''This is a phenomenal between two fanatical soldiers but in the end I'm siding with the Caroleans. They were trained extensively and during battle they wouldn't open fire on their enemies until they literally saw the whites in their eyes.'' Medical expert Zivon96 explained.

''Well, I'll side with the Hessians because they are packing the superior firearms and are just as good melee fighters. I think they are much more ferocious as well.'' Weapons geek MKDemigodZ-Warrior countered.

''The Swedish Caroleans are warriors largely forgotten in history while the Hessians are still remembered to this day. I can't decide on who would win this battle because these two fanatical warriors are evenly matched so it should be interesting to see.'' Modern warfare and weapons specialist PFC Rice Man concluded.

The Caroleans were the soldiers of the Swedish kings Charles XI and Charles XII whose notable tactics differed from that of Western Europe through a greater reliance upon pikes, rapiers, bayonets, and the spirit of the offensive. During the Great Northern war they were outnumbered and to compensate for their lack of manpower and resources the Swedes relied upon innovative tactics and staunch discipline to turn their warriors into some of the most effective of their day.

''These guys were easily the most badass soldiers during their time. They didn't believe in the word retreat at all. During battle they would actually march straight into gunfire and wouldn't shoot back unless they were sure they would've hit their enemies.'' Rice Man concluded

The fearless Swedish infantry marched into combat with weapons that matched their intense nature.

Short Range: Swedish Rapier

Mid-Range: Wheel-lock Pistol

Long Range: Fusil

Special: Triangular Socket Bayonet

Today, the hardcore Swedish infantry will come face-to-face with adversaries who battled in the American Revolution with unmatched ferocity.

Hessians is a term that was given to German auxiliaries contracted for military service by the British government, which found it easier to borrow money to pay for their service than to recruit its own soldiers. About 30,000 German soldiers fought for the British during the American Revolutionary War, making up a quarter of the troops the British sent to entered the British service as entire units, fighting under their own German flags, commanded by their usual officers, and wearing their existing uniforms as well as using their own German weapons.

''These men fought against the colonists with sheer ferocity and brutality that they struck fear into the hearts of the Americans. The Swedes are going to be in a very brutal battle against soldiers who are evenly fanatic as them.'' Rice Man concluded.

The German auxiliaries charged into battle with a brutal arsenal that spilled the blood of many colonists.

Short Range: Smallsword

Mid-Range: Blunderbuss

Long Range: Potzdam Musket 1723

Special: Infantry Hanger

For close combat both soldiers wielded two deadly blades. Up first will be the Swedes with their signature rapier.

''The Swedish rapier was a sword that was capable of powerful thrusts and cuts. It was a straight, double-edged sword which had a diamond-cross section and it actually tapers to an acute point. It had pretty good protection of your hand and it had upwards curving quillons that allowed you to catch an opponent's blade. The blade is nearly 4 feet in length and weighs a little over 3 pounds.'' Swedish Carolean reenactor Stefan Gustaf explained.

To test out the damage capabilities of the Swedish rapier, DAM has set up two gel torsos outfitted in the uniform of the Hessians. The expert will have 15 seconds to deal as much damage as possible to both targets in the allotted time.

''Alright Stefan, on my go 3...2...1...cut them up!" DAM called out.

Stefan cries a feral battle cry and lunges forward towards his firth target and swings at the neck and in one fell swoop he effortlessly decapitates the torso sending the head flying to the ground. Taking his sword he swings at the arm and slices it off at the elbow before thrusting it into the target's chest. He moves on to the second target and brings the rapier down onto the skull cutting the head partially in half with a mist of stage blood spraying everywhere. Just as DAM calls time Stefan delivers a final thrust through the target's throat.

''Alright, let's see what kind of results you produced.'' Zivon said walking over. ''For your first target here took a swing to the neck and you were able to sever both the carotid artery and jugular vein and while those won't be instant kills if he doesn't get treatment right now, he'll bleed out and you can watch him die.;;

The Canadian doctor then makes his way towards the second torso.

''Damn, the first strike itself would be an instant kill because you literally chopped this guy's head vertically in half just stopping at his nose. With only a second to spare you finished it all off by thrusting that rapier straight through this guy's throat and you got the spinal cord severed for an instant kill.''

''My sword isn't as long but the thing is when you're loading up for a swing or a thrust we would have already hit you ten times over.'' Hessian reenactor Johan Frundsberg spoke up.

The Hessians thrust back with their smallsword.

''The smallswords used by the Hessians were excellent thrusting weapons and thanks to how stiff the blade was it would go through a human body like a blowtorch through butter. It measured at about 39 inches long and weighed about 1 pound.'' Explained the German expert.

''For a literal smallsword it looks like it can get the job done quick and looks precise as well.'' DAM said.

''Same test for you Johans.'' Rice Man said pointing towards two Swedish Caroleans stand in, wearing the uniform for inspiration.

Johans nods and gets into position in front of his victims.

''On 3...2...1...go!" Demigod called out.

"Sterben Sie schwedischen Abschaum!" The expert screamed as he thrusts the smallsword into the target's gut jamming the entire blade through with a sickening crunch.

He retracts his blade and grabs the torso by the back of the head and jams the smallsword through it's forehead going all the way out the back of the skull much to the entertainment of our panelists. With the second torso in sight he moves from the first one and rushes up to it and thrusts the smallsword upwards getting the target through the chin and up into the brain with the tip of his sword protruding from the crown of the skull just as DAM called time.

''Damn, he's really going at that target.'' Zivon commented as he makes his way over to inspect the damage done.

''Well I'll be, you made short work on the first target. Your first thrust got this poor bastard through the gut and the area in which you struck him won't be a kill so you're causing a horrible injury at best. You made up for it however when you got this guy straight through his forehead and that blade easily glided through the brain and out the back of his head for an instant kill. When you moved on to the second torso your first and only attack on this guy was an upwards thrust from the chin all the way up into his brain for another instant kill. Not to mention you if you hadn't made your way into the brain you severed the spinal cord killing him.'' Concluded the good doctor.

Stefan walked over shaking his head at Johan's display.

''I like the work you did friend but your sword limits you to just thrusting attacks while mine can slash and thrust effectively.''

''Still, you can't deny this is a killer blade and not to mention I was faster with each strike.'' Johan retorted.

After testing out the damage potential of both the Swedish rapier and Hessian smallsword, which one does the panel believe takes the edge?

''Considering that Johan was restricted to only thrusting attacks I think it's safe to say that the Swedish rapier wins this because of it's length, hand protection, and that it can slash and thrust.'' DAM started off.

''I have to agree with you, the smallsword does cause more damage if it thrusts but if you're restricted to one mode of attack and since this is a foot battle the Swedish rapier dominates this category. Edge to the Caroleans.'' Zivon seconded.

''Hm, well, I guess you two are correct. I like when a weapon as multiple ways of attacking unless it's a cavalry battle where one methods triumphs over the other. So I give my edge to the Swedes for the same reasons as you guys.'' Demigod said.

''The Swedish rapier is so much better than the smallsword and one way it is is that you can catch an opponent's blade.'' Rice Man concluded.

In short range weapons, the edge goes to the Swedish Caroleans for their Swedish rapier.

Coming up, two early sidearms come forth for dominance and then later, two flintlock muskets battle for long range supremacy.

XXXXXX

Now we move on to the preferred mid-range weapons of our warriors. For the Swedes they used the wheel-lock pistol and for the Hessians they brought into battle the blunderbuss.

Since we've already seen these two weapons countless times before we will have the panel make their decision on what to do. Boys?

''After consideration we decided that we will just move on to decide the edge for this category since we have taken note on the damage potential of both weapons. For me, I'm giving the edge to the blunderbuss all the way because it is the superior technology.'' DAM explained.

''Yeah, both weapons are prone to misfiring but the wheel-lock pistol has a higher chance of that whereas the blunderbuss will only misfire if you hold it incorrectly. Also the damage speaks for itself.'' Zivon added.

''Agreed, the process of reloading the wheel-lock is also cumbersome so I give it all to the blunderbuss.'' Demigod said,

''By the time you have the wheel-lock reloaded you've already fired the blunderbuss twenty times, sarcasm. Flintlock will always defeat wheel-lock technology.'' Rice Man concluded.

For mid-range weapons, the edge goes to the Hessians for their blunderbuss.

Now we move on to the long range weapons where two powerful muskets duel it out. Up first will be the Hessians with theirs

''The Hessians were able to fight in their own uniform and dawn their Germans flags so thanks to that they also had widely used this, the 1723 Potzdam musket. It was the first standard firearm of the Prussian Army. It was the rival of the Charleville musket of France and the Brown Bess of Great Britain and later the M1752 Musket of Spain. It measures at 56.45 inches long and weighed 9 pounds and fires the 0.69 undersized caliber ball to prevent the effects of powder fouling.'' Johan explained.

''Excellent. This weapon was widely used during the Revolution and I can't wait to see the damage capabilities of it.'' DAM said before turning to face the Swedish expert. ''What about you Stefan?''

''The most prominent musket the Caroleans used during their time was the Fusil. It was a flintlock musket that was lighter than your average musket with a 36 inch barrel. It had a firing range of over 100 yards, and used a .62 caliber ball and is a smoothbore.'' The Swede explained.

To test out the muskets, our panel has set up 4 statics targets where the experts will be accompanied by 3 black-powder marksmen to best recreate the preferred volley fire tactics that were used with flintlock firearms. Each shooter will have 4 shots each to deliver as much death as possible. Up first will be the Hessians with their Potzdam musket.

With their muskets, Johan and the three other marksmen load their muskets' first shot.

''On my command, get ready.'' DAM said.

The shooters lift their muskets.

''Aim.'' They aim at their targets.

''Fire!"

Hearing the order given from the panelist the experts all fire off a loud, thunderous blast and after the smoke clears it is revealed that only one of the foam torsos was hit in the area where the spleen would be. The experts go through the motions of their reload by taking their lead ball and black powder and ramming it to the back of the barrel. They then load the pan with additional black powder before cocking their weapons and they then take aim, ready to unleash their second volley.

They open fire and this time two more torsos take a lead ball.

''Nice, the third torso looks like it took a lethal blow.'' Zivon commented.

The experts go through their reload process again before taking aim at their targets ready to get off their third volley. They take a moment to adjust their aim and soon enough they unleash their third shots and this time they manage to hit all their targets. As the smoke clears it is revealed to us that all torsos had received lethal shots. Satisfied with the results they were getting they all reload their muskets once more and fire off their final volleys hitting all targets once again.

''Nice job, let's see what we've got.'' DAM said as they all walk over to inspect the damage.

''Let's see here, with your first volley most of the shots went wide of their targets except one which found its way into this torso's spleen and it won't be an instant kill but he will bleed very heavily from the wound. Your second volley saw better results as these two torso's right here took hits and both of those shot placements would be lethal as they were hit the zygote and this one was hit in the neck so both are instant kill city. The third volley saw similar results as the previous volley and this time the fourth torso was finally hit in the stomach. Not an instant kill but incredibly painful and slow death if he doesn't get treatment. Final volley saw one-in-a-millions shots with each torso taking lead ball through their faces and those are all instant kills. In the end I must say I'm quite impressed with the results shown here.'' Zivon explained.

''So, think you can match Johan kill for kill?'' DAM asked the Swede.

''Yes I can, the Caroleans were just as trained and disciplined and unlike the Hessians they would make sure they would only fire when they knew that they can hit their opponents.'' Stefan said.

Now it's Stefan's turn with the Swedish Caroleans' Fusil musket.

Stefan and three additional blackpowder marksman load in their first shots and await orders from DAM.

''Alright every one, ready, aim, fire!"

On cue, the four experts take aim at their respective targets and fire off their thunderous first volley and when the smoke clears it's shown that none of the foam torsos were hit much to Johan's amusement.

''Awe, they missed.'' Demigod commented.

Though they missed their first shots that did nothing to deter them and they go through the reload process of their weapons and after doing so they aim and fire their second volley and this time they yielded results. Satisfied with what they got they reload their third volley and unleash it, this time they manage to deliver shots that appeared to be lethal as one of the targets had a wound in it's chest where the heart would be. Reloading their fusils one last time they all take a moment to acquire their targets and fire off their last rounds hitting all the static foam targets impressing the panelists. (Even Johan was impressed).

The team then makes their way so that Zivon can gauge the situation.

''As usual, I was disappointed that the first volley missed all targets but when you use weapons like these you have to expect that at some point. No kills or wounds. The second volley we did see a few hits as one of these guys is taking a lead ball straight through the lung and while it won't kill, you're still incapacitating the guy. The third volley saw better results and each of these targets took a lethal shot. This one in particular interests me the most since you hit him right through the heart for an instant kill. Lastly, the final volley all torsos received a delivery of a lead ball straight through their aorta, stomachs, and heads respectively for all instant kills.'' The doctor explained.

''It stinks that you had a few misses but you made up for it by producing some intense carnage.'' Rice Man commented.

''You missed a few shots and that's all the Hessians need to close the distance and get a beat on you so while you're busy reloading and missing the Hessians will be busy taking you all out.'' Johans snickered.

''That's exactly the game we want you to play, the Swedes did not fire until they saw the whites in their enemies' eyes so good luck coming close because that's as close you're going to get. No need for melee combat.'' Stefan retorted shutting the Hessian expert up.

Both soldiers have shown us the damage potential and accuracy of their muskets. It's a close contest but where does the panel stand?

''Normally when you pit two flintlock muskets against each other it would be the soldier wielding the weapon that determines it's effectiveness but the fact that the Potzdam musket has more advancements than the Fusil and it showed that it was more accurate with it's shots. I'm giving this one to the Potzdam musket.'' DAM started off.

''I agree, the Fusil's somewhat inferior accuracy will only be at it's best when the Caroleans are much closer to the Hessians and with the better accuracy of the Potzdam I don't think that's gonna happen. Edge Potzdam Musket 1723.'' Zivon seconded.

''Hm, I can see where you both are coming from and I'm gonna have to agree with you. Edge Potzdam musket for accuracy and being advanced.'' Demigod added.

''Sure the Caroleans will open fire when they come within close range of the Hessians, but what if the Hessians had already killed them all by the time they come close? It's easy, edge to the 1723 Potzdam musket.'' Rice Man concluded.

In long range weapons, the edge goes to the Hessians for the Potzdam Musket 1723.

Coming up, we conclude the weapons testing by bringing out two reliable sidearms and then later our battle between two fanatic infantry soldiers begin.

XXXXXX

The time has come to finish the weapons testing and what way to do that then to compare the sidearms of our warriors? Up first will be the Swedish Caroleans with their trusted and deadly Triangular Socket Bayonet.

''The triangular socket bayonet had three, razor sharp prongs and that allowed it to maximize the area in which you cut and the damage this thing was known for causing. The triangular shape was a much needed improvement on the usual double-edge bayonets. It measures at 18 inches long and weighs in at 1 pound.'' Stefan explained.

''I've read so much about this bayonet and I am very excited to see the damage it's reputed to cause.'' DAM said motioning to the stand in torso dressed in Hessian uniform.

Attaching his bayonet to his fusil the Swede looks at DAM for the signal to begin.

''Whenever you're ready Stefan give this guy hell.'' DAM said with a nod.

Stefan turns to face his target and with a feral roar he shoves the bayonet into the target's stomach with a sickening squish noise and twists it and the movement causes more blood to gush out of the wound. Pulling his musket back he aims a little higher with the bayonet and jams the weapon into the target's chest before stabbing it several times and he finishes his display off by jamming the bayonet into the target's right eye and when he pulls his weapon back the eye was attached to the bayonet making Demigod wince at the sight.

''Damn, you put some rage into that first attack.'' DAM commented and Zivon walks over.

''Holy Jesus, look at these injuries they're insane!" Your first attack to his stomach managed to pull out some of his intestines and stomach and that is just so painful. He's a dead goner. Your higher attack on the chest saw the bayonet go straight through his heart for another instant kill and the fact that you pulled a piece of it out makes it more gruesome, but it's also geometrically a beautiful wound. The last strike, do I even need to explain? You went into the brain, severed the brain stem and pulled the eye out. Dead on arrival.'' Zivon explained.

''After the battle closes in and the Caroleans bring this baby out, there's going to be lots of mangled enemies laying on the ground after the bayonet is done with you.'' Stefan said.

''I know, I can understand why this particular weapon was banned, the wounds are crazy and horrid. So deadly.'' Rice Man commented getting a nod of agreement from DAM and Demigod.

Hessian expert Johan remained unimpressed by the brutal display.

''Yes, your bayonet causes some serious damage but I want a weapon that can slash and have some stabbing capabilities.''

The Hessians respond to the brutal triangular socket bayonet with a tried and true sword. The Infantry Hanger.

''The Infantry Hanger's physical appearance was strikingly similar to the cutlass we've seen before wielded by the pirates. During the American Revolution it was a very popular tool for hunters and weapon for soldiers. It was perfect for the terrain as well. The blade of this weapon was shorter than your average cavalry saber. It measures in at 32 inches long and weighed in at just under 2 pounds.'' Johan explained.

''We've wanted to feature this weapon for so long and now we have our chance to watch it in action. It's the same test for you Johan.'' DAM said.

Johan gets into position in front of a torso clad in the blue uniform of the Caroleans and looking over to DAM he gets the nod of approval. He begins his assault by swinging the hanger straight at the torso's unarmored neck and manages to slice through a good portion of it. The severed arteries steadily spilling blood from the wound. He follows up with a thrust into the target's lower abdominal region and the gushing sound of flesh being cut through filled the air. Pulling his hanger out he finishes it off by thrusting the blade into the target's upper chest region.

Zivon then makes his way over to assess the carnage created. He comes up to the target and begins tracing his fingers across all the wounds before he began the explanation.

''Your first blow to the neck would not be an instant kill as you only severed the carotid arteries and jugular veins but, if he doesn't get to a doctor like right now he will die very quickly due to bleed out. For your second blow you got him in his lower abdomen and managed to get him in the liver, it's not an instant kill but he will suffer from heavy bleeding. Finally, the blow to the upper chest region you managed to drop his lung, again, it's not death but he's incapacitated and thus, he's open to other forms of attack.''

''I delivered pretty much death blows with all my strikes but you only got one kill while the rest were either injuries or this guy can be saved on time.'' Stefan said.

''That is true, but remember that the bayonet may cause your musket to become unwieldy while I can just maneuver around this sword.'' Johans retorted.

Both warriors have shown us the damage capabilities of their special weapons, but which one does our panel believe takes the edge?

''Normally I would give this one to the sword since it's not extra weight and length you have to move around but the damage and superior reach of the bayonet is what wins me over.'' DAM started off.

''Ever since it's conception that bayonet caused such horrific wounds that even if you got immediate medical care you will still die. It was just that effective so it gets my edge.'' Zivon seconded.

''It also makes the improvised spear that is the fusil have much more reach than the infantry hanger so the Swedes can get their strikes in and out faster and further.'' Demigod said.

''Despite it's one-dimensional use we simply cannot ignore the fact that it caused worse damage to the body. Usually when a weapon causes more trauma I have to side with it.'' Rice Man concluded.

For special weapons, the edge goes to the Swedish Caroleans for the Triangular Socket Bayonet.

Coming up, we finally review the x-factors and then later, Swedish Caroleans? Or Hessians? Which fanatic infantry force will emerge the winner?

XXXXXX

Welcome back to the Fight Club, here our panel and experts tested the arsenal of the 18th century's most deadly infantry units to determine who would win in a battle to the death.

For short range weapons, the Caroleans' Swedish rapier outperformed the Hessians' smallsword.

''The smallsword is really made only as a thrusting weapon whereas the rapier of the Swedes has reach and options going for it.'' DAM explained.

Edge: Swedish Caroleans

In mid-range weapons, the Hessians blew away the Caroleans' whee-lock pistol with their devastating blunderbuss.

''Superior technology, inflicts much, MUCH more damage and doesn't misfire as often as the wheel-lock is why the blunderbuss dominates the mid-range category.'' Zivon explained.

Edge: Hessians

For long range weapons, the Hessians Potzdam Musket 1723 obliterated the Fusil of the Caroleans.

''More advancements in the weapon, much more accurate and has more range is the reason why the Potzdam wins this category.'' Demigod explained.

Edge: Hessians

And finally, for special weapons the superior reach and trauma of the Triangular Socket Bayonet sliced away the Infantry Hanger.

''The infantry hanger is mainly a slashing weapon and while it can thrust, the superior reach and insane damage of the bayonet gives it the edge.'' Rice Man concluded.

Edge: Swedish Caroleans

Now, our resident metalhead and computer wizz Metal Harbinger will evaluate the x-factors.

''Time to spread the sickness!'' Exclaimed the man.

''For the usual one, the first I looked into was training and this was a tough one. The Swedes were highly trained to the point where they didn't fear death on any circumstance while the Hessians are mercenaries they received excellent military training from their native homelands before serving with the British. In the end, I gave this as a draw with both sides scoring an 88 each.''

''Next up is ferocity and this one was another tough one because these two soldiers. The Hessians were raised in a war-based society and fought with sheer ferocity they literally made the Americans cower in terror so I had to give them the edge in this category. The Hessians score a 90 to the Caroleans' 89.''

''Up next for calm under fire this was a definite no brainer as the Swedes take this one by a bit of a margin because while they marched straight towards their enemy's lines they were not deterred when fired at and more so when their comrades were getting killed all over them. The Swedes get a 90 to the Hessians with an 80.''

''For fanaticism we rated both warriors, the Swedes were religiously fanatic that if someone did something as much as interrupt their prayers they would be dealt with accordingly while many Hessians did not simply do battle for the British against the Americans for money, but merely for bloodshed. Both sides score a 92.''

''Fifth is discipline and it was once again another wash. The Swedes were highly disciplined soldiers from their training that they took it to where whoever took the Lord's name in vain they'd kill you. The Hessians had their professional military training back in their native Germany, well not Germany at that time but you know what I mean. Both sides score an 87 each.''

''Finally, we have operational experience and this one went to the Hessians because they operated alongside British forces in several other conflicts except for the Revolution. One such example was Ireland in 1798 so suppress a rebellion there. 84 to a 72 respectively.''

Both the panel and experts have complete their necessary tests and now the results are in. Metal will not run the battle one-thousand times in a battle to the death pitting 5 Swedish Caroleans against 5 Hessian mercenaries.

Who will win in a battle of fanatic infantry units who struck fear into the hearts of their enemies?

''In the end, only one side will spill the blood of the other. Let's see who it is.'' Metal said pressing the button.

XXXXXX

The battle takes place in the forests of outside of Trenton in the early morning after Christmas and we see 5 Hessian mercenaries marching through the woods near the town they were staying at.

They have received reports of the Americans requesting assistance from the Swedish empire in helping them combat the Crown and out of courtesy for their British allies the Germans decided to look into this matter on their own.

Hessians: 5

In a nearby clearing we see five Swedish Caroleans coming together for their daily prayers and they all lower their heads in respect for the Lord. God has given them a new mission in assisting the Continental army in battling the British empire and they will be part of an ever growing coalition of France and America when they succeed.

Swedish Caroleans: 5

The Hessians continue their trek through the woods until they enter the opening and the sounds of them making their way through the foliage were loud enough to draw the attention of their soon to be enemies.

Growling in annoyance at hearing someone interrupt their communion the lead Carolean draws his rapier and looks towards the source of the sound and spots the Hessians emerging from the brush. At the same time the Hessians notice the blue coats of the Swedes as well as their tricorn hats.

Noticing their uniforms and their miter caps the Swedes knew they had come face to face with the very enemy they were asked to help fight.

After the two sides noticing each other the two leaders of the groups give their men separate orders.

The lead Carolean gets his men into a formation and with their rifles they begin to steadily march towards their German opponents.

"Skjut inte förrän du ser de vita i deras ögon!" The lead Carolean barked.

Staring at the Swedes in confusion and astonishment the lead Hessian shouted to his men to ready their muskets. Doing what they were told the Hessians load their muskets and take aim at the marching Swedes.

''Feuer!"

On cue, the Hessians unloaded a powerful and thunderous barrage upon the fearless Swedes and one of the was unlucky as a lead ball struck him dead in the center of his face knocking the tricorn hat off his head as his body fell backwards.

Hessians: 5 - Swedish Caroleans: 4

Undeterred at the loss of a man, the Swedes continue to march onward towards their enemies completely shocking the Hessians but they remain focus and begin to reload their muskets for the next volley.

Just as they complete their reload the Hessians did not notice that the Swedes had come within 50 meters of them and they themselves take their Fusils and fire at them dropping one Hessians with a shot that goes straight through his neck.

Hessians: 4 - Swedish Caroleans: 4

In the ensuing chaos, the Hessians only had one more shot to get off before things come to melee combat and they managed to fire off a second volley that drops another Swedes with a gut shot. The man falling to the ground and rolling in pain momentarily before dying.

Hessians: 4 - Swedish Caroleans: 3

This does nothing at all to deter the lead Carolean as he draws his wheel-lock pistol and takes aim at a Hessian. Squeezing the trigger the pistol roars to life and the Hessian he took aim at is killed with a shot through the cheek bone in amazing accuracy.

The sound of the lead ball careening through his skull filling the air.

Hessians: 3 - Swedish Caroleans: 3

With the Swedes closing the distance the Hessians decide to draw their bladed weapons. Seeing this the Caroleans draw their own blades and the two sides roar battle cries as they charge one another.

One Hessian armed with a smallsword confronts a Swede armed with a rapier and the two exchange blows unable to gain the advantage over the other. Thinking that his slightly superior height will assist him in this battle the Hessian goes for a downward thrust with his blade but the Swede parries the blow and disarms the Hessian.

He then swings his rapier at the surprised Hessian and sends his head flying off his shoulders.

Hessians: 2 - Swedish Caroleans: 3

Smirking at his fallen foe his victory is short-lived when a thunderous blast is heard and he is struck from the back by the lead Hessian using a blunderbuss. His body is sent flying forward from the blast riddled with holes.

Happy with his kill he tosses his used blunderbuss aside and runs to join the remaining soldier under his command.

Hessians: 2 - Swedish Caroleans: 2

Elsewhere the last of the Caroleans is seen in a struggle against one of the Hessians, this one armed with an infantry hanger. He only managed to survive his confrontation thanks to using his bayonet on his musket giving him the advantage of reach.

So he waits for the Hessian to go in for a thrust with his hanger and just as he anticipated the German attacks and the Swede uses his reach advantage and successfully sends the Hessian into a position he wanted and with his fusil he swings the butt of the weapon hitting the Hessian across the jaw dropping him to the ground.

Before his adversary can recover he thrusts his bayonet down and the blade is jammed into the German's gut. The man crying in agony as the bayonet is twisted in his body and the bayonet is pulled from his body with a piece of intestines.

With his kill secured the Carolean looks around and spots his leader rushing over to him with a rapier that he had scooped up from the corpse of one of his men. The two nod in acknowledgement and hear the sound of footsteps.

Turning to face the source they spot the Hessian leader armed with a hanger and a smallsword in each hand. The lead Carolean orders his man to finish the job and the soldier rushes forth with his fusil and bayonet pointed at the German.

He goes in for a thrust with the bayonet but the Hessian swings his hanger down with such force the fusil was practically knocked out of the Swede's grip. The Hessian follows through by hitting the Carolean with the pommel of his smallsword sending the man reeling back and he finishes the job by thrusting both his swords into the Swede's gut.

With his enemy dead he pulls both swords out of the corpse and looks to face his final challenge.

The sight of losing his last man only serves to anger the final Swede and with his rapier in hand he marches over to face his enemy. The two men hold their respective blades in front of them defensively.

"Du wirst sterben, weil du den Amerikanern geholfen hast." The Hessian spat condescendingly

"Gud kräver din död.'' The Carolean retorted.

The two men then lunge forth in a clash of steel that echoes throughout the woods and they go in, swing after swing after swing unable to land an attack on the other.

The Hessian uses the advantage of having two swords at his disposal to try and get the Swede to open up his defenses. He feigns a swing from his hanger and the Swede holds his rapier up in defense just like he hoped for.

Taking the opportunity the mercenary quickly thrusts his smallsword at the Swede and manages to pierce into his forearm. The Carolean clenches his teeth in pain and despite the sheer intensity of it he fights through it and the two men lock their hands together in a test of strength.

They try endlessly to shove the other back to create their own opening but since they were evenly matched in strength they were getting nowhere so the Hessians decides to stop playing around and thought that it was time to end this confrontation.

He shoots his foot up hitting the Carolean in the gut before stabbing him in the side with his smallsword before kicking him off of it.

Helpless on the ground, the Carolean clutches his wound and looks up to see the Hessian standing tall over him with both his swords ready for the kill.

Out of the corner of his eye he spots his fallen man's fusil and bayonet under said corpse and quickly crawls toward it. Laughing at his prey's desperate crawling he fails to notice what the Carolean was doing.

He walks over to the crawling Swede and readies his hanger to decapitate the man but as soon as he goes for a swing, the Swede had already scooped up the fusil and turns around shoving the bayonet up getting the German in his chin.

The bayonet slicing clean through his chin and up into the base of the brain. The Hessian gags a torrent of blood but his sounds of agony are silenced by a louder sound as the Carolean pulls the trigger firing off the loaded lead ball and completely blows out the top of the German's head.

A spray of red mist filling the air. With his last bit of energy he pulls the bayonet out of the corpse and watches it as it falls over.

Hessians: 0 - Swedish Caroleans: 1

The wound from his death blow staining the green grass red. Even with all the pain he was in from his ordeal the Swede manages to get up and getting on one knee, begins a silent prayer for his fallen brethren.

Following a closely contested battle between two fanatical infantry forces it would be the Swedish Caroleans who would win the day. They won 52.3% compared to the Hessians with 47.7%. Though the long and mid-range fell in favor of the Hessians when it came to close combat the Swedes proved too much for their German foes. The Swedes scored triple digits with three of their weapons while the Hessians dominated in firearms with their blunderbuss being the deadliest overall weapon.

''It was a good battle and as long as the Hessians kept the engagements to long range they would dominant the battlefield. However, once things came down to close range fighting the Caroleans had the better weapons for the job.'' DAM explained.

''The Hessians made it so difficult for the Swedes, but when they met close up the Swedes were much more formidable melee fighters.'' Zivon seconded.

''I was going to think the Hessians and their superior firearms were going to probably prove way too much for the Caroleans to handle but sometimes having the better guns means nothing against superior melee fighters.'' Demigod added.

''You gotta give credit to the Hessians. They fought the Swedes with so much ferocity but the superior notion of being calm under fire is what helped them unnerve the Hessians and tipped the battle in their favor once they achieved both the psychological edge and when things got up close. It was an amazing battle between well trained infantry soldiers.'' Rice Man concluded.

(The Carolean is seen resting on a log not too far away from the brutal battle after tending to his wounds himself. He looks on saddened at the loss of his men but their sacrifice will appease the Lord. He carries with him the Potzdam musket of the Hessians hoping to help the Americans in their struggle with the British.)
