Callie leaned against the nurse station, her body physically drained from the constant black-flips she'd been doing for Erica, and Callie was no gymnast, she was untrained to be the groveling girlfriend. Usually, her boyfriends groveled to her, and she did not like being on the other side of this for Erica. However, Callie's heart strained at the idea of another failed relationship. She was a fantastic surgeon, and she couldn't even get her love life in order. It was beyond humbling, so as always Callie stuck it out. She took Erica's biting words and forceful kisses if it meant she'd hit a dating milestone greater than a year. It just unfortunately meant, she wouldn't be hitting any friendship milestones. She sighed, watching Mark and Arizona talk across the hall. Mark leaned on the desk, looking up at her with pride he once looked at Callie with, and the blonde tipped her head back. Her laughter was a melody that danced its way over to Callie who tried to shake the beat. She couldn't help but look around to make sure Erica wasn't in the vicinity as she gazed at Arizona once again. Ever since the beach, the two haven't even seen each other around the hospital. Callie was careful to hide away on the ortho floor, completely immersing herself in research for the time being, which is why right now, she felt like a junkie getting her fix of the blonde as her eyes traced the waves of her hair, and the way her fingers raked through it so perfectly. In fact, she was so zoned in on Arizona that she didn't notice her own father walking in the hospital until she heard the bang of a body on a wall. Eyes darting toward the sound like everyone else in the room, she saw her father holding George in a choke hold.
"Oh, fuck…" she sprinted over.
"Daddy please," she pleaded as her father choked George against the pristine white walls of their work while Mark and Arizona watched the scene with wide eyes.
"He's a cheater. He ruined your marriage, and he hurt my daughter." Her father grunted the words, emphasizing each one by forcing George harder into the wall. She pulled against her father's hands, desperately pleading for him to stop making a scene. At a loss, she admitted to sleeping with Mark during their marriage as well. Hoping it was enough, she pulled her old friend next to her, "Look, daddy, the papers weren't signed, okay? I messed up too."
Mark didn't have a chance to react before he was smashed into the wall. The only sound he could make out was George gasping for a breath, one he wished he could take right now as well.
"Mark Sloan nice to meet you," he got out, hoping his face wasn't turning the same pale blue color that George's was. Embarrassing, he thought.
"Dad oh my god please stop throwing my coworkers against the walls please. I'm seeing someone okay. I'm in a relationship. I've moved on."
"and you're happy?" his hands loosened on Mark's jacket.
"I'm…I'm happy dad. I'm happier than I was before." She let out, eyes tracing the pattern of the blonde behind her father who had taken sudden interest in a chart on the table. Her dad followed her eyeline and his eyes narrowed.
"Calliope" her father uttered and with that, the blonde's interest was piqued. She turned to look at them, amazed she was hearing Callie's full name for the first time. Upon making eye contact with the two, her eyes shot back down. Her face turned a bright red as she tried to immerse herself further in the files.
"I would like to meet this gentleman suitor for lunch, perhaps today." Her father turned away from Arizona with a strange look.
"Well, I don't know if they'll be busy or not. I mean we have busy schedules, and this is kinda spontaneous." Callie tried to cover but her girlfriend was currently making her way over, unaware of Callie's dad but acutely aware of Arizona Robbins presence.
"Hey, baby! I see you wore that red top today," Erica said, trying to pull her girlfriend in for a quick kiss, but her form was stiff and rigid.
"And who might you be?" Callie's father choked out the words, staring at the woman's hands on his daughter's waist.
"I'm Erica Hahn, Callie's girlfriend, and who might you be?" Erica eyed him, while Callie tried to stomp on her foot to shut her up. Mark squeezed by, finally catching his breath. He found his way to Arizona who gulped in fear for Erica. Despite not liking either of the two right now, she knew this was not going to end well. Her authority issues were at an all time high, and she wasn't the one that would be facing the wrath and fire of that man.
"Calliope's father." The words were rigid, cementing everyone in the room.
"Oh I am so so sorry. I didn't realize uh Mr. Torres." Erica stuttered out, looking for anyone's support, but the hospital zeroed in on their interactions, sitting back to watch the show.
"I will say this once and only once, so I want you to hear me clearly. I am booking a flight back home tonight with Calliope. She is coming back with me. I'll send movers out the following week, but she is permanently back under my roof."
"Daddy, wait…" Callie tried to stop him, but he caught her off with a harsh glare, a glare that sent her back to her prom night when she arrived past her curfew, wobbling a little too much up the stairs where her dad was waiting.
"Not a word, Calliope." He spoke in stiff sentences, turning away from his daughter's grasp with a disappointed huff.
"I'm not leaving." Her voice shook as she tried standing her ground.
"Trust me, you're leaving one way or another Calliope." He walked away, and Callie felt a stray tear fall from her face as she watched his retreating form. The hospital awkwardly got back to their day-to-day while Callie remained. Her legs felt wobbly, but Erica did little to support the brunette. Arizona traced the windy trail of her tear, one that Erica didn't brush away, one that was forced to waterfall down Callie's face. Despite their problems, Arizona wouldn't wish that pain on anyone. The pain of realizing the conditions of a parent's love was unlike anything. Unable to stomach it anymore, Arizona rushed off to the entrance, leaving a confused Mark behind. With a sigh, he stepped up to the shaking brunette, guiding her to an on-call room. Erica gave him a tense nod and walked away.

"I know we just met, if you could even call it that…" Arizona started, catching him by his car.
"I don't know you well enough to talk about her." He huffed out, opening his door.
"I know. I'm asking you to listen. Please listen." Arizona begged, as he climbed in his seat, unwavering.
"Is it the fact she's in a relationship she didn't tell you about, or is it the fact she's in a relationship with a woman that has you so upset you're moving her across the country?" She forced out, keeping her voice steady with aggression despite the sight of his beard and gray hair sending her into a nightmare of authority issues that bubbled in her stomach.
"I don't owe you any answers or explanations."
"because if it's the second option, I have to say you are nothing like what I thought Callie's father would be, and I'm so beyond disappointed in the result." She baited him enough to leave the car door open.
"You have a beautiful daughter. I don't just mean physically beautiful. Obviously she's stunning like the kind of stunning that makes you wonder how she even exists. It's like she was delicately chiseled by artists and gods for centuries. She has the type of beauty that makes you want to stare at her for hours, and her smile is the type of smile that takes your breath away. It is so genuine and filled with love for anyone that you want to fight to make her smile every time you see her because while it may take your breath away, it reminds you why you're her; why you want to breathe to live because you didn't know something as simple as a smile could be so perfect…and her eyes, they're filled with so many expressions, I don't think my psych classes even prepared me for how many emotions a person could express. She feels pain when the people she cares about feel pain. She gets excited when people talk about their passions, and her anger is terrifying, but there's a subtle beauty in the way she feels so much that it turns her red." Arizona felt herself get lost in describing Callie, so much so that she no longer looked to Callie's dad, but the sky. The sound of him reaching for the door handle brought her back to reality.
"Look, what I'm trying to say is your daughter is strong. She's fierce when it comes to the people she loves even if they don't deserve it, and they don't but quite frankly no one deserves her type of love because it's so wholehearted and non-judging. It's unconditional and faithful and enduring so much that it makes me doubt if I've ever seen it expressed by another person." And it is so not expressed towards me, she thought bitterly but bit down her tongue to stop the sour words.
"Where are we going with this?"
"I learned Calliope's full name today. A name full of beauty and grace. My name is Arizona Robbins, daughter of Colonel Robbins of the Marine Corp, and I was named after his father who was on the USS Arizona and drowned after saving 19 men. My father carried on his legacy. He served his country with pride and with dignity, and he raised my brother and I to honor that sacrifice, to honor the people who preserve our country and each individual inside of it that make this nation what it is. I'm not religious. I won't pretend to know your faith and your beliefs but I do know honor which is why when I came out to my father, I was prepared for how fast can you get the hell out of my house, and instead I got are you who I raised you to be? and with teary eyes I nodded my head because I knew honor and I knew sacrifice, and I would spend the rest of my life upholding what he instilled in me. I also knew I was my father's little girl, and it was hard. You know it had to be hard for a marine colonel to look his daughter in the eye and tell her it would be okay, that she was okay, but he did and every day since he's reminded me that I am okay, that I am who he raised me to be and he couldn't be more proud, which is why when I look at you, I see the faith and the strength you poured into Calliope. I see the lessons you taught her etched into her everyday life, and I see the most beautiful human capable of empathy, generosity, and compassion. I see the girl who you raised her to be, and while I can't thank you enough for that gift into the world, I'll say once again that you're making the biggest mistake of your life by walking out of hers." Arizona bit her lip, taking a step back from his car and letting her head fall. Her heart hammered against her ribs, and she prayed she wouldn't need Erica Hahn to restart it for her. The silence carried across the parking lot, and Arizona thought she would soon hear the sound of his keys in the engine.
"I thought she was dating that other blonde," was all he managed to get out, but it was enough for Arizona to raise her head.
"She is," Arizona painfully muttered.
"And you?" He questioned, trying to analyze the look on the ped's surgeon's face.
"Me?" Arizona laughed, "Believe it or not but I'm probably the one person your daughter hates." Callie's dad stared at her for a minute, trying to memorize the emotions on her face that he couldn't quite place. With that, he closed the door, careful not to hit her with it before he drove out of the parking lot, only looking once to see her standing in the same spot as he left.

Finishing her shift in a daze, Arizona didn't bother stopping at Joes. She went straight home, texting Mark for an update on Callie. He had yet to answer, so she lit a cigarette and tossed the lighter between her hands, wondering if she should text Callie herself. She peered down at her lighter, tracing the carving of Tim's name on the jagged metal. As she stared at the engravement, she prayed to him for an answer. She longed to call him and ask him what to do. In fact, the first day she met Callie, she would have called him and reported every single detail to her brother. The only response she could imagine was his young teen boy voice asking if she had a rack, and if so when he could dance at their wedding. Rolling her eyes at the image that seemed to clear, too real, she took another puff, waiting for the smoke to haze over her eyes and her mind. She leaned further against the cold stone, until the loud ringing of her phone caused her to bolt back up, almost making her drop her cig. Almost.
Answering immediately, she thought it was Mark with an update. Instead, the voice echoed out, "Arizona." Despite only hearing it today, she knew who that voice belonged to.
"Mr. Torres," she stuttered a response.
"Do you feel ashamed?"
"What?" She choked and tilted her head. Her cigarette was forgotten as it burned closer to her fingers.
"Do you feel ashamed for being a–" he couldn't finish the statement, but Arizona could pick up on his hesitation and fear to even say the word.
"A lesbian, you can say it, and no I- sometimes it…it can make me feel isolated, alone like I shouldn't be in some spaces, but it's the way I am. It's the only way I know how to be, and it's no different, you know? Like when I look at a girl I like, it feels right…how it is supposed to be. I don't feel that I'm doing anything wrong until strangers begin to give me looks or turn away, and I'm reminded that despite them understanding the same emotion of love I do, they don't feel the same emotion of empathy." Arizona was met with silence once again, before the call ended just as abruptly as it had started.
She didn't get any sleep that night, but neither had Callie. In fact, when Arizona went in, she looked across the halls for her, but her friends could only shrug. Her girlfriend, however, was present as she ravaged through the halls.
Knowing her shift ended relatively early today, she went through the motions, which as a surgeon, one should never do, but after appendectomy after appendectomy, she felt robotic. Scrubbing out of her last surgery for the day, she turned the water hotter, hoping the scald would wake her up, which it didn't but the slamming of Callie Torres's door definitely did. She drove over after work, lightly knocking. A disheveled Callie answered, in worn clothes from her undergrad. She now leaned on the strong wood that stood between them yet again.
"Calliope, I just want to check on you." Arizona pleaded and pleaded. The use of Callie's full name had her swinging the door open against her better judgment, but there was no gratitude in it. Instead, the use of her name had the anger simmering, and Arizona had always been an easy target.
"Don't you dare call me that," the door meant to slam again, but the blonde had wedged herself in it enough to stop it. Reciprocating the motion, she tore it open to face Callie.
"I just want to check up on you."
Callie couldn't help but laugh, looking behind herself at the mountain of tissues that had taken over the couches. Even Cristina couldn't bear it as she decided to stay with Mer for a few nights.
"Not even Erica's stopped by," Callie laughed again, hysterical as she continued.
"My own girlfriend can't face me right now, but the–"
"The what?" Arizona's eyes narrowed at the malice in Callie's tone.
"The slutty peds surgeon who can't let our hook-up go is here." She spit out as her sparks finally caught fire.
"Is that all I am to you?" Arizona questioned.
"Obviously. One time, that's all you're good for."
"Yet, I'm the one here, right now. Why don't you think about that Calliope? Why am I here, but your girlfriend can't even bother to show face?"
"You're here because you're desperate or crazy…maybe both."
"I'm here because you're in pain, and rightfully so." Arizona softened, trying to remain calm and understand this was a hard time for Calliope.
"My life was fine before you were here! I wasn't in any pain!" orrrr, maybe not, the blonde thought as Callie's word twisted in her gut.
"Your girlfriend walked away from you after saying you weren't a good enough lesbian, and I'm the source of your madness. I didn't sleep with you, and then tell you that you weren't gay enough."
"No, you just slept with me in a supply closet that you fucked one of my nurses in a few days later." Callie seethed.
"My god! Is that the problem? I'm single, so I sleep around in a new city, justified. You…you're in a relationship yet you're trying to get in my pants."
"You seduced me! I didn't want it!" Callie felt the heat of the lies as they burned her mouth, but it was too late to extinguish the pain as Arizona revolted back. Callie tried to reach forward, her eyes finally looking towards Arizona. Reciprocating the motion, Arizona pulled her in.
"You scream my name one more time and tell me how you don't want me." She muttered against Callie's mouth who surrendered.
